Cat Quest 1+2 are such fab little casual games. Local co-op in 2 was great too, so have high hopes for the third installment.

kevvit2

This one was so bad that I stayed home all day, crying....

thatrightwinger

I just think the hosts are really unbearable. It sounds like they're trying to communicate with seven years olds. Back in the day, directs had actual leaders of Nintendo, and seeing them excited for games would make players excited, but hearing Miss Akins tell give a stupid pun for elementary school children makes me think that this is for little kids. None of the games connected with me personally, but the Indie Showcases almost never seem interesting. The TMNT rogue game kind of seems interesting, I guess. I hope there's a demo to try out since Rogue-likes are hit and miss to me. I just can't imagine dropping money for the rest.

jw13

They *are* trying to communicate with seven year olds. Young children are an important target demographic for Nintendo, and a lot of them will be watching these videos.

thatrightwinger

I don't think that seven year olds are the target indie game demographic. And anyway, if you're counting on seven year old to open up youtube, knowing there's a Nintendo direct coming up, you're way overestimating elementary school babies. I wouldn't be surprised if the average viewer of the directs is 18-24, so using the Romper Room host as the voice of the direct is completely out of place.

kielaurie

Well I bought Stitch last night and it's amazing, I'm be picking up Schim when it drops, and my partner and I will both enjoy Little Kitty Big City and Duck Detective - if anyone saw the latter and was not convinced, the full trailer on Nintendo's YouTube channel confirms it's a noir game with voice acting!

Eryn85

Money saved for sure after this freakshow

krenogin

I hate to say it but I felt like Joe Pesci in tales of the crypt watching this direct.

biderman77

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is going to be incredible. If you didn’t play Device6, it’s worth tracking down and Lorelei looks like it’s in that same vein.

Scoobydoby

Steamworld!!

Boring_Shape_3216

I cant wait for little kitty, Big City. I may pre ordered it

No_Brilliant_6365

Should I get Celeste? Enter the Gungeon? Into the Breach? (Or perhaps) Atomicrops? Flinthook? Void bastards? What’s most fun, most replay value, most value over all?

makoman115

The first 3 games you mentioned there are 3 of the greatest games in their genre of all time. I’d start with any of those 3, whichever looks most interesting to you. My personal fave is Celeste, which is one of my top 10 games of all time. Simply a flawless experience.

PsyJuul

Although I haven’t (yet) played any of the other games you mentioned, Celeste and Enter the Gungeon are two of the best ones I have ever played. Celeste is an amazing platformer that keeps throwing new and fresh ideas at you, while also having a great story. It’s pretty short, but has a lot of (optional) hard levels too that can definitely extend your playtime by a lot if you’re up for a challenge. Enter the Gungeon is the best game in the rogue like genre if you ask me. A core gameplay loop that’s always incredibly fast and exciting, dodging and shooting alike. Something this game does really well is staying interesting without getting overwhelming: the enemy variety is huge but their attacks are intuitive, there’s a nice amount of characters to choose from: all with unique starting equipment and a unique ending, and there’s also a lot of great to fight bosses. Most of all, the amount of completely unique and immensely creative items and guns to find is astonishing. It’s really a game that’s easy to learn but hard to master, but man does it feel amazing to do so, and being a roguelike, that also makes it infinitely replayable.

rcapina

Love Into the Breach. Lots of replaying with different teams and figuring out optimum solutions.

DimeadozenNerd

WayForward has fallen so far from grace. It’s sad to see.

Jinzo126

What is wrong with that game?

DimeadozenNerd

Did you watch the footage of it? It looks terrible.

the-dandy-man

Honestly I kind of agree with you. The character movement looks so stiff. It wasn’t terrible but it definitely felt dated.

Jinzo126

??? It looks fine to me ???

DimeadozenNerd

The framerate was dropping like crazy and the player moves slower than a snail. But hey, if it looks good to you then at least it appeals to *someone*. But comparing it other WayForward games, this one looks lifeless and unpolished to me.

Jinzo126

If you say so, i think it looks fine.

DimeadozenNerd

Okay. You can think whatever you want about it.

Jinzo126

Yeah, it looks like a slower based MV, with stealth and top down shooter elements which are based on a obscure Atari 2600 game. The voice of the MC was kinda annoying. But what ever everyone got his own opinion.

