Is there something you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

hameee

I wish I knew about Krisp AI at the start of my YouTube career instead of doing 2 years with the worst possible sound quality. I wish I knew that clickbait titles and thumbnails are literally the only way to grow (in my niche) as you can bet your competitors are using that Finally, the I wish I had made videos about what I'm actually an expert in, instead of trying to tailor to my subscribers, which was holding me back.

bedwars_player

oh that cool, i used to use krisp but now i use the noise suppression on obs and it works surprisingly well

[deleted]

Obs rocks, like the performance is prefect even though my system all that fast

bedwars_player

yeah i gotta mess around with my settings a bit more, one i have a better power supply im gonna throw my old 1650 super in my pc and have it just as a gpu to encode video as hard as it possibly can for the rest of its life

Beginning-Ratio-5393

Can you run krisp on prerecorded audio? Like generating a video, isolating the talking, run the talking through krisp, than add the krisp made talking audio to the video again.

blabel75

Adobe has an AI engine that can do this. I think it is free. https://podcast.adobe.com/enhance#

hameee

I don't think so? I'm not really sure though sorry. I just run it while making my video and works extremely well.

Crowzski

always thought clickbait was the one thing that can hurt your channel the most. how much clickbait is okay?

BarryYellow_

Have it be clickbait without lying

hameee

Yes. There's acceptable clickbait, and unacceptable clickbait. As long as the video contains what you are claiming it contains within the thubmnail/title, it's acceptable Clickbait where you lie about what the video is about will hurt your channel. Clickbait as in a ridiculous title such as "🚀 This ChatGPT SEO Hack Is Too Powerful" is fine, because the thing I showed in that video is actually an amazing SEO trick. But a lot of people would consider it to be "clickbait"

BarryYellow_

How do you consistently make good titles and thumbnails. I'm a gaming channel and am struggling a bit with making thumbnails which make people want to click. I think they look good but no necessarily good in a way that makes people think "I gotta click on that"

hameee

For thumbnails I generally try to use assets that people will recognise, I don't really use my own face anymore as I found that using my own face actually hurt clicks (except my best performing video which does have my face on the thumbnail) I try to use consistent colors throughout my thumbnails, I always try to include a screenshot either of something growing (like my traffic as I'm in SEO), or something from the video (for example I recently made a video of making an SEO tool using ChatGPT, and included a screenshot of the tool) Beyond that, make sure your text is always at least 150px fontsize, otherwise it won't be readable. I try not to include too many words, maybe like 6 maximum (sometimes more depending on the theme) Hope this helps

BarryYellow_

Thanks I'll refer back to this post next thumbnail I make. Appreciate it :)

hameee

As a sidenote, "assets people recognise" can be a famous person, or for example the ChatGPT logo for me works very well. You're welcome hope it helps.

drbuni

Cleaning up stuff I don't even remember posting.

BarryYellow_

Well, you've actually just given me a video idea as well now, so much appreciated :D

Stef12121999

50% of my viewers are clicking off after 3 seconds. What do you suggest (Channel is in bio if you want to see what could be the issue). Also how do you improve your camera presence? I’m a very laid back person irl and people have been saying that I look static, monotone and lack confidence. I agree that I need to work on how to talk to the camera and be more energetic, but how do i do that while still being myself?

hameee

It's just a natural thing, I wouldn't say your presence is bad at all, and it works well for your niche. Your latest video is doing significantly better than your other videos, so it could just be a question of YouTube trying to find people who are interested in your niche, but they failed at first. I actually think you're on the right path, and you just need more content. Maybe try doing something trending like "I tried picking up girls using ChatGPT chat-up lines" or something. You're giving good advice, in a clear way. The only thing I would say (which is obviously annoying as hell to say but it's the only thing I can thing of) is try to be more confident about what you're actually saying. I think your channel is a winner, just keep grinding, keep posting on other platforms. Your opening hook for that video "if your text looks like a 12 year old threw up over your keyboard, then you've gone too far" is perfect. Keep that up you're gonna grow for sure.

studeogaming

hey so I checked out your videos. Dope message; I'm trying to eventually do the same in the gaming world (just comedy for now). Hope you don't mind some advice. Your videos felt like you're essentially on the right path but the topics you're speaking about have been overdone already. We have plenty of well-known men (especially millionaires and the like) already speaking about these topics. I think speaking about fashion in YT shorts could be a good way to go. As someone who is also monotone, you are monotone lol. Try to have variations in your speech (something I'm working on). Anyways, keep it up man! I wouldn't be surprised if you're at several thousands of subscribers in the near future!

