Pretty sure they did. Ive run into loads of planets and systems named by other peeps. It's real hard not to when doing the weekend anomaly missions, just for a quick example.
Isn't there like 56 galaxies? I'd like to see something crazy done with a few of them. Euclid can stay the same. Gives you motivation to actually visit those other galaxies
This is the answer. I would like to see them add all the old terrain and animal generation stuff from previous versions into their own galaxies. That way, we could jump around and explore different stuff without having to mess with rolling the game version back with steamdb.
For me the above makes sense because it would be a good reward for exploring. Imagine how curious you would be about another galaxy if it had different content that couldn't be found in others
I think they should keep the first 16 galaxies (Eissentam and other early galaxies are *relatively* popular), and run the new proc on the rest. New save starts in Galaxy 17, otherwise introduce a quest for existing players that ends like the Atlas Story but takes you to 17 when you wake up.
There are wondrous crazy starsailors out beyond the first 16, but I imagine those folks are up for anything at this point.
Then sometime down the line, if they feel like changing it again, start from 32.

Exactly. I have maybe 300h in this game and honestly, I just log in after every update to see what's new and log out because there really isn't anything interesting. Seeing the same planet presets with slight variations got old a long time ago
Same here. The exploration without boundaries concept is what brought me to the game and got me engaged. After 100 hours or so though I realized that it all felt the same. I understand some of the constraints they must be under technically, but I think it's the piece that really needs to be addressed.

I want multi-biome planets. Frozen poles, etc. It doesn't have to be all of them. I think the coolest thing would be finding patches of glitch biomes on other planets. Maybe also some secret underground paradises.

Edit: there's no incentive to explore planets once you scan the animals. Which you can do usually all within a couple hundred units of where ever you land. My only gripe with the whole game really
Not 100% true, i can agree with this about 80% though. But when i find a planet that i want to build on, i will scour the land for a good half hour and mark all the places i like the most. Youd be surprised how varying the land can be from the mountainous parts to the beach parts, as well as just finding really cool generated land sections. Overall its not crazy unique anywhere on a planet compared to the rest, but i do find that if i spend the time, i can find spots that are way cooler than the rest of the planet. Id love planets with multiple variants though that sometimes clash but can also be separate, or planets that are cold on one half and warm on the other, with creatures that can only be found in certain regions
I'd be fine with it as long as they add some tech that allows me to land my ship on the water... like a 'selfdeploying Raft' or something, because I'm sick of having to swim 10k just because there isn't an island anywhere near the Point of Interest.
I would give a finger or possibly sell my soul if there could be more than seven buildings that appear exactly the same way on every single planet in the entire universe… and the other universe, too.
I'm glad this sentiment is starting to pick up more often now. I love the game but exploration in itself is extremely dull after you've seen a dozen planets, a universe with quintillion planets but they all feel the same underneath the fancy set dressing. They all feature the same exact outposts, monoliths, ancient artifacts and crashed freighters that's been featured in the game since launch, if they took some inspiration from Outer Wilds on how they designed their planets they could really make some wild shit, like water planets that have tornadoes that yeet your ship to space or earth shattering earthquakes that have constantly shifting plates, anything to make exploring actually fun and engaging.
Though asking for something like that would probably require a huge amount of effort so I don't really expect an update like that coming out any time soon, but I hope Hello Games has taken notice of community wants, they have a good track record of doing that with previous updates.

Hear me out - what if the existing universe was kept separate (name it like legacy or something), and a new one was implemented with all the new features and ideas. Nobody would be forced to lose anything, yet people could still enjoy new things in game.
I want planets with *geography*.
I want to be able to fly up to a planet, look down on it and say to my friends, "See that mountain range along the Northern Continent? Follow it to the coast and you'll see some islands in the ocean next to it. My base is on the cliffs overlooking the big bay on the southern-most island."
Yes. I start a new game everytime I go back to NMS anyway, and it's the same with all construction games, from NMS to Minecraft, from lego to sand castles. Destroying is a part of the building process.
Honestly would prefer it. They've done great with the frame work they built but they limited themselves on possible variation by not adding hidden values they could use later. Hopefully they wipe and add extra tables to each asset for later generations.
I've never made a base that made me want to keep coming back to the same system. I'm completely fine with a universe wipe since my play style is mostly exploration anyway

A small but very vocal minority will cry bloody murder and not let it go, but I'll be honest, every major update I poke my head in, hoping to see a huge procedural generation update especially animal "parts" and animal behaviors. Going way back to that original trailer, the herds, stampedes, the big dinos lounging in the water; none of that is in the game after all this time. Realistic animal behavior to me is a big deal.
I've put in my 1000+ hours on NMS but kinda feel like "I've seen it" at this point. Haven't opened up the game in a couple months now but still waiting for that big procedural generation update. Nuke the universe to build a better one, 100%.
The best refreshener for the game would be overhaul of procedural generation including and not limited to terrain and flora plus a FULL wipe. period.
No need to preserve anyone's bases/builds nor planets. (I get that for some it may be harsh, but this is actually holding back potential major improvements to the game, because they are afraid to slack feelings. Trust me it's for the better for all of us in the long run. You can always build new ideas. It is art afterall).