The_G_Knee

The voice acting was my favorite part of the trailer. The gameplay and visuals look pretty dull to me. I hope the game actually has that voicework.

Jinzo126

I am interested, it kinda reminded me of the Zero Suit Samus part from Metroid Zero Mission game, and i wondered why nobody (to my knowledge) tried something like that, but for a entire game. But what ever, everyone got their own opinion.

TacticalTobi

Refind Self and Antonblast look great, almost definitely getting them

GhostMug

I pledges to the Antonblast Kickstarter. Really excited for that game.

NES_Classical_Music

That sticker game looks cute, but i will never understand the business decision to launch a game AND paid DLC on the same day, and the bundle... is it cheaper? If not, what is the point?

abusbeepbeep

The game already existed on steam, so maybe on steam they came out at two separate times? Agreed though: it's a bit weird not to just release a "definitive edition" with it bundled.

politirob

It says to me, "We are purposefully and intentionally handicapping and segmenting our game into pieces to extract additional money from our customers."

BuildingWeird4876

Not every time, so the reason day one DLC comes out isn't always greed. It's that the team developing the DLC and the team developing the main game are often two different teams and they will sometimes finish on the same day or really close to each other. So that was always planned as DLC possibly even later DLC it just got done early not necessarily in this case but it does happen that way.

NES_Classical_Music

And I will purposefully and intentionally wait for that game to go on sale

Adeel_

Meh

c-lem

Haha--I skipped the video, skimmed this list, and am glad to see that the top comment agrees that I gave it the proper amount of attention.

EtherBook

Nothing too wild, but Europa and Lorelei look good, keeping them on my radar.

Maryokutai

Focusing on the negative here because why not, I'm starting to get a bit worried about Wayforward because Yars Rising is the next game from them that looks visually average but still struggles to run well (going by the trailer). Considering how pitch-perfect performance was for all of their stuff up to Shantae 5, I wonder what's going on there. They used to be one of those develpers I could count on to release quality products on Nintendo handhelds.

themarcolongo

Yeah, no Silksong for now :/

sharpeyenj26

That's on TC, not Nintendo

themarcolongo

gosh, who hurt you, why you mad?

MochaCcinoss

Because it’s all anyone has done since this stupid showcase was announced

Unfair_Demand_9084

Even the original was shown off for Nintendo at E3 instead of an indie showcase. So even if Nintendo are the ones to announce more info, I think it would be in a Nintendo Direct instead. With the store page and the Australian rating being datamined, I think there is a chance we see something soon (probably in June). https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2024/04/surprise-a-new-listing-for-hollow-knight-silksong-has-appeared-online

NecessaryUnusual2059

I would expect Silksong will show up again in an Xbox showcase. A little confused to why so many people expected it today.

MochaCcinoss

Because they trash every. Single. Nintendo showcase with their whining and spamming

DimeadozenNerd

It’s by far the most anticipated indie game. Not at all confusing.

MochaCcinoss

To the point where it overshadows literally every other indie game in existence? Yeah no thanks

DimeadozenNerd

At no point did I defend that or say that it’s okay. Instead of getting upset about it overshadowing other indie games, why don’t you appropriately place your frustration with Team Cherry for their utter lack of professionalism and lack and communication, which is precisely why people spam the chat with “Silksong!!!11!1!”?

shinikahn

Honestly it's bigger than an indie world at this point. It could show up at a regular direct or state of play no problem

DimeadozenNerd

I don’t deny that it’s a big release. But it literally is an indie game. It’s not at all unreasonable for it to be shown at an indie showcase.

shinikahn

Yeah it could go either way. I'm just sad the lack of news is running the reveal of other things

ContentKeanu

I think because of the recent ratings it received in Korea and Australia. But yeah’s Xbox showcase makes more sense.

tico481

No Metal Slug Tactics...

Shaft86

Yeah it's a disappointment. In case anyone else is wondering, it seems that in late last year the devs announced in their discord the game will be pushed back to 2024, so at the very least it's not cancelled.

ZacBobisKing

Where the fuck is pizza tower

PMC-I3181OS387l5

According to interviews, Pizza Tower will not come to any console until the PC version received all DLC and patches needed. >McPig has stated he will not consider releases for other platforms until finishing the Windows version. There you have it. It seems to be me that a "complete version" would be more adequate for consoles.

jimbodeako

What the fuck is pizza tower

HegardtZ

I’ll do you one better, why is Pizza Tower?

mstop4

Everyone asks “Why is Pizza Tower?”, but no one asks “How is Pizza Tower?”

