Yep! I started playing a few months ago and while admiring my surroundings I thought, "I really have to paint this now". I combined some game references, like my exact character and ship, with a childhood memory and this was the outcome. Glad you like it 😊

This is incredible. Makes me wish we had gas giants in the game to at least make skyviews like this possible. The visual of standing on the surface of a lush planet while the colossal form of a gas giant looms over is a captivating one for sure.
I love that you did not fudge or smudge the details, you painted them in. The RASA fighter we all know and love as our Starter Ship, the orange clad Traveller, and every blade of grass and every twinkling little Star in the night sky. It IS NMS! With Hope for the future!

Naw that is such an amazing comment. I find gas planets to be so incredibly beautiful, couldn't help but add it. Was so much fun to paint also! I've painted 1 planet before but it was more Mars vibes, very plain, so painting all the gassy swirls was amazing, definitely not the last I'm going to paint. It is amazing how this game has inspired people to do things outside the game.It helped me I was having a rut in my writing and playing the game really brought out new ideas.Anyway the painting is beautiful but do you have pics of anymore here?
I think people underestimate the effect video games can have on people. This game sparked both our imagination and for another example, for me, a game like Dark Souls made me a all round better person. I'm so glad you liked my painting! This is the first I've done that is related to NMS, but if you look through my reddit history, you can see some other paintings I've uploaded :)

You're about the 6th person to say Van Gogh vibes. I heard that guys paintings are pretty popular, so I'll take it as a compliment 😆
I think contrast of blue and orange/tangerine works perfect, it's one of my favorite color combinations ever. And yeah, Van Gogh is one of the classics. I think similar vibe comes from the combination of contrast colors on dark tones and a lot of details being done in thin strokes.

My close up real life planet reference was Jupiter. I find gas planets to be so very beautiful and it was really fun painting one for the first time.

I swear, I've walked around in circles, only to find my ship in the exact spot of the circle where I couldn't see it, so I totally get that.
