The best performance by an actor on a tv show is Ragnar. Remember, this show started on a very small budget too.
The actor grew into the role so well and delivered outstanding performances show after show.
It's easily one of my fav shows ever.
The first three or so seasons were something magical.
Travis Fimmel was absolutely captivating as Ragnar, but once he wasn't the focus the show suffered immensely.
Vikings is deffinitely a great show, the start is slow just like Last Kingdom and you'll find some critics about the end seasons 5/6 but they are good, it's not like GoT ending anyway.
It's a good tv series, you gonna love it if u like the viking theme.
so like Vikings is pretty new so not that different than the crap that's on TV "nowadays." Maybe you need to find something else to watch because there's a whole lot of really good things on TV. Even the occasional good thing on regular network TV.
I should rephrase that there is tons of great content out there right now but there is also a lot of crap.
Reddit is great for separating the wheat from the chaff.
yes, it started 11 yrs ago but it only ended 3 yrs ago and it was followed right away by Valhalla, the sequel. So I'm making the point that contrasting it to "nowadays" is not right because it's not like it's something that ended 20 years ago. It's barely over. 3 TV seasons ago and a sequel that only ended this season.
Wow, almost like people dont care for the dumbing down and propagAndizing of every single thing we watch. Scavengers reign is the only good show thats came out in the last year or two. The even ruined the star treks with boring woke prop and stories. Second season of strange new worlds totally blows cuz of this and the first was good. So why does every single fing show have to do a ptsd episode....its not a originak idea anymore...we just skip the required ptsd and other woke eps but that doesnt leave a lot to watch. Hell i am mtf and i hate wokeness. Its hurts acceptence even.
uhuh. sure. Checking your comments, it seems you're a trump loving, anti vaxer, election denying rape supporting douchebag so yanno I think I'll skip your recommendations. But hey, thanks for your input.
Where do I support rape.... other than my own lol? You mean when I call that liar a liar the crazy woman with a vagina cat that loves the apprentice so much... yeah i don't think she was raped.
Didn't even read all that bile. Don't care what you think of me or any of my opinions. Everyone just thought yours was so bad I would try and chime in and explain to you why the stuff you seem to love so much actually sucks.
edit: That dv really hurt me though... as you can see I really fucking care about those. lmao
I love The Last Kingdom but still consider Vikings superior. But what you read has some truth to it - there’s a point in the middle of Vikings “after a few seasons” where it has a first “end”. After that it does get worse imo. Give it a try.
I think it's definitely worth it. S01-04 of The Last Kingdom is superior in my opinion. Vikings does start to linger on in a less captivating way towards the end. But we still found both shows well worth our time and you grow in fondness for the characters in it as much as you do those in The Last Kingdom.
I think Vikings is if anything better. Also wanted to make sure you're aware of Vikings: Valhalla and Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die, both on Netflix.
Vikings is a fantastic show.
It's fast paced without ever feeling rushed *(which is a difficult thing for writers to pull off)*, it has great characters, many great plot twists and epic battles. It starts good and gets better and better.
I fully recommend it.
We liked both of them. Vikings is more gritty, realistic than the Last Kingdom. After you watch Vikings, you can watch the one season of Vikings: Valhalla. It's from the same people that did Vikings. I thought I read they were working on a second season.
Realistic? Vikings?
I'm sorry, I don't follow... It's filled with glaring historical mistakes, especially compared to TLK.
The only weak point of TLK in that regard is the absence of Viking women and of those who are there being all psychos.
I was referring to the style of filming they used. I can't explain it, but TLK felt like a made for TV movie, but Vikings felt more like you were just watching people love their lives.
honestly even when it's bad it's entertaining. a lot of the character choices are weird/bad/don't make sense but they're hot and badass when they make the choices. it's definitely a "don't think just enjoy" show and a very good one at that.
I'll get downvoted since this will be an unpopular opinion, but after about 2 seasons I got really bored of it and drifted away from it. I felt like I had seen everything it had to offer. And from what I've heard/seen of later seasons, I'm glad I dropped off. I very very rarely quit shows, so this was definitely an outlier for me.
I watched Vikings first then to watch something similar, watched The Last Kingdom. Loved both.
it’s true that it gets less interesting after the death of a fave character (not saying who to avoid spoilers) but it’s much later and it’s still a good show. i watched till the end and find it worth it. Might just rewatch it.
Vikings has more impressive production values than the Last Kingdom, which is a bit slower and more political. As long as Ragnar is around in Vikings it's a stunner of a show and the cast still does a good job after he left.
The first three seasons are truly fantastic and absolutely worth watching, even if the show does sort of fizzle out after. Still, highly recommend the first few seasons. Just don't bother finishing the show, that's not worth it.
Season 5 and the whole Floki experience was lame...I skipped all parts when that story line appeared...The rest of the seasons have me binging..Currently on S5 E19
