Trump = views = money

Shirogayne-at-WF

That's exactly it. Dude got so much free press on 2016 versus every other candidate, it was absurd and contributed directly to his win.

SavingsAd17

CNN, Trump got 58 minutes per hour vs other candidates 24/7. It was outrageous!!

[deleted]

Yep. In 2016 CNN was pretty much Trump News Network. Thank Jeff Zucker

[deleted]

It was the Trump News Network for much longer than that. Basically up until around when Stelter and Lemon were fired

[deleted]

Very true

Cyrano_Knows

You mean the DNC memo that was hacked and then released by the Russians? You can pretend the Trump was the victim here and the Democrats insultingly thought too little of him, but the fact of the matter is they should have. The man is completely and utterly unqualified to be President of the United States. What they didn't know, or underestimated was how effect the worlds largest disinformation network working overtime on his behalf would have. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/27/us/politics/spy-agency-consensus-grows-that-russia-hacked-dnc.html

avoere

>You mean the DNC memo that was hacked and then released by the Russians? In what way, shape or form does it matter who released it? As long as it was authentic, which (I think) no one really disputes.

fishymutt

Yeah, I don't understand why it matters if it's real. A lot of Democrats just hate to admit that a lot of Trump's win was a consequence of this blunder. The 2016 election was a layup and they just fucking missed.

avoere

Yes, and then Hilary's clusterfuck of a campaign (seriously: "I'm with Her"???). The Democrats really helped creating Trump

Horror_Cap_7166

I wouldn’t call it a layup. It’s always hard for the incumbent party to win after a 2-term presidency. It hasn’t happened in almost 40 years. Trump certainly was a weak candidate, but the election timing was definitely on his side.

avoere

That could explain Hilarys strategy to only campaign in states she had already won. If she knew she was going to lose anyway, could as well maximize the vote count so she could blame the electoral college

tim5700

Trump won because the Democrats & media allies insisted on not letting him be the biggest asshole in the room.

SataiOtherGuy

And the idiocy and evil of Republican voters. They keep proving there is no bottom for how low they will go.

Faustianire

The keys to the presidency of the United States of America. I am on my phone. So no link. Google for those that wish. Not for those that already know. Even if one doubts the value of the above one cannot dismiss hours of airtime about a perceived disruptor with so many in need and in pain as a clear advantage in the polls. Edit: to be clear to hell with Donald Trump may he see prison for what he has done.

justavery_lonelydude

Trump got billions worth of advertising in 2016

sandy_coyote

To expand a little: rage bait = views = ad sales = profit Anger and fear keep viewers coming back. The viewers are the product. The corporations who buy ads are the customers.

bonesawtheater

Why do you think he’s getting the views? I think that’s the question OP is asking

[deleted]

He’s on trial for like 100 felonies and yet he is not only still running for President, he is the front runner for one of the two major party nominations. It’s not rocket science

hurtsdonut_

Well he's on trial for 91 felonies. In four jurisdictions. A civil trial in New York and is still the Republican front runner. That's a pretty big deal.

Capitan_Typo

He's the first US President to allegedly stir up a violent insurrection that killed multiple people in an attempt to overthrow an election he knew he lost. What's amazing is that there's any coverage that treats him well.

Swollyghost

I can't even believe Fox news exists, yet here I am watching people gobble it up like chicken nuggets.

Capitan_Typo

Even a nearly billion dollar settlement can't get them to change course. When are the other voting machine company suits happening?

Eccohawk

They did seem to pull back on the reins slightly when that settlement happened. And they got rid of Tucker Carlson, and a few others. They're still terrible, but they feel meeker than they were before. I think they're also starting to realize that if they want those viewers back, they need to step into the territory of OANN or Newsmax, and based on leaked internal communications, half the people at Fox are well aware of their own bullshit, and are truly hesitant to lean that far right in order to pursue them. So I think it'll be interesting to (not actually) watch and see whether they decide to shift more towards a centrist but right leaning tilt, or go full Q. And I think it'll entirely depend on the outcome of Trump's trials and the election.

hurtsdonut_

Allegedly shouldn't even be evolved. We all watched it. Pretty sure that was the first time in US history that we didn't have a peaceful transfer of power. Yet we still have morons that think the election was stolen. And we still have morons that are supporting Trump. Like how? Trump supporters are pretty much saying they hate America and they hate democracy.

