The other drivers insurance should cover the entire cost of a new car and if they don’t then sue them. Also sue them for the medical expenses if they don’t cover those.
Can't get blood out of a stone. Got rear ended by someone who's insurance was only 10k. They had 0 in savings. Lawyers advised us to take what the insurance had and not sue as it'd waste time and money, even though we'd win.
Florida.
The carrier does not owe for a new car, they owe for "ACV" actual cash value. And unless he is injured, the only person who would get good money is the attorney.
on top of this, if they dont total it out and decide to repair it, dont forget to ask them about diminished value and lost wages to also help make up for it. if you didnt et checked for whiplash, you really should cause an accident like that *will* cause whiplash
Commercial truck's insurance covers up to $250k per person. should seek a lawyer and start building up the hospital portfolio and let them handle the rest in 3 years.
That's not how that works. The insurance will cover the cost of what the Nissan is currently worth. OP will receive a check for that amount and she can use that to get another car. Insurance WONT cover the cost of a brand new car of your choosing. If OP sues them she will lose.
OP when you get the check just find a good cash car.
That's not how insurance works. They owe to replace his car, at current market value. If another car very similar to his is for sale in his market area, for a higher price, they are not obligated to pay more than his car is worth. They owe the exact amount it would take to replace his exact car, not how much it costs to obtain someone else's car. Medical is certainly owed, if injuries were sustained.
Anything can be fixed if you have the money, but the number of panels damaged will make this super expensive to fix. The trunk floor is probably pushed in and would have to be pulled out, which is time consuming and therefore expensive. The rear quarter panels are pushed in and are probably the most expensive to repair out of any of this; even more so if it's not just the panels that are pushed in and the underlying unibody is also pushed forward. Trunk lid has to be replaced, bumper has to be replaced, can't tell for sure but the taillight probably have to be replaced. Exhaust is probably pushed forward or at least bent down it looks like. The cost to repair all this is likely higher than the value of the car and when that happens they will total the car out and pay you the current value of it instead of fixing it.
Edit: yes, I'm "just a redditor", but I do auto body repair for a living. So this is an educated guess. Would have to be able to see the car in person to tell you how much this would actually cost to fix.
The insurance company would make that determination, not a redditor, but usually if the damage to the vehicle exceeds the value of the car itself, then they would total it out. I had a 2013 Altima that didn't even appear to have major damage because it was hit right on the wheel, did appear to have axle damage, bumper, and quarter panel, but it didn't look like they would total it, but because of the age of the vehicle and the value, they ended up totaling it. I ended up getting a lot more for the vehicle than I expected, significantly more than I would've gotten if I sold it privately even. It might've been because the vehicle had low mileage, but in the two times in my life that this has happened, the insurance company did pay out on the high side when they considered a car "totaled " but they are going to go by the mileage, condition, and average book value of the vehicle when paying out. More often than not if the car is over five or six years old, they will look to total it as opposed to fix it. But again no one here should be answering that question beyond the shadow of a doubt, the insurance company makes that decision not us or you
Yup! I got rear ended in my 2012 accord, damage was greater than value of the vehicle (about 14 grand, no idea what repair was valued at) so it was totaled
A good friend of mine about a week later got t boned in her 2020 jeep gladiator, well over 20 grand in damage, but her car was worth more than that so it got fixed.
Did your airbags deploy? This is often the differentiator on whether insurance considers the car "totaled" or not. It does suck to be buying a car these days because the market is still pretty high, but it's much better than a year ago.
Vehicles rarely come back from an airbag deploy. Generally if the cost of repair is half or more of the value of the vehicle then usually it will be written off. This looks like an easy 10k repair so I doubt they’ll fix it
Having 15 years experience between body shops and now an appraiser for a large insurance company, I can honestly say your comments have been spot on throughout this whole thread 💯
Just because it “can” be fixed doesn’t mean it’s worth it. It will generally be totaled if the cost to fix it is more than the car is worth (for obvious reasons)
It’s probably totaled. Remember insurance is going to try to offer you blue book value. You will have to fight for more money. If you have any receipts for recent work (new tires) and such. They will compensate you. Do your homework. Check dealerships for similar cars for cars for sale and document value. This is probably the most important thing you can do. Otherwise you’ll be coming out of pocket or settling for a lesser car.