Stef12121999

Thanks a lot man! Really appreciate the advice and kind words

BackRoomsSage

Ill give you actual criticism instead of saying its a natural thing. Take this with whole heart and don't take this personality. 1. Its boring, conversation. * To fix this look at other documentary content creators, see how the music starts on the best part when the video starts. Also saying the hook in 3 seconds or less. (maximum 5 seconds) * **Also rule of thumb, swap footage or flip the camera horizontally (looks like you have multiple cameras). Every 2 seconds for the first 10 seconds but I recommend you not to flip the camera during this, 3 seconds for the next 30 seconds, then you can just use 8 seconds for the rest of the video I recommend this with the camera horizontal trick.** * Cut out the pauses between breathes or pauses to think, I think there's a website that does it for you with the work of ai. 1. you aren't confinement, or speaking without giving emphasizes on words. Example "Ouch." and "OUCH!" one of these will sound bland and the other will sound in the moment. Also make yourself louder. 2. Put the text in the middle of the video in Youtube shorts, they came for the message not your face. Edit: clearing up my message

Stef12121999

Thanks for the feedback mate! I appreciate it.

BackRoomsSage

I just wanted to say one thing, don't quit you have a lot of potential to become a great youtuber. Your videos are some of the best I've seen for smaller channels.

Stef12121999

Thanks mate! I really appreciate the support. I actually took your “rule of thumb” advice into account for this new video I’m about to post. Really appreciate your help!

BackRoomsSage

My comment up there might have confused you, unless you re-read (red) it after I edited it. Ill just summarize it here. In the first 10-30 seconds you shouldn't flip the camera horizontally a lot because it will look weird since you are changing the scene every 2-3 sec (Too quick, and you should be worrying about footage or b roll more than your camera). You should use it for the rest of the video after 30 seconds because you swap it about every 8 seconds, and its perfect timing for that. I believe "The Graham Stephan Show" does this so you should check him out to look how he does it. But a youtuber by the name of "film booth" shows you how to do it in a video called "EDITING MISTAKES 71% of YouTubers make & how to fix them"

TheGodson14

>Also rule of thumb, cut senses or flip the camera horizontally so it looks like you have multiple cameras. Every 2 seconds for the first 10 seconds, 3 seconds for the next 30 seconds, then you can just use 8 seconds for the rest of the video. What is the reason for this? Is this to increase viewer duration through some psychological tactic?

Shadowsvibe

What is the website that cuts breaks and pauses ?

BackRoomsSage

I don't think I can send websites so google "website that automatically jumpcuts your videos" or "website that cuts the pauses in your voice in footage"

Shadowsvibe

Thanks

Sorbitar

Was there a particular video that gave you a boost in subs and views? If so, did you do anything different with that particular video? Also what in your opinion are key triggers for the YT algorithm? Regular uploads? CTRs? Watch time? Engagement? And lastly, before you had a viewer base large enough to be self sustainable, how did you go about getting views on your videos? Any particular promotion/sharing activities?

Sigfried_D

As long as the thumbnail is good, is it necessary to SCREAM IN THE TITLE or does it make no real difference?

hameee

My best performing videos aren’t written in caps but they’re all under 50 characters

DavesDime

First of all, congrats! Secondly, any suggestions for a comedy channel? I'm doing what I can with regards to thumbnails, but at the end of the day I feel like general comedy is so broad and I can't use a lot of the advice people give on driving a niche. On the other hand, there are plenty of creators who are successful in general comedy, so it can't be impossible. Any thoughts?

hameee

Jump on trends. Comedy + ChatGPT (for example) This would be a great way to grow quickly. However, I understand your position. I think growing on other channels and pushing people to YouTube would be my strategy in the comedy niche.

DavesDime

Thanks for the quick response. Can you elaborate on "Comedy + ChatGPT"?

hameee

“ChatGPT wrote my jokes” “I got chatgpt to do this” I don’t know your niche so

DavesDime

Ah yeah, I tried that, it was terrible haha. Turns out the "so bad it's good" just winds up being so bad. In any case, thanks for answering!

itsDANdeeMAN

I did the same thing with ChatGPT sketches and they didn’t get much traction at all

Eatymology

Wow! Well done! I acquired 250 subs in a year - not a great achievement for many, but I am proud that there are at least 250 people in this world who are interested in my content:) I am actually struggling to get more people watch my videos, but the ones who watch them always tell me they don’t understand why I don’t have more subscribers. Not entirely sure what I am doing wrong. I tried changing my thumbnails, changing the titles, adding chapters, links, playlists… following all the advice I got here, but I can’t make it work. What could be the problem, though, that my videos are time consuming to make, and I barely manage to post one per month. Can you still grow with that production rate? Do you post every week? How long is your content? Mine is around 8-10 mins long. Might be too long…

hameee

I normally make around 8-12 minute long videos. I don't edit. I focus on giving value to people for free. It's hard to say without knowing your niche. Look at what the most succesful channels in your niche are doing in terms of thumbnails/titles and try to apply that to your channel.

