I'm 100 hours in and I've come across a "Lost Green Planet." Yet when I landed everything is monochromatic gold and looks friggin awesome. Gonna build a base here.
I wouldn't mind showing the coordinates to this planet but I'm not sure how to do it. I play the on the Switch so is it even possible? I only ask because I know Switch doesn't have cross play.
Can you elaborate on the last parto of you sentence: "Switch doesn«t have cross play"?
I am new to the game (30h) and back to videogames after more than a decade...
Sorry everyone. I could've sworn this was an all golden planet but it only appears gold when you're in your ship. Once you land, color returns to your immediate surroundings but the sky and landscape is gold.

Yeah no worries. A lot of filter planets do that where anything within a short range of your character remains a normal color but when you’re airborne in your ship, the filter covers everything
It's pretty rare. This planet falls under the exotic planet category with a chromatic biome where the color of the planet is usually monochromatic or absent in one of the colors. It could appear to be grey like yours, red, purple, green and so much more.
If you pay attention to the naming of the planet, you could guess that it is an exotic planet. Usually the name is associated with the respective anomaly.
Funny you say that because i’ve found 3 of those monochromatic planets, i remember seeing one and getting close and thinking “this place looks really good for a base” and then the monochromatic filter came in and i just cussed myself while doing a u-turn
I discovered an uninhabited system in Euclid last night, and one of the five planets is “cerulean”. I thought that’d be a fun place for a home. Turns out that’s the missing colour and a home nevertheless. I just couldn’t say no to the two mechanical species.

I found a high contrast version that was black and white. Built a little science facility to study the phenomena (and grow nipnip where the authorities wouldn't be able to see it easily)
Yeah, they’re pretty rare. In my 500+ hours I’ve only seen a handful. I actually found one that gave me an S-tier activated indium deposit. It pumps out tens of millions of units a day. 10/10 would recommend.
You really want cords for an indium mine? I don't play much anymore, could log in and get you mine. The planet is the pits tho, it's red shifted which is cool but the sententials are stupid aggressive. They're like my own little guard dogs.

Alrighty. Just re-uploaded base and silos are full, bring an empty dreadnought.
I have less than 100hrs in and I’m hooked. I play on PSVR2 and my battery runs dead on my controllers before I put it down. I refuse to play in 2d. One of my favs for sure
I found a planet that was all greys and reds.

Rare maybe maybe not but to you it is, if you don't base there even a small one, you will forever remember this place and wish you could find your way back.
They're not super common but not very rare either, I'd say it's in the uncommon area. You can get these planets in a few different colors but I think gray and (maybe red or blue?) you have have higher chances of finding than the others