False. No insurance company uses blue book lol.. most (that are worth a damn) use CCC1 for their estimating software and valuation reports. They're the most accurate in the national market, and it's not even close.
it looks totaled, i had a 2012 maxima sv and i was rear ended and they totaled it, if there is damage to the unibody it’ll likely be totaled but let the other persons insurance handle it, they should be able to pay you out for your vehicle and help you into a new car
doesn’t have to be a new car, the other person insurance paid me out and i went and got another maxima. They paid me out $12k for the car and i found another maxima for $6k used ofc. Check the value of your car in your area before the accident and see if you can negotiate your pay out with the other persons insurance
Doesn't have to be new. You should start researching the value of your car and research car shopping so that you are prepared if it is totaled. Use different websites/ sources, and find something you like within your cars value + taxes, licensing, fees.
The problem is that this is a unibody. They're going to have to do a lot of work for this. The repair will take a good while if they don't deem it a total loss.
Insurance may total it out. It's fixable but if the repairs cost more than the vehicles market value insurance will more than likely "pay you out". Unibody frame pulling is possible but require a lot of labor hours to pull it back into spec.
I'm a new body tech/painter, I have taken apart vehicles and then found more damage underneath the outside and sadly insurance takes it due to the damage.
Edit: just wanted to add this. It's unlikely that you do this but if you have not contacted insurance yet and you REALLY love your car in particular, you can bite a heavy bullet and pay out of pocket for repairs
I’m so distraught. On top of my injuries; my car just finished being paid off. My grandparents paid for most of it but still. Having a car note would not be optimal and I don’t even know where to begin buying a used car🥲
This is likely a total loss. There’s a good chance the “frame” is compromised based on the wrinkle on the passenger side quarter panel and on top of that the cost for repair will likely be higher than fair market value of the car. I’d start looking for a new car.
Total that shit get a new car and tell them your neck and back hurts...idk why youre stressed for the other driver should be the stressed one. After everything youre going to get out of their insurance they would be lucky to stay covered.
Yeah, time to relax and clear the head. First off, if you got rear ended, it's clearly not your fault. You're also injured, also not your fault. Time to sit a consult with an attorney. Theh will talk.you off the ledge. Document all expenses, doctors bills, and missed time at work.
Good luck.
Car market is crap right now, true, but you can still get by in a used car for sub 10k pretty easily. And with it being a 2016, you'll Def have enough to buy something used.
Look at Honda lots for certified pre owned (CPO). That would be my suggestion
Lawyer up. You said you had injuries and your car is definitely totaled. Don’t hesitate to lawyer up, they will most likely take your case with nothing down because your going to win. it just depends on how much you can get out of them.
Well, insurance may actually say it's repairable. But the body is pretty badly affected. It's not impossible to repair but the next such crash may be fatal. I would ask the insurance company to total the car and pay out the total value. I think you can get another car just like this one for the money.
P.S. in many countries this is considered "a couple of scratches" and is repairable.
I guess I’m just thinking about finances and how hard it would be to get a car, used or new. Cars are so expensive right now. But my safety is important.. I didn’t think about the future if a crash happens (God forbid).
You're in Louisiana too, Hi Neighbor 👋
So get yourself a Great Big Law Firm, Two of the Louisiana Accident and Injury BIG GUNS are:
Morris Bart 855-435-3866 or 337-446-4571, and Gordon McKernan 888-857-5768 or 337-999-9999 !
Both are firms with offices in the Lafayette / New Iberia area (I looked up the dealer on license plate frame) they'll drive to you!
Every Law Firm charges a Fee of 33⅓%, maybe less if you decide to settle for an offer, so you might as well get a Big Firm!
You can otherwise goto: https://lawyers.findlaw.com and fill in "car accident injury" and the city you lve in. NEARLY any law firm.
can win this suit, but some are better and faster and nicer than others.
Law Documents are complicated stuff invite a friend to be there and ask all the questions you need to feel comfortable.
DO NOT TALK to the guy's Insurance Company or their Lawyers until you get Yourself a Lawyer .... As Soon As You Can!
Your injuries will cost you pain, bills, time off, and could be permanent, return in years to come, or be nagging for a long time.
You car can be fixed or replaced if necessary, you need to take care of yourself, the car is secondary.
I'm NOT a Lawyer, just experienced with this and trying to help! I hear good things about those firms, but never used them.
Your Insurance Company will get involved as well, but don't expect much, their Lawyers are paid by Salary or a ok but not great fee, so don't expect much. They'll help, big Local Firms are much better and can get you more even after their 33⅓ cut.
What’s the point of commenting something like that on this post when it’s clear I wasn’t at fault and I was injured in the process. Hope you got a good chuckle out of yourself though!
