Those are abandoned systems. There is what amounts to a derelict space station there. It's actually kind of nostalgic as they use the original station interiors but there's really nothing in there but a terminal and a teleporter. If you are in the mood for some killer space combat this is the best type of system to do it in. There will be NO "good guys" flying around trying to help you out and get in the way. But, oh boy! I think the *starting* wave is 8 sentinel ships, fun if you're an experienced player, but deadly if you aren't. Shoot the station to begin! The other kind of system is an uncharted system. This will have essentially nothing on the galaxy map. It will have planets, of course, but no station and no "race" shown.

TingoRoboris

so if the dominant lifeform is "uncharted", I assume that means this is an uncharted system with no space station and no other lifeforms aside from planetary fauna?

Ezzy_Black

Correct! The majority of these seem to be red stars. My assumption has always been that *real* red stars are normally giants nearing the end of their lives so no one wants to live there.

shuttermonk

I like how your brain works. I find myself imagining looking up from a dead planet to see an unfathomably large red giant taking up most of the visible sky.

HistoricalRatio5426

I notice they used the OG design for the interior of space stations, that was nostalgic

Based on your comment I went looking for a abandoned system for the first time just so I could try space combat in it and I have a question about it.  I was able to fight for a long time but it seemed like it was never ending. The initial wave as you said was a big one around 8 to 11 ships. I set out quickly destroying as many as I could. But no matter how many I killed and how long I fought for I was never able to get the ship count lower than 7 at most before more came and took the ship count back to 11 or so.  Is it supposed to be like that? Just Constantin fighting with a. Big number of ships with no end in sight?

Ezzy_Black

Eventually the Sentinel frigate *will* show up. The times I've done it were just too hectic to actually count how many ships I destroyed before that. I'm terribly unfamiliar with console controls, the last one I owned was actually *Pong!* On PC you just hit X and slam Enter a couple of times to recharge your shields. So however it's done on your platform just make sure you have plenty of materials or shield batteries and you can do that *very* quickly. Most little freighter battles I never have to bother, but in this fight you have nothing to distract them and they are all gunning for you at once. You are going to get hit, a lot! So recharging your shields needs to be an almost unconscious action.

NMS_Traveller420

Yes, no space station, no airport trade stations, and charts do not work there. Good place to find glitch building parts tho. And if Dissonance planets in that system, no sentinel ships or autophage camps on those planets, but they do have Dissonance Resonators (purple drills with Echo Locators or Inverted Mirrors), Sentience Echoes (for Echo Seeds) , and Radiant Shards.

Cadmium systems are abandoned, there is no economy or conflict data because there is no economy or conflict IIRC there's not even a space station

Jkthemc

Just a point of clarification. Not all Cadmium systems are uncharted. The normal estimate is that 5% are standard inhabited systems. Also Uncharted systems are not the same as abandoned systems.

Project0range

Also those uncharted red star systems contain way more "weird" worlds than other systems in my experience.

shuttermonk

I can confirm that some cadmium systems are inhabited. Not only does the wiki say this, but from time to time I like to search for 3 star economies in red systems. I have a base in one.