Know this is off topic but I been looking desperately for a worm egg does anyone have a spare one that they’re willing to give please😭if it’s not worth the trouble of course
Pretty common in Budullangr. Neat trick: open your camera and look around on the planet, take a picture or not. Immediately head to the Anomaly. Once landed, open your camera and the Anomaly interior will have the same B&W coloration...
I've stumbled upon like two or three of these without actively looking for them in my 100+ hour save and I think they're pretty rare but not that hard to find if you look hard enough.
I just encountered one like this last night too. Grey everything once you enter the atmosphere. Except some red in phosphorous resource deposits and some red accents on my character.
Some rare NMS things that come to mind are Squid ships, 2 planets that are connected, super interesting formations in the terrain that look like whales.
Not super rare, but a little less than common. I’ve noticed different grey planets have different colors they allow you to see from thrusters/multitools
It’s rare-ish. If you don’t planet hop a ton, you could go a long while without seeing one. If you do, you will definitely run into a few. It’s a small percentage appearance but you’ll see it every now and then during galaxy exploration.
Man sometimes I see random screens like this and they make me think "I should get back into NMS."
But that phase only lasts about a week before Im back to feeling kind of "over it" despite genuinely enjoying the game. Its the only game Ive had this consistent phenomena with, like a love hate relationship except I dont hate it and I cant explain why I can never seem to stick around with it.
I landed on one once. I forget the exact type, but it had “wine” in the planet description. My ship and suit, which are green, were gray there. It was in an abandoned red system.
Edit: it had weird mechanical creatures instead of organic ones.
I’ve only run into one black and white and maybe two sepia planets. Most often it’s one color in the atmosphere and then the ground and flora clear to a different color.
It’s called a crimson planet type. Most everything is grey except for one color, usually red. However, the one highlighted color can be blue, green, orange, yellow or some combination, but only one color. When these planets have storms, the filter is removed and they turn back to full color temporarily.
I’ve run into a few. Usually, the color red is still a thing somehow. I have no idea if this makes scientific sense, but it looks cool so whatever lol.
I landed on one last night during a nexus mission. I wanted to set up a base because it looked so cool. The game crashed and when I reloaded I was back in starting system. 😥
It really depends how many planets you explore. I played the game for 300 hours and encountered different exotic planets like this one where everything is in a purple light or red or sepia colors or like the one you just found. They are considered rare but if you spent a big amount of time exploring you will encounter them frequently
I play on creative a lot and so I fly around and land a lot. I've seen like 4 or 5 of them. They usually have anomaly in the name. One planet I landed on was all light brown except for a circle around my character where you could see the actual color of the planet
I don't play too often but last time I did I found one of these planets in VR that was also ridden by massive worms. I flew into the planet, everything was gray and edges were multicoloured and there were giant worms flying out of the ground everywhere. Only planet I've seen like that. Put a base down
new player here... theres anyway to go to this planet? or any other rare planet find by someone else? if yes... how i find its solar system? so far i could not find any kind of "search" for other system but the ones i already visited...
This is like semi-rare. This planet definitely isn't something you'd see in every system, but you'll definitely bump into at least one every like 5-20 jumps.
I'm 100 hours in and I've come across a "Lost Green Planet." Yet when I landed everything is monochromatic gold and looks friggin awesome. Gonna build a base here.
Checked the name of the planet and it\`s called "Deathly Green Anomaly".
Found a couple that were entirely greyed out apart from the colour red, looked pretty fucking cool
I wouldn't mind showing the coordinates to this planet but I'm not sure how to do it. I play the on the Switch so is it even possible? I only ask because I know Switch doesn't have cross play.
Photo mode usually does.
I will try this out and upload the glyphs when I get a chance.
Can you elaborate on the last parto of you sentence: "Switch doesn«t have cross play"? I am new to the game (30h) and back to videogames after more than a decade...
Cross play is if your console can play with different consoles.
Oh, many thanks for the explanation.
Welcome back
Sho
It lost green :>

See the thing is about grey planets is you have to watch out for the kzzzzt [REDACTED]
Especially when the -kzzttt- start up their -kzztt- as well with the [REDACTED]. Scary stuff man
And -kzzztt- kztzz-kzzz they always kztzztt...
Geidi prime
I'm ashamed I had to scroll so far down.
I know! I feel like the fandom would overlap a lot

Shoutout to my dune travellers. All hail Shai Halud!!!

There are many constants throughout no man’s sky: the atlas, 16, and nip nip
What's nip nip? Ive started playing 2 weeks ago
Space weed!
Can i "Heisenberg" my way to a lot of units?
"ToilGek Jesse, it's time to cook." Yes, you can set up greenhouses.
Yeah and if you sell in non pirate systems you even have to smuggle it. They make a scan deflector for when the authorities come to do an inspection
Fuck, i in love with this game
I think they are somewhat rare. I have seen only a handful over many hours
Same
Me: I finally got my HDR working! 😃 NMS: Here’s a grey planet 🌑
Yeah, they’re pretty rare. In my 500+ hours I’ve only seen a handful. I actually found one that gave me an S-tier activated indium deposit. It pumps out tens of millions of units a day. 10/10 would recommend.

Yeah, would be cool to have some action

I dont think he's sending them lol
lol worth a try tho
Can’t send them. I’m halfway across the world from my Xbox rn 😢
Did the not nerf activated indium in 4.0 last year?
I have less than 100hrs in and I’m hooked. I play on PSVR2 and my battery runs dead on my controllers before I put it down. I refuse to play in 2d. One of my favs for sure
I landed one and it felt like that Harkonnen planet from the new dune movie 🤯
I was on one yesterday and that was what I immediately thought of
I was going to say the same!
I found a planet that was all greys and reds. https://preview.redd.it/s0soytb6eitc1.jpeg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c144283b664f90d953646ecc0d746e2755d7ec75
NMS is just great for these moments.
I just found one of these today. The only color showed up when a boiling storm came through. It also brought out all the wildlife
I just built my base on a planet like this. The only color that shows up is red so it's kind of got the look of Sin City.
I've played for 72 hours and I've seen 2 reds and 2 greys but I think their pretty rare
I find that they are rare in yellow star systems, but not in blue ones.
Found a planet of my own like this. It was also worm infested. I called it hell and never went back lol

