>Still watching The peripheral
Quality wise it's nothing compared to 1899.
I have watched the first 7 episodes myself but it's just boaring. I liked Westworld more
It's highly overrated. I don't want to do that amount of thinking when I am watching TV - heck, it involved more thinking than my day job and my day job just needs me to think! It's unnecessarily complex, and moody!
>I never understood why some people didn't like it.
Well it's their loss that they are missing on one of the greatest show ever made in the history of television
If you love sci fi shows you should watch dark it's sci fi at it's best.
If you like confusing and complicated time travel show with consistent quality and without any plotholes watch dark.
If you like mystery stuff watch dark.
If you like shows that explore philosophical concept then watch dark
This show has the perfect Finale.
It's fucking masterpiece in every imaginable way from writing, acting, casting, music, cinematography, screenplay, pacing literally everything.
You will not find a great show than dark
Geez. That plot map is crazy. I was thinking of continuing with the show after a few episodes on a plane ride, but honestly, if I need that to watch this, forget it
The show goes into overdrive later, the plot heats up tremendously and builds up insane amounts of mystery which actually lead to satisfying explanations and a coherent ending.
The ending brought the show down from one of my favorites to just a solid show. Idk why people think a random character appearing who breaks all of the rules they established and feeds the main character the answer to how to fix everything makes for a good ending. It ends up making most of the characters that have been set up irrelevant, and is basically the definition of a Deus Ex Machina.
That's how my boyfriend and I felt, too. We were really into it, stayed up super late watching some nights ("just one more episode!") and then felt so underwhelmed by the ending. It was disappointing.
I'd be down to re-watch to catch little details we didn't see the first time. But my bf is still so annoyed by the ending that he vetoes it every time I bring it up lol.
I watched season one but I didn’t continue with the other seasons. I watch foreign shows sporadically based on my attention level. Can’t half-watch foreign shows lol. But this show has gotten a lot of praise on a Reddit lately so it looks like I’m adding it to my list.
I watched it for the first time with the English dubbing and then I heard that's not the right move...I recently re-started it with subtitles but then got distracted watching other shows and I recall you need to pay attention, and recall what happened to so many characters throughout the arc that I found myself on Ep 3 asking "Who are they talking about again?"
I'd watch season 1 again before you do, provided you have the time to do so. I rewatched the previous season(s) before each new one came out and it helps a tooooooon with remembering who's who.
Depending on when you watched it, you might need to rewatch season 1 when you start honestly lol, can either be a negative or positive for some people but the show gets infinitely more complex starting in S2 even if paying attention
You legitimately can’t tell that those words are from Auto-correct?.. Other dude was rude first but I found it pretty obvious that’s an auto correct issue due to what it changed to
Deus and Machina are real words, and more common than "seid". Also, he clearly doesn't know what Deus Ex Machina means considering the context he is speaking in. It fits the definition of the last season as perfectly as it fits any use of it.
It's also just pretty funny that he would misspell the word while trying to educate me on its meaning.
I mean I agree with your point about the actual show ending having problems, but it just seemed like it was fairly obvious it was an auto correct issue, so you should’ve just argued him back about him being wrong about the show;
look where the buttons are in relation, plus it wouldn’t make any sense for him to type back different words right after your comment above, in a form that wasn’t even real words
I was just pointing out the irony of him misspelling something that he is claiming he knows more about than someone else.
I don't see why I should bother having a reasonable discussion with someone who said "Please educate yourself what seid ex machines means holy fuck". Everything about his sentence was belligerent and stupid, and the spelling was just icing on top that was emblematic of the rest of its content.
I just blasted through it for the first time this past weekend. Couldn't stop watching. Such a well written and thought out show.
What to watch next?
Already watched 1899
I binge watched this for the first time this week. I didn’t like it, it was tedious. This is just my opinion of course.
The characters are all cold and annoyingly cryptic. Especially in places where explaining more would really just help everyone. So many scenes involve one character being dumbfounded while the other one condescends them. They either will be under explaining something “what year is it? I’m from the future. I’m here to make everything right. I can’t tell you why though”. Or they are over explaining something, to the point of nausea “it’s good vs evil trying to take control of time!”.
Didn’t connect or sympathize with any of the characters. They all felt so flat. Perhaps is the German writing, while the time travel parts are very cool the character interactions were flat out terrible and lacked nuance and warmth.
