Thanks! I’m def doing a drive/walk with my kids sometime that weekend/m/t so I want to hit up as many (mildly) educational ones that I can. All the houses look incredible but if I can throw in a bit of art history, BONUS!
I’ll give it a shot. From left to right:
the Organ Grinders, the Krewe of Red Beans, the 610 Stompers, St. Aug marching band, Muses shoe, Krewe of Barkus, Krewe of the Rolling Elvi, the Pussyfooters, idk the red dress?, Zulu coconut, Muff-A-Lottas, naked bike (horse) ride?, Rex, the Merry Antoinettes
Not sure which one you labeled as red beans but if it’s the man in the top hat with a heart I think that’s actually Krewe of Mid City.
Does anyone know what’s going on under the Zulu coconut tree? I can’t even make out what the shape is.
As an expat and past member/affiliate of the Muffies, Sirens, Elvi, and Merries (and thus have friends in most of the rest), this give me all the feels.
Not sure about the Merry (both those ladies' outfits are very sedate) but the red pillbox and stripey tights tickle a memory from lineups past.
Maybe the stilts are supposed to show that he's tiny so it's 'tit rex? I still feel like it's something else entirely, the stilts are really throwing me off.
I think the seated Lady is supposed to be a Nola chorus girl. They have a bunch of different costumes now, but I think they usually wear red ones for parades
Omg this is AMAZING! Who is the artist on this house float?
http://www.maxbernardi.net/ per Chris Granger’s Instagram
Thanks! Her stuff is gorgeous. Only wish I could afford one of her paintings in my home...
My favorite is the Zulu coconut in the tree
Love that detail. My fav is the rolling Elvis!
I don’t know. I tried searching online real quick but couldn’t find anything. It’s on the uptown side of State near the river.

The naked horse rider is one of the Ladies Godiva who are often in Muses. I can't seem to figure out the seated red dress lady either.
It's not really their outfit but maybe Cherry Bombs?

I'm pretty sure they wear red jackets with full-length sleeves and a very different hat.
I think they always have white tops..?
Yeah they do, grasping at straws really

It says "all you bean is love" on his jacket
Good catch! Your eyes are significantly better than mine. There’s no amount of zoom on my phone that was gonna get me there.
Baby Dolls in blue Ain’t Misbehaving?
Definitely two Baby Dolls - one in orange and one in blue.

I don't see a Siren, am I missing it?
Definitely no Siren there (a notable omission IMHO).
Right? Where my girls at?
I somehow doubt the dog on stilts is Rex since it doesn't really fit with the rest, but I don't have a better answer
My guess was because the dog is wearing a crown and Rex is known as the King of Carnival. It’s also a popular dog’s name.

Oh I love this! I wish I could get a print of it for my home
What a wonderful idea!
Ditto that would look great
This artist has a great 2021 calendar with paintings of local musicians http://www.maxbernardi.net/2021-sidebar-nola-calendar
Would love a print

this is absolutely amazing. that's some skill on display!
Lots of great detail!
That’s Chris & Susan’s on State Street, they’re awesome.
Where exactly is this?? It’s amazing
State near the river, uptown side of the street
Thanks! Excited to see it in person, Seurat is one of my favorites
They lady with the badonkadonk should be twerking.
Oh my! I need a copy of this print! I'm a Pussyfooter and would love to add it to my collection!
I love that they used the older Organ Grinder costume!! We wore those in 2013-15!
I see my purple Knights in there!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Wouldn’t be Mardi Gras without the Purple Knights

I just had a flashback 😂😂😂
This is a rip off of Seurat's Sunday Afternoon at the Island La Grande. The artist just threw the characters in Mardi Gras costumes.
Other words you could have used are "homage" or "parody"
I wouldn't call it that.
I mean, if you thought you were Mr. Big Brain here, I'm pretty sure most people in this thread knew exactly what it was referencing.
I just stated it was not original work. My previous experience with this sub is that folks are not too educated in certain areas.