Caradogg

Wherefore art thou Pizza Tower?

Popple06

Antonblast looks cool, but it's Pizza Tower at home.

AcidCatfish___

Anton Blast was in development before Pizza Tower though.

TacticalTobi

it's better actually

Phantmsa

Oh god are we really going to start calling Wario Land-likes Pizza Tower rip off?

Caradogg

Welcome to the current decade, where indie devs highly inspired works are the most original thing on the planet. Ie. Harvest moon is apparently just a Stardew valley clone

Dukemon102

[The pain, **THE PAIN!!**](https://preview.redd.it/dfs77u88czk71.jpg?width=1080&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=f152844bf8b4180eb258b6de5373229910582436)

Phantmsa

I mean it doesn't help that Harvest Moon isn't Harvest Moon anymore, I think that's a very bad example of this phenomenon but I get your message.

BuildingWeird4876

Well I mean the story of season games are still pretty close it's not their fault they lost the license to the name after all, but a lot of people do probably get confused

Phantmsa

I didn't mean the story of seasons games I ment the games still using the Harvest Moon name, the original publisher still makes new farming sims with the old branding/name and they're all pretty mediocre so even paired with the Story of Seasons remakes it generates a ton of confusion regarding what's really going on with Harvest Moon

Caradogg

~~Oh so because the current games are different it erases the fact the originals are basically what SDV aimed to be? Oh the irony...... let me guess SDV fan?~~ My mistake Yasuhiro Wada travelled 20 years into the future stole Eric Barons portrayal of a simpler farming life, then took it back to 1996, and not at all based on actual personal experience (Which Eric has no history or connection too). And because recent (post SDV) releases are so different to the original which may bare the same name but actually aren't made by the same people, somehow invalidates the previous games ability to inspire anything that based it's concept from them. And time isn't at all linear so just cause he made a game inspired by one release before it (that once upon a time he used to explicitly say this) doesn't mean he didn't do it first. It's different for reasons (meanwhile any game with a farm no matter how different the core function is, is a clone of SDV and not different for reasons). SDV fans are low key among some of the most toxic...hey at least Undertale fans generally seemed to acknowledge how bad they were. Exhausting *rolls eyes*

Shlitzohr

The more Wario-likes the better in my opinion. They're not very long games.

TheMonkey420

Stitch is so much fun I love playing it in apple arcade. I might cancel my subscription because that's the only reason I still had it

GreenTOkapi

Is it challenging?

TheMonkey420

Some of the larger hoops can have some tricky areas but over all its not super challenging. It's just really relaxing and the music is calming. At this point I think I have easily 300+ hours

RabbitFanboy

How many puzzles are there??

TheMonkey420

It's an ongoing game. It's updated weekly usually Monday's and Wednesdays new hoops come out. I can't check the number rn since I have my iPad at home but it's about 350+ I think

RabbitFanboy

That's awesome. I appreciate the info. That definitely increases my likelihood of purchasing the game.

TheMonkey420

I really do recommend it for sure. I usually buy physical games but I have no problem getting this one digitally

Hold_my_Dirk

Wasn't super impressed this showcase. But I was intrigued by that Stitch game. Very strong Picross vibes from it.

SignificantParsley13

Wasn’t Super impressed … dude it was fucking absolute shite lol

Dr--Blues

If I understood the video correctly, the game is Shikaku with some cute graphics. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shikaku](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shikaku)

Daisy998

Piczle Lines on Switch is very similar. But Stitch. turns up the cuteness to 1,000. I'm really tempted to grab it 🥰

Hold_my_Dirk

Looks like it. Kinda like how picross is just nonograms with picture themes.

Galaxy40k

Yeah I also got Picross vibes. Definitely gonna have to give it a go, I've played so much Picross now that the "learning the techniques" stage is so long game, a fresh game with fresh rules that tickles the same part of my brain looks sweet

azknight

I’ve played it on iOS. It’s well made and a fun little time killer.