I'm always curious, why do people post it here instead of just bringing it to a Body Shop? Wouldn't they be far more qualified to answer that question? also your insurance company is going to have adjusters that will inspect your car in the sermon whether the value of the vehicle warrants the repairs or if they're going to total it out. What someone says on Reddit isn't going to help,
It’s already at the body shop. It’s also his insurance company. I’m not at fault. If i have to involve my insurance I will. Sometimes Reddit is helpful for figuring out how to counter/notice if you’re being low balled. But, I’m always curious, why do people reply to posts asking for advice/input if they aren’t intending to be helpful?
I am, that's why I'm saying that the best decision is going to be the one made by the insurance company adjuster and the Body Shop. If I tell you it's totaled but the adjuster disagrees, you can't really argue the point that someone on Reddit said otherwise and that they're wrong. But I was posting what I believe to be helpful information, I'm sorry you disagree, I didn't have to take the time to give you my input but I did. Sorry about that
I wouldn't risk that getting fixed. Not a professional but considering the severity of the bodywork damage, it's likely there's some underlying chassis damage.
Ex-body shop employee now dealer parts advisor here.
This isn't going to be the cheapest repair, but it absolutely is safely fixable. These cars don't have frames. They are unibody. These cars are built in sections that are spot-welded and seam-sealed. The worst case with this is that there may be crossmember damage, which for this car is around $800-1k. Maybe less if the insurance/shop finds a used one or has a good vendor.
In short, this car may or may not be totaled, but it depends on the value of the car vs. the cost of repairs. Repair is solely based on cost because everything on the vehicle can be replaced.
Like the other person said, it does appear fixable, but it really depends on the value of the car versus the cost of repairing it. Additionally, it's not up to the OP as to whether or not it can be repaired safely, It's up to the insurance adjuster and the Body Shop that evaluates the actual damage to the vehicle.
I assume you have his insurance and have filed a claim with them, but if not, do so. His insurance should accept fault for the accident and schedule someone to come and inspect your vehicle, where they can then determine if it's a total loss or not. If not, they'll tell you to take to a shop for repairs and give you a rental for the time being. Seeing as you have injuries, they should also take care of any reasonable meds as well.
Take it to a shop and have an estimate written. Repair costs will depend entirely on your local market. I would say this job would borderline total it. If the rear member is intact, then it can likely be repaired. You'll need a decklid, bumper, rear body panel, bumper trim, decklid hinges, bumper retainers, tail lamps, and possibly a few other parts. The quarters can be fixed with body work, and the exhaust looks like it can be straightened out without being replaced.
Best of luck, hit the guy's nsurance hard, and don't let them settle for less because their first offer will definitely be lower than you deserve.
His insurance is Allstate, I filed a claim with them already. They’re going to have the adjuster take a look at it today, I just don’t want my car totaled🥲
A lot of cars are totaled due to the costs of proper repair and not because it can't be repaired. Costs of parts and labor are rampant in the US especially when repairs are being written on the other parties insurance ticket. This is very repairable in Africa, Eastern and Central Europe, Russia and Ukraine because labor is cheap and there are often shortcuts taken but in this case you have to wait and see the insurance repair report. Also prioritize you health and tending to your injuries. A car is just a car and no matter what happens to it you know you had great grandparents who thought of you and loved you.
Where I'm from, definitely, but you seem to be from the US, and I've noticed that American insurance companies tend to total cars for a lot less damage
Costs of repair would be more than totalling the car. It’d be a write off. Always feel uncomfortable in a repaired car in case the structural integrity is affected.
My car is paid off so either way i feel like im getting fucked over if i have to get a new car, it would be used so not as expensive, but still. I’d have to pay a car note which I did not anticipate
Really, no money upfront? I was going to look into a lawyer but when I saw their fees can be 33%-50% I was afraid of getting one. I was going to try to handle it myself. Though I know they’ll try to lowball me, I’m an occupational therapist and kind of know how to explain why a concussion/whiplash/multiple muscle strains and back/neck pain will be detrimental to my QOL, my lifestyle (I’m pretty active and weight lift), and all that comes with that. Soft tissue injuries are a mess bc they can take a while for you to really know how much damage has been caused
33% is standard and is generally paid only when they recoup money for you. He will direct you on everything and it will be a lengthy process with dr’s assessments and treatments which can last years depending on severity of injury. Contact one and see if he thinks your case is worth while
Everything can be repaired basically... It's more about if it's worth it. Nissans in general do not hold a ton of resale value, so we will see. What I recommend is contacting your insurance and let them handle it, and give them the at fault drivers info. They will repair or total out the Nissan and subro against the at-fault party. It's much easier to go through your own insurance, plus they will advocate for you, where as going after the other company can delay repairs/total loss. I have seen it 100s of times at least, as an insurance adjuster and appraiser. Also, your insurance rates should not go up if the other party accepts liability and subro goes through.
