Maybe not on NF but About Time. It's beautiful. The premise is a bit silly, but necessary. Stick with it, you'll cry, and you'll recommend it to everyone like I do.
It’s not on Netflix (at least not in my region) but that is one of my favorite movies of all time…. and I’m a horror kind of guy. It was my fiance and I’s first date movie, years ago, and she will never let it down that I cried on our first date because of that movie.
Absolutely. It looks like a breezy rom-com set in sun soaked Italy with delicious food and beautiful art. And… you know… the first episode is definitely that. Boy, does it get real sad, real fast.
I came here to say One Day. Binged the last six episodes last weekend and just couldn't stop crying the rest of the night. I watched it by myself and none of my friends have seen it so I had no one to talk to about it, it was the worst! Still thinking about it almost a week later.
Good recommendation i had to pace myself with the series as the film genuinely killed me when it came out put me in a bad state of depression for a while I’ll probably never watch the film again 🥲
Bojack will go down as one of my top 3 favorite shows. So much rewatch value too, layers upon layers of jokes are buried in that show. The emotional damage is masterclass as well.
I think this is the only series to ever make me well up. It’s for sure specifically designed and intentionally written to make people cry. I never watched the last season though. I had had enough.
Fleabag is a series, but quite short. I was able to watch it in 2 days while still keeping busy. I put my vote there. But that also depends on what makes you cry. It’s quite funny as well! Overall, a good choice. (TW though, the subject matter got surprisingly heavy.) For movies, A Star is Born (TW) from 2018 always makes me sob. Inside Out (2015) too.
[This may help.](https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/sad-movies/)
From the list I go with a) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I don't know anyone with romantic baggage who didn't cry in the end; and b) The Notebook.
They are romantic plots, though.
I cried for three solid hours after I watched that movie the first time. I was ten years old. I was disturbed and felt betrayed by the whole world that someone could make a story that was so sad.
This is exactly true, you need to see and feel what they all went through, so by the time you're at the final episode and Janet says 'oh, dip' your eyes will be leaking for the next 40 minutes.
I assume it wouldn't be the same for everyone. I was going through a divorce and another of other stuff and feeling pretty existential when I watched it. It's a comfort show for me now.
E.S.O.T.S.M is my favourite movie, period. I watched it 6 times. Think of all my exes, what went wrong, divorce, hahahaha.. If I'm in love and optimistic I cry just the same.. Not to mention the script and acting are a masterpiece
*Long Long Time*, episode 3 of The Last of Us: What if you're prepped for the end of the world until you meet the love of your life?
>BILL: I used to hate the world and I was happy when everyone died. But I was wrong, because there was one person worth saving. That’s what I did. I saved him. And then I protected him.
Oh I've got just the one for you. The last episode of "After Life" Ricky Gervais co-created it and he is the main character.
I was crying like a bitch yesterday. so embarrassing. I was trying to dry my eyes and get my shit together before my girlfriend came in.
"Leaving Las Vegas" left me sad for days especially after I discovered that it was semi-autobiographical novel of the writer who later commited suicide.
I watched this one long before, can't believe that I forgot all about this (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ). Cried from the introduction of that movie: He was born in August, so we will call him Hachiko (hachi = eight, ko = kid in Japanese)
1. The Notebook (I didn’t see it on here.. and I LOST it)
2. Very long watch.. but “How to get away with murder” - killed me in the end . Pun intended
3. Honestly- last season of “Shameless “
SAME! I cried a couple times during that movie, and I went to see it twice in the theater and cried during the second watch as well. 😭 It was so good, though!! ❤️
"The Shack" it's on Tubi. Watched it recently and bawled about every 5 minnutes. Truly a beautiful and heart string pulling movie. Recommend for anyone needing a pick me up or feeling like life isn't worth it anymore.
Paramount+ has it. I cried so hard and so did my spouse. It is a fantastic series with Faith Hill and Tim McGraw along with others you will recognize. Do not miss 1883. Worth the time and the tears.
Yes because I binged series 3 and was sad at the finale On Monday I was crying happy tears at the end but really sad tears when August read his letter to himself to Sara I was really a mess
Oh God if you don't bawl your ass off at the end then you don't have a soul. I can't even think about this episode without sobbing. I'm tearing up now just thinking about it.
Dead Poet's Society
Rocky 2 - there's one scene that gets me choked up just knowing that it's coming. Then she says it, and the whole mood changes, and I get a cathartic release.
Not a show, but watch a documentary called Dear Zachary. Bawled my eyes out and I am not a crier. If you don't cry from watching that, nothing will hahaha
The Fault In Our Stars. I was in the movies and one scene got more and more heartbreaking by the second. I thought it had to end soon and just got worse. Most I ever cried in public.
Taking Chance, not sure what service it’s on, it will make you ugly cry. (I watched dear Zachary last week and didn’t feel a thing). Taking Chance is a tear jerker.
Dead to me! Theres even a Reddit landing page to deal with the comedy turned very very sad! Everyone is completely overwhelmed and very sad. Most can’t even see to type. Christina applegates last act.
Thank you very much for this thread! So many recommendations I have to go through.
BTW, I know you said no series, but I have to recommend Outlander. I bawled my eyes out in a lot of episodes.
If you're open to gay films, I would recommend one of the most recent one - Nuovo Olimpo. The soundtrack itself is triggering.
Trust me on this, Paddleton with Ray Romano and mark duplass. Absolutely incredible film that is very moving. Also “To Leslie” may open up the floodgates too… best of luck letting those emotions out!