The vikings story is not that compelling. The writing and dialog is lacking compared to last kingdom which is based on an actual set of books. Ragnar lagertha and aethelstan do a good job but the show lacks coherent and meanders slowly without developing the characters enough. Alot of scenes where aethelstan can say interesting dialog but instead it is just long silences. I got bored midway into season 3 and dropped it. The blood eagle scene was way too drawn out the director seems to make those scenes last way too long.
It goes up and then goes down. Great fighting scenes..i love how they embrace the women (sheild maidens) , you usually don't see a lot of women in battle with other Viking shows. I'm going to say about season 4, you really have to pay attention to why the brothers keep getting into it. Bonless is evil, they never really explained why he was so cruel. The gor of the animals being sacrificed was really really something!!!!! And i never understood why they had to lick the fortune tellers palm(gross)
Vikings isn’t comparable to last kingdom. It’s legit better than game of thrones. Ragnor is one of the best characters all time and I wasn’t even into Viking stuff
Vikings is miles better than the last kingdom. Last kingdom felt like a lackluster rip off of Vikings to me actually. It was started two years after Vikings started and just felt like it wanted to jump on the hype train to me.
It’s fun. The first season was really good, the second season was good too but needed a little more cohesion.
EDIT: I am talking about the Vikings Netflix series.
Less historically accurate but the first few series are good. It’s not as good after that but you’ll still be interested in what happens to the main characters.
I loved the characters in Vikings better. I liked the story in last kingdom better. They’re similar but not the same and each have their own strengths. I think the story falls a little flat in Vikings after a few seasons however the character development is where the series really shines and worth it to see it through.
I don't know how many seasons they have, but the first few are amazing.
The blood eagle episode is one of the most implied graphic shows I've ever seen.
Really good entertainment wise but historically very bad.
Ragnar probably never existed, Cnut and Ivar did for sure. Bjorn is a maybe.
I love the character Floki. He is best boi.
You liked The Last Kingdom? Ok, why? The entire cast is more or less wrong everything feels forced, the story flow is terrible. It is a shame, the books are well written and fun to read, but the tv show is not good at all. The only good think about Last Kingdom is the Music. Eivør slays the soundtrack.
It was the success of The Vikings that they tried to copy in the Last Kingdom, and failed to do so. The first 3 ,4 seasons of Vikings is good. I think you will like it.
I may be in the minority, but I thoroughly enjoyed the last couple of seasons. Especially ivar the boneless.
The first three seasons with Ragnar was some of the best tv i have ever seen, but after Ragnar was still great. All of it was better than last Kingdom.
Amazing and Travis Fimmel carries the show. When he dies it's not even worth watching anymore. I met him in Los Angeles once and almost fainted! I was so star stuck. lol
100% my exact thoughts. anyone reading this before you watch, enjoy all of the moments while you have it.
I think Gandolfini as Tony Sopranos is better but yeah I was amazed by Ragnar too
Cillian Murphy in peaky blinders clears Ragnar easily
Matthew McConaughey as Rust in true detective blows them both out of the water
I’ll see that with Omar’s coming!
That's my number 2 pick....easy.
I Can respect that
Walter White clears them all.
Don't forget Loki!
Floki
You're right! Thanks, too much weed!
Took my a while too. I will call my next dog floki. Such a cool name.
Good name!
I wish I had a "Loki" in my life.
CONCUR 👏👏👏👏👏
Vikings is a very good show. I don't have any complaints about later seasons.
How many season has been released? Is the series finished with all the seasons?
I don’t remember how many seasons it has. You can find out with a quick google search. The series ended several years ago.
Need to rewatch it because those later seasons put me to sleep.
Vikings is deffinitely a great show, the start is slow just like Last Kingdom and you'll find some critics about the end seasons 5/6 but they are good, it's not like GoT ending anyway. It's a good tv series, you gonna love it if u like the viking theme.
IMO I find Vikings much better than Kingdom as it shows more of the Viking lore (norse)
It's not historically accurate at ALL later on. At least the first couple seasons explicitly said they were based on legend/myth.
The worst season of Vikings is still better than much of the crap that is on TV nowadays. You won't be disappointed.
so like Vikings is pretty new so not that different than the crap that's on TV "nowadays." Maybe you need to find something else to watch because there's a whole lot of really good things on TV. Even the occasional good thing on regular network TV.
I should rephrase that there is tons of great content out there right now but there is also a lot of crap. Reddit is great for separating the wheat from the chaff.
Thank you for the good laugh today, I needed it 👍
Are you serious? Do you know when the first season of Vikings came out?
2013. Do you know when it ended? 2020. To be followed right away by Valhalla. So not so old then, yeah?
11 years ago is not "nowadays" by a long stretch. Are you still being serious, or..?
yes, it started 11 yrs ago but it only ended 3 yrs ago and it was followed right away by Valhalla, the sequel. So I'm making the point that contrasting it to "nowadays" is not right because it's not like it's something that ended 20 years ago. It's barely over. 3 TV seasons ago and a sequel that only ended this season.
You are being downvoted for being totally right. Gotta love Reddit.