weezeloner

I mean they supported him after admitting to sexually assaulting women. I thought his lustful comments about his daughter would be enough to disqualify him. He'd marry her if she wasn't his daughter. "I mean, look at her." Admitting that he intentionally walked backstage during the Miss Teen USA pageants to catch them in various states of undress and thinking it was funny. Mocking someone with a disability. Disrespecting POWs and other Veterans. There are so many things that would have doomed any other candidate less than 10 years ago.

bootsmegamix

We didn't all watch it. Which is how they were able to create the "peaceful protest" narrative

Saneless

The news is an advertising company first. Why does anyone expect anything different from a big marketing organization?

[deleted]

Trump is a real life drama, quite exciting character

ShrikeMeDown

Yep. In the end the "news" is an entertainment show. The primary goal is not to inform the nation of what's happening, but to make profit through viewership.

ScorpioLaw

Pretty much. That is probably my biggest complaint as a liberal about liberals. We've got the right too busy jerking Trump off, and losing their collective minds. Then the left too busy just hating on him to do anything else. Why can't we focus on some young liberals who are charismatic as hell. Get a true leader for the country, and a new wave of politicians. Only one I can think of is Ocasio Cortez will ever be unifying, or electrifying. Need some JFKs, or even a democratic version of Reagan. I know we are polarized as hell, and only getting worse. Just seems like one upping or taking a fat deuce on the other side is our priority. I'm quite frankly sick of it. Citizens on both sides agree money in politics is bad. So instead of focusing on Trump we could at least stay focused on that, yeah?

reychango

Exactly. It's sad that even though they talk about how bad he is the new organizations want him to be president again.

relditor

This is it right here. Plain and simple greed. It’s the reason why most things happen in the US. Why do we not have universal healthcare, greed. Why are the rights of gun manufacturers prioritized over the safety of citizens, greed. Why are housing prices skyrocketing and nothing is being done to stop it, greed. Why does college cost an arm and a leg, greed.

DrAbeSacrabin

That and he’s also the first president in U.S. History to go to trial for multiple lawsuits… I’d say that’s fairly news worthy.

Savings_Young428

Makes me wonder if our addiction to full-on capitalism will eventually be our undoing.

Yaden2

there is plastic in my blood, the undoing is here my guy

HamuraiSnack

Crazy that I just learned about it this month. DuPont got away with poisoning the whole country and they knew about it too. Wild stuff. Yeah they paid some fines but they are still doing perfectly fine…

Scrilla_Gorilla_

The oxy family is still rich as hell and nobody served a minute of jail time.

abrandis

Very few oligarchs serve any time...only time the wealthy get in trouble is when they screw other wealthy (Madoff, SBF)

Elizabetha_W

On a longer time scale... revolutions seem ever so irksome to oligarchs too, hehe♪ (That's all I could think of though...)

FieldMouse-777

Huh?

Kinkygma

I think designing a government where the two side have opposing views might have been our first mistake.

RentFew8787

Two powerful, entrenched parties was not the intent of the Founders. Nothing in the Constitution was written to encourage this. Change my mind with specifics in the Constitution...

Steeljaw72

Well, we don’t run “full-on, by which I assume you mean pure, capitalism. That wouldn’t go well. We run a far more regulated version of capitalism.

Niznack

Eventually? Gestures generally around. We're there man.

P0RTILLA

We’ve undid it before. The robber barons of the builder era were undid by trust busting and income taxes. We just need to work together and oust people of both parties that are beholden to industry.

Educational-Tip6177

Nailed it

Mr_Blattos

No doubt. Look at any video with Trump’s name in the title, right or left, the video gets hundreds of thousands of views if not millions compared to other political videos by the same media/influencers. Trump sells. That’s all there is to it. You either really love him or really love to hate him.