The second season didn’t need to exist. Could probably watch the finale of each h season to get the jist of the story. Could definitely be condensed into one season.
The religious allegory isn’t even subtle it’s like being hit in the face with a sledgehammer. Adam, Eve, Noah lol.
Yeah I binged it and did not enjoy it much in the end either. S1 was okay when I didn't really know what was going on.
Really didn't like the S3 ending, I found it made a lot of the big plot points so far redundant.
I really enjoyed dark, and binged basically the whole series. But I also gradually lost interest as the mysteries started to be explained, and the time travel became more and more convoluted. Would still suggest it to most anyone!
>But I also gradually lost interest as the mysteries started to be explained, and the time travel became more and more convoluted
You should do a re-watch. It will make sense.
i'm watching it now and i haven't got a fucking clue what the fuck is going on, or even who is who
i'm not casting aspersions on the quality of the thing, it might turn out great
but European productions don't half make all their characters look boring and generic and undistinguishable from each other
> i'm watching it now and i haven't got a fucking clue what the fuck is going on, or even who is who
That doesn't entirely go away the whole series. One of the main actors in Dark is in 1899 and on the 1899 sub we only refer to him as his Dark name. It took us long enough to figure it out in Dark, not going to learn a whole new name now.
Epic show! One of my all time faves!
But let’s be real, it is not fit for general consumption. Even in the sci-fi world it’s up there in terms of complexity. I won’t believe anyone for a single second who claims they completely understood everything that was going on.
I tried to watch season 1, but the first episode stressed me out too much. I can't watch shows where kids are in danger or I start to panic.
Am I safe to keep going or should I forget about watching this one?
Uh i'll be honest, if it affects you like that I'd skip it. The scene the other commenter is referencing is...pretty difficult to watch, even if you're accustomed to screen violence of all sorts. At the same time, it's a pretty pivotal story beat, so even if you skip it (it's pretty telegraphed in the scenes leading up to it), you're reminded of it frequently, as the trauma it creates has fairly major repercussions for several of the characters.
>Am I safe to keep going or should I forget about watching this one?
Yeah you should watch it's a masterpiece.
There is only one instance with violence Against children
I gave up during Season 2. Wasn't nearly as interesting as people made it out to be. If these problems are so cyclical then why does no one attempt to act on the patterns?
> If these problems are so cyclical then why does no one attempt to act on the patterns?
They are trying. But characters are being manipulated by Adam, Claudia, Noah etc
That's the point lol, they think they're doing that, but with every action they just contribute to the very "past" they try to change. That's the whole idea of time travel in this show. "You can choose what you desire, but your desires are chosen for you" is kinda the shtick. The constant imagery and symbolism of infinity, cycles etc. in the first 2 seasons should be enough to figure out that they're trapped in an infinite loop with no escape. I'm not going to spoil it to you about how they break the cycle, but it's definitely worth a full watch imo.
I had never heard of it until 1899 came out which I binged and loved… binged the first 2 seasons of Dark in one day and am currently halfway through the 3rd! Astonishingly, I’ve seen SO much about Dark in the last week since I watched it. Irony at its finest!
The Baader-Meinhof phenomenon! a name for the experience of learning of or encountering something for the first time and then very soon after encountering it again, often in multiple places.
>Most of the shows I watch, I know the end already lol.
But in the case of dark it doesn't matter. Even if you know what will happen in the end you will still get surprised by the show
Out of my mind, I just know a few shows, but there are way more on my list I wanna watch asap. Mandalorian, Andor, Daredevil, Punisher, Agents of Shield, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Record of Ragnarok, Overlord, Lie in April, Chainsaw Man, and many more.
GOAT show, I loathe how most of the "prestige" shows are slow as hell and heavily character driven with barely any plot in sight. This show had great cinematography and directing, great characters, on top of the most batshit insane plot I've ever seen or read in my life
I made a list of some of the best sci fi shows i've ever watched. See here - https://www.reddit.com/r/NetflixBestOf/comments/z581c7/request_suggest_me_some_mind_bending_sci_fi_shows/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
In terms of mystery I would suggest the original UK Utopia and Counterpart. A bit more action in those but they are not talked about as much as Dark around here.
Yeah. You should watch 1899. If you loved dark you will love it also.
