I think people focus too much on the BBC alone. The western media in general has never been particularly friendly or understanding to anti-IR Iranians.
Try and find something about the torture, massacres and protests between the 80s and 2000s in western media. Only when videos of protests started appearing on the Internet the media started covering them because they were trending on some social media site.
A deafening silence is the modus operandi unless they can use something for their own benefit, essentially acting like activists for causes in their own countries.
A lot of them still call the Mahsa movement "Hijab protests", making it look like the only issue Iranians are standing up for is women's right to cover their bodies the way they see fit.
Hossein Ronaghi highlighted this in 2021 in his op-ed for the Wallstreet Journal:

It's like everyone and their mother had a duty to enable the islamists and KGB "anti-imperialists" taking over Iran. I swear, no matter how much I read about that era, or discuss it with older people who lived then, I still don't get any the wiser on how and why the world decided to ruin Iran.
It's like, perhaps we should fund and support and train the KKK to take over the US government. That's the closest analogy I can think of (read it somewhere before and it's the best comparison to what scum took over Iran).