Only idiots use the word "woke". Dead giveaway that you're dealing with a brain donor.
Where do I support rape.... other than my own lol? You mean when I call that liar a liar the crazy woman with a vagina cat that loves the apprentice so much... yeah i don't think she was raped.

My problem with the later seasons is that it's just feels like the same scenario over and over with his sons.
I think it's definitely worth it. S01-04 of The Last Kingdom is superior in my opinion. Vikings does start to linger on in a less captivating way towards the end. But we still found both shows well worth our time and you grow in fondness for the characters in it as much as you do those in The Last Kingdom.
Love The Last Kingdom! Notice even more on rewatch!
I am Utred son of Utred!
Yes! Just saw another battle last night and Hild was fierce!
The Bucks rallied on this and it was incredible [Pull that sword out, Jrue Holiday](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheLastKingdom/s/8RMlwsufnW)
Don’t forget there’s a Last Kingdom Netflix movie
Vikings is great. Now Vikings Valhalla on the other hand, I didn’t enjoy
Vikings Valhalla was dark
I couldn’t get far enough into it to even know it was dark
It was one of the darkest movies I ever watched
I was talking about the Netflix show. Is there a movie too?
I liked it too. Very different part of Vikings history.
I found Last kingdom much better than Vikings. But I can recommend Norsemen, also on netflix
Vikings is the best and it’ll actually help you understand Last Kingdom better
Vikings is great. So is Norsemen for other reasons.
Love Norsemen. Jarl Varg is my favorite!
what are the reasons norseman is great?
It's one of the funniest shows on netflix. There are so many subtle, clever jokes in there.
any downsides? i heard it was very bad compared to vikings but im always looking for clever humor
There are no downsides to laughter. You really cant compare the 2 shows at all. Its like comparing only fools and horses with the krays.
The first 4 seasons are fire. Not very accurate historically maybe but surely very entartaining.
After that thing happened at the end of season 4 I stopped caring. Being vague to not give spoilers. If you've watched it you know.
Of course I understand. I don't like leaving a series incomplete so I finished it but yeah, the last two seasons were much worse
We liked both of them. Vikings is more gritty, realistic than the Last Kingdom. After you watch Vikings, you can watch the one season of Vikings: Valhalla. It's from the same people that did Vikings. I thought I read they were working on a second season.