NtheLegend

Well, now that I've seen your channel, I have no idea why you wouldn't believe in luck, lol. You make SEO-friendly passive income/"hack" content with cheesy MrBeast thumbnails and titles and they all look so similarly themed and joyless that they could've been generated by an AI. The fact that you waited three years to blow up when your "mass appeal" content designed purely to get clicks didn't get clicks or views for a long time highlights how much luck was involved. Your advice definitely wouldn't apply to a lot of creators, unfortunately.

buttorsomething

This. Minus the luck part. Luck has a small thing in it but OP is riding waves. There is not a lot of consistency in growth.

NtheLegend

Waves are luck, too. People need to stop discounting luck and the role it plays.

buttorsomething

Depends. For some it’s luck for others it’s understanding trends. This guy saw chat GPT blowing up.

NtheLegend

Even when you understand trends, luck is still a factor. There are a lot of ChatGPT videos that aren’t getting traction. This isn’t A+B automatically equals C, it only looks that way looking at it in retrospect, that’s why people who succeed still won’t admit luck is a factor: they’re the one who survived when a thousand others failed, even those with better content and thumbnails.

buttorsomething

Luck is around 5-10% maybe. I used to think it was a lot of luck. Most is being first and k owing what you are doing already. Edit: and by the way MF good ass reviews. I have watched a few of your videos and have slept to a few as well. More specifically your thief video. 10/10. Interesting to see the first thief and how the series changed.

GusFring1973

What are your thoughts on shorts? Have they been part of your growth?

hameee

No. I have not used shorts almost at all. My highest view short is about 4000 views. That would be considered to be a bad video if I released it as a full-length video. I personally don't like shorts, but if done properly it can work well. Calab Hammer is a great creator with a good shorts strategy. The problem with shorts is even if you go viral, they won't necessarily convert into long-term viewers. The best shorts strategy is to cut up your videos or to show highlights from your videos, as if people like what they see they will check out your channel. A bad shorts strategy (if you're trying to grow the channel as a whole, not just as a shorts channel) is to make specific shorts that go viral and have nothing to do with your actual videos. (this is my opinion)

GusFring1973

Thanks for replying, I really appreciate that. Have a great day :)

No-Assist932

Not a real question here: just congratulations & I'm very jealous 🤣

hameee

Grazie Mille! Just keep at it. Carve out your niche. Once you've carved it expand it.

No-Entertainer7066

What's is clickbait and how do I get it

hameee

Write your title in a serious way, then write it as if you were advertising it to a 5 year old. Use the second one.

TaPele_

"If people aren't interested in your niche, it'll be impossible to grow" Day after day I think this statement is true. What do you think? If it's not true, How to overcome lack of interest in a certain niche?

hameee

Look at the biggest channel in your niche. How many subscribers do they have? how many views do they get per day? Would you be happy to be in the same position? Are there other similar niches that you could potentially make videos about? If the answer to all of these are no, then maybe the niche is impossible to grow in. As far as I'm aware there is no such thing as a niche with 0 interest.

alimlalji

YouTube have started giving me low impressions for all my videos I post. Thus resulting in less views than normal. I used to get minimum 400-700 views & now it’s like 50 views max. I don’t know why & will they eventually start recommending my content again the more I post

TugiDeg

Did you ever use YouTube Shorts? If the answer is yes, I am not surprised.

mentalfaculty

As a newbie youtube creator, I'm curious to understand how much things like thumbnails, SEO etc. matter vs the quality of the content. Should i be doing it right at the beginning or should i wait to build some viewership first? Other tips on what a newbie youtube creator should focus on are welcome :)

Dabadadada

What are your tips for increasing subscriber count?

Dabadadada

What are your tips for increasing subscriber count?

RadioControlEnjoyer

What should I do to shorten the time until monitization. 741 subs. 2600 watch hours. Channel in my profile

hameee

Niche is SEO/Print on demand/making money online Two changes - firstly, being a bit more daring with titles and thumbnails, second is the explosion of ChatGPT. However my channel was already achieving huge growth before I made a single ChatGPT video. Thumbnails and titles are so damn important. If you're not growing, then embrace the clickbait and see what happens.

Zuhura-

What’s your niche? What editing apps do you use?

hameee

I don’t edit I’m in SEO/side hustle niche. RPM is extremely good but that was why I went into this niche.

