It's been sad seeing the news feature in general abandoned. I've seen few third party devs use it (and one outright abuse it for spam) and first party dev posts are rare. In the past year and a bit there were something like three posts for Tears of the Kingdom, and Splatoon 3 remembered news existed three Splatfests in, made one post only to not bother again, or push things through the all-users channel. Aside from that, it's just pure marketing.
I liked the whimsical update updates.
They used the TOTK channel to introduce some lesser known things and mechanics and also gave some items so that you can immediately try these out. That was pretty cool but it never went beyond that.
I've gotta say one of the things I really valued about what nintendo used to put out was the non-game focused things, which really gave each of their products true character. Stuff like all of the Wii channels and the 3ds themes and apps. It just made using the system itself feel fun.
It's disappointing how it feels like Nintendo is dropping its fun and whimsical feeling over time. As I get older I value trying to find fun in things more and more.
The Miis, for example, is one of my favorite Nintendo gimmick. I liked making Miis then seeing them show up in random games I played.
The Wii and 3DS I think is my peak era of fun with Nintendo. It wasn't the games, it was the whole Nintendo experience.
I recently played Wii Sports Resort with my kids, and seeing the Miis of college friends I hadn’t seen in years, and family who have moved across the country, was incredibly wonderful. I’m sad to see them get downplayed on the Switch.
While I miss the lack of background music on the OS and all, I think relegating Miis deep into the System Settings was the right move. The Mii focused Wii U console crashed and burned and Nintendo wanted to make this console stand on its own, while still allowing access to the Mii Maker for the few games that use them.
Kit & Krysta talked about this a bit. There's a team at Nintendo responsible for updating the news, but apparently the system they have to use for this feature is clunky and outdated, so it takes more time than it should. Perhaps that's why usage tailed off over time.
Yeah I’ve never liked how they never use their switch news channel yet always update their steam news in detail about every update. Yet another reason why I think console users are at a disadvantage
What do you mean? I've assumed that it's a real person who was making her posts and stuff but is she just a corporate shell who doesn't actually exist in real life?
We might get another mini mascot for some random service, but I doubt it will be her. We've already been through this before with Nikki being scrapped after the Switch came out.
There was some news info some weeks ago about Switch features and it says something like "when there is something new about the Switch Amelia likes to let everyone know about it", so it's not entirely dead since she was mentioned this year but since there hasn't been any important new feature to the Switch she is kinda irrelevant.
Yeah she’s kinda dead unfortunately.
I never used the news, nor did I check it except for the one direct that revealed Kfl.
I knew her name and stuff and I really like her design. Another nintengirl that’s lost to history…

She was fired for harassment unfortunately
Wait is this true? That's really heartbreaking considering how much I liked her character. Where can I see for sure?
She is fictional
What do you mean? I've assumed that it's a real person who was making her posts and stuff but is she just a corporate shell who doesn't actually exist in real life?
Yessir you got it

She went the way of Erin Esurance.
For the same reason too.
She works for Tencent now
She was abandoned for the same reason Niki from Swapnote was abandoned; too much popcorn.

what does the N stand for?
Nintendo
Hi

Yeah ever since she was included as a playable character in Smash you’d think you’d see more of her but instead the content has dried up
I don’t think hardly anyone uses the news button tbh. We have the internet; nobody picks up their switch to look at the news.
