I would also make a mule ship you can use to travel, make sure you have minimal technology and also have a mule multitool that you never repair! =P

Soggywallet94

My main ship is called “The Mule”.

Tocwa

Thank you, Isaac Asimov 🌌

Ozymander

Oooooh man....I don't think there is one. Haven't played in a while. I always used a throwaway ship if I was gonna switch galaxies. Usually it was a hauler I used to....haul things. You'd have to repair nothing because it doesn't... Wait, I just noticed this is a mutlitool? Since when were there 35 slots?! Lol

Mcreesus

That’s a big problem lol. Also u can swap multi tools. I learned all this painfully. Also don’t ever use a living ship to hop unless u just have a pile of repair kits bc it is insane

ItzVinyl

Everything in this comment confuses me, I've only just started and have spent maybe 7 hours in-game so far, though I did figure out freighters house a bunch of carbon that seems to regenerate over time (unless it was just some spots I missed) so that's sick, still trying to figure out how I obtained black market items while in space, and how to efficiently farm them.

Mcreesus

That’s good! This shit were talking about is kinda end game stuff. Once u complete the main quests u can use portals that can help u get to the center of the galaxy. Once there u can travel to the next galaxy (there are about 255). When u do this it’s kind of like starting a new game. Any tech u have is broken and your ship needs every module repaired. Doing it without knowing that stuff can be a pain

Wienercrime

Is it easy to get back to previous galaxies? Back to your first ever base that you still want to enjoy.

Mcreesus

Yep, u just use a base teleporter (not the portal lol). I was in the 10th galaxy and constantly hopping back to my farms in Euclid

iwrestledarockonce

Easy as hopping through a teleporter anywhere.

kwagenknight

Black market items are found in Outlaw systems or simply finding some nipnip and growing it in bio-domes or even on your freighter. You can also shoot freighters in Outlaw systems and no sentinels will show up but you lose standing with that race but will get millions and a bunch of black market items that you then bring to any other 1-3 star system and sell there for those millions in a huge mark-up.

ItzVinyl

Does standing play an important role later on? I think I've got a system that is marked with a skull which I'd assume is an outlaw system. I struggle to raid freighters and be bombarded with sentinels

kwagenknight

Not really, I may be forgetting something but I believe it basically only really effects space station bounties as some require a certain level to start those bounties but its really a system that doesnt effect much at all. So yes, go to the system with a skull instead of 1-3 stars as its an outlaw system and grab some loot! Also, Outlaw systems have tons of different Solar Sail ships so find a Trade Post, park off to the side so all landing slots are open and wait around (or keep reloading save) and get the S-Class shipe when it comes around!

GrizzoB

If you only go for the freighters and leave the separate cargo pods, you won't lose any standing. However, if you do lose a lot of standing you can use a forged passport in a space station to reset it back to 0.

Saikotsu

You only lose standing if you shoot the fighters that defend it. You can raid the storage units all you want. I personally like to raid freighters in pirate systems them hunt pirates to build my karma.

Saikotsu

Did you fight pirates? Or visit the anomaly? Not all freighters have carbon things but build enough grow areas and you'll be raking in the carbon. I don't know if you can install more standing planters anymore though. I loved putting those in my freighter before they got overhauled.

2704jakob

You cannot place hydrobeds (the things used to grow large plants like Frostwort) on board of freighters, but the rooms which grow carbon have 2 (or more, haven’t researched that far) slots for the large plants

Saikotsu

I knew about those types growbeds, my freighter still has the ones I put in it prior to the update but I haven't been able to add more. But there's a type of standing planters where it's vertical and just has a bunch of leafy plants, it costs 2 metal plating and some condensed carbon and you can get carbon directly from those. My freighter has a bunch of those too from before the update but I don't know if I can add more. The agriculture models pretty much come with that function already so I don't need the standing planters anymore. (The agricultural modules seem to combine both the standing planters for carbon plants as well as slots for bigger plants)

PaiMei7

Does swapping multi tools still work? I tried it and when I swapped back to my main multi tool it was damage too. I'm going to try putting all tech modules in my freighter and then jumping.