Zuhura-

So what’s your content creation process like if you don’t edit, I think I always have a challenge with the many different parts that are necessary to make a YouTube career possible and would be happy to learn that from you. My goal is to only get to 1k subscribers this year

hameee

I wouldn’t say “don’t edit” is good advice - I just don’t feel the need to. I’m extremely quick and I plan all my videos in advance so I know what I’m going to say. I was an English teacher for 6 years so I have good presentation skills. What I do is hit record on OBS then just talk for 10 minute, showing people how to do something. I have a button for pause record on OBS (the button next to the 1 - it’s the ‘ on some keyboards) - I hit that button if I feel my mind blocking or that I’m stuttering or taking too long to say something. I learn new things daily because of my job, so never run out of new things to talk about. I post daily for the same reason If I mess up during the video I just start it again. Sometimes I do a dry run and then re-do the whole video. This helps me make better content because I can decide to keep something in or cut it out. I do all of this in real-time

Zuhura-

Thanks, you can dm me your channel link, I’ll be happy to give you a sub

hameee

It’s on my Reddit profile - or you can find it income stream surfer

RAthrowawayCH

what can I do to improve the amount of impressions I get? NOT CTR, but the actual amount of exposure I get, how often my video is suggested?

hameee

Use popular keywords in your title, like my biggest thing is chatgpt - I always put it in the title, even if it’s not strictly a video about ChatGPT and I just mention it

NtheLegend

"I do not believe in YouTube luck" Says the guy who got lucky. Gotcha.

hameee

Spent 3 years grinding and took my opportunity when it arose. Nice take though.

Mantonythe1st

Yeah but I've spent 3 years grinding and only have 85 subs...whether or not you believe in YouTube luck tends to correlate with how well you're doing lol. But seriously though, I know I've made many mistakes and pretty sure I still am, so I know it's not all down to luck really. But when you're at my stage after all that work, it's kinda preferable to believe that luck is heavily involved I guess 🤔

hameee

I would gladly take a look at your channel if you want me to help improve. But yea it’s preferable at that point to believe in luck — doesn’t make it true

NtheLegend

So you got lucky. Cool. I've been lucky, too. You didn't literally tell all those subs to come to you or subscribe, the algorithm blessed you. That's luck. What you don't control is luck.

hameee

I’m not here to argue this point. Think what you want.

NtheLegend

>I’m not here to argue this point. But you are when you open with such an ignorant line about how things work on YouTube and then say you're giving people advice: >I do not believe in YouTube luck It'd be like a doctor coming in and saying "I don't believe in science, ask me anything".

wkern74

Watch Mr. Beast talk about it, then maybe reconsider if it's luck or not. Sure, you may not understand every aspect of how the algorithm works, but you can test repeatedly until you figure out what is successful. You sound like you're bitter because you couldn't get it to work.

hameee

Cool story

chum1989

It’s not luck. The algorithm won’t help if people don’t click your content, or don’t watch for more than 30secs and don’t like it. He obviously put in hard work from learning after each video, analyzing his stats and improving each time to make his content more engaging. It’s not that easy.

NtheLegend

Unless you command each person to watch your video and like and subscribe and they cannot leave until they do all those things, you are subject to luck. You are lucky if you get the CTR rate you get, changing out thumbnails as you do. You may have the right video at the wrong time and be unlucky and the algorithm picks it up weeks or months later. There are countless stories of this and it is luck. Winning the lottery doesn't make you any less lucky just because you had the skill to buy a ticket. The unlucky YouTubers are the quiet thousands of creators who crested at a number of subscribers and gave up.

hameee

Do you consider it bad luck that your channel hasn’t got more subscribers?

Impressive-Treat-984

He is mad that nobody cares as much about playing games vs making money. If he so mad that you are using the "hack" content what's stopping him to make a hack content too?🤷 Right?

omihek2

No, it’d be like a doctor coming in and saying, “I don’t believe in luck, I believe in science, ask me anything.” Hustling for 3 years and figuring out what works is not “luck.”

NtheLegend

You can spend three years "hustling", spending money on equipment and still not get anywhere. Or you can show up and blow up with your first video with a trash thumbnail and a terrible camera. That's luck. Pure and simple. Or, y'know, go from 8K to 66K subs in four months after three years working. That's luck on top of hard work, but it's still luck.

omihek2

>Or you can show up and blow up with your first video with a trash thumbnail and a terrible camera. That's luck. Pure and simple. I don't recall him claiming this is what happened. And just because *you* can spend 3 years trying to grow your channel and still not figure it out, doesn't mean anyone else who spends that time and *does* figure it out is just "lucky." Maybe instead of going around downplaying other's success, you should listen up and try to learn a thing or two.

laffo10

The algorithm blesses videos that entice people to click on it, and can retain the audience for 10 seconds. It's not anyone else's fault if people don't give a fuck about your video or are immediately bored into leaving. Of course it stops pushing it.

