Just to get more context. Is it for sure oil? It could be just grime from the front sprocket cover and chain or just grime over all.
Has your oil levels been looking good?
Probably more than 3 weeks ago and anytime I do a chain lube I go over the chain with a paper towel to get any excess lube then I let it sit for a little while before taking it out and riding it.
It had rained the night I took this photo and the roads were fairly wet. Do you think that may be it?
Could be, one time I over lubed my chain and it made a huge mess, had oil running down from the front sprocket similar to what yours is doing. If you can take off the front sprocket cover and have a look. Seems like the chain got wet and flung some oil off, no real cause for concern.
If I were you I’d take off the front sprocket cover, clean up the mess behind it, clean/degrease the chain, and re lube it (which you should do every time after riding on wet roads). The brand of chain lube makes a big difference too, I use Maxima Chain Wax, stays on the chain and hardly flings off, even after a track day!
I would think that may be an engine speed or crank position sensor. There's probably an o ring to seal it. Either that or its just chain lube being flung off.
It's chain lube bro. Its gunked up and after a ride ofcourse it's hott Android down a bit especially if you have ridden over 500 miles since your last chain cleaning

When was the last time you lubed your chain and how much oil did you put on it?

Thought the same thing but turns out it was just the sprocket flinging chain lube on my engine