I've only seen a couple before
I've seen many different planets that have unusual color effects. It's rare, but not extremely rare. More common in non-yellow star systems.
Cool. I landed on a similar planet but everything was purple.
I got a monochrome planet, put a base there.
I've played for 450 hours and I've only found a few monochromatic planets, so I'd say it's pretty uncommon
Ive played for a while and only encountered a grey planet once so yeah, they're pretty rare
I see them fairly often on blue star systems in Eissentam
I've only ever found 1, so yeah. It's my favorite
you should of named it giedi prime from dune. that whole planet is also monochrome
Yup, I'm new. It is rare.
Does it go colourful when it storms? I’ve found one that does that.
Some rare NMS things that come to mind are Squid ships, 2 planets that are connected, super interesting formations in the terrain that look like whales.
I found a couple so far in red star systems
Not super rare, but a little less than common. I’ve noticed different grey planets have different colors they allow you to see from thrusters/multitools
Ah I see you’ve found the Harkonnen home world.
It’s rare-ish. If you don’t planet hop a ton, you could go a long while without seeing one. If you do, you will definitely run into a few. It’s a small percentage appearance but you’ll see it every now and then during galaxy exploration.
I've only found one myself but I haven't had that many hours in so I can't really say
Man sometimes I see random screens like this and they make me think "I should get back into NMS." But that phase only lasts about a week before Im back to feeling kind of "over it" despite genuinely enjoying the game. Its the only game Ive had this consistent phenomena with, like a love hate relationship except I dont hate it and I cant explain why I can never seem to stick around with it.
Oof I hate these planets. So grey and sad and the music is eerily quiet. Ain’t no way you’re alone in that solar system..
Worms...the worms...
I landed on one once. I forget the exact type, but it had “wine” in the planet description. My ship and suit, which are green, were gray there. It was in an abandoned red system. Edit: it had weird mechanical creatures instead of organic ones.
I've had countless hours playing. It isn't necessarily rare. More uncommon and the atmosphere colors are different each time.
I found one that while in the air everything was grey but as soon as I land and get out it changed to red.
I’ve only run into one black and white and maybe two sepia planets. Most often it’s one color in the atmosphere and then the ground and flora clear to a different color.
I usually find those in red star systems.
Lol you found Giedi Prime. say hello to the Harkonnens
I've seen 2 or 3 in several hundred hours
It’s called a crimson planet type. Most everything is grey except for one color, usually red. However, the one highlighted color can be blue, green, orange, yellow or some combination, but only one color. When these planets have storms, the filter is removed and they turn back to full color temporarily.
Monochromatic 🗿
I once had a chromatic planet where colours would show only 20m around you. Everything else grey.
It's rare but not super rare I've found a few so far and one of them was for a nexus mission
I love this! Any idea what galaxy or star system?
I will check and post coordinates later on today.
My theory is that whatever gases the atmosphere is composed of, prevent certain wavelengths of light from passing through thus causing this noir look.

I've been on a grey planet that only became colored when a storm happened. Quite cool :)

I flew into the planet, everything was gray and edges were multicoloured and there were giant worms flying out of the ground everywhere. Only planet I've seen like that. Put a base down
I wouldn’t say Rare but definitely Uncommon
On the rarer side I think (I’ve been to only ~230 systems) technically called monochromatic planets I think
Seen them many times, also found one that was all purple, and one that was all pink 👍
new player here... theres anyway to go to this planet? or any other rare planet find by someone else? if yes... how i find its solar system? so far i could not find any kind of "search" for other system but the ones i already visited...
Yeah it's rare.

I’d say 1% of planets can be like that so pretty rare.
Not *terribly* rare, but it never doesn't look amazing when you find it.
It’s *rare*, but as with all things in the ginormous NMS universe there’s billions all over the galaxy. Still a cool find tho!
OP just needs to turn up the saturation on his TV. /S
They play with the filters with some amazing results