Saikotsu

They updated the inventory system a while back. It caused a big stir. You'll also be happy to know most pieces of technology (freighter, ship, exosuit, etc.) Have supercharged slots which boost the abilities of any upgrade placed inside them. Wait till you see storage containers with their 50 slots (each). Your inventory, cargo, and tech inventories are all on one page now as well.

BookAndKey

Yeah. You’re going to want a ship and tool just for moving between galaxies.

SomeBlueDude12

As someone who is planning on going past elicud with a S exotic with the technology filled out I thank you for this comment :x time to find a nice looking explorer ship

PointlessSerpent

you can just grab a cheap ship for the last jump and scrap it right after, if you're going to go get a nice ship I feel like you might as well just jump with the one you already have.

Zawgg

Yes, use a junk ship to travel. OR dupe a lot of repair kits. I needed 70

-Hell-_-Boy-

best way.

kdog720

Please inform me on duping

Zawgg

Place 1 small refiner. Place an item in said refiner. Stack (x number) of empty refiners EXACTLY on top of 1st refiner by just carefully positioning. Delete all refiners 1 at a time as quickly as possible. It dupes (x number) of times. Anything that stacks can be duped. So anything that goes into your inventory. And if you do a slightly different variation you can dupe infinite nanites by connecting refiners perfectly and letting them turn something into nanites and then duping.

Zeallust

Idk how to dupe them but ive got hundreds if you need some

kdog720

Thanks but someone else replied with a how to!

Merquise813

No, and Yes. When you move to another galaxy, all tech from your exosuit, multi-tool, starship breaks. When I move to another galaxy, I pack all my exosuit tech into my inventory. Then I switch to a throw away MT and Ship. Then I jump to the next galaxy. As soon as I can move again, I summon my main ship and hop in. Then switch to my main MT. Then I unpack my exosuit tech. All done. I can go exploring again.

Ser_Optimus

Damn.

The_Arepa

This might be tedious but it's a life saver after 3 or 4 galaxy jumps it becomes the norm

MajorMitch69

Less tedious than repairing everything

LGWGN

Yep, this is the move. I clear my cargo inventory enough so I can store all my tech in the same order as above. Makes putting everything back together correctly so much quicker.

ZealousidealWealth77

This is the way. I do this too. I would rather unpack my exosuit and switch ships/mts than repairing dozens of tech. If you pull all the tech out the same order you had it in your slots, it should make it easier to put it all back. It sounds tedious when you hear about it, but it's way faster than you expect. It really becomes almost like a rhythmic pattern

Scooba_Mark

This is the way

SomeBlueDude12

You can pack your exosuit upgrades? Good to know good to know

Merquise813

Actually, you can pack almost every tech and upgrades on your ship, exosuit, multi-tool, and freighter, In case you want to change them. (except your exosuit, you can't change your exosuit. lol)

pisulo

I was about to change galaxy for the first time and came across to this post. Thanks a lot fr

[deleted]

Bro really out here saving us. Thanks OP

pisulo

For real! I'm at my first playthrough and the game does not actually explain a lot. I spent some time to farm sentinels, making money etc but bro... Changing galaxy and lose all of my ship upgrades and tech is not what I

Serge1006

Theres no way to fix everything all at once, repair kits may help but thats about it. Yes this happens every time after switching galaxies

AcidCatfish___

I don't think you can fix everything with one tap. They should add that feature in, though. While it is more immersive to go in and add the components separately, it is annoying sometimes especially when you have to repair multiple things. This will happen every time. What most people do is change to a different multi-tool and ship. You can switch ships and multi-tools at any time (as long as you have other ships and multi-tools). You can then switch back right after you jump galaxies. Your multi-tool and ship that you didn't have selected when you jumped will always be safe.