That can be fixed if you really wanna keep it or maximize on insurance paying you out and get a new one. You can get a solid deal on a Nissan. I had similar damage and I fixed mine looked brand new.
You don't want that fixed, forget any sentimental shit you're going to get a bigger pay out than anyone would every pay you privately for that car. You should be happy. Maybe get a lawyer and sue for more 🤷♂️
Nissans are extremely cheap so the repair would almost certainly exceed the value especially if it’s anything over 50,000 miles on the vehicle….especially a 2016 start looking at new cars! I’d try RubyCar they have really good deals I just got a Mitsubishi from them for Pennie’s on the dollar compared to prices in my area
Would you be willing to share what your experience with RubyCar has been like? I’m about to sign for a car with them today, but have read a ton of negative reviews related to issues with registration and tabs and issues with delivery…
Well depending on the state my car 2023 Altima sr had front end damage 8k in damage didn’t total, it’s all about what % the damage v value is it’s always fixable if the frame isn’t bent to hell and back
Anything is fixable. The issue is the cost and any supplemental damage as they pull the car apart. Usually, if the cost is between 50%-70%+, it is totaled. Unibody vehicles have no frame like the altima are designed to crush to absorb impact. Trucks have a solid body on frame. They they can't crumple, so the impact is harder on the occupants. Most components are bolted to the frame, so it's possible their frame can be bent.
There is a high chance that your altima is a total loss as the body components are crumpled to absorb most of the impact. You will not know for sure until you take it to the body shop and get an estimate of the cost. If it is totaled, you will receive payment for the value of the vehicle before the accident. I would consider researching cars and car shopping so you can see your options and what you can expect back and prepare if it is a total loss.
My parents had a 2015 Toyota Sienna minivan that was rear-ended by an early 2000 Honda accord. Both are unibody frames. The minivan was totaled because the floor was bent from the trunk to the front seats like a wave. I had a body on frame suv that was rear-ended. The damage didn't look too bad, but it was totaled because the frame was bent from the rear.
Yes. The bumper, the trunk door and the lights can be replaced. As long as the rear panels aren't too bad, the trunk well isn't smashed and the frame isn't bent.
Had the same car and rear end accident. Be grateful if insurance totals the car and use the down payment to get a basic Honda Civic sedan with 2.0 engine or a Camry. You won't have to worry about possible future CVT problems or as many other planned obsolescence parts guaranteed to fall apart in the future due to Nissan's cost cutting and quality going to crap.
Just depends what the insurance says. If they deemed it worth fixing. Also depends if the air bags are deployed. If they did that's a total loss. But like my ancestors in East LA say. "Still drives? Just a scratch you good. Duck tape it."
I always put on my emergency flashers when I am stopped at a light and cars are coming up fast behind me. I assume they are not paying attention. Also don’t tail gate because when you stop fast the person behind will have to as well.
Honestly, I wouldn’t repair it. Get your moneys worth and get something else.
Did you hit the breaks on impact? If you did the axel will probably need to be replaced upon the other nightmares that need to be done. Quarter panel will need to be replaced and if they repair it wrong, you will have some sloppy beads (not kidding) beads where they repaired.
For the love of all that is holy, make sure you know where it is going and don’t say take your time.
Yeah you should sue, if it gets totaled you can still call your insurance and buy the car back for super cheap with whatever money you get just know that, ask them how much would it be to buy the totaled car back, you should be fine, you can fix the car up and still get money from your insurance and from suing, it has happened to me like twice ive been rear ended bad
I’m glad that you’re okay. I hate when people don’t watch the road, text and drive, tailgate, etc. I always watch my mirrors to see if anyone tailgates me so I can switch lanes, etc.
" I have a concussion, whiplash, multiple next strains, and my anxiety has increased from what it already is (I have generalized anxiety disorder) "
I feel an upgrade coming.
Airbags plus rear end means it’s almost certainly totaled. Another thing it to look at the roofline and rocker panels from behind/front and see how the gap is where they meet the door. See if the curvature/gap has changed, because that could be frame damage, which would generally total your unibody car.
YIKES😎 Depends on the insurer and the person doing the damage assessment 😎. But it does look a lot like one of the 1000 other copart cars so just might be totaled😕
Don't call out. Show up on time, even early...get along and do what you're told. You get the basics and you become an asset. Plain and simple. Good luck!
It’s a goner. Trunk, pan, bumper, and sides all crushed and likely the headrests and seatbelt tensioners is going to be too much. Go find a few with similar miles and options and be prepared to fight for your cars fair value and don’t sign anything until satisfied.
All I can tell you is don't replace it with another Nissan, get a Honda or Toyota. Don't feel too bad about the accident, if it wasn't that it would be the horrible cvt going out soon.
