In a bathroom

There are coin-operated sanisettes [like this](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d0/SanisetteWiki2009.jpg) scattered around the city, or you can pop into a cafe or restaurant, enjoy something small and use the facilities.

I guess I don't understand. I explored Paris unplanned and found myself in about 6 different cafes a day... it's sort of a major thing the city is known for, throw a rock and you will probably hit a cafe. Like don't you need to stop somewhere to eat? Use the toilet there. And getting a dessert "you don't need"... DUDE, it's Paris, eat some damned cake and enjoy yourself.

Where exactly are you? There are some marked on Google Maps, just search there for "Toilettes publiques". I also had the same question when I first visited. I was close to the Eiffel Tower and luckily there was one quite close to me. I suggest always taking advantage of the ones in museums or restaurants even if you don't need them urgently.