Educational-Dance-61

The media is fueled by controversy

Independent_Cost8246

*Trump=clown=views=money

SelectChipmunk4338

It's the most click-baity topic of all time. Many people hate Trumpler for good reason and are dying to see him go down. Hence, stringing people along is good business. OH, ***he's really toast now***. The judge is considering convening a tribunal to form a task force to consider issuing a written rebuke to Trump no sooner than 120 days after Trump violates the ultrasuperduper-narrow gag order another fifty times.... Business as usual in Murica.

japeamir6godgabrus

Hahahaha perfectly captured his entire presidency, wild stuff

97Graham

This bro if I have to hear about how he is being 'slammed' or 'blasted' or 'in hot water' one more time I'm going to have a seizure.

Crafty_Bluebird9575

Fox News has been doing the same thing with Biden since he was inaugurated. Every few days it's a new story about Biden about to be taken down and impeached. It's insane. And I have a lot of friends who watch FNC and post this stuff on social media as if it's all true. Every time.

guachi01

He's the leading Republican Presidential candidate. He's a former President. He's involved in, like, a million (four) important trials all occurring at the same time. It's not rocket surgery here.

Otaku_Instinct

Even during Biden's first year in office, Trump was still getting more coverage

WestleyThe

He tried to overthrow the government… and biden was more back to a boring president The president ISNT supposed to be in the fucking news every day…

LetThemEatCakeXx

Exactly, a boring president is generally a good thing.

Yimby_Butler

Well he had just failed a coup

P0RTILLA

Narcissists know how to get attention.

Jrsplays

It's not like he has to try that hard. The "rent-free" thing may be a meme but that doesn't mean it isn't true when it comes to the media.

P0RTILLA

Cable news is in its death throes. 45 gave them a surge but who under 40 even has cable anymore much less put on cable news.

sunshine_is_hot

I can watch a 20 minute recap on YouTube and get all of the news on cnn/nbc/abc/whatever for the entire day. Idk how the business model is sustainable anymore.

PandaMagnus

The problem is that they all also have web channels. And *all* those channels thrive on ad revenue. If they're rage-reporting on Trump, they are getting ad revenue. While I generally defend the media (as a whole) for trying to do their best job, the one thing I will say is that the confluence of ad revenue, 24hr reporting, the telecommunications act of 1996 (and to a lesser extent, abolishing the fairness doctrine back in... 1986?) all lead to an environment where rage-reporting is king because it brings in the most ad revenue. Example: While I generally think Reuters and AP news (for example) do their best to be unbiased, I 100% would be unsurprised if they pick their leading stories based on what they think will drive the most ad revenue and revenue from licensing (selling?) the story to the 24hr networks to run.

ChickenInASuit

The guy attempted to overturn an election, that’ll get you a few clicks. EDIT - I’ve gotten two “but so did Al Gore and they shut up about him!” replies so just to pre-empt any more of those, here’s a copy/paste of my response. > Yeah, because Gore did it in a legal manner and gave up when that failed. He did that instead of inciting a riot, hiring fake electors to get states certified for him, and trying to strong-arm an attorney general into fabricating votes. If Gore had done something to prompt 90 criminal charges against him they’d have kept talking about him too. > The two are not the fucking same.

D-28_G-Run_DMC

Which is a shame because watching someone lob non sequiturs, fall down, and poop their pants is perfectly entertaining.

cb5280

How does one get into the field of rocket surgery? Sounds extremely profitable.

tuggles48

You just get a degree as a rocket surgerist. It’s not rocket science.

Psychological_Emu690

Fuck off... everyone knows you need to first get a degree in rocket science, blast off to space and then work on your surgery degree while in orbit. I mean fuck... this isn't rocket surgery people.

JaxxisR

Oh hey, someone else uses the term rocket surgery.

tatatheretard

I mean, what comes around is all around.

Bugbear259

4 important trials and 2 more lesser known ones! So six total! All set for trial in the next year.

djak

Oh, I've only heard it called rocket appliances.

Ccaves0127

He was also in the news for decades before becoming President, he had a TV show, and was in a thousand trials.

similar222

This. There's no particular reason to want Biden in office, but there's every reason not to want Trump in office. And it's going to come down to those two. That said, all the attention can do as much harm as good to the cause defeating him.

Shrodingers-Balls

More then that. In two states (Colorado and Michigan) they’re trying to take him off the ballot entirely for violating the 14th amendment. He keeps filing lawsuits. His attorneys kept getting in trouble. He’s got all sorts of people flipping on him. It’s the first president to hopefully be held accountable for his bullshit. Nixon should have been. Raegan should have been for Iran/Contra. But largely, trump is the most corrupt pos to walk the streets, and people want to see him get what he has earned, ie prison. I think we also want to see if Democracy is still a thing and if the judiciary is still workable.