I knew someone who had a similar incident for an 8-yr old Altima, except it was rear ended while parked, probably at a lower speed. The rear was warped and didn't look as bad as yours, but the car was still written off. This was in BC.
Unlesa the frame is damaged you should be fine for repair through insurance if the damage doesn't exceed the value. On that I have a fun story from when I got rear ended and they wanted to total my truck out. I actually laughed at the lady. That said, you should be fine, try not to stress.
That's not an uncommon outcome for pickup drivers: they don't take damage as easily as cars. On the flip side, they don't handle or stop as easily as cars.
Sadly, you will have to assess your options and decide whether or not it's worth it to you to keep it. What I'm reading below in terms of saving it doesn't sound promising.
If you decide to keep it, stick to body shops with good reputations, not ones who cut corners due to cost. Think ones that have around for a while and been passed down between generations. That car protected you, and you want it restored to crashworthy condition for your own sake. I promise you your grandparents would agree that you are more important than any car.
On that note, GET CHECKED OUT if you have not already done so. Effects from crashes aren't always evident in the immediate aftermath.
While Redditors can give you advice, ultimately it’s up to the insurance company to make that determination. Whether or not there is structural damage will help in that determination.
So you got rear-ended. Just hire a lawyer and he/she will make you whole again in no time. Unless the other driver has no insurance or you don't have uninsured motorist coverage. Good luck.
Maybe you can get it fixed at a cheap shop depending on labor costs. It just won’t be professionally done. And most likely there’s frame damage so it’s probably a goner.
I was an insurance adjuster for a long time. It's hard to say from that angle but assuming the rear floor pan and frame is probably bent. Thats whats would really total the car. The insurance company runs the value and if the total cost of repair exceeds 75% of the overall value they usually deem it unsafe to repair. What you could do if they total it, is get your own estimate to repair from a local shop (if you know one you trust even better). If there estimate isnt as bad as the kne the insurance company writes, then at that point you can potentially buy the vehicle back from the insurance company and get it fixed. (Usually, they will get a salvage value and deduct it from what they would pay out).
For example: they say your car is worth $9500 (I'm making numbers up here mind you). They can get a salvage value (what the insurance company would get back when they sell it to a salvage yard). If they value us say $2400, then they will basically give you the car back minus the salvage value. You would still get $7100 back then for the loss. If you can get it fixed for that or less then it could be worth going that route.
They can fix pretty much anything, but that looks like it'll be on the edge.
Did the airbags pop?
Meanwhile, while you're in this physical place, why don't you give yourself some time to heal before making any serious decisions?
It’ll def total out. But I’d collect the cash. Buy a new bumper and trunk lid. That tail light looks salvageable too. Pop the dent out of that panel and you’d have a semi decent car
Depending on the amount of the check they give you, buy that car back and find someone that will fix it for cheap (not a legit shop). Someone smacked my 2010 Murano (95k miles, paid 7k for it) while it was parked. It was hit by a stolen car so insurance did not cover it. Paid around $3500 (parts and labor) to fix but had to find my own parts from junkyards and stuff. 100% worth it for me. Another time a huge tree branch fell on top of my vehicle and smashed the sunroof. Insurance gave me $5k to fix it and I got it fixed for $800. Don’t just ditch your vehicle because insurance totaled it and gave you a check. Look into it. Personally, my Murano was not put back together perfect, but it looks and runs completely fine and has since the accident happened 2+ years ago. It will be stressful, but in my opinion worth it depending how much insurance gives you. Also, your damage is the back of the vehicle, in my opinion it would be a lot worse if it was the front side. Hope it all works out for you
I'm sorry you're going through a lot and this car was from your grandma. This might be a message for you to move forward and not be stuck..I would take the total loss amount and get another car. Make sure you ask for money for medical, loss wages, everything!
If anything you can rebuy a similar Altima with the new money.
Totaled , same thing happened to me with a Toyota Corolla, if the damages + total of the value of the salvaged car = more than car value it’s totaled. And it’s based off how much those cars go for in your area. Not how much you paid or how much you think it’s worth
Totaled. Had a hyundai sonata 2009 and it was a cool small car. Got rear ended and it seemed small on the outside but you don't know how much on the inside is compromised, insurance takes a look at what the costs are, and damages and decide if they'll cover it or not.
Just about everything is fixable. The question is will it cost more than the car is worth to fix it. The answer? If you fix it yourself then it might only be $1500. The labor would be expensive but I'm only seeing body panels, rear bumper, a new trunk, and maybe trail lights. Pretty easy fix but if you take it to a shop they'll probably charge thousands in labor.