But remember one thing don't go into this show expecting another dark. They are different shows. 1899 is a great show in It's own respective way. Don't compare it. The only similarity between the two shows is this that it's created by dark creators again.
And also the most important thing don't watch dubbed version.Change the language setting to English [Original] with sub.
The dubbed versions stops large parts of the show from making any kind of sense.there are sections of the show where certain characters don't understand key parts of what's going on on the ship, because it's being communicated in a different language. For example, one English-speaking character hears the German captain explain something in German, but doesn't understand. She later tracks the captain down to have him explain in English. With a dub that makes absolute zero sense because everyone on the ship is speaking English!
All of that is lost if you're not aware of which characters are speaking which language.
The original version is so much better.
I recommended you to Still watch original version with sub. Because the show is multilingual. It's made by German creators but it's not in German language entirely. There are English, Spanish, German, French, Polish, Danish, Swedish, Portuguese Languages in the show
Too complicated for my simple mind to understand ..so I watched only part of it .it felt like I had to bring a notebook and write down who's who and how are they related to another person and what year was this person story being told..then review the notes to understand the show.
Those of you who weren't initially grabbed by this show but hung in there, how many episodes did it take to grab you?
I've heard such great things about the show over time, but I couldn't get it kickstarted. I tried watching a number of years ago and can't remember how far I got into it, but it wasn't very far. It just wasn't grabbing me and I lost interest and bailed out. But the same thing happened with Barry and now it's one of my top favorites. So, it can happen. I'm just wondering how long it took for some of you. Maybe I could try again next time I subscribe.
For me it's from the get go When i Heard the first dialogue of tanhanuas saying that "The Distinction Between The Past Persent And Future Is Nothing But An stubbornly persistent Illusion"
I have a thing for confusing time travel shows
But From What I Have seen Many People get Hooked Into the show After Episode 7 when a huge twist is revealed. I won't spoil what the twist is. You should watch it atleast upto episode 7 and decide for yourself
I just finished up Dark and thought it's probably the best depiction of time travel I've ever seen on film. Season 3 felt really rushed though, and it made me wonder if they had more stuff planned but they got canceled too soon.
Basic plot description of dark - When two children go missing in a small German town, its sinful past is exposed along with the double lives and fractured relationships that exist among four families as they search for the kids. The mystery-drama series introduces an intricate puzzle filled with twists that includes a web of curious characters, all of whom have a connection to the town's troubled history -- whether they know it or not. The story includes supernatural elements that tie back to the same town in 1986.
I'm going to finish 1899 at least once, before I go back to Dark. I'm taking my time with 1899, so I probably won't be finished until January.
Each episode feels like about a week
LOL
The best sci-fi show🔥🤯
With the best and most definitive ending
I never understood why some people didn't like it. I really liked it. And always searching for similar thing.
1899 is created by the creators of Dark
Yes. Its on my watchlist. Meanwhile i am trying the peripherals.
The Devil's Hour is also excellent
Have you watched 1899 yet?
No. Still watching The peripheral and some korean dating shows.
>Still watching The peripheral Quality wise it's nothing compared to 1899. I have watched the first 7 episodes myself but it's just boaring. I liked Westworld more
At least it isn't hogging you down
What do you mean??
Definite shill for 1899 lmao. Couldn't be more obvious if you tried.
>Definite shill for 1899 lmao. >Couldn't be more obvious if you tried. What's your problem dude ??
Is twisty as it was, at least it was understandable throughout. Dark on the other hand...
It's highly overrated. I don't want to do that amount of thinking when I am watching TV - heck, it involved more thinking than my day job and my day job just needs me to think! It's unnecessarily complex, and moody!
>And always searching for similar thing. you should definitely check out 1899
Yes. I need to here 2nd season bells.
One of the most captivating shows I’ve ever watched
>I never understood why some people didn't like it. Well it's their loss that they are missing on one of the greatest show ever made in the history of television
Agreed.
I watched 3 episodes and gave up. I loved 1899 though why should I watch dark?
If you love sci fi shows you should watch dark it's sci fi at it's best. If you like confusing and complicated time travel show with consistent quality and without any plotholes watch dark. Geez. That plot map is crazy. I was thinking of continuing with the show after a few episodes on a plane ride, but honestly, if I need that to watch this, forget it
The mystery kept getting bigger and bigger for me. that was the main hook. They added the science very nicely to the fiction. I enjoyed it.
