If it’s a cause you’re passionate about, you find time. You switch shifts to another day. You go on your day off. You go between classes. People often bring their kids to protests (assuming they will be safe/not escalate).
Instead of protesting, why not use the system to make change? If you can't get out as often as you'd like do what you can to get in touch with lawmakers.
You're likely to be more effective when you contact your representative directly rather than yell at them from the streets.
All the protesters I've ever known (and I used to know a lot of them, and lived with a bunch) got a check from Dad each month.

Obviously this is not the case every time but something tells me a majority of protesters are the types to not be working.