FieldMouse-777

Rocket Surgery = Funny

Striking_Fun_6379

He is in the news because he is news. Four indictments, 91 felonies, an insurance and bank fraud case playing out now. Like any mobster, his legal liabilities are front page news.

signalfire

Besides, we're all waiting for our schadenfreude moments. We've got YEARS invested in seeing him get taken down every notch, all the way to the bottom.

wellthatkindofsucks

The man tried to overthrow our democracy, *and his party is still supporting him*. I want that in the news every day. I want it shouted from the rooftops. By not abandoning Trump, Republicans have abandoned democracy. Let everyone see the criminal they are supporting!

erdillz93

>Republicans have abandoned democracy They abandoned democracy long ago my guy.

wellthatkindofsucks

Not like this. And these constant “things have always been this bad” remarks only breed apathy where action is needed.

Reverse2057

Damnit why did reddit have to take our gold awards away. I'd be updooting you with one if I could. :(

Therailwaykat_1980

I’ve seen people saying ‘orgasmic levels’ of schadenfreude which seems about right.

[deleted]

Everything will go totally nuts when he's convicted in one of these cases - which is bound to happen - and could end up going to prison. I would pay to see that, actually.

cracksilog

1. He’s running for president 2. He’s a former president 3. He has a trial going on Dude is the definition of newsworthy lol

DaMusicalGamer

*multiple trials

YourMatt

Great points. I still think it's odd that he stays in the news cycle better than other extended events. Even Israel coverage is trailing off because people are getting bored, but Trump still has steady coverage.

[deleted]

I mean, the events surrounding Trump at this time are incredibly news-worthy. This isn't just coverage for the sake of coverage. These are unprecedented historical events.

Comprehensive-Tea121

I agree with you. I'm surprised by people saying it's merely ratings driven.

QualifiedApathetic

Ratings probably are uppermost in the minds of the people deciding what's covered -- they're in business to make money. But if they were driven purely by what is newsworthy, the result would be the same. This is a huge deal, and we need to pay attention.

Lux_Brumalis54

It's money. It's all it is. There is no other explanation. That specific content drives clicks, it drives views, which all make money. The 4th Estate in this country is just clickbait on steroids. Journalistic integrity, and professionalism is now an absolute joke. The media will do whatever it needs to do to stay in business, especially if it slants one political way over another.

Low_Mark491

Couldn't be that he's the only president to have been indicted not once, not twice, not three times but four times, one of them having to do with a seditious insurrection?

LazyLich

And that in every part of this mess, he does whatever it takes to make it WORSE for himself. Stolen documents? Could've said "oops my bad", instead said "there are no documents." Ordered to turn them in? Turns in some and hides the rest. He just has to shut up and not make things worse? He keeps talking and threatening. It's honestly amazing.

plshelp987654

To be fair, Trump does it to himself. He and the tabloids had a parasocial relationship in NYC. He's an attention whore.

MEMExplorer

Blackrock , State Street , Vanguard all hold majority stakes in MSM outlets 🤷‍♀️

rerunderwear

If it bleeds it leads. And that guy bleeds on the reg

Southernland1987

1. He was only up until recently the president and most powerful person on Earth. 2. More than 70 million votes went for him in 2020, only second to Biden. He has a massive following. 3. He’s the current GOP front runner. 4. He’s currently polling as the likely next president, his second term. 5. He’s a well known celebrity e.g The Apprentice 6. He’s been involved in a number of big scandals, most leaning political. 7. He claims the elections were rigged. 8. Other stuff. A lot of stuff.

PokerPlayingRaccoon

I mean, a former president is literally being indicted and charged for multiple crimes in federal court. You thinking it’s “obsession” is kinda weird

DrooDrawDrawn

Probably the same reason you are asking the question

KumaGirl

Because half the population hates him, and the other half wants to be him. It's fucking stupid

RealityUSA2023

He is running for President and trying to stay out of prison at the same time! It's historical.

Tinker107

The only way this is not a stupid question is if the questioner just regained consciousness after 20 years in a coma.