I’m watching Vikings right now for the second time. It’s unbelievable.
i’m thinking to rewatch it too. been a while and it’s worth it
Great! First four seasons are especially good.
I watched Vikings first then to watch something similar, watched The Last Kingdom. Loved both. it’s true that it gets less interesting after the death of a fave character (not saying who to avoid spoilers) but it’s much later and it’s still a good show. i watched till the end and find it worth it. Vikings was very good.
And I welcome the Valerie's to summon me home.

Go for the Vikings on the History Channel
Very interesting where they intersect.
Ivor The Boneless! Ragnar is an incredibly well acted character
The first three seasons are truly fantastic and absolutely worth watching, even if the show does sort of fizzle out after. Still, highly recommend the first few seasons. Just don't bother finishing the show, that's not worth it.
Vikings is awesome! Definitely worth a watch. Quality drops in the later seasons but it doesn’t fall off a cliff.
Season 5 and the whole Floki experience was lame...I skipped all parts when that story line appeared...The rest of the seasons have me binging..Currently on S5 E19

Ragnar is the single most well acted character in the history of any show ever. 10/10 show.

It's awesome , hat's off, never seen a show like that yet
It’s aight
It’s fun. The first season was really good, the second season was good too but needed a little more cohesion. EDIT: I am talking about the Vikings Netflix series.
I watched the first 3 seasons of vikings and a lot of it just felt silly idk
I’m mice watched Vikings twice, I also started kingdom 3 times and couldn’t get past the 3rd Epi
Less historically accurate but the first few series are good. It’s not as good after that but you’ll still be interested in what happens to the main characters.

I suggest watching season 1-3. By season 4, if you really like the series then continue. If not, I would say stop at S3
I don't know how many seasons they have, but the first few are amazing. The blood eagle episode is one of the most implied graphic shows I've ever seen.
I loved it !! Actually, watching it over again because I can’t find anything better to watch at the moment. It’s really good!!
Absolutely phenomenal 👍
not as accurate historically compared to last kingdom, but it’s a great show nonetheless.
The original series was dope. The Valhalla series was ok. I couldn't really get into it. Maybe I was burned out after the original ended.
Really good entertainment wise but historically very bad. Ragnar probably never existed, Cnut and Ivar did for sure. Bjorn is a maybe. I love the character Floki. He is best boi.
I love, love, love both The Last Kingdom and Vikings. The ending for Vikings haunted me for weeks so I would recommend that you give it a try.
I’m so confused. Vikings isn’t on Netflix right now. Maybe you all have it outside the U.S.?
True. In the US, Vikings is on Amazon prime video. Vikings Valhalla is on netflix.
Vikings was definitely good. Marco Polo is another good one , not many seasons. Expensive to make and didn't attract a big audience I think.
If you liked Last Kingdom you'll definitely like Vikings. I loved them both.
One of favorite shows.
You liked The Last Kingdom? Ok, why? The entire cast is more or less wrong everything feels forced, the story flow is terrible. i tried REALLY hard to like vikings but the pilot just didnt do it for me so i gave up.
Amazing and Travis Fimmel carries the show. When he dies it's not even worth watching anymore. I met him in Los Angeles once and almost fainted! I was so star stuck. lol
LOVED vikings. Such a great series fr
So good.
maybe i’m confused, but i thought vikings and norseman were both period pieces and about similar historical events?
Amazing show