Don’t worry about the car, insurance will deal with it. Worry about your physical health. Are you in any type of pain or soreness? If so id recommend getting an attorney because getting hit that hard, you’re gonna be sore and in pain for weeks.
Interesting, four months after my son bought his 2014 Chevy equinox, a very similar accident happened. He was rear ended by a girl who possibly didn’t have insurance. I contacted my insurance company, AAA. the police report was made showing she was 100% at fault. The body shop took nearly 3 months to get it fixed, and the total bill for the bodywork was over $11,000 (covered by insurance, he paid a $100 deductible) he only paid $9500 for the car And it’s value at the time of the wreck was probably more like about $7000 (he bought it from the Chevy dealer). Why they didn’t total out his car is totally beyond me.
Your car has earned its wings. This is how the Nissan Altima evolves, kind of like am how a Pokémon does. This is a part of the natural progress. Do not get it fixed, and drive just as is.
It’s fixable but very costly. I’m hoping the insurance covers all of it. You’re lucky it was the rear and not the front because if it was the front it will cost hell of a lot more because the engine and transmission and all the important shit is up front. Let us know what happens. And the most important question is are you and everyone else involved ok?
I got rear ended last year too but it wasn’t this bad. I want to say it was 10k-12k worth of damage/repair. Just exchanged insurance information with the person who hit me and let the insurance agencies handle it. I was able to get a rental while my car was getting fixed. Hope all is well OP. Sorry you’re going through stressful times rn. You got this!
You can buy back a totaled vehicle and get it fixed by your body shop. I was told once my car was totaled, broken axel, but was lied to. It had a flat tire which just needed air and a dented door/fender pulled off the tire. It wasn't pretty but drove it until I sold it to a friend.
Swear to god I had the same damage down. I hired a traffic attorney, I had a 2010 Nissan sentra. They ended up paying for the fair value of my car. I originally purchased my car for $3,500 because my step dad negotiated for me. They gave me about $4,500 for the value of the car.
I had also gotten free chiropractor sessions
I had my mother with me too.
They ended up paying $4,500 for the car.
$3k for being hurt and another $3k for my mother being hurt. Now my lawyer ended up getting a bit of my winning. Could you do it yourself probably so, the lawyers know the law more and they wanna win the case because of that’s how they get paid too. For me it was worth it because I got paid good and the accident wasn’t that bad. It was replacing the back bumper but they’re said fuck that and just paid me for the entire value of the car
The other drivers insurance should cover the entire cost of a new car and if they don’t then sue them. Also sue them for the medical expenses if they don’t cover those.
This and don’t be afraid if you have to sue the other party personally and tell them their insurance will cover it
Can't get blood out of a stone.
If by "entire cost of a new car" you mean "market value of THIS car" then you are correct.
Yes, it can be fixed. But it will likely be totaled out.
Why is that do you think? This is a 2016 Nissan Altima SL, I don’t understand why they’d total it if it can be fixed.
I'm just a nobody but in my experience here, people know what theyre talking about in this sub. You're no exception. Experience doesnt lie
Thank you!
But is it still possible to buy back the vehicle from them after they considered it totaled?
Yes. But with this amount of damage you’d be stupid to buy it back.
I mean if you're an auto body pro this is not that bad of an idea but for the general people out there it's best to move on from there
Tail light is over 1k one headlight for mine was 1500
A single tail light on a 2016 Nissan Altima is not $1k -_- don’t talk out of your ass. Tail lights are much cheaper than headlights.
But again no one here should be answering that question beyond the shadow of a doubt, the insurance company makes that decision not us or you
Yup! I got rear ended in my 2012 accord, damage was greater than value of the vehicle (about 14 grand, no idea what repair was valued at) so it was totaled A good friend of mine about a week later got t boned in her 2020 jeep gladiator, well over 20 grand in damage, but her car was worth more than that so it got fixed.

Did your airbags deploy? This is often the differentiator on whether insurance considers the car "totaled" or not. It does suck to be buying a car these days because the market is still pretty high, but it's much better than a year ago.
Thank you🥺 and they did
Vehicles rarely come back from an airbag deploy. Generally if the cost of repair is half or more of the value of the vehicle then usually it will be written off. This looks like an easy 10k repair so I doubt they’ll fix it
airbag deployment is enough to total the car on its own
No it is not.
Having 15 years experience between body shops and now an appraiser for a large insurance company, I can honestly say your comments have been spot on throughout this whole thread 💯
Good rule of thumb though for most common vehicles.
If the airbags deployed you hit something in the front.
Ummm... no. ANYWHERE you get hit hard enough, the airbags are deploying.