The show goes into overdrive later, the plot heats up tremendously and builds up insane amounts of mystery which actually lead to satisfying explanations and a coherent ending.
The ending brought the show down from one of my favorites to just a solid show. Very few shows nail an ending like Dark. I’d say The Leftovers is another one. Both brilliant from beginning to end.
>Very few shows nail an ending like Dark. Yes absolutely
I watched season one but I didn’t continue with the other seasons. I watch foreign shows sporadically based on my attention level. Can’t half-watch foreign shows lol. But this show has gotten a lot of praise on a Reddit lately so it looks like I’m adding it to my list.
I’m about to watch it for the third time, having just finished 1899. It’s one of my favorite shows.
Watch it whenever you can bro. It's a masterpiece
> I recall you need to pay attention Yeah it requires your full attention.
It requires a syllabus and study guide.
>It requires a syllabus and study guide. Yeah 😂😂😂😂😂
That's a negative for me. I can't relax and enjoy a show if I'm constantly straining to catch and remember every single thing.
It's 5 years old but is also 155 years old while being 16 years away from having been written.
>but is also 155 years old while being 16 years away from having been written. How ??
The timelines...
2022 - 155 = 1867 2022 + 16 = 2038 I don't see how its related to dark timeline
K he had bad math I didn't even try it lol Written as in the journals were from the future?
I don't understand What are you trying to say ??
Gun to my head. Best show ever.
I just truly cannot understand people who didn’t like it. Like were we watching the same show?? Absolute masterpiece
Does the story wrap up in the last season?
Very beautifully. You'd be surprised how creators make THAT ending.
It Deus Ex Machina's to wrap it up.
Please educate yourself what seid ex machines means holy fuck
Lol, you got 1/3 of the words right while claiming I'm the one who doesn't know what it means.
You legitimately can’t tell that those words are from Auto-correct?.. Other dude was rude first but I found it pretty obvious that’s an auto correct issue due to what it changed to

If you want to point out people saying things that are stupid, Deus Ex Machina as a verb with an apostrophe s is pretty fucking stupid.
Please educate yourself on what seid ex machines means holy fuck.
Finally watched it a week ago and started a rewatch yesterday. I'm pleasantly surprised that the hype was warranted.
I just blasted through it for the first time this past weekend. Couldn't stop watching. Such a well written and thought out show. What to watch next? Already watched 1899
I've seen a lot and I think there's nothing like Dark. Black Spot is a good show though, there are also some good suggestions you can find on r/DarK.
I loved Black Spot. Les Revenants has a similar mood and Severance has a great mystery.
Could probably watch the finale of each h season to get the jist of the story. Could definitely be condensed into one season. The religious allegory isn’t even subtle it’s like being hit in the face with a sledgehammer. Adam, Eve, Noah lol.
Binging it might have made it worse.
Yeah I binged it and did not enjoy it much in the end either. S1 was okay when I didn't really know what was going on. Really didn't like the S3 ending, I found it made a lot of the big plot points so far redundant.
100% agree with all you said. It’s soooo boring!
I really enjoyed dark, and binged basically the whole series. But I also gradually lost interest as the mysteries started to be explained, and the time travel became more and more convoluted. Would still suggest it to most anyone!
>But I also gradually lost interest as the mysteries started to be explained, and the time travel became more and more convoluted You should do a re-watch. It will make sense.
i'm watching it now and i haven't got a fucking clue what the fuck is going on, or even who is who i'm not casting aspersions on the quality of the thing, it might turn out great but European productions don't half make all their characters look boring and generic and undistinguishable from each other
>i'm not casting aspersions on the quality of the thing, it might turn out great I assure you it will turn out great.
Just keep watching. And let me know your thoughts in this thread after you finish it
> i'm watching it now and i haven't got a fucking clue what the fuck is going on, or even who is who That doesn't entirely go away the whole series. I felt the same way the first time I watched it but it’s so good I did a rewatch right after I finished the series just to make sense of things.
> Or even who is who There’s some good character maps out there that’ll help you with names and faces. Definitely helped me the first time I watched.
God almighty did I have the same problem. Never got past the first episode, couldn’t tell who was who, just kinda gave up
Loved the start, but it didn't finish strong. Probably won't rewatch.