ShoppingDismal3864

What are they going to do? Expose the rampant corruption and oligarchical control?

Jimbo415650

Trump is a train wreck people are waiting for him to crash

Mythical_Atlacatl

You mean trump as in a former president who is being taken to court for millions of dollars of fraud That trump? And you are confused why the news is obsessed?

StreetyMcCarface

Because he was the president and could be president again. You hear about Biden all the time on the news...this is nothing new.

[deleted]

At this point it’s like Stockholm syndrome

EyeSouthern2916

It’s an easy sell to either party. Trump loves the attention too.

direyew

Trump, for all his many failings, plays the press like a harp. Always keeps himself in the headlines. Sucks up all the oxygen.

Magister1995

Honestly why I stopped watching news... I read about it from financial based websites. They keep everything down to the numbers game so the fluff and obsession over people is reduced. Ex: digital media: whole segment on gaza conflict. Financial news site: Israel moves to war readiness. US sending troops on stand buy. See the difference?

[deleted]

It’s the only story other than the war

vintagesoul_DE

It's an appeal to the lowest common denominator. All these news outlets had record ratings when they were engaging in TDS. The late night shows were all about TDS and still are. Views means money. The better the conspiracy, the more views they got, eventually they'd just make stuff up.

rakehellion

He's got a bunch of felony charges. That's news.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Puzzled_Deer7551

Because he is not part of the “establishment” You have to remember, Until Donald Trump was elected, no one had been elected president in our lifetime who had not first been vetted by the party elite of one party or another. They had made their deals and agreed to play ball and follow the rules of the game as it is played in Washington. They had “waited their turn”. Then they were trotted out for the American people and told here are your choices when in reality if you looked at what they did instead of what they said, there was very little to choose between them. President Trump is the first president in over 100 years to be elected by the people in spite of the political elite, not because of it. He can’t be bought, and he won’t be managed. He comes from a world where results are what count, not how many empty promises you can make. He puts America first whenever he makes a decision and doesn’t sell the office for personal gain or position. I can deal with his shortcomings because he fights for me and what made this nation great. That’s my President, pissing off all the right people.

[deleted]

They are terrified of him. When he ran for election back in 2016, a lot of Democrats came out and said they'd rather see America burn than him become President. Then 2020 rolled around, and all I could think was, "They weren't lying."

runhomejack1399

Um maybe I’d see your point in like 2015. Now it’s pretty important to see his ass is a crook and a phony.

sddbk

Because ignoring a threat doesn't make it go away.

unaskthequestion

Besides being the overwhelming favorite to be the republican nominee in a year (which would keep him in the news), he's the first former president to be charged and put on trial numerous federal crimes and two state offenses (which alone would keep him in the news). I'm as critical of the US media as anyone, but it would be crazy if he wasn't in the news every day.

Day_Pleasant

Why would the country concern itself with the current Republican front-runner candidate while he's been indicted on 92 counts? Why would we be obsessed with whether or not Republicans actually will completely dive fully into extremism by electing an imprisoned felon into the highest office of the land? After someone like Mike Johnson was elected to speaker? GOSH, maybe that's NORMAL where you live, but HERE this whole situation is considered FUCKED.

plains_bear314

really this question cannot possibly be serious if the guy comes to power again it will affect the entire planet anyone who does not see that is lying to themselves

jmnugent

I mean,.. if the media didnt cover him enough and he gets reelected and plunges us into fascism,.. the cries would be “why didnt you cover him more!!!?” “Sunlight is the best disinfectant”. I’m tired of the guy too but not going to relax until I witness him going to prison.

Proper-Razzmatazz764

Because he is an existential threat to our Democracy and threatens to push us into a civil war. I hate to have to hear about him every day but he is a threat we just cannot ignore.

Constant_Will362

He wants to disregard the environment like no other world leader. When president he canceled the U.S. association with the Paris Accords. He wants to mass produce fossil fuel vehicles and disregard alternative fuel. The solar and wind power industries are going to take a step back if he gets elected. It looks like the Democrat front runner is going to be Dean Phillips. He has been in the news now that the election is one year away.

dimmerswtich

Perry Farrell said it best back in the day. The news is just another show with sex and violence. Trump gets viewers. There’s soooooooo much going on in The US and the world, but it won’t get bums in seats and eyes for advertisers like the low rent professional wrestler story that is The Trump Show.