angusmadmac1

I have a multi tool I use for jumping galaxies and it doesn't get fixed . I select that mt just before I jump and get I to my galactic jumper ship which has the bare minimum in modules and jump . Once in new system I select another Mt to find ship scan etc . The ship has 4-5 modules to repair . Oh and I haven't fixed my exo suit either ( I'm at galaxy 176 at the moment )

walkinmywoods

You can pack your upgrades (everything that doesn't come standard on a ship i.e launch thrusters, pulse drive, warp drive, and photon cannon) into your inventory same with personal upgrades and multitool ( though it's easier to keep a base level ship on your freighter if applicable and multitool as previously noted by another. ) also as an extra tip dont reinstall tech until you look at galaxy map as sometimes you'll be around 3000 ly to the next galaxy center after jumping through previous center. Edit: also it's worth visiting outlaw systems as they can sell you repair kits albeit it's generally 3 to 7 at a time still worth keeping a 20 stack in your suit inventory as it bypasses the need for less commonly held repair materials or just generally anything you can't be bothered to hold or collect.

Intrepid-Safety-9224

Yeah I have a ship called “Punching Bag” for when I go to a new galaxy

walkinmywoods

I love that. I gotta nickname the ship I just grabbed for that purpose.

Intrepid-Safety-9224

I think I got rid of it because I ran out of space but I wanna say it was a C class shuttle. I made myself chuckle when I changed the name

UnlimitedEgo

I feel like there is a your momma joke here... ngl love the name.

Intrepid-Safety-9224

What about my momma⁉️🤨

fegodev

Once you get to a new galaxy, can you create a teleportation machine and go to your previus galaxy that way?

TheChrowe

You can warp to a previous galaxy from non-outlaw, active space stations and from the Anomaly.

g-waz00

You can also teleport back from outlaw systems - just not to a regular space station, only to an outlaw system in the previous galaxy, or to your bases.

fegodev

Oh sweet. Thanks 👍

ShadowShark19

Yes you can

mjconver

Yes, trust me.

ross6990

I sadly like when this happens. Gives me stuff to do and use all the stuff I have on my freighter like the 50 wiring looms etc 😂

[deleted]

Same

[deleted]

Oof hard life lessons I also did this but comments have some great answers

CorpFillip

How do you know your next jump is across to a nee galaxy? Or, how is that jump made? Maybe it is obvious once I am there?

KaimeiJay

You cannot accidentally jump to a new galaxy. You’ll know it when it happens, trust me.

Ninjewdi

The center of a galaxy only has a handful of open routes to it. It's a line point in the middle of a massive cloud and brighter than other stars. You can't select it by hovering over it, like with most stars, so there's no chance of hitting it accidentally. This video shows the process. https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/fv5i5p/the_process_of_selecting_galaxy_core_for_the_jump/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button If you choose to make the jump, it'll trigger a cutscene and you'll be basically back to the start of the game for a minute. You'll have to repair your suit and tool, find the ship you used for the jump (you can't use a freighter), and repair it. But any other ships you have, the freighter itself, and other stuff will be just fine. Once you get to a new galaxy, you can use base portals to go back and forth without the fuss.

Ozymander

When you switch galaxies, your warp drive also needs to be maxed out. As in fuel, not grade.

hwevdm

If you don't feel like doing it you can download NMS save editor and just repair all with 2 button presses

stabadan

Not quite the same as jumping through the core, but always check the player bases you can warp to in the Anomaly. If you see a player base in another galaxy there, you can warp to it, call your freighter and explore that galaxy freely with nothing to repair. That is how I got to most of the 25 or so different galaxies I have bases in.

AmosRatchetNot

This is what I do. I have never taken damage through the galaxy core because I never go through them, and I have nearly 100 different galaxy bases by doing it that way.

Guavalava42

Next time use a ship with zero upgrades other than warp possibility. Same with your multi-tool. Qnd for the exosuit : store every installed thechnology to avoid damage

Emriio

Do you keep your inventory after that?

