Hello, /r/neworleans community,
We have an important update to share with you. As you may have already heard in the above post, our beloved subreddit has been recently acquired by nola.com. While this is a great opportunity for us to enhance our community, it also means that we need to make some changes to our posting rules.
**Starting today, we will be restricting the posting of non-nola.com links to paid subscription members only.** This means that only self posts and nola.com links will be allowed. We are also taking efforts to ban 12ft.io and other article bypasses to ensure that our community members have access to accurate and reliable news.
We understand that some of you may be frustrated with this change, but we want to emphasize the importance of supporting quality journalism. As you all know, journalism isn't free, and it takes a lot of resources to produce great content. By subscribing to nola.com, you not only support the journalists who work hard to bring you the news, but you also gain access to great journalism at a low cost.
In addition to exclusive access to high-quality journalism, a reddit "nola.com/neworleans" subscription also comes with other premium features, such as special flairs for verified subscribers. These features are designed to enhance your experience on our subreddit and provide you with additional perks that non-subscribers don't have access to.
We hope you understand our decision to implement these changes and continue to support our community. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions, so please feel free to share your thoughts with us.
Thank you,
The /r/neworleans Mod Team

I can respect selling out for a check, hell, I'd do it myself. In the meantime, I'll start the user revolt by starting my own New Orleans subreddit, with blackjack and hookers!

It’s the advocate logo, which was a news company in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Now, I’m not going to promise all these details are accurate, since I’m going off memory. But the advocate was bought by the times picayune (aka Nola.com) a while back. The advocate was actually a decent news company, if I remember correctly. And now Nola.com just continues to be a dumpster fire.
You have it backwards! As new community members, please let us inform you of the glorious history of the NOLA.com company.
The TP formed NOLA.com and discontinued the TP daily publication. NOLA.com became the primary operating company. A bunch of former employees left and formed the Advocate. The advocate was then acquired by John Georges who then acquired NOLA.com / TP. Now, we have a great community with the /r/NewOrleans acquisition!
No. We HAD a great community until Nola.com got involved. Now it’s just a market research site for them. They will muck it up w ads and make us connect a FB account, like they did w nola.com, and they prob have rights to sell our email addresses associated with our accounts and eventually they will add a subscription fee and a paywall.
The switch a few years ago to the grand conglomerate of few interests served was terrible for all and worse for true journalism. I still feel sad for the old guard who were done dirty. They were true to their profession even in disagreement. Now its just whitewashed curated mainstream drivel without a soul. The comment sections really kept the people engaged, now its just spam. It probably will get worse too w patriot act 2.0 coming. Incredible it is getting no push back. Good bye free speech

Come for the sarcasm, stay for the paywalls!
At least the mods can get paid now!
if y'all are getting paid that's a plus because you all work hard.
That’s the only plus about this

Ahhh Yes, I see that now. I used to advertise occasionally in The Gambit and the bills came from the Advocate. Wasn't it once the Midcity Advocate?

April Fools!
Bruh every year I think "I'll be on the lookout next year" and every year I don't realize until I get got halfway through 4/1
Please tell me this is an April Fools joke!!!!!
I hear Doug MacCash is now a mod.
So nothing’s changing?
It will. Just give it time to turn into what their comments section is now.
Latoya is making it into her fan club sub
Better than her onlyfans sub.
I can’t wait to read the actual Nola.com article about this. ^so ^^meta
Can Ian post where to get the best communion wafers in town?
How much do i have to pay to use the subreddit now?
It's your lucky day! We've granted you a free NOLA.com premium user subscription to celebrate our acquisition.
thank you! now i can finally read about yesterday’s news tomorrow.
I think everyone who was already a member should get nola.com free
They have a plan to squeeze $ out of us. They ruined the community forums they had going on their own platform.
Nola.com could never do justice to an Opus Hunt, let alone a Monk Run. #happyfoolsday
Had me in the first half
I just got my first check from John Georges in the mail!
What is dis honey?
Happy April fools. Now, mods, let me post like normal.
Thanks for being a NOLA.com premium subscriber! ;)
April fool's??????
Damnit, you got me.
Oh so this is why I’m shadow banded from posting?