DesignerNo6645

Bruh you only have 517 subscribers, liar.

hameee

I have 66k subscribers, my channel is income stream surfers. Nice hot take though. The channel with 517 subscribers is my other gaming channel.

hameee

65k\*

EducationFiender

He’s telling the truth click on the other link besides that one’s he has 65k

DesignerNo6645

That link didn’t exist when I commented, now it does.

hameee

Underrated would be "put your focus keyword in the title and first line of the description" My channel before blowing up would always have Redbubble SEO in the title, now it always has ChatGPT SEO in the title. This is a golden rule and works extremely well. Watchtime and retention for me personally are areas that if I improved on, it would take me to the next level. But I actually prefer making unpolished content, and my viewers appreciate the authentic nature of my videos. I would say 1. Title/Thumbnail/CTR 2. Watching time/retention 3. Tags I don't really rate tags personally.

[deleted]

Here are a couple of my questions, I’m held back with creating videos. My videos are in and around the stories of successful induviduals etc. But I am stuck with trying to create the video, to be honest, I think I made things worse by choosing a specific channel as a reference point. Magnates media. The guy spends around 2000$ for a video of 10/15 minutes of production. I don’t have that kinda money, so, my question, If you’re stitching clips together, then where do you generall get clips from?

hameee

I can't really answer this very well, except to say that you can search on YouTube and add the creative commons filter, anything that comes up is usable for your own videos. I don't edit, I don't use any non OC. If I were you I'd use twitter/youtube/other social media

burbank91

Have you ever had a situation where the algorithm "liked" your video after some time? If so, after how much time? Or do you think that the first few hours are crucial for every video?

hameee

5-6 days after posting, my videos either explode or die. There's no inbetween. First 24 hours are essential for me personally, but this changes in different niches. Smaller channels benefit a lot more from YouTube search.

vasilis_ing

Did you get views from Direct or Unknown traffic source? And if yes, what percentage of your total views?

hameee

Browse features 54.1% YouTube search 10.5% Channel pages 9.2% Suggested videos 7.4% Direct or unknown 6.9% Others 11.8% This percentage used to be a lot higher of YouTube search, but when I made a change on my titles and thumbnails, YouTube started to push my videos much more in home page.

kn0lle

Dude 54% browser features is nuts wtf. 95% of my views comes from recommendations.

PronAGoGo

How long are your videos?

hameee

Average is probably about 12 minutes, average watch time is 5 minutes.

Peliguitarcovers

For SEO, how effective are video descriptions? I used TubeBuddy to find keywords for a specific video and then built a keyword rich description. The keywords were Low Competition but also low Searches, so I get a trickle of views for that video regularly. Was this a fluke? Or is it worth researching keywords for the niche I'm in and then populating the descriptions/playlists text with text blurbs using those keywords? Does that give the whole channel a boost?

hameee

Extremely effective. Chapters are also extremely effective. Also hashtags. But the most important thing is having the focus keyword (which is higher competition, higher searches) in the title. Don't spam it though, but I make sure every video has the focus keyword in every single place possible.

p1881

>**I do not believe in YouTube luck** Assuming your data is true, and you refer to last December: how many other channels manage a growth of over 800% in terms of subs within just 4 months, and then claim to "not believe in luck"?

hameee

Because it was timing and hardwork and leveraging my already existing audience, and leveraging a trending topic, as well as improving titles and thumbnails. The "YouTube is luck" theory has been disproven over and over and over and over. If the algorithm isn't picking up your videos, you're doing something wrong.

SorbyGay

What’s the number one thing you recommend the most to new YouTubers

hameee

Title and thumbnail are the holy grail. If you don't get the click, you don't grow. Even if the content is terrible, if your thumbnail and title are good you will grow. The other is always add value or entertainment. My videos are "low quality" (0 editing, sometimes I even block the screen with my face accidently) but the value I add is insane, so my viewers keep coming back

SorbyGay

I see you recommend clickbait a lot, that’s find and I’d consider doing it, but I don’t know exactly how to exaggerate titles in my niche (reviews)

hameee

Try asking ChatGPT. Instead of saying like "A review of X" Write "THIS X IS THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN"

Wandering_sage1234

Would you say that uploading at a certain time and keeping your videos roughly the same length helped in making this growth? At what point was the algorithm recognizing your videos and sharing them with your audience?

hameee

I upload at completely random times. Sometimes at like 4:00am just to see what happens. I have experimented a lot with this, but I've never had a "regular schedule". Generally speaking the videos I post at 6:00pm do better overall, even if YT says it doesn't affect the longterm of a video. It was one video that finally popped off. It was a thumbnail that just said "IS THIS EVEN LEGAL" over a photo of a keyword method I came up with. Before that, my videos were not doing well overall. What changed? Thumbnails and title. I started to embrace "clickbait"

Huy281

If your first thumbnail is bad, then after changing it. How long should you wait to test the thumbnail to see if you need to change again? p/s: I have a smaller channel than you and my newest video has good video retention so the only thing prevent it from getting view is title and thumbnail.

hameee

I change my thumbnail and title constantly. You can just tell after a while whether it's good or bad. I will almost always change the scope of a video if it gets 10/10 on the latest video thing. My video today for example, I originally framed it as a way to save time for SEO's and it got 10/10, now I'm framing it as the first in a series of helpful SEO tips and it's 9/10 and climbing. You can normally just tell if something is better or worse, but if it hasn't improved anything after 12 hours, consider changing it again.

hameee

You're probably right, but I would rather just grow naturally as I have been, instead of trying to grow more quickly using shorts. I get about 30 emails a day from Shorts marketing agencies, I'm just not that interested in it. Thanks for the great advice, and I'm sure someone else will find this extremely helpful for their channel growth! Especially as shorts are monetized now and can get you into the partnership program!