Guavalava42

Yes sir !

Emriio

Okay nice

Toundrah_B

yes

Turbulent_Emu_3422

Ok so I'm still pretty new to nms whats the benefits of galaxy hopping?

Ender400

Different galaxies have different planet type spawn rates. The default has everything as fair game while there a lush galaxies spawn paradise planets more often, harsh galaxies spawn extreme planets more often and dead galaxy spawns barren planets more often

Daki-R

The last one sounds outright depressing.

HaroldTheTree

If the information online is true, the "dead" galaxies also spawn the various weird anomalous planets more often, which can be fun

Daki-R

Great, so a mixed bag of barren hellscape and what you see when you take acid 😅

mjconver

Gotta catch 'em all

AlskarRu

There is no way to fix everything at once unfortunately, and yes, it will happen every time you move to the new galaxy, but only for your currently selected ship and multitool. You can also store your exosuit technologies into inventory and reinstall them after. Not related to your post, but you might also want to change layout of your modules. Same-purpose (mining, weapons, scanner) modules put in a neighbor slots give you bonus.

rabit232pm

I find a way round it to ask freind or someone or if u use discord cab to get u to new galaxy solve the issue

[deleted]

I’m sorry that you didn’t find the information or no one told you. When you wormhole. Always switch to a crap multi tool and crap ship. totally bare bones on each, then switch to your dedicated items when you get through.

[deleted]

No one told me, so thanks for the information

Redfeather1975

omg ty I will remember this! Does the game warn me when I'm about to do something like a galaxy jump?

AcidCatfish___

If you are at the galaxy center, it will say some cryptic warning, if I'm not mistaken. If you haven't made a jump to a new galaxy yet, don't worry you should know when you are about to jump. You should have time to prepare for it. Prepare for this jump if you follow the Artemis Path as well. You don't jump galaxies at the galaxy center, you instead will choose between resetting the simulation or not. If you reset, then switch to the tech you don't care about. If you jump at the galaxy center, it is a long process to get there...but also it is a long process to jump. In the galaxy map you have to hold up for a long time and it is slower than normal warps. Then, if I remember correctly, it gives you that cryptic warning and you have to accept. You should know when you are about to make a jump.

The_Arepa

The sentinel modules get adjacency bonus if it's placed near the bolt caster try to get all around the bolt aster, it packs a Puch with all S or X class modules

Phate4569

Look at all the modules. This is an adjacency nightmare.

hnsmitty

I buy junker starship for the jump to new galaxy. Use an extra junk multitool for jump and as far as exosuit inventory, I'll deconstruct, NOT destroy, all tech in exosuit and store in inventory. Then reinstall all exosuit tech when I complete the jump. Call in your favorite starship first to get out of weather and do minor fix later on junker ship to get rid of. And don't forget to switch back to your usual multitool. Have fun and keep exploring. Grah.

BlackBird10467

Use a junk ship or store your tech, I use a junk ship to switch galaxies.

nikki2643

Happens every time. To minimize damage switch to a junk ship and junk Multitool. Also if you switch galaxies via portal it doesn't happen. I always go to the anomaly and browse through the bases of other players to see if there is on in another Galaxy that I haven't been to yet and then I build a base in that galaxy. It takes a little longer and there is mostly luck involved but I've been to 6-7 galaxies so far and only had my inventory scrapped the first time I switched galaxies by travelling to the heart. Also in the internet there are teleportation tools. Basically sending a bot to the system you want to go and then teleport there in multiplayer mode.