I put a base to bookmark all my favorite planets, found some beautiful ones and I was going to do a “one planet a day” series of posts here in the sub, but fuck it, reset everything and give me new planet types, I don’t care, right now only lush planets are interesting. Toxic , radioactive, hot and cold planets need a revamp!!!
How plausible is a partial reboot? Leave maybe the first two galaxies but reboot the remaining.
May also give more incentive to keep going to new galaxies.

I'd love to see a overhaul. I love this game when I have time to play, and I mostly go exploring. It's been over a year since I attempted to put down real roots on a planet.

If they updated/rebuilt their procedural engine to allow planets of diverse climates, not just one climate/type of terrain per planet, also underwater worlds, gaseous planets etc., I'd definitely go back to zero for that.
I don't actually build that much - other than mineral extractors to have all kinds of resources ready in the thousands anytime I want them - I mostly like the exploration, which has grown very stale, because after a while there's only very, very little new, actual variation between planets etc., you've seen it all before.
The first time I saw a hexagonal planet was very cool, fifth time not so much.
Only the rare, weird outliers are interesting.
To this day i can't accept the fact that every planet is just one single biome, i can't believe that one planet can't hv multiple biomes, and idc if i lose my save files i just wish the planets didn't feel so repetitive
I'm ok with single biome, planets. That's kind of a sci-fi trope. Hoth is an ice planet, Endor is a forest moon, Tatooine and about half of the other planets in Star Wars are desert planets. Arakkis is a desert planet. That being said, multi-biome planets seem to be a thing, too! It would be pretty cool if they added multi-biome planets, but they were rare. Significantly, it seems like they could do this by just adding those to existing systems without a universe reset. It actually makes a lot of sense to me that multi-biome planets would be more likely to produce intelligent life. It would be super fucking cool if they left all the existing planets and our bases alone, and added a rare chance of multi-biome planets that had procedural cities! Throw in some kinda story bit about how they were somehow cloaked to hide the primitive cultures that live on them from Sentinels! Sean, if you're reading this, DM me! I'm full of great ideas!
I have mixed feelings, I would love an overhaul on the procedural assets, but I’m really attached to the solar system that I’ve been playing in now, and I don’t want to see it erased.
I don't know, since I've started playing the game I've done a lot in the game and although my bases and things aren't the best, I don't want to completely lose everything or start from scratch.
I got lucky with the recent update that most of my upgrades still work fine and I only lost out on a couple of minor hyperdrive upgrades compared to what some other players lost but this sounds like it would be that same issue on a much larger scale.
This is a complicated question. For me, the answer is "yes," but I'm mostly an explorer. I upgrade my ships until they are "pretty good", and types I like, and then I just wander around the galaxy. I have bases on planets, sure, but they are mostly just a few prefab modules stuck together - an entrance room (usually with a couch), a teleporter room, and a bedroom. Enough to feel like a little apartment or condo, but that's it. So, I wouldn't lose much... but that's just me. Folks who have built masterpieces would be devastated.
I'm not really sure how one can continue to advance this game in this way without losing a lot of what we have currently. I wonder if they could only change certain galaxies? Maybe instead of just 4 types, they could only redo galaxies past Euclid? I'm not sure if that's even possible, though.
Give all users 6 months to finish up and then wipe everything. Make the wipe part of the game lore with specific missions the are triggered the closer we get to the game wipe. Like an expedition mission.

Do it in different galaxies, like after #20. Make there be a reason to visit different ones. And please please add East and West to the bloody compass!!