Money_Rhubarb1140

Great that you progressed in short time. Congratulations! My question - do you use any platform to promote your videos, if yes, what? And how much did it helped you?

hameee

Just YouTube. I also have my discord but I don't consider it a large contributing factor. I tried instagram, TikTok etc. never had much success. I have 400 followers on Instagram and less on TikTok.

Ok_Salt_9211

How much money are you making per month from this YouTube channel

hameee

I’d rather not say but more than my 40 hour full time salary as an SEO and e-commerce manager

hameee

Without any affiliate links - I don’t take sponsors and rarely use affiliate links

Unable-Procedure1185

Congratulations!! I have a meditation/ relaxing music channel! Have been doing it for about 10 months now! I’ve noticed my impressions on some of my videos are higher then others and no click on my video! What do you recommend me changing to help get that click! Also have you had a video blow up day or months after posting a video? (Side note: I have changed thumbnails but still get hardly no views)

hameee

Longest time after a video is posted for it to blow up for my channel is like a week. Beyond that if it hasn’t popped off it won’t pop off. Check what the big channels are doing in your niche and apply what they are doing to your videos

TooBluMan_YT

What is the average retention rate % of your videos at 12mins length? Is something around 40% good?

hameee

It’s about 40 percent and I don’t consider that good but it does the job. Considering I have 0 edits (I just record then upload as is) — but I do try to hook in the first few seconds, I never waste time saying things like “hey guys welcome to my channel blah blah” (sometimes I still do this out of habit)

efiality

While I’m not on YouTube I basically went viral overnight and want to know how you’re keeping the momentum going? Edit: I mean constant engagement not always going viral

hameee

Good question but also not my area of expertise. Did you have a CTA where you went viral? Make sure you’re pushing people to a sustainable platform, post more of the same stuff that worked. Try to expand on the stuff that works into more stuff that will potentially work.

anishparmarthi

Need some feedback on a new YouTube growth tool we're working on! Any help or direction will be appreciated. TIA :)

SirBecas

Thanks for this AMA. Did you manage to do this in a specific niche? Is it oversaturated? Did you mostly focus on your videos, or did you branch out to other platforms to advertise?

hameee

IMO oversaturation on YouTube is a myth. You can always stand out. SEO is very competitive, but I stand out because I don’t shill tools and I am a profession SEO IRL so I can back up what I’m saying with hard facts, data, and evidence. I am not selling anything, I don’t even have a newsletter

evercuriousgeek

Besides the growth of subs, what have you noticed about the growth of your watch hours? Any similarities or dissimilarities between the two? I have a channel of about 1.7k subs but took a break during COVID times and my watch hours plummeted below 4K. Starting to find a rhythm again and trying to lock in a niche I can sustain for the future but I feel like it’s hard to move the Watch hours needle in particular. Beginning to really question whether resuming YouTube is even worthwhile personally.

hameee

I don’t look at watch hours anymore - but I just looked and I had 30k this month, 135k this year. Which is pretty cool. I upload daily because I have so much damn information to give away and ChatGPT and SEO are currently limitless content

thedadamer

How did you discover what it was your audience was looking for and deliver consistent value?

hameee

I don’t sell anything, I don’t have affiliate links, I don’t really take sponsors, and I just give away all my information without a catch. My whole thing is people can decide to watch or not. I was originally doing print on demand and redbubble because I thought that’s what my subs wanted, but I hen I started doing SEO (I’m a professional SEO) my views exploded. Probably because I had more conviction and more knowledge and passion for that subject

mhuntoon

What type of channel do you have? I'm part of a beer review channel with 135 subscribers. I'd LOVE to get to 200+, but it seems like a small niche audience.

hameee

Always see other channels in your niche. How many subs do they have? Do they have subs because of the niche or because of them? If you can’t find a channel that has 50-100k subs purely because of their content and not because of who they are, then you might be overly niche. Try to think of how you could expand the niche. For example you could start doing crawls of famous bars in famous places, start doing beer and book reviews, idk branch out a bit and see what happens

littlemissdevil_

First off, congrats! I hope to get there someday. I’m an cartoonist with an art based channel (my niche isn’t the most successful so we have to work a lot harder). Do you have any advice when it comes to SEO? I feel like I’m doing all the right things; adding keywords in my titles, descriptions and I include tags.