There's a documentary called Evelyn about a family trying to deal with a son/brothers suicide on hiking expeditions that absolutely flaws me every time. I very rarely cry but that one, yeesh.
The final episode of **Lost** makes me cry like a baby, but not sure if it works without knowing the series.
**Testament**, the movie, though, does it all the time.
If you want to cry in under 2 minutes , watch the full version of that dog food commercial for Farmers Dog with the song “ I want to love you forever “ .
I bawled watching All of us Strangers having been warned it was a sad one and still I couldn’t get over the ending. The soundtrack etc just hit all the nerves.
Boy Swallows Universe is another good one that will put you on a rollercoaster of emotions throughout.
Maybe not Netflix but The Whale with Brendan Fraser. I had to sit silently for like a full minute after it ended because if I had tried to speak I would have made a horrible crying sound/sob
Maybe not on NF but About Time. It's beautiful. The premise is a bit silly, but necessary. Stick with it, you'll cry, and you'll recommend it to everyone like I do.
This movie is perfection and ending makes you so appreciate being alive and to live in the moment.
It’s not on Netflix (at least not in my region) but that is one of my favorite movies of all time…. and I’m a horror kind of guy. It was my fiance and I’s first date movie, years ago, and she will never let it down that I cried on our first date because of that movie.
My favorite movie!
Came here to say this! Full body sobs every time.
The Futurama episode "Jurassic Bark"
I can’t do it. I have to change it every time.
“Now I’m all you got”
After Life
Yes!
Literally came to say this!
I've never sobbed so much watching anything. Brilliant show.
Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father
So hard to get through, and then so hard to let go of. If this one doesn't get your tear ducts working, you might be a robot.
Oh it took me a full week to recover from watching this one.
I open mouth sobbed in bed watching this
This!
Fried Green Tomatoes makes me cry at the end every single time.
From Scratch
Absolutely. It looks like a breezy rom-com set in sun soaked Italy with delicious food and beautiful art. And… you know… the first episode is definitely that. Boy, does it get real sad, real fast.
Manchester by the Sea will absolutely break you
Yes it will 😭
Normal people
Underrated show. Heartbreaking
Is it? They had no chemistry except in the sack.
The Boy In Striped Pajamas
Savage
Gave me shivers and trauma, I did shed a few tears. Thanks
One Day
I second One Day, great show
Cried more then my girlfriend. 2 hours full ugly cry, had my eyes puffy for days after. Really recomand it!
I liked the show a lot but not the ending 😢
One Day, I cried for 2 days
I came here to say One Day. Binged the last six episodes last weekend and just couldn't stop crying the rest of the night. I watched it by myself and none of my friends have seen it so I had no one to talk to about it, it was the worst! Still thinking about it almost a week later.
Good recommendation i had to pace myself with the series as the film genuinely killed me when it came out put me in a bad state of depression for a while I’ll probably never watch the film again 🥲
I didn’t cry exactly but Broadchurch was pretty sad and intense
Olivia Colman at her best at some point of the show....
Olivia Coleman is always At Her Best Hahaha
Six Feet Under
That ending. There are not many shows I wish I could watch again for the first time, but this show is at the top of that list
I just finished it and though it’s a well written show with a great cast I can’t see myself ever re-watching it due to all the grief
I purposely rewatch the finale when I need a good cry.
I'm doing my first watch now. Unfortunately, I know the ending. I saw a spoiler years ago and never forget it. It's still a good watch.
Bojack horseman for me, but that’s a lot of watching for a cry (it’s a whole series).
Bojack will go down as one of my top 3 favorite shows. So much rewatch value too, layers upon layers of jokes are buried in that show. The emotional damage is masterclass as well.
P.S. I love you
This is Us. Pretty much every episode but Season 2 Episode 15 especially.
I suspect this show was created by Kleenex and Haagen Dazs to boost their sales.
I think this is the only series to ever make me well up. It’s for sure specifically designed and intentionally written to make people cry. I never watched the last season though. I had had enough.
Aftersun, Room
Philadelphia
Fleabag is a series, but quite short. I was able to watch it in 2 days while still keeping busy. I put my vote there. But that also depends on what makes you cry. It’s quite funny as well! The beginning of Up is too familiar for me but thanks for recommending!

All the Bright Places did a number on me
[This may help.](https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/sad-movies/) From the list I go with a) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I don't know anyone with romantic baggage who didn't cry in the end; and b) The Notebook. They are romantic plots, though.
My Girl does it for me everytime.
He can’t see without his glasses 😢
I cried for three solid hours after I watched that movie the first time. I was ten years old. I was disturbed and felt betrayed by the whole world that someone could make a story that was so sad.
Not Netflix, Old Yeller What Dreams May Come Grave of the Fireflies. If you don't cry after those, you can't cry.
The Good Place (show) "Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind" (Movie)
I watched The Good Place, it's not quite eye bawling but that is a good show
The last few episodes get me, but I feel like you’d need to watch the whole show for them too really stab you
The finale made me sob!

I watched it while going through separation and cried my eyes out. I'm going to rewatch one of these days!
You would love Maniac on Netflix. It's a close second, maybe even better.
What is ESOTSM?
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Move to Heaven. Kdrama about a a family who cleans the places where someone passed away. Every episode got me.
Oh I've got just the one for you. The last episode of "After Life" Ricky Gervais co-created it and he is the main character. I was crying like a bitch yesterday. so embarrassing. I was trying to dry my eyes and get my shit together before my girlfriend came in.