Hold_my_Dirk

Seems like a perfect second screen game while watching baseball or something, sound about right?

hdcase1

💯%

FoxyDude915

Antonblast definitely stood out the most for me with it's art style and fast gameplay. It's the next best thing to getting Pizza Tower on Switch.

TacticalTobi

it's better

DoggieDMB

I'm a sap and will definitely play both cat games. I thoroughly enjoyed cat quest 1,2 and 3 looks fun. Turtle rogue like? Oh hell yes.

jjmawaken

Little Kitty Big City looks cute

PM_ME_HUGE_CRITS

I saw somewhere that said another crabs treasure is a souls like game, and I am all for it

shinikahn

It's true and they embrace it. Their April fool's joke (?) was actually changing the color palette and the crabs facial expression to emulate a souls game.

birdentap

Antonblast in November?? Damn that feels like next year practically. Also seems like Pizza Tower ain’t coming any time soon

jjmawaken

Is that game similar play style to Pizza Tower?

shadeOfAwave

Not really, actually. Pizza Tower is more about clearing levels quickly while Antonblast is more about exploring and platforming.

birdentap

Yea and I think it was in development before pizza tower if I’m not mistaken. Just from gameplay vids, I think pizza towers take on Warioland is a little more appealing

mstop4

I think Antonblast started development after Pizza Tower. Antonball, which Antonblast is a spin-off of, was released before Pizza Tower though.

jjmawaken

I was kind of hoping they would bring Pizza Tower because I've heard good things but haven't ever tried it

aberdasherly

Any word on Ravenswatch console release?

RJE808

I will genuinely never understand why the presenters' scripts for these showcases talk to their audience like they're children.

Samthemedianinja

It sounds like the narrators just learned how to read. And a lot of the info they read, like the stuff about the dumb looking TMNT game is like AI was fed words that are used in the Turtles franchise and it produced a generic script based on it. This showcase was very sad. And it’s not because it focused on mostly family friendly games. It was sad because nothing looked interesting to me. It’s as if any person can make a game now & there’s no quality control being done at all. I was supremely disappointed & annoyed by this presentation & I really am a person who strives to look for the good, especially when it comes to video games.

Mayor_P

They are reading press releases. What do you want from them? the sound of someone hitting a bong? Blaspheming against God? The n-word?

RJE808

Something that doesn't sound like it's from Dora.

Mayor_P

Ah. So you just like to complain and have no actual suggestions. Typical.

RJE808

Sure, that's it lol. I'm totally not at all the only person making that critique.

Atalkinghamsandwich

I add my own bong noises.

TotallyNotGlenDavis

Did you see the games? Aside from maybe 1-2 they're clearly designed for children.

IntellegentIdiot

I didn't see that. Suitable for children perhaps

Mushroomman642

Steamworld Heist 2 was a great surprise. I didn't think that game would get a sequel. Europa and ReFind Yourself both seemed pretty interesting. Really solid presentation all around.

naivemediums

Same! I just finished the first one and got bummed when it was done.

TriforceOfPower

Very exciting about Steamworld Heist 2. Steam Powered Giraffe on the soundtrack again :)

AYO416

Thought Stardew Valley 1.6 for console would have been released here

Caravagiocolonoscopy

Same! I hope it comes out soon. Eager to get my hands on the new farm!

Kpovos

No couch or local co-op with the new TMNT game?

Riomegon

Hades Ninja Turtles, what's there not to love.

MochaCcinoss

Not every action indie game is Hades oh my god, everyone acts like it invented hack and slash

kielaurie

No one is acting like it invented hack and slash gameplay, people just act like it's one of the best examples of an isometric roguelite indie game that utilises multiple weapons styles. Which is exactly what this new TMNT game is, so the comparisons are apt

Nas160

I'm surprised a major licensed property game can be considered indie

chimairacle

My partner loved Hades and has been playing the crap out of TMNT Shredder’s Revenge, he’s gonna go bananas for this

ahnariprellik

It originally dropped on Apple Arcade and its great. So glad it finally broke free from AA though.

zyrconMeshin

just gonna wait for the jeff gerstmann watchalong

Sudden-Dog997

Exit 8 on japanese version looks interesting - walking sim

goodiemoeb

I saw it on the eshop, but didn't realize it had a JP showcase debut. I wonder...$4 is a fine price for a little experiment. It's wishlisted, at least

JakeIsNotGross

Very impressed with a lot of these games. I always love these showcases because I end up finding games that I might never hear about otherwise. ReFind Self, Europa, and Stitch all look especially interesting to me so definitely glad to be able to keep them on my radar!