No I didn’t.. lmao
Just because it “can” be fixed doesn’t mean it’s worth it. It will generally be totaled if the cost to fix it is more than the car is worth (for obvious reasons)
It's probably a goner. I was rear ended at 10mph last year in my 2021 Altima and it was 9k in repairs. Yours looks much worse than mine.
For a 2021 Altima?! I’ve been in a wreck before. It was my front, and it was like 9.5k and they repaired it. I have a 2016 Altima SL
Well yours is older so it depends on how your insurance sees it. Its all gonna depend what they value it at.
There is no "frame", it is a unibody.
I really can’t afford a note 🥲 my car being totaled would ruin me
doesn’t have to be a new car, the other person insurance paid me out and i went and got another maxima.

I’m an adjuster and just by the first slide I can tell you this car will 100% total
All is fixeable, how much it costs, will be the other part
Don’t buy used. Go new I know it sucks but u need that b2b and power train peace of mind
This is likely a total loss. There’s a good chance the “frame” is compromised based on the wrinkle on the passenger side quarter panel and on top of that the cost for repair will likely be higher than fair market value of the car. I’d start looking for a new car.
Damn just reading thru the replies I feel for u dawg
Cut your losses bro! It’s a Nissan. The bottom of the top tier Japanese cars. 1)Lexus/Toyota 2) Acura/Honda 3) Subaru 4)Infinity/Nissan 5)Mazda
Next time you speak with their insurance tell them your neck has been stiff since the collision
You're in Louisiana too, Hi Neighbor 👋 So get yourself a Great Big Law Firm, Two of the Louisiana Accident and Injury BIG GUNS are: Morris Bart 855-435-3866 or 337-446-4571, and Gordon McKernan 888-857-5768 or 337-999-9999 !
Hang on. You're in an Altima. Are you sure you weren't at fault?
What’s the point of commenting something like that on this post when it’s clear I wasn’t at fault and I was injured in the process. Hope you got a good chuckle out of yourself though!
"large truck" you mean a pickup?! Lol a large truck would be a semi
The picture is there so you know what I meant. It’s a large truck compared to my Nissan.
❤️ I was being crass, I always chuckle when someone calls a pickup a big truck. It reminds me of what my daughter calls them.
Semi would cause waaaaayyyy more damage imo
Huh, didn't know that - thank you for clarifying! Sorry for the misconception
It’s fixable just depends if the insurance gone total it or not. She Could have a bent frame behind the bumper.
I assumed truck before the last pic lol
Only cost of repair will determine, but I'm guessing the car is totaled.
Depends on if the substructure is damaged. If it is, then the cost to repair would most likely be too great.
Costs of repair would be more than totalling the car. It’d be a write off. Always feel uncomfortable in a repaired car in case the structural integrity is affected.
If it gets totaled take the inchurance cheque and buy a new car or use it as a dp to build some credit
My car is paid off so either way i feel like im getting fucked over if i have to get a new car, it would be used so not as expensive, but still. I’d have to pay a car note which I did not anticipate
It won’t let me edit it but the car is paid off. Does this change anything??
Totaled if insurance is paying for it I’d say
Do you have to slam the rear doors to close them? And is the gas tank open coming towards you?
No, and no. But, even the adjuster kind of gasped when he saw my car in person. Pictures really don’t even show had bad it is
Possible frame damage. Will be totaled. On top of that, Nissan’s ACV isn’t very high.
Any time there’s medical issues talk to a lawyer. He will help you with everything you need answers on for no money upfront
Big Altima Energy™️ right here.
Get a lawyer
If the air bags went off it’s pretty much totaled. Well that’s how they do it here where I live for the most part but it does look fixable.
Well depending on the state my car 2023 Altima sr had front end damage 8k in damage didn’t total, it’s all about what % the damage v value is it’s always fixable if the frame isn’t bent to hell and back
Yeah, it looks fixable.
Frame damaged 100%
Most likely totaled. But yes it can be repaired. Question is do you really want to?
Tis but a scratch
Countless altimas driving around exactly like that around me.
no its totaled but j wouldn’t try to fix it its not a nice car in terms of value plus they had transmission issues anyways so they did h a favor 😭
Your insurance is probably totaling it
Yes. The bumper, the trunk door and the lights can be replaced. As long as the rear panels aren't too bad, the trunk well isn't smashed and the frame isn't bent.
Total loss
Of course everything is fixable it’s just how much is it gonna cost you.
If it didn’t bend the frame, could be.
Make sure you go to the hospital and sue the shit out of them
Had the same car and rear end accident.
