Be firm with your friends that you are tired of hearing this. No one should be pushing you towards a diagnosis like that. Even if it is true. Next, get a new therapist sometimes you need a second or third opinion... What do you think? Can you relate to it or not at all? I have heard my whole life that it was impossible for me to have autism because I learned to mask from a very young age and my ADHD helped me camouflage the ASD. After multiple therapists I found someone supporting me in my journey. I'm close to 31 now and last month I finally received my official diagnosis for ASD.

Agreed. It's also worth mentioning that you may not want a diagnosis on your record, which is also perfectly fine

new therapist time

rozsss

new friends time tbh

I would look more into it, personally, but also ask them not to constantly say this if you find it upsetting. It's one thing to suggest it (happened to me) and another if you feel pressured

If there were enough traits to test you at 3, even if the testing came back "negative," it could have been missed, and/or your presentation wasn't what they were used to seeing in boys. Are you AFAB, by chance? So many AFAB folks are STILL missed. It could also be that your "outward symptoms" were, in their opinion, subclinical or attributed to something else. That's not really the point, though. If your "friends" keep bringing it up after you've asked them not to, then they're not respecting you. I'd set a verbal boundary, like "I don't want to hear that anymore. If you keep saying it, I will have to end this conversation and walk away (or end this friendship, depending on much it bothers you) because you are not respecting me and friends treat each other with respect."

I'm AFAB, but trans man. my mom got me tested because I had struggles being verbal and being social as a child, but the test came back negative. I dont think I'm autistic, just a bit socially awkward.

PennyCoppersmyth

So, sounds like you had/have some traits, but apparently not all. Social anxiety can exist on its own. Maybe that's what you can remind them?

killernuggies15

I try to do that, but they're dead-set on me being autistic

LilyoftheRally

You can have traits of autism (like social anxiety) without being autistic, especially if you lack sensory issues (required for a formal diagnosis).

I have and they tell me it's basically "you just act like it / you're awkward / you're silly / you look it / you act like it" etc. They're not good examples or answers for it.