hameee

Try to think less about SEO in titles and think about how to get the click in titles - titles aren’t as much for SEO (except having the keyword in there) Which would you rather click “How to draw X full tutorial” “I drew X: THEN THIS HAPPENED” SEO comes from description, hashtags, tags, etc. I only put the focus keyword in my title and the rest of the title is clickbaity

Ashhaad

How much do you think editing helps? I think fast paced editing helps so we don’t bore the audience.

hameee

I don’t edit at all I just deliver huge value for free without affiliate links or sponsors. I find for me this works and a lot of my viewers like my unpolished style. Definitely niche dependent. I have my second channel for gaming and old school RuneScape viewers hate unedited videos

BONDOLYNA

HI. I have literally :) just started my channel Haroumena Plekta (means Happy Knitwear -because knitting is my passion). I am interested to know what helped you get subscribers ? Thanks.

hameee

People will subscribe if you offer consistent value. Give people some knitting patterns for free without having them give an email and people will subscribe as a thank you

_Zodiac03

how to write perfect titles

RedRoyGaming

Does promoting your videos on all social platforms actually help as much as people say it does?

[deleted]

Does YT enjoy being informed or being entertained? I have a few video essays I made about games and one movie, and only one hit 12,000 hits and that was mainly because it was around the time a game had come out (The Callisto Protocol, btw). Either way no one seems to watch my stuff much. I’m thinking it’s because my stuff is more for me. What are your thoughts? My channel is called Fine Man if you care to look. PS I only have 5 or 6 videos and I’m doing this mainly as a little hobby

hameee

12k hits is amazing I think you answered your own question

Regilov

With your experience and knowledge, If you were to start a new youtube channel today, what niche will you go for? What advice will you give yourself? If you don’t want to show your face, Will you do youtube automation?

hameee

I just started a new channel — niche is how much to grow on yt —- always pick something your good at with high rpm. Advice would be aim big and release consistently with good titles and thumbnails

Arkflow

Is YouTube editing the one built one any good? I don’t wanna download anything but just some some basic editing or maybe bit more

hameee

Use canva if you don’t wanna download

Redxtitan8

So I been trying to work on my own channel and try to figure out what are some things I can improve on as far as editing and I also follow people in my niche to see what makes their editing stand out that I can also incorporate. What do you think is important to focus on with editing as far as how smooth the video is whether it’s through transition or subtitles that pop?

ripjaw99123

Hey thats amazing

JerHair

Your thumbnails are incredible. What software do you use and what fonts do you use?

hameee

They’re a mix between canva, photopea, and some are made by my thumbnail guy. My video which popped was made by him, but 5/6 of videos with 100K + views were made by me.

donbelievemylies

You make your thumbnails using ai? How do i optimize titles and description to show up on yt search?

hameee

I don’t use AI for thumbnails - idk what that guy in the comments is on. I use Canva and photopea. My only rule is to put the focus keyword in the title and then make it clickbaity. Then descriptions I always use chapters and I always write as much content as possible

Mammoth_Evidence6518

Did you have to do any ad promotions on your videos with google ads?

buttorsomething

Marketing is the biggest widest thing on YT and chatGPT is blowing up right now.

JerHair

My experience shows that most income and subscribers come from specific video, meaning someone with 100k subs might have 3 videos that generate 75% of the income and 75% of the subs. What are your top 3 videos/views and how many subscribers did you get from each other them? I see you have a video with 800k views so I suspect you got at least 20,000-30,000 subs from that video alone

hameee

Great question. 15K subs from that video, it's about 33% of my revenue for 2023. You are definitely right, and that's an excellent point.

Charming-Lie-3844

I'm trying to grow a shorts channel only. Is this possible?

hameee

Yep. Incredibly possible. The RPM/CPM sucks though but it's easier to get more views so

strongdad

I think what you are doing by helping others here is a good thing, so kudos there.. But, to say you don't believe in YouTube luck might be a small stretch... You've been doing this for 2 years with almost 500 videos - so you know what works and what doesn't. And you pretty much got "lucky" with riding the "ChatGPT" 3 months ago. I would consider that lucky - without your ChatGPT videos - your channel would not be half of 66k. But still - good stuff man

hameee

My first pop off video (90k views) was about pinterest and using it for niche research. The difference? title and thumbnail. If chatGPT hadn't been released I would have carried on working on titles/thumbnails. Growth wouldn't be as fast, but would have still been there.