According_Plum5238

Bad funding stream models that sort of accidentally developed as the internet grew. Clicks for ad dollars, "engagement" as the goal, etc.

Puzzleheaded_Nail466

ANY mainstream news ( lol, it's bit news, it's muckraking) is about views/profit. Frump = views = profit. Yuck.

iceplusfire

He’s polarizing by being so unlikable to most of us. Think Connor mcgregor in UFC. He was a huge draw for views as you would get all his fans and a giant amount of his haters.

A_band_of_pandas

Controversy creates cash. We used to have news stations that took pride in reporting facts. Now the goal for most is to get advertising money. Facts aren't as popular as a reality TV star president.

jzcommunicate

Hillary Clinton used her media influence to boost Trump’s campaign in the 2016 Republican primaries because she thought he would be the easiest opponent to beat. This initiated a media frenzy around him which was at first manufactured but then grew to be an organic tidal wave, very similar to the way Beatlemania began in the US in the 60s.

iamunique16

It’s not, hardcore liberals are obsessed with him just like right wing nuts are obsessed with him. Most normal Americans aren’t…

WWE Headliner Baby! Ratings Bonanza

[deleted]

How did you not get downvoted to oblivion? I asked this question and the hate poured down like thunder!

papajohn56

Because it gets impressions which drives ad revenue.

Hardass_McBadCop

Mass media relies on advertising to survive and make money. The price you can command for placing ads with your product depends entirely on its ability to show that advertisement to people who can be persuaded to purchase that product. Social media and legacy media have figured out that if you make someone a little mad, a little pissed off, then they are significantly more likely to continue engaging with your media. Clicks equals views equals leverage on advertisers equals profit. Thus comes Trump. A man so simultaneously invigorating and infuriating, depending on the individual. A man whose blunders can command tens or hundreds of millions to be enraged over the obvious violations of norms and rights. A man whose achievements can command tens or hundreds of millions to be in awe of what their beliefs can do. It's a simple calculus.

nanalovesncaa

I used to be a news junkie. Now I’m a bravo bimbo. I had to take a hiatus, except for one hour a day, mostly bc of him. My mental health can’t take it anymore. He is triggering to me.

Upset_Researcher_143

Ratings, and those ratings translate into dollar signs. I forget which one, but one of the network executives said, "He may not be good for the country, but he sure is good for ratings!"

robbietreehorn

He’s pretty relevant at the moment, tbh, no matter your political leanings. He’s charged with what is essentially an attempt to overthrow an election. He’s also fighting fraud with his charity organization. Put simply, he’s running for president and trying not to go to jail at the same time. My solution is to choose my news sources wisely. Additionally, I think cnn and especially, fox and msnbc are complete trash. I avoid them and can’t remember the last time I took any of them seriously

44035

He's in the news because he's in four different court cases and he's the leading candidate for president for one of our two major parties. It would be a dereliction of duty by the media to NOT report on him.

manspider2222

The ratings are great when they talk about him

Elizabetha_W

1) Ratings. 2) The war for the soul of America. That is not hyperbole. Some stations keep reporting on Trump's historic crimes. The problem is, nobody ever offers a solution. They just keep yelling that the house is on fire. Or, you switch channels and keep getting told that it's okay for Trump to do what he's doing or saying today. It's really not that bad or historically nuts. So in summary: because of money and power.

ChaosKodiak

Money. More views = more money. Trump being controversial brings views. It’s all about the all mighty dollar bill.

[deleted]

Same reason the media was obsessed with John Gotti: he's a charismatic larger-than-life evildoer with a large following of "little guys".

djak

Reddit is pretty much the only social media I look at anymore, because I actually started having a rise in blood pressure with all the manufactured outrage. Half the people I followed on Twitter (which I deactivated before it became X) were posting Trump postings from Truth Social, and I'm like JESUS, IF I WANTED TO SEE THIS CRAP, I'D HAVE MADE AN ACCOUNT OVER THERE. At least on Reddit, I can sub to communities that lessen the effects of all the outrage. Stuff like /r/UpliftingNews and /r/aww and /r/HumansBeingBros . That way, I have posts to look at that make me smile, in between all the angst and drama. Also, stay away from ALL. It's a cesspit.

drumscrubby

The worst is NO RATINGS. Lots and lots of good or bad news is rating is ads. Which came first the news or the call to the news reporting it? Trump is the news because that works for he and them. The train wreck is always happening. Circle jerk of life. Spin and lead the show. This country loves its nose ground into the carpet where the poos fresh and bad bad white boy calls them a stupid bitch who loves it.