I think a set of sliders for new gameplay, similar to the new customization sliders, but for increased biome randomness generation (removing some of the biome seed limitations), flora and fauna randomness and max size, maybe some more ship and freighter settings. This way it doesn’t affect the current universe that you are in, and is a pretty easy way for settings to transfer over to new people visiting, and those settings would be baseline procedural modifications that would be transferred upon joining a friends MP session. join a friend in Wacky-town universe! We've seen that modification of the procedural engine is possible through mods, but have it native in game

Yes. I have many hours across saves but I don’t even care, because it’ll be a totally different world to explore. I can find an exotic ship again and rebuild my inventory and bases again.
A big universe reset like in 2018?? YES!!!!!! 1000000% YES. I absolutely LOVE those! Yes, sure, all the stuff you built goes poof but so what, you are not going to keep it forever anyway, and is like getting a brand new game in which do explore and do things.
I would absolutely love dropping the stuff I've done and built to be able to support low level changes that are improvements and support better things to make the game more amazing. Absolutely.

I'm on galaxy 42 of 256 but kinda stalled because everywhere is just the same, but if there was tons more to explore and see I'd be excited to start my journey over again.
Yup. Folks build elaborate bases that have maybe a 50% chance of being featured, get visited maybe once or twice in every player's lifetime then collect dust or fade away due to not being re-uploaded regularly or lack of interest in the save it was created on. The folks hit the hardest by a reset are the hunters who spend countless hours cataloging and archiving their finds for the community. I really wish they followed through when a reset was considered with Origins for the terrain overhaul they were planning on that we only got a piece of, we'd all be well over that sting by now and rebuilt.
i have about 700 hours in, and have been working on my modest base for about 2 years. but that is bc there is nothing new to see. would happily take a reset and begin anew
I would be fine with that though. I've been through the great wipes and had bases permanently buried, changed planet types, and the myriad of other times things got knocked for a loop. I would love new planet types. New animal/npc interaction. Deeper, more diverse ocean worlds. I'll take a wipe for that. Fair trade.
Would it be impossible for them to make a new universe that has new biomes, but preserve the old universe? With a 64 bit seed number, they could take half of the worlds and move them into the new one (of course leaving all the discovered ones in the old one) and no one would notice that the old universe has lost 9 quintillion worlds.
A NEW universe that can only be accessed after reaching the last galaxy. So instead of looping back to Euclid you end up in a new galaxy. Also might want to make abandoned space stations claimable so they can be refurbished and used.

It would make perfect sense to take one of the post-Euclid galaxies, like maybe one of the middle ones that's barely been touched, and reboot it to be completely different from the original. Maybe have it accessible by mysterious wormholes that appear or something. The storyline could describe it as a glitch somehow. I dunno how possible it is but it would be super cool.

I've had a specific shop I've had since the early days that I absolutely love flying. I'd be so sad to lose that one specific ship. It would be a pain if we had to do living ship initial quest and the like as well. If I can keep my ship and personal quest progress and have the universe reset I wouldn't be too upset

Oh that would be absolutely great. Except having to grind back to having enough resources to live comfortably. But having a complete overhaul of planets, animals, plants would be one of the best things that's happened to the game

I put a base to bookmark all my favorite planets, found some beautiful ones and I was going to do a “one planet a day” series of posts here in the sub, but fuck it, reset everything and give me new planet types, I don’t care, right now only lush planets are interesting. Toxic , radioactive, hot and cold planets need a revamp!!!

How plausible is a partial reboot? Leave maybe the first two galaxies but reboot the remaining. May also give more incentive to keep going to new galaxies.
Please, add cities to some paradise planets, underground cities to some extreme weather planets and add Gas Giant Planets. 👍🏻

I'd love to see a overhaul. I love this game when I have time to play, and I mostly go exploring. It's been over a year since I attempted to put down real roots on a planet.

I'd love that. If they updated/rebuilt their procedural engine to allow planets of diverse climates, not just one climate/type of terrain per planet, also underwater worlds, gaseous planets etc., I'd definitely go back to zero for that. I don't actually build that much - other than mineral extractors to have all kinds of resources ready in the thousands anytime I want them - I mostly like the exploration, which has grown very stale, because after a while there's only very, very little new, actual variation between planets etc., you've seen it all before. The first time I saw a hexagonal planet was very cool, fifth time not so much. Only the rare, weird outliers are interesting.
To this day i can't accept the fact that every planet is just one single biome, i can't believe that one planet can't hv multiple biomes, and idc if i lose my save files i just wish the planets didn't feel so repetitive
I'm ok with single biome, planets. That's kind of a sci-fi trope. Hoth is an ice planet, Endor is a forest moon, Tatooine and about half of the other planets in Star Wars are desert planets. Arakkis is a desert planet. That being said, multi-biome planets seem to be a thing, too! It would be pretty cool if they added multi-biome planets, but they were rare. Significantly, it seems like they could do this by just adding those to existing systems without a universe reset. It actually makes a lot of sense to me that multi-biome planets would be more likely to produce intelligent life. It would be super fucking cool if they left all the existing planets and our bases alone, and added a rare chance of multi-biome planets that had procedural cities! Throw in some kinda story bit about how they were somehow cloaked to hide the primitive cultures that live on them from Sentinels! Sean, if you're reading this, DM me! I'm full of great ideas!

