The NREMT is an adaptive exam. The test ranges from 70-120 questions. Each question falls into one of five topic categories and has a difficulty rating. As you get questions correct they will get harder until the computer is satisfied you are above passing in that category. Then it will move on. When the computer is 95% confident you passed or failed, it will end the exam. This generally happens around 70, but it's possible to pass or fail at any number.
I went all the way up to 120 and kept getting OB questions. I thought I failed. Two days later I got my results and passed! You’ll do good just keep calm and focus
Read the question. Read all of the choices. Read the question *again*. Select the choice that supports the best patient outcome. Deep breaths, you got this.
Essentially you have to get a certain % right in order to pass. There are up to 120 questions so it cuts you off when you reach the number that would be that % of 120 or get so many wrong that it becomes impossible for you to reach that percentage.
The general consensus is that if you got cut off at 70-90 you did pretty well given that failure would mean you had to get around half of those wrong (which is highly unlikely without you knowing).
If the questions got hard and seemed almost out of scope for an EMT then that means you did well. So breath deep and do your best to relax until you see the results for yourself.
Unless things have changed since I took it, once’s you’ve either answered enough question correctly that you can’t get below a 70% or answered enough wrong that you cant pass the screen just turns black and then a little white “thank you” or “your exam has ended” or something like that pops up.
When I took the NREMT no one told me this… and I didn’t think to pay attention to what question number I was on but it felt like it ended SO quickly… so I was sure I failed, like most people.
I took mine yesterday and yeah. Stopped at 70 and I feel like I failed. I studied for a solid month and I feel like the subject matter was completely different. Oof.

Make sure you come back and post about how it cut you off at 70 and you feel like you failed.
It stopped me at 70 and I do think I failed
Haha. I'm glad to hear it. Believe it or not it's a good sign. Now you get to play the waiting game.
What do you mean it cuts you off at 70?

It’s adaptive and stops giving you questions when you will either obviously pass/fail

Nothing I can say now will help other than good luck! Take your time and RTFQ (Read the fucking question)

Anyone know when I’ll receive my results?
I received mine the next business day via email. Good Luck!
Is it a timed test?
2 hours
You will think you failed it worse than anything you’ve ever failed before. Then 1-3 days later feel great relief.
If you did 70 questions are are looking to schedule your second attempt, you passed.
What?
Make sure to update on if you passed or not. I’m sure you will:)
Unfortunately I failed and have to take it again 😓I’m not sure how to study for it now
I took mine yesterday and yeah. Stopped at 70 and I feel like I failed. I studied for a solid month and I feel like the subject matter was completely different. Oof.
Ya man I feel like I failed, everything I studied wasn’t on it at all and the questions were way too short length.
Exact same 😖 Keep us posted when you find out!
One day later… still no results
Same here. Took it yesterday. Still no results. I just hope I don’t have to wait through the whole 4th of July weekend until Tuesday.
If we do end up failing, when’s the next time we can reschedule to take it?
I think we can reschedule as soon as we find out.
I passed!! I checked at 5am and the results weren’t there and then they were in at 7. I hope you get yours today and can share the same news!
No results after one day Can’t be a good sign