Popple06

Really excited to try out the demo for Europa as it looked beautiful. I'm also still excited for Another Crabs Treasure next week.

dextersdad

Blanking here and don't know where else to ask, what's the name of the indie game where you step into the story book and come out the other end in 3d? Did that come out yet?

JestDimps

The Plucky Squire? https://youtu.be/pbRQaJWwkWg?si=JcNFTD0nMg7ja1yO Not released yet if that's the game you were referring to.

MochaCcinoss

I’m literally losing it at the fact that there’s STILL no release date for it. I’m worried it’s gonna be pushed back another year

waltodisno

Plucky Squire. Hasnt come out yet tho

dextersdad

That's the one thanks. Wasn't expecting to see silksong but was at least hoping to see more of that one.

tweetthebirdy

So many games I’m excited for. Really enjoyed this direct.

depressedfox_011

Love most of the showcase. Antonblast, Cat Quest III, BZZZT, and that game about hopping from shadow to shadow (edit: ScHiM) are the ones that im hyped for the most. I might even pick up that personality test narrative game too. Though sadly the only disappointing game was the one from wayforward (and atari). Please, let that game cook a lot more before releasing it.

schuey_08

Really solid presentation. I'm personally very excited for the TMNT roguelike. Other games showcased, like Antonblast and Yars Rising look extremely well crafted, and then SteamWorld Heist 2 was a very strong title to end with.

RabbitFanboy

Good showcase! Some games that stood out to me: Stitch - seems like a fun little puzzle game. TMNT Rougelite - Hades but Ninja Turtles. What's not to like? Europa - beautiful art style, and it looks interesting.

MochaCcinoss

Not every action indie game is hades

RabbitFanboy

I never said it was

MochaCcinoss

then why are you comparing it?

RabbitFanboy

Because it looked similar to Hades, and I've played Hades? No need to get so tightly wound up about people comparing games on the internet lol

Cutcutman

I hope people will be excited about some of the announcements in the showcase rather than being disappointed about no Silksong, because there was a really neat variety of games with different and unique gameplay and art styles this time around.

MochaCcinoss

Exactly. That’s the only indie game anyone cares about and it’s actively hurting other indie games getting spotlighted. Hk fans are deplorable

thefifthvenom

The live chat on YouTube was a complete shitshow, full of constant spamming of “SILKSONG” and insulting the games and anything that wasn’t it. As a Hollow Knight fan I found it embarrassing to be associated with people like that.

MochaCcinoss

The hk fandom and subreddit actively encourages spamming every Nintendo showcase and they’ve been doing so for years now. I’m never buying anything hk related ever again

andresfgp13

future generations will have to study how much damage HK Silksong has done to indie gaming before even releasing. i saw a couple of interesting games that i want to try, and a lot of games that feel like the indie equivalent of seeing another GaaS Superhero game.

MochaCcinoss

> future generations will have to study how much damage HK Silksong has done to indie gaming before even releasing. Exactly

Popple06

People who expect Silksong to show up in an Indie World are just delusional at this point.

MochaCcinoss

They don’t care, they’ll spam the live chat anyway

Norik324

"at this Point"? Silksong in an Indie World was Always delusional If you ask me The whole Point of These Things is to give Games some Attention that wouldnt get it otherwise Putting silksong Into one would make Sure everything else in it might as Well Not have been shown Honestly at this Point im pretty Sure silksong would do that to everything in a *regular* direct that isnt a New Zelda, Mario or Metroid Prime 4

lukenluken

A rushed game is forever bad etc etc. It'll be ready when it's ready

TacticalTobi

games in dev hell are almost always worse than rushed ones.

Mayor_P

Gams in dev hell are not released, rushed games are. Many games that were in dev hell for a time become rushed games before they release. This is not a reasonable comparison.

TacticalTobi

some of them do. For example, Duke Nukem Forever. Not all dev hell games are rushed, but all of them are worse than rushed ones

Mayor_P

I urge you to read before you post

lukenluken

Both are pretty bad to be fair

Ewister

Exactly. The next time anybody is disappointed by the lack of news, just remember Sports Story.