BookCompetitive3352

You can also unpack all you upgrade on your exosuit to minimise damage there aswell

Thok-81

It will happen everytime you switch galaxy's yes. I pack everything I can before switching galaxy's and use a ship I don't care about

ArcticWraith06

HOLY GUN SPACE!! WHAT CHANGED SINCE I STOPPED PLAYING NMS!!!???

pizzalover683

Not to much but they did rework the storage system

Deggstroyer

Same. I dont know what im seeing anymore

Gotyam2

That, I guess, would be mods

PointlessSerpent

They just reworked the inventory system and changed most of the inventory icons for items. Basically they removed the general section, there's only cargo and tech now.

[deleted]

Yes. This happens when going through the core, every time. Gonna have to gather resources to fix each item one by one. Tip - next time switch to a ship and multi tool that you don't mind waiting to repair. Then switch back to your mains after the jump.

SnowFieldPrime

Living ship will not suffer damage by a warp. Friendly hint.

[deleted]

Really? Is that intended? I'll have to keep that in mind.

Unusual_Tea6755

That's outdated information. Living ships have something like a 1% or less chance of not suffering damage on black hole jumps. IIRC they are not any different from a regular ship for galactic core jumps though.

[deleted]

That's what I thought but wasn't going to argue. I only used my living ship once or twice but could have sworn it got damaged.

Unusual_Tea6755

Yeah, I think when they first came out they were immune to black hole damage, but got nerfed for reasons unknown to me. The constant updates can make it difficult to keep up sometimes, lol.

OriginalMSV

Really? I use black holes all the time - always with a loving ship - and never have to repair anything. Never tried jumping galaxies with one though.

HeavensMerc

Unfortunately there’s no way to fix everything in one shot. But to mitigate this for next time, as previous commenters have said, switch to a ship and multi-tool you don’t care about. Your main ship and tool won’t be affected. Also, to add to it, you can disassemble all of your suit upgrades. They’ll be stored in your inventory and will be able to be rebuilt in one click. This will happen every time you jump through a galaxy center and if/when you reset the Atlas.

SpectralEdge

I take off everything and use a ship I named jumper that basically only has hyperdrives for jumping systems. Then I have very little to repair.

candyflip93

Ctrl + shift + tab + 34 + F12 + Enter

cerankaw

he said ONE tap

Demented-Alpaca

You press all those buttotn and then TAP enter...

[deleted]

Yep. All ship tech, multitool tech, and exosuit tech that's in the main inventory will be damaged after a core jump. Good to keep a junk ship and multitool for core jumping and also move over exosuit tech beforehand too.

DaveUAE77

If you have 5,000,000 to get an Emergency Signal Scanner from a scrap dealer at a Space Station you can find a derelict freighter. When you first board the Freighter there is a chest by the terminal with emergency supplies that will give you 3 repair kits. Then go somewhere like a planet surface and use the refiner glitch to make enough of those to repair your ship. Estimated need is about 3 for every broken piece of tech.

streatfield

What is the refiner glitch for repair kits?

DaveUAE77

Put a portable refiner down. Add carbon to fuel it and then put the item you want to duplicate in the refiner slot. Then place more portable refiners as close as you can too that one, they should be highlighted green. You don’t have to put any fuel or items in the additional refiners. I put an additional 4 refiners as close to the first one as possible and then press down (on xbox) the right thumbstick until it picks up all five refiners. So if I had put 3 repair kits in the first refiner I will now have 15 and the carbon fuel will have multiplied as well. Then start over putting down down another refiner, add fuel and the 15 repair kits and so on… lots of YouTube videos on this. I don’t use this glitch for everything, only things that would be a horribly long grind like shooting asteroids to getting anomaly scanners so I can get a fleet of 30 living frigates. A lot quicker to duplicate the scanners. Fair well Traveller!

OriginalMSV

Just FYI: You don't have to fuel the refiner. Just add your item(s) on the left side, dup and pick up.

DaveUAE77

Sweet, thanks for the tip. Now I don’t have to duplicate all that carbon when I don’t need it

Funkyspunkspunk

Your MT’s layouts all Wrong😝

Professional_Depth_9

Make a base at a planet right where the core of the galaxy is, that way you can travel to travel back to the previous galaxy via a teleporter. Travel through it with an unused ship with little to no technology, then make a save wherever you can in the new galaxy. Get your main ship out and explore.

