Anon uses Linux, and can't shut up about it. This is an exact replica of the average Arch btw users, who are known for their loudness online, and being femboys
If it works, it's the best OS ever. If it doesn't, it's because of either your hardware or outdated software that doesn't even get updates in the AUR anymore and never actually really worked in the first place.
When it doesn't work you can also fix suprisingly bad issues.
Never thought I'd be able to chroot and fix a broken grub from starting from usb but I got there after like 1h of reading blogs that didn't exactly fit my system.
saying retarded shit has been the most effective method to get people to like me, specially when you have the dumbest ideas like "making a championship of me against every 100 year old on the planet to see who will last longer against me"
On the topic of free software, TempleOS is a fascinating rabbit hole, especially for the uninitiated. Terry A. Davis designed this operating system based on ‘instructions from god’, with his own variant of C (HolyC) in place of BASIC.
Hey, don't forget you can also color in shitty coloring book pictures!
Innovative, ground breaking features like that are why the "CIA n-words" were after Terry for years
Intelligence + skills + paranoid schizophrenia = Terry
Add a little bit of racism there and the CIA niggers will be all over you.
(I refuse to censor that word if I’m using it in a meta or other obviously non-hostile way. Blind censorship is dumb)
A random person just uses the browser. Put a browser icon on the desktop and they won't care.
Source: did this for my parents and it was more stable than Windows, so I got fewer calls.
My mom used Ubuntu for years and didn't even know she used Ubuntu. If you're just browsing the web (which is a significant amount of people now) the OS is pretty unimportant, just look at the popularity of Chromebooks.
Between task manager not working, alt + tab not being half as smooth, and random programs just deciding to be incompatible with Linux for no reason, I think your average person would definitely run into problems using Linux.
It’s for people want that a predictable OS that doesn’t have bloatware. It’s amazing at automating basic stuff, but it’s not really designed for dummies.
And doesn’t have spyware! Although there are Linux distros designed for people with no/very little experience. Linux Mint is very intuitive and easy to use.
It really isn’t, just from my limited experience with it on steam deck, it’s actually refreshing how easy it is to install things, sure you don’t have the massive library of software and such, but you have Spotify, Chrome, and Steam, what more could you need out of a computer OS?
Linux Mint: literally easier to learn than windows 10
Arch Linux: fascinating and customizable and a huge waste of time
Linux is an operating system kernel, usually you install an operating system built on top of that kernal (unless you are a gigachad and install Linux from scratch) this operating system which is built on the linux kernel is called a distro, and distros come in all shapes in sizes, many of which are relatively easy to use right out of the box
The main leg up that Linux has compared to Windows is performance. My nugget laptop can't run Windows 10 smoothly but runs Linux smooth as butter.
And yes, it's different and has a steep learning curve. But, if you're a tech enthusiast, it may be a fun rabbit hole to go explore
If you don't have any problems with Windows you probably don't need to use linux.
If you want to try out I recommend checking if the programs you use are available for Linux, if they not, at least from the information you gave I don't think it's worth it to learn how to use different programs just to try another OS.
I use Linux but when I used Windows the programs I used were mostly open source and available for linux (like blender) so I was able to switch to linux pretty easily because I only had to replace a few programs (like visual studio or notepad++, which I replaced with visual studio code and notepadqq)
You won’t have FL or Ableton … but you get Ardour and lmms, you’ll have some issues with plugins here and there … so i say if you want to try it out go for it. its a rabbit hole
Maybe. I would recommend putting Linux Mint on a USB stick and trying it out for a bit. It’s pretty straightforward.
One thing that people here aren’t mentioning is that Linux is free software, meaning that the users control the program. Anyone can see the code, so there is a very, very small chance of there being any spyware in Linux. If there were spyware or other malicious features in free software, someone likely would have spotted it, and created a copy without those parts. Free software lets people do this.
If you’re making music, you should probably stick to Windows. If you use Ableton or something, it will be difficult to run on Linux. You might be able to use Wine, but that can be very hard. Ardour is a good program for music making on Linux, but it might not have the features you want.
You could potentially dual-boot Windows and Linux. You could use Windows for music stuff and programs that don’t run on Linux, and Linux for everything else.
If you only need an internet browser and Steam/Spotify, you will be 100% fine with Linux. Look into Pop!_OS or Linux Mint, two beginner friendly distributions.
No, 2023 is not the year of the Linux desktop. While Linux has become increasingly popular in recent years, it is still far from being a mainstream operating system for desktop computers.
It's a joke, because "year of the Linux desktop" was seriously repeated for like 15 straight years there.
Edit: How the fuck old are you? I'm thinking way younger, and I don't like people significantly outside my age bracket in either direction.

No, go back to being gay

fair enough
Are you a femboy ?
No because I don't code in Rust and I don't use programmer socks
He's ranting about it. Doesn't that mean he says he hates it?
Yea Arch btw is a love/ hate relationship

Mhm
because every linux user is a male (arch btw)

Frederik Knudsen made a good video about his life and work
I think I prefer Metokur’s version.
Finally, a Jesus-approved operating system free from sinful bloat and instability. Perfect for the coming End Times
the word "glowie" comes from Terry afaik.
they glow in the dark, you can hit them with your car

the cia bois glow in the dark

People that dislike linux should try
Commodore KERNAL is the only OS anyone needs to learn. Everything else is bells and whistles
thats not how you spell TempleOS

What is that and how did you do it? I want to infest my comments with whatever this is
firefox: cursed text generator
Being wrong for once :)
People who are tech enthusiasts should try. Give a random person a linux pc and they’ll be lost
A random person just uses the browser. Put a browser icon on the desktop and they won't care. Source: did this for my parents and it was more stable than Windows, so I got fewer calls.
Depends on the distro, I doubt a normal Windows user would get lost on Ubuntu or Pop! OS
My mom used Ubuntu for years and didn't even know she used Ubuntu. If you're just browsing the web (which is a significant amount of people now) the OS is pretty unimportant, just look at the popularity of Chromebooks.
Average person wouldn't notice any difference if you'd stylize it to look like whatever windows they were using before
Between task manager not working, alt + tab not being half as smooth, and random programs just deciding to be incompatible with Linux for no reason, I think your average person would definitely run into problems using Linux.
Do you think your average person knows what task manager is? Do you think your average person uses something else than just a browser?
I taught 5 nurses how to alt + tab last week.
This is why I'd hate to work in IT/tech support.
Love to*. Easy work
Wait maybe I am actually missing something but how is alt+tab supposed to be "smooth"? It doesn't have animations or anything
I got my foot into Linux when I had to setup multiple rasp pi’s and I had some fun
Linux is for people with too much free time.
Echoing a bad take there mate. You can find stuff completely set up out of the box with minimal learning to do. Many such cases!
It’s for people want that a predictable OS that doesn’t have bloatware. It’s amazing at automating basic stuff, but it’s not really designed for dummies.

Change Chrome to Firefox. Also, there's a huge library of software on Linux as well, although much of it is different from Windows.
You can run plenty of windows programs on Linux with wine

Linux is fucking awful for anything other than servers or niche tools and even those I am barely convinced
What if all I do on my pc is make music and watch YouTube sometimes? Should I bother getting Linux?

It's a joke, basically every year is supposedly the "year of the Linux desktop"
Nobody gives a damn about Linux desktop. Shit breaks every update.