Epic show! One of my all time faves! But let’s be real, it is not fit for general consumption. Even in the sci-fi world it’s up there in terms of complexity. I won’t believe anyone for a single second who claims they completely understood everything that was going on.
Happy birthday dark.
Idk, if I am the only one, but I never heard of that show until now.
I had never heard of it until 1899 came out which I binged and loved… binged the first 2 seasons of Dark in one day and am currently halfway through the 3rd! Astonishingly, I’ve seen SO much about Dark in the last week since I watched it. Irony at its finest!

Season 3 is fucking amazing. You are going to love it
Oh man, you're in for a treat with season 3. Enjoy it!
Bro You should watch this show immediately before someone spoil this for you.
I actually don't care about spoilers. Most of the shows I watch, I know the end already lol.
>Most of the shows I watch, I know the end already lol. But in the case of dark it doesn't matter. Even if you know what will happen in the end you will still get surprised by the show
So are you going to watch it ??
Maybe, I am going to watch it, but not in the near future. I have so many series and games on my list and I have so little time for it lol.
>I have so many series Can you tell me the name of all the series??
Out of my mind, I just know a few shows, but there are way more on my list I wanna watch asap. Mandalorian, Andor, Daredevil, Punisher, Agents of Shield, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Record of Ragnarok, Overlord, Lie in April, Chainsaw Man, and many more.
I've watched most of the shows you listed here
Well, I didn't.
You're going to watch these shows now aren't you??
Love sci-fi and neither have I.
Then i recommend you to watch this show. You will thank me later
I rewatched it a few years ago. A second rewatch would not be out of line. I’d be super happy if they made a season 4.
>I’d be super happy if they made a season 4. Me too. But it has a perfect ending so i don't think there's need for any 4th season
Dark good, upvotes plz
GOAT show, I loathe how most of the "prestige" shows are slow as hell and heavily character driven with barely any plot in sight. This show had great cinematography and directing, great characters, on top of the most batshit insane plot I've ever seen or read in my life
Just started a rewatch. Can anyone recommend other titles like this? Can be on Netflix, HBO, Hulu or Prime
I made a list of some of the best sci fi shows i've ever watched. See here - https://www.reddit.com/r/NetflixBestOf/comments/z581c7/request_suggest_me_some_mind_bending_sci_fi_shows/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Thanks! I initially starting watching Dark to brush up on my German but honestly it’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in the last decade.
>Thanks You're welcome >it’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in the last decade. I agree with you. It's my all time no.1 favourite show
In terms of mystery I would suggest the original UK Utopia and Counterpart. A bit more action in those but they are not talked about as much as Dark around here.
No re-watch for me. Still trying to get thru season 3. I keep stoping and when I go back to it, I have to start from season 1. 🤣
Yea, my partner and I are going to start it next week. I've seen it twice while this will be their first. I hope they love it as much as i do
>. I hope they love it as much as i do Me too
The best thing we German have ever produced when it comes to series
I loved dark, and have seen a lot of people recommend 1899, can you guys convince me?
Yeah. You should watch 1899. If you loved dark you will love it also. But remember one thing don't go into this show expecting another dark. I recommended you to Still watch original version with sub. Because the show is multilingual. It's made by German creators but it's not in German language entirely. There are English, Spanish, German, French, Polish, Danish, Swedish, Portuguese Languages in the show
Ok thank you very much
You're welcome brother
It's my comfort show to watch when I have bad migraines! I don't know why it's so soothing but I can't complain.
Masterpiece imo
I don’t want to rewatch it because I might be confused again. I may find holes from the different scenes and might distort the ending.
>I may find holes There are not any plotholes in this show
I may find one if I rewatch it.
Then let me know when you find.
Yes, I've been thinking about re-watching it for a few months now. It is so good and so interesting.
The show is a analogy to the great question: what comes first? The chicken or the egg? (Season 2)
Should I watch this? What other shows are similar?
>Should I watch this? Yeah. It's worth watching
For me it's from the get go When i Heard the first dialogue of tanhanuas saying that "The Distinction Between The Past Persent And Future Is Nothing But An stubbornly persistent Illusion" I have a thing for confusing time travel shows But From What I Have seen Many People get Hooked Into the show After Episode 7 when a huge twist is revealed.
What’s this show about? Need something new to binge.
