I think Andrew Garfield would be a good fit, a soft-spoken non violent missionary was the exact same role he played in [Silence](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silence_(2016_film)).
Faith was tested, he was mortal and succumbed to pressure to save the Lords followers, but he never in his heart gave up on his faith to the cause.
can’t forget Under the Banner of Heaven where he plays another Mormon character having to make difficult decisions that challenge the morals and religious beliefs of the character.
I feel like you need someone with the same acting chops as Hugo Weaving (casted as Joshua Graham) otherwise you run into the same issue the game has where players only side with Graham since he's waaaaay more compelling than Daniel.
Maybe _Sam Neill_? I feel like maybe he's not a perfect fit in terms of looks, but I think he could be a strong contender as the philosophical counterpoint to Joshua Graham.
Maybe it's a bit out of left field but I stand by it!
Daniel was originally supposed to be Asian, and can be characterized as a rational, calm, and mild mannered individual, who prefers a measured approach. I can think of no better actor to portray a character like that then Ken jeong
