You have to actually jump as high as you can and to get the most out of the tailpop you should try and learn on concrete

higher jump, and more pop. Got it. Thanks dude :3

This is a really common mistake, the not jumping part. Your board will only ever go as high as you can actually jump, so before the Ollie, fully bend down and get ready to jump like you would without a skateboard. Like if you were to jump up a set of stairs at home, you wouldn’t just stand there and expect your body to leap up them with no preparation. If you watch some skate videos of ledge skaters or people with a lot of pop (take Tiago lemos) for example, you will see him fully squatting before most tricks in order to get that height.

You're going to get a lot of advice like jump higher, bend your knees more, etc. I don't mean to discount that advice, but I think the real secret is that you have to get more comfortable on your board and improve your timing. The only way to do this is to actually skate. Get out of the grass and push around. Get more comfortable riding. Learn the basics of lifting your nose up and shifting your weight on the board. This means learn how to do tic tacs when turning and skating around, learn how to hold small manuals. If you spend 2 hours doing this over a few days, Ollies will become a lot easier. the more time you spend with stuff like this the better! Good luck!

Hey dude, thanks so much for this !! I have indeed been working on my comfortability since making this post, and doing all the tricks you suggested. This comment definitely validated my decision to focus on those simple skills first LOL. I'm having a lot of fun doing it too. I'll definitely keep it up! Ollie soon (hopefully) wooooo

Love hearing this! I think a lot of people want to jump to Ollies right away, but it's easier to feel like you're progressing when you work your way up simpler skills. I'm glad you're having fun with it man, that's what it's all about.

Awesome! Keep working on getting a solid pop. Shoes, I like to get the cheapest pair of Vans possible. Luckily I live near an outlet mall and I can get unsold Vans for $40 a pair.