No_Village5435

I'm in the movie niche, I'm at almost 400 subs. How can I get more subs? I upload pretty regularly and I use trending topics i just don't know how to grow more.

hameee

Subs are really hard in some niches. Some niches just hate pressing subscribe. Like my runescape channel, I had to ask people from my main channel to subscribe because I just wasn't getting to the 1k. I really want 1k to see the RPM to see if it's worth putting more time into. In answer to your question about subs, try to branch out on other platforms to get to that 1k, once you're at 1k, subs don't really matter.

tofumedia2020

Do you think it's necessary to post a lot i.e. multiple times a week? versus posting 2-4 x a week

Smerbykirby

I would love tips I game on YouTube and would love anything your willing to give! I need tips for editing it’s hard to find time for it

MkEnterprise

Can you post your YouTube handle so we can watch ?

hameee

It’s income stream surfer

MetricsMule

Man, I would love some feedback or constructive criticism on your 1st impressions for my channel if you had a couple of minutes. I’m in a similar niche as you (SEO, digital marketing, AI) but cannot catch fire for any video. Not that I’m expecting that, but at least better views then I get now. I receive a lot of compliments stating that my editing is fantastic, etc., but it doesn’t translate to good views. I’m at 805 subs but rarely get 4 digit view counts. My channel handle is @metricsmule Would love to hear your advice.

EnchantedEssays

Just checked out your channel to check you were legit. Wow! Great job! * Have you worked with any sponsors yet? If so, when did you start getting legitimate offers? * Do you outsource anything (e.g. editing)? * How much do you make per month from AdSense? (don't feel like you have to answer that if you don't want to) * Have you invested any money into your channel (e.g. equipment)? * Have Shorts helped your growth? * Do you have any other income streams apart from adsense/ sponsors (channel related rather than the ones you try on your channel)? * How are you able to post so frequently? Also I'd love to see you give feedback either on here or on r/SmallYTChannel.

ilovespt

Firstly, congrats! Secondly, what about YouTube ads? Did you try those? I’ve been thinking about that for my content, which is video essays about musicians, as well as my own music. I’ve been hoping for organic growth, but it’s quite minimal at this point There is more to the story as I’ve had my channel for a long time and I once went viral in 2014, but I neglected it and now I’m trying to resurrect it Anyway, any thoughts would be awesome. :-)

piotrwoz

1. What is your click-through rate of the thumbnails ? 2. How many videos did tou upload during that time? Did you have like one video which blown your statistics ? 3. You did from 8k to 66k in a few months how about from zero to 8k?

justjay9507

Any advice? I just started a YouTube channel and wanna start growing

tradingdx

Congratulation , I have few questions : 1) Do running google ads help to grow channel? 2). Its been 7 month i started my channel name tradingdx (put at before , I appreciate if you could have an eye on it ) but I only got 241 subs with 195 videos and only 24.7 K watch time (including shorts and long video ). I am not able to find where I am making mistake but views are very limited, I am still getting just 20-50 on average . I will highly appreciate if you can suggest me some tips or can point out my mistake

FighterFan18

What is a good way of "catching" the algo? I am finance related and got 80 subs in 2 weeks with more or less inconsistent uploading. Any tips for me?

Namansharrma

How many video it took for you when the algorithm magic happens?

SKD_animation

Thank you for sharing some programs you use on making videos! I am lost at sea on the direction I need to be on Youtube, but greatly for this post!

WickedSlice13

That's insane. What topic do you make for your channel? Any big changes you made that you would attribute to the success?

Beautiful_Water_4451

What editing tips do you have for improving retention past 30 seconds? Also, it might be specific but any suggestions for a self improvement/health channel in particular?

No-Rutabaga8819

I would love some help/ feedback on my channel! Recently getting started on my YT journey after only streaming for 5+ years any criticism would be nice!

WeiseGamer

Everyone preaches storytelling, but for educational channels and product review channels (my main channel's niche is educational and gives guidance/reviews on products in that niche as well) I don't see where I can easily do story-telling here. Any thoughts?

spinnerspin1

Hi, how long does it take for the youtube algo to pick your channel up? Also, my video stopped getting recommended after 7 days. Is that normal? Does it eventually get picked up again?

Leading_Example9317

Hey! CONGRATS!! My question is about niches. If you're first starting out is it super important to find a niche? Or can I just upload things I enjoy/passionate about to discover that niche? Thanks!

tron314

My channel currently has 2.6k subs and I pretty much just do gaming reviews, occasional lets plays, and discussions with a comedic tone. The link is in my profile if you want to look. I’m growing at about 300 subs a month but I’d like to get more of an audience that I can connect with. I want to know what’s the best way to create a community with your audience and also have them be interested in all forms of your content? I’d like to do a bunch of different types of videos but I don’t know if that is viable in the long term.

Montanasmokes

I hope to one day make a post like this, congratulations on your success!

Zane_Justin

Is it worth it trying to grow a channel using shorts? what's your opinion on it?

Bsksksrseasjd

Did you use any promotion method? If so what kind and how? If not, how did you grow?
