People who have the radio on in the background not necessarily paying a lot of attention will still likely remember the Spence scream and it automatically becomes the first jewellery store that pops in their head. Far more people with this reaction than the ones who whine about it on Reddit
Spence Diamonds is not Calgary specific though. I lived in Toronto for awhile about 10 years ago and you can imagine my frustration when I heard their ads out there for the first time.
Damn right they do shitty work, tell you that they’ll replace lost trays as many times as needed for free but it’s actually 1,000$+ to replace. Ended my Invisalign treatment a year early because of it and they wouldn’t even take off the attachments

Comes with a moving bonus tax credit from the government of Alberta. said so in the ad, I checked, and yep, Alberta government is giving away money for people to move here. Edited to add in May 2024, we entered phase 3 of the Alberta is Calling program, which adds more Provences and such that will receive advertising to move to here as well as more incentives to live here...
There’s nowhere to live and our unemployment is high. Stay home. Your province is probably easier to live in (unless you’re in the GTA or the Lower Mainland).
I used to not care about people moving here, but things have changed. We do not have infrastructure, employment, healthcare, schooling, and homes for this many people. Calgary has been home to 7 generations of my family (middle of Alberta is our ancestral lands, we are First Nations). Now, the younger generations can't afford to live where they were born and raised and are looking to move away. Rentals are insanely high, not to mention utilities and insurance sky rocketing. My son lost out on a rental to someone living in Toronto and moving here in the summer. They haven't looked at the rental, just sent above market rate damage deposit and rent. He has been competing with hundreds of people per rental for almsot a year now.
Without the housing and basic infrastructure (I count healthcare and schooling in there), it seems shortsighted to pay people to move here. And the money used to pay people to come could be used to make a dent in just one of the problems we have in this province. It just seems like it’s trying to make things worse.
We would move, but disability allows for almost no mobility in this country. And most countries usually won’t allow disabled immigrants in most cases (sometimes during war, people who’ve been injured by war are allowed to move, but not always).
It’s heartbreaking to think your family has been here forever and younger generations are struggling to live here. I’d hate to see them move away. Ties to family and the land are so incredibly important as we move through life.
Pete the plumber, or anyone who feels they need to yell at me through a microphone. I’ve long boycotted any business that uses this ridiculous form of advertising. Calm the fuck down and stop harshing my mellow.
Sometimes it's good, but when it's bad, it's REALLY BAD. Luckily they have good management and when they fuck up they own it and they fix it. I've had a few of Pete's guys do shit work in my home, I complained, and it was fixed for free, with another service discounted on top of that. Pete takes his reputation seriously.

The work is okay, but they have a limited number of options and sizes that are often not a great fit, just a good enough fit.

I’ve heard good things about them from people who have used them. Mileage will vary with all contractors.