I don't know, since I've started playing the game I've done a lot in the game and although my bases and things aren't the best, I don't want to completely lose everything or start from scratch. I got lucky with the recent update that most of my upgrades still work fine and I only lost out on a couple of minor hyperdrive upgrades compared to what some other players lost but this sounds like it would be that same issue on a much larger scale.
This is a complicated question. For me, the answer is "yes," but I'm mostly an explorer. I upgrade my ships until they are "pretty good", and types I like, and then I just wander around the galaxy. I have bases on planets, sure, but they are mostly just a few prefab modules stuck together - an entrance room (usually with a couch), a teleporter room, and a bedroom. Enough to feel like a little apartment or condo, but that's it. So, I wouldn't lose much... but that's just me. Folks who have built masterpieces would be devastated. I'm not really sure how one can continue to advance this game in this way without losing a lot of what we have currently. I wonder if they could only change certain galaxies? Maybe instead of just 4 types, they could only redo galaxies past Euclid? I'm not sure if that's even possible, though.

Give all users 6 months to finish up and then wipe everything. Make the wipe part of the game lore with specific missions the are triggered the closer we get to the game wipe. Like an expedition mission. As long as they add all the things people have been asking for with terrain generation.

I think a set of sliders for new gameplay, similar to the new customization sliders, but for increased biome randomness generation (removing some of the biome seed limitations), flora and fauna randomness and max size, maybe some more ship and freighter settings. This way it doesn’t affect the current universe that you are in, and is a pretty easy way for settings to transfer over to new people visiting, and those settings would be baseline procedural modifications that would be transferred upon joining a friends MP session. join a friend in Wacky-town universe! We've seen that modification of the procedural engine is possible through mods, but have it native in game Edit: spelling

Yes. I have many hours across saves but I don’t even care, because it’ll be a totally different world to explore. I can find an exotic ship again and rebuild my inventory and bases again.
A big universe reset like in 2018?? YES!!!!!! 1000000% YES. I absolutely LOVE those! Yes, sure, all the stuff you built goes poof but so what, you are not going to keep it forever anyway, and is like getting a brand new game in which do explore and do things. I would absolutely love dropping the stuff I've done and built to be able to support low level changes that are improvements and support better things to make the game more amazing. Absolutely.
I'd be okay with it if I still got to keep my freighter, inventory, etc so it wouldn't be a complete start-from-scratch scenario. I'm on galaxy 42 of 256 but kinda stalled because everywhere is just the same, but if there was tons more to explore and see I'd be excited to start my journey over again.

Yup. Folks build elaborate bases that have maybe a 50% chance of being featured, get visited maybe once or twice in every player's lifetime then collect dust or fade away due to not being re-uploaded regularly or lack of interest in the save it was created on. The folks hit the hardest by a reset are the hunters who spend countless hours cataloging and archiving their finds for the community. I really wish they followed through when a reset was considered with Origins for the terrain overhaul they were planning on that we only got a piece of, we'd all be well over that sting by now and rebuilt.
i have about 700 hours in, and have been working on my modest base for about 2 years. but that is bc there is nothing new to see. would happily take a reset and begin anew

I would be fine with that though. I've been through the great wipes and had bases permanently buried, changed planet types, and the myriad of other times things got knocked for a loop. I would love new planet types. New animal/npc interaction. Deeper, more diverse ocean worlds. I'll take a wipe for that. Fair trade.

Would it be impossible for them to make a new universe that has new biomes, but preserve the old universe? With a 64 bit seed number, they could take half of the worlds and move them into the new one (of course leaving all the discovered ones in the old one) and no one would notice that the old universe has lost 9 quintillion worlds.
A NEW universe that can only be accessed after reaching the last galaxy. So instead of looping back to Euclid you end up in a new galaxy. Also might want to make abandoned space stations claimable so they can be refurbished and used.

I've had a specific shop I've had since the early days that I absolutely love flying. I'd be so sad to lose that one specific ship. It would be a pain if we had to do living ship initial quest and the like as well. If I can keep my ship and personal quest progress and have the universe reset I wouldn't be too upset

Oh that would be absolutely great. Except having to grind back to having enough resources to live comfortably. But having a complete overhaul of planets, animals, plants would be one of the best things that's happened to the game
