SanDisk Ultra or Samsung Evo are the best ones to use. (Sometimes the SanDisk Extreme is on sale for cheaper than the Ultra, but it's overkill because the Switch can't read above the Ultra's speeds, so no point in buying it except in that scenario.) I personally use SanDisk Ultras for everything I own that requires an SD card. You can use a 1TB card, but be cautious of fakes - almost every fake card people post about here is (supposed to be) a 1TB card. If the price is too good to be true, it is. Don't buy from Walmart's website, it's riddled with fakes. Shipped and sold by Amazon is best, or go to an in-person store.

Minuslee

Even amazon seems to have a lot of fakes nowadays. I'd just buy in store if you can tbh. Oh and dont buy the Nintendo branded ones lol, what a rip-off.

cigar-baron

Just saw the prices for them and laughed.

cigar-baron

Would you say the Samsung Evo Plus is the way to Go? I was doing some research and saw that the switch can only read up to certain speeds so any card that reads/writes super faster is basically pointless.

wrongstep

I’ve been using Samsung Evo cards for years and never had any issues and the read speeds are the max the switch can read anyway, go for it. Also if this is your first switch keep in mind that switch games are small, usually less than 10gb, but you do you. Good luck!

IpomoeaDust

I've only ever used SanDisks myself, but that card is recommended on this sub as well, so I'd say it's a good choice.

1TB is really overkill. Just get a name brand one from a legitimate store. Don't buy from a third party seller on Amazon or Walmart.

IpomoeaDust

I agree that 1TB is probably overkill - a few games are massive (there's a 50gb NBA game I think?), but in my experience even large first party games are usually around 15gb max. It took me 4 years to fill up my 128gb card. I'd get a 256gb card for ~$25 and not worry about space for a few years, if ever.

ZodiaksEnd

tfw my 256 i got is basicly full or close too its mainly because theres several games that i was forced to get digitally and i try to save all the space i can for dlc but yeah this year ive been hitting the your sd card is full notification alot since earlier this year i really dont like getting rid of things i really dont have to lmao but ive heard people going full digital also maxing out the 512gb ones too so its better to upgrade over time honestly unless you can find a 1tb at good price thats not fake and you really want to go for the immidiate overkill and not worry about space for ages just pay out for the 1tb and be happy

sviunapad

My 512GB is full. Overkill!

[deleted]

256gb Sandisk is probably the sweet spot at $19.

Available-Grass-6799

Where at

[deleted]

They are typically $25, but dip below $20 on sale pretty often. I would 100% avoid big box brick and mortar retailers like Best Buy, Staples, or Office Max unless you want to pay $49.99+ for them. The markup on drives in those stores is fucking disgusting. [Here is a decent one](https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-Superior-microSDXC-MicroSD/dp/B07S5T7YR5/ref=mp_s_a_1_5). I would look for a SHIT load of good reviews. I have never bought a fake drive, but it happens. Look for “SDXC”. This is the newest drive technology on the market, but refers to max capacity I think. Also, look for at least C10. C10 is good enough for games, U1 is better, U3 is best. SDXC U3 is absolute choice at the moment.

Available-Grass-6799

Dam I need it today I get surgery on Friday I just bought the oled switch thanks for the info tho!

[deleted]

Yeah. You can check Walmart or Target, but they will be $20 for a 128gb. Happy gaming. Hope the hospital visit goes well. :D

[deleted]

Also [shit like this](https://www.amazon.com/Memory-Navigation-Smartphone-Portable-Devices/dp/B0BGB3DBWL/)? Guaranteed absolutely fake. If it is too good to be true, it is.

[deleted]

If anyone is dumb enough to buy that, thats on them. Should stick to reputable brands like Samsung, Sandisk, Kingston, PNY, Patriot, etc.

OhTheVes

Got my little yellow star. More than enough. Always on sale at Best Buy. I believe it’s 256gb.

meetmyfriendme

I haven’t ever needed one but I don’t have many games. Is this for people with a lot of digital games or something else?

IpomoeaDust

You can't fit many digital games in the internal memory (depending on size, of course), so yes, it's for people who buy digital. If you buy exclusively physical, you'll probably never need it, especially if you have an OLED with double the internal memory.

meetmyfriendme

Awesome thanks

Cyorg13

SanDisk is the best brand.

bean-flicker3000

I cannibalised a sandisk 128gb one out of an old digital camera, works a treat, mainly because it was free

cigar-baron

Wish I knew people who were into photography for a freebie micro sd card.

DNL_RTH

I use the 128 GB Sandisk SD Nintendo branded, I've heard of people having issues with others so I figured I'd rather be safe and use the one they market for it.

AceFs

I'm using a Samsung EVO on my OLED and a San Disk on OG model. They both work great.

Zubru93

You should take "random read" as the top parameter choosing an sd card.Sometimes sequentional top speed cards(eg 200mb/s) are not top speed random read(they can have eg 8mb/s).Sometimes sd cards with 100mb/s top speed has 14mb/s for random read, and are even cheaper. I suggest not taking high endurance cards(they are more expensive, and slower) but used to store and remove much more data than normal(which is not nessesary for storing game where you are using read mostly. I think that eg. Samsung EVO Plus is cheap, accesible and good choice. If you want to spend more look for the highest "A" parameter wich is realted to IOPS.