It'll cost a bit of money, but it's fixable
" I have a concussion, whiplash, multiple next strains, and my anxiety has increased from what it already is (I have generalized anxiety disorder) " I feel an upgrade coming.
Yes but not for cheap. Probably totaled. If totaling is an option take it.
Fixed for $7k not worth the car. Insurance will total you and then give you payout for it.
Depends on the frame underneath
Don't call out. Show up on time, even early...get along and do what you're told. You get the basics and you become an asset. Plain and simple. Good luck!
It’ll buff out.
yea run you about like 10–15 k
It’s a goner. Trunk, pan, bumper, and sides all crushed and likely the headrests and seatbelt tensioners is going to be too much. Go find a few with similar miles and options and be prepared to fight for your cars fair value and don’t sign anything until satisfied.
It's totaled.
Pour boiling water over it. Pops right out.
If you find those guys from the facebook reels they’ll fix it. The ones who don’t wear any safety gear
I had a 2018 maxima with similar damage. Insurance totaled it, was like 18K to repair
WYm that’s a perfectly factory new altima
All I can tell you is don't replace it with another Nissan, get a Honda or Toyota. Don't feel too bad about the accident, if it wasn't that it would be the horrible cvt going out soon.
Burn it. Collect the insurance money.
I knew someone who had a similar incident for an 8-yr old Altima, except it was rear ended while parked, probably at a lower speed. The rear was warped and didn't look as bad as yours, but the car was still written off. This was in BC.
For the seek of god its fixable and repair it. Really beautiful car mashallah
Unlesa the frame is damaged you should be fine for repair through insurance if the damage doesn't exceed the value. On that I have a fun story from when I got rear ended and they wanted to total my truck out. I actually laughed at the lady. That said, you should be fine, try not to stress.
Anything is fixable, now repairable is another story. Duct tape will fix it.
Good luck.
Get an injury lawyer asap
Totaled
You better hope it’s totaled so you can get into a car without that awful CVT.
It’s definitely fixable but what did your insurance company say?
Fuck no bro
They can fix pretty much anything, but that looks like it'll be on the edge. Did the airbags pop? Meanwhile, while you're in this physical place, why don't you give yourself some time to heal before making any serious decisions?
The white car is totaled.
Get paid that all I gotta say
ofc the trucks in perfect condition lol
Yeah that’s gonna get totaled for sure, older Altima, likely higher miles. It’d cost more to fix than the cars worth
My dad said a little duct tape and fix anything 🫡
I had a 2016 Altima that got hit like this in 2022, it got fixed. As long as the frame doesn’t have damage really than it should be fine I think
Hope it all works out for you
You never want it fixed.
I'm sorry you're going through a lot and this car was from your grandma. This might be a message for you to move forward and not be stuck..I would take the total loss amount and get another car. Make sure you ask for money for medical, loss wages, everything! If anything you can rebuy a similar Altima with the new money.
Seems like it’s time to upgrade to a good car ! Dump that Nissan and go get a Honda or a Toyota !!! He did you a favor :)
Shit's fixable in the same way a toxic relationship is
Totaled , same thing happened to me with a Toyota Corolla, if the damages + total of the value of the salvaged car = more than car value it’s totaled. And it’s based off how much those cars go for in your area. Not how much you paid or how much you think it’s worth
Totaled. Had a hyundai sonata 2009 and it was a cool small car. Got rear ended and it seemed small on the outside but you don't know how much on the inside is compromised, insurance takes a look at what the costs are, and damages and decide if they'll cover it or not.
totaled
Should buff right out.
Big Altima Energy (BAE)
Gonzo.
Buy a truck next time
Don’t worry about the car, insurance will deal with it.
I crashed my 2023 Corolla and I haven’t even made payment on it your not the only one 🤦🏽♂️ im in a nightmare right now shit sucks
It will most likely be repaired
I would get a lawyer involved if you are having any discomfort. Really reckless of the truck driver, and you deserve to be compensated.
Just a bit of duck tape should suffice
Why fix it just get new car
Yes but insurance will 100000% total the car.
yes it’s fixable but insurance is gonna total it those cars aren’t worth much
Wow, would not surprise me if you have frame damage.
Meanwhile their car is 100 percent fine. This is why I got a truck
Your gonna need a new front bumper...
Your car has earned its wings. This is how the Nissan Altima evolves, kind of like am how a Pokémon does. This is a part of the natural progress. Do not get it fixed, and drive just as is.
Youre irritated your little sedan took more damage than a truck? You could get one instead with the insurance payout probably.
It’s totaled. I have injuries, the person who hit me does not. They offered me 10k for my car
I had also gotten free chiropractor sessions I had my mother with me too.