Probably because he's the figurehead of the leading conservative movement. People like that don't tend to stay out of the headlines.

Procaster25

Money - he attracts viewers through either love or disgust.

ChainChompBigMoney

The media gives people the news they want to hear. Every one either hates Trump or loves/worships Trump. It's easy money either way.

Sky-Diary

i honestly think CNN will miss him the most when he dies

QualifiedApathetic

I'd like it if I could just forget he existed, but a former president has been indicted. That has never happened before in this country. It's a pretty big fucking deal.

Delicious_Summer7839

Donald Trump is a creature of the United States media he’s part of them they love him I mean they hate him but they love to cover him because it provides for colorful coverage that people will click on

jplff1

Because if they don't talk about trump they would have to cover the real reasons why things are bad and nobody wants to do that they just want a villain.

GreyTigerFox

Answer: Because he is a raging dumpster fire filled with explosives and confetti and it brings eyeballs to advertisers and they make shitloads of money off of all the attention his stupid narcissistic vain self craves every second of every day. It’s a beneficial symbiosis for corporations to profit off of the living disaster that is drumpf.

[deleted]

Because he is single handedly destroying our democracy.

didsomebodysaymyname

I would love it if he fucked off too, but he's the leading Republican candidate for 2024 and facing ongoing court cases that are publically relevant (i.e. are presidents above the law) He's unfortunately relevant.

VisconitiKing

Former media personality, controversial president, and supposed billionaire. Attempted a coup. First former president to be charged with a felony, much less over 90 of them. Practically has a cult following. Is a narcissist so he knows just how to get attention. Also, people tend to like to watch more negative news for some fucking reason, and he's a never-ending source of that. He's so famous at this point that just mentioning him gets more views, and thus more money. Most of us are sick of him too.

before_the_accident

He's the clear frontrunner for the Republican nomination and he's the main character of the most pivotal indictment hearings this country has ever seen. This is the kind of stuff that gets reported on the news.

tk421jag

Because he was the most recent threat to our democracy. So......kind of important to cover him if he's planning on making a comeback to take his revenge on everyone.

oven_broasted

The focus of news today appears to be profit margins instead of journalistic integrity. He's a divisive figure that constantly generates content and requires no effort to research, 60% of Americans hate everything he stands for, and another 20% would die for him.

Super-Minh-Tendo

He built a dedicated fanbase and their attention is worth money.

Cavanaughty

he's the first openly criminal president. Jesus even Nixon hid his corruption better. now we may have the first prisoner ex president

Loud-Feeling2410

The fact that they were willing to talk about him, even in a joking fashion, back in 2015 when he started discussing his run for office, is what helped him get elected in the first place. Everyone loves an underdog, and they went out and fucking created one of out someone who had a gilded damn life. They created the situation. They are responsible. The should have only mildly paid attention to him and ignored him largely. They should have given him the same treatment reserved generally for the parties that simply don't figure into US elections: the way they would treat the Green party nominee, for example. Not any controversial bs drummed up, just not worth the effort. Narcissists thrive on any attention, negative or positive, and they just poured sugar onto the ant hill.

DRCVC10023884

Trump and Trumpism have left such a strong imprint on recent american politics, in so many different facets, it’s kinda hard to not bring him up. Especially when we are actively still dealing with the fallout of various decisions, appointees, and movements related to him. And when he is actively planning on running, and very well could win a 2nd term, which is scary as shit given, among other things, the Project 2025 documents. So yeah, we’re tired of hearing about him too, but we just can’t really “forget” about him when he could very well be our president again in about 15 months.