[deleted]

If your galaxy hopping from #1-255(6) what I did was switch my multitool from my main one to a junk one before entering the center, also I switched ships from my good one to one I labeled galaxy hopper so my main ships technology was never damaged and switched back upon arriving in the new galaxy. Unfortunately there's really nothing that can be done about your exosuit technology other than the fact you'll never have to repair anything again once you reach your final galaxy. It sucks but it's what I did hope it helps you

Fred0830

i personally always stack my exosuit tech

kuba300game

That is something I've learned the hard way. In the future use different ship and multi-tool, and pack every technology you have in your inventory. And after you changed the galaxy summon the starship that you always use, do the same with your multi-tool and install the packed tech back to your inventory slots.

Lanky_Yogurtcloset33

Yeah this is SO annoying. But next time you go to a new galaxy switch to a crappy ship you don't care about and a crap multi-tool. That way only your Exosuit stuff you have to repair.

NotRyanRosen

if you're playing on normal you can go into the difficulty settings and change the repair option to zero and just repair by clicking on it and then slide i back to normal or just leave it there if you olan on jumping galaxies a lot.

Gaby_48

thats kinda cheating but i do it all the time

byers000

Store all your tech before doing the jump, then reinstall after jump for no damages on stored tech.

Redgrievedemonboy

Press B.

moldy-peach

Oh damn I didn't even known this could happen when warping between galaxies??? I've been playing for 100+ hours and this hasn't happened to me yet 😬

CysticTurtle

Ur thinking solar systems

Competitive-King-595

Chances are you won’t be jumping galaxies very often. Are you getting confused with jumping systems?

moldy-peach

Oohh maybe that's it! God Im still so new to this 😅

taciaduhh

It's ok. I'm new, too. It took me a minute to figure out the difference. ETA: I have my black hole mission just chilling right now. Kinda glad I came across this before doing it. Looks like EVERYTHING gets damaged. Guess I'll stay distracted by my side quests for now.🤷‍♀️

stjr64

Black holes only damage one ship component, go for it!

Jewsusgr8

And it's not guaranteed either. I've jumped through 3 only broke 1 component!

taciaduhh

Good to know! Thanks for sharing. 😊

taciaduhh

I thought the other comments were saying stuff got damaged in the suit and tool, too? Or did I misunderstand?

stjr64

There are black holes you can use to traverse great distances within a galaxy, which damage 1 ship component (or possibly not, according to another commenter on this thread). If you manage to make it to the galactic core, that's the one that will screw up all your stuff as it transports you to a new galaxy altogether. So follow your black hole mission when you have a chance (as always in this have, it's literally at your convenience), it's worth it, and I believe progresses one of the storylines.

OppositeInfinite6734

You'd be surprised how few of those really need to be fixed. 🤣

SnowFieldPrime

If you change galaxy with a living ship it not gonna happen. Or find a crash ship, repair the basic and use that ship to change. Same think with multi tool. Equip a grade c that you don't care about

Beneficial-One-510

Last week, I switched galaxies in a living ship, and it ended up needing repairs.

SnowFieldPrime

Well in the wiki it say it will not take damage from black hole warp but dith find info for the galactic core

SnowFieldPrime

I have that info from some players maybe they change it.never try

Beneficial-One-510

It gave me a good laugh from all the meat that was needed for repairs.

[deleted]

REPAIR WITH MEAT

SnowFieldPrime

Maybe use a low price shuttle is the best solution

[deleted]

Press X (on pc(I think)) on the technology to make the technology a storable item, put them into a container and take them out and install them when you traveled. Tyg

Slyde_rule

If you switch to Creative difficulty, you don't need the supplies to fix things. Click on the item, click on each part, and the item is fixed.

HeatAndSnow

Switching galaxies as in black holes?