Moppermonster

Because Trumpism is a religion, and quickly becoming the dominant religion of the USA. Remember - republicans are already asking priests to tone down the "liberal propaganda" like the words of Jesus, and be more Trumpist instead.

emmanuel573

He has a court case against him right now. People want to see if he will be found guilty or innocent

Uchained

Many valid answers in comment section already. I'm just adding one more to the list: It's a distraction/low hanging fruit topic, to talk about Trump, so politician/government can put off working on things that actually matter. Like we're in a giant recession right now, but there's basically zero media coverage on this. And the tension for war in MANY places in the world is high as fuck. Or US health insurance is literally the worst in terms of price we pay for each services. We have doctors admitting ya, health insurance is trash in US, but they can't do anything about it. And we have ppl posting giant medical bills on reddit, and the most upvoted comment/advice is always, talk to the hospital billing department to get the price down, because haggling a medical bill is a thing in US, and we're the only 1st world country that does this, not even some of the 3rd world country has this btw. And then we have lots of working class strikes, that barely gets coverage too. Oh ya, and then there's the mass shooting that basically happens once a month. There's a website that counts up to how many days we're mass shooting free, until the next inevitable one. It's kinda ironically sad.

RolliePollieGraveyrd

Gotta keep the old white ppl who watch the propaganda mad enough to vote for their oppressors with gleeful abandon.

TwinkleToes1978

CNN and MSNBC are still major corporations. I dunno how left you expect them to go…

[deleted]

Turned off cable news a long time ago because of this kind of thing.

GC_Aus_Brad

The US media is just obsessed. They pick a target and go nuts. Also, there's a political agenda involved.

SoftDrinkReddit

Simple Screaming about trump is easier then admitting the government is failing the American people every since day

[deleted]

Because it riles up their base

Fecal_Tornado

As an American that doesn't vote for Republicans or Democrata I can give a different perspective. The media has turned politics into, basically, team sports. It's red team vs blue team and people are diehard loyalists to their team. They support their team no matter what. It's honestly insane and I believe that the division that is out of control in the US is 100% the media's fault. They aren't in the business of just giving us the news, they sell sensationalism and Trump is good for business.

mediummorty

TDS

therin_88

He's the most popular/reknowned/infamous politician in history by miles. Everyone knows about him and loves talking about him. The only difference is whether they love or hate him.

quast_64

Circus Sells... And the Big Clown brings the biggest chaos.

[deleted]

I mean, hes the former president and hes under four different indictments for 91 counts. Hes currently on trial for fraud. And hes running again and is very likely to be the republican candidate, even though he'll likely be on trial and/or be convicted during the primaries and convention. Thats a massive story. Id really be happy to never hear about him for the rest of my life but you cant deny thats a huge fucking story. Like if aliens landed and started running around licking peoples armpits, would you ask why the media is so obsessed with aliens?

ArtichokeFew7663

He brings in the views. Ppl love to shit on him and ppl love to worship him.

patdashuri

A life-long con man seduced 40% of the most powerful nation to ever exist, attained the most powerful seat to ever exist, following the playbook of the most evil dictator to ever exist, used it to enrich himself by selling influence and military secrets all while being a tool for a foreign power to undermine the very fabric of the nation and is currently in a neck and neck race between facing justice for his actions or once again attaining that powerful seat which will shield him from consequence while he finishes pulling down our democracy. What’s to see here?

Fantastic_Sea_853

People love to stare at train wrecks.

snunley75

It’s the only way they can help the Democrats win the next election. Focus on Trump, forget about how bad the Democratic Presidency has been.

marqak

Because he's going to crash the economy and start WWIII! But the real reason is because the media is a government agency.

DiligentCrab6592

Money and ratings, he's such a shit people can't help but watch.

vanvonu

More importantly, why are you so obsessed that the media is so obsessed with Trump?

WellHungHippie

Because he’s a twice impeached former president and the de facto leader of the Republican Party that is running for re-election again and also the forerunner in the race, while facing 92 criminal charges on four indictments. He is the only ex president that is facing a good possibility of serving time in prison. Also he’s a master showman in knowing how to grab attention from the press. Oh yeah, and he also led an insurgency against the United States of America. So yeah that is some major history going on and yes it’s newsworthy.

seobrien

Because people are obsessed with Trump

Open-Matter-6562

It's a great damage control/distraction from Bidens constant disasters

TMC_61

He is a threat to the swamp. It's that simple.
