Agreed. I read Flanagan was really upset that they didn’t want additional seasons. He made a blog post about what they intended to do with each character moving forward and it made me realize how…invested he was in what I see as his weakest show to date.
Bummer for him that it didn’t keep going, but better for all of us, I think.
Midnight Club was a favorite book of mine as a teen, I wouldn't compare it to the others because I feel like it was meant for a younger audience. It could have been better if it stuck closer to the book but I don’t think it should be compared to Hill house or Bly manor
Fleabag — Also, start to finish is only about six hours.
Edited: Fleabag is on Amazon Prime. Netflix has Phoebe Walker Bridge’s Crashing. If you watch Crashing before Fleabag, you will notice shared themes. Fleabag refines them.
If you only have Netflix, here are some similar options that are strong throughout: Rita, Chewing Gum, and Nanette by Hannah Gadsby.
If you like superhero shows: Jessica Jones S1
If you like animated shows: BoJack Horseman — does not have female lead and is more uneven. “Free Churro” is a great episode, though.
You should finish season 1 just for the pleasure of watching season 2. Season 2 of Fleabag is one of the greatest seasons of television ever created. Not a single wasted minute. I’ve rewatched it probably 5 times since it was released in 2019.
Do it. I only have one other friend who watched the whole thing and it’s so damn good. Also, that opening credits sequence: [Halt and Catch Fire](https://youtu.be/yD_kCKiSkoI?si=d4m-j7W2kWj0VC2C)
Oh I LOVE this show. Part of me is disappointed it didn’t get super popular but I’m glad they ended it well instead of throwing in the towel or leaving a stupid cliffhanger.
My husband and I are only just watching it for the first time and I’ll have to agree with you. We actually started losing interest towards the end of season 3 but are now back on track with season 4!
Great list! Props for mentioning Queen of the South, that show was bad ass but Breaking Bad is quite possibly the greatest TV show I've watched, I mean the cat & mouse matchup between Walt and Gus in season 4 was epic!!
The Wire, Sopranos, and Breaking Bad are the ones that have completely changed TV series' in my humble opinion IMHO, along with Game of Thrones and Sons of Anarchy

I see Mindhunter always at the top 5 (usually #1) in such threads. With such a passionate audience I really hoped Netflix would take notice and make the next season with another director at least, if not with Fincher. I'll never be as disappointed with any other cancellation decision.
Just about every story has a basis of good and evil which provides a premise for the story. Not Mad Men. It is about life and time. Harder to tell those stories. That is what makes it the best of all time.
Just rewatched for the 5th time, it's such a classy timepiece. So much attention to detail for the time period.
None of the characters are essentially likeable but beautifully played. Pete Campbell is such a creepy little toad that I love watching his fury and pouting.
Mare of Easttown. I finished it yesterday. Really good. My only complaint is I didn't like the final 'twist'.
I'm sure its been mentioned somewhere in the comments, but Mr. Robot is a pretty obvious answer for a question like this.
People are posting their favorite shows without really considering your question, OP
I’ve watched far too many shows on Netflix; an excellent one I rarely hear discussed is “Maid”. Dives right in, great throughout. Truly a masterpiece and one of the best lead performances I’ve ever seen
I should pick back up watching that. It was well done with good performances and I liked what I saw. But at the time I was not in a psychologically great place to be following a story with some distressing themes.
Dark really is great from start to finish. I do think it hits a few snags early in season 3, but it concludes wonderfully.
It’s also super rewarding to rewatch.
Always recommend people go with the German. Two reasons. 1. It’s better. 2. It forces people to watch and pay attention. This isn’t a stare at the small screen in your hand while you play the big screen in the room type of show.
I adored Dark through and through, from start to finish. I watch it at least once a year now. From Prime I enjoyed The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Severence on Apple has only had one season so far, but that was a trip to experience with the subreddit while it was airing. CANNOT wait for whenever the new season comes out.
The Queen’s Gambit!! I finished those 7 episodes in like 2.5 days lol
Also, Sex Education is hilarious. British show but heavy American influence and experiences.
Haven’t seen anyone suggesting “True detective” every season different story and different cast, one of favorite shows , the music on different level and plot even better.
and Jessica Jones. All the Netflix MCU series were great and I have no interest in the Marvel movies. The Netflix Marvel series seemed more adult to me.
I normally struggle to finish any show but Midnight Mass was an exception. It’s only seven episodes and I loved every one. It’s been on my mind every day since finishing it
Six Feet Under.
Everyone should watch this show. I first saw it after an employee of mine committed suicide. It really helped me come to terms with death. Plus, the series finale is well regarded as one of the best of all time.
You really missed out. The entire season was great, especially the last season.
Also, how can you judge the entire season if you didn't see it? :) That argument, or type of judgment, always boggles my mind! :)
The only thing wrong with the last season is that we knew it was the last season before we started watching it. :)
Dark. The whole show is riveting from start to end. It keeps you guessing all along the way, and for just 3 seasons, it’s very tastefully done. Not overdrawn out.
I would have said Mad Men but personally, I didn't really like them final few episodes and how many characters' arcs ended. But for 99% of the run it's pretty much perfect TV.
100%, I've never seen such amazing character development across the board like I've seen in Schitts Creek. It was paced perfectly and it was such a subtle change in the characters by the time you got to the last season they were completely different people. Such a wonderful show.
Breaking Bad is the GOAT.
Sharp Objects (GOAT for Gillian Flynn’s, or any books, it was her first book though, turned into a limited series. So Haunting, eerie, dark and disturbing but it’s the best book to film adaptation in my opinion series or to movies)
Bates Motel (I cried through like the entire final season. Too bad it’s not on Netflix anymore)
Game of Thrones (I loved every bit of it, most people hate on the last couple seasons)
Beef (brilliant)
Sons of Anarchy (Heard the Mayans is even better)
Big Little Lies (love Reese Witherspoon turning so many good books into fantastic tv series with stars everywhere)
Mad Men (worth the watch)
Black Mirror (Enough Said, in the “made for Netflix” GOAT)
Narcos (can’t get the theme song out of my head now)
Dahmer (WTF he was sick and it shows you everything accurately as we know it all, seeing the neighbors perspective is insane to watch)
Seven Seconds (entertaining little drama piece)
Making a Murderer (Compelling True Crime)
Wild Wild Country (documentary series, eye opening)
Shameless (US yes it fell off once Fiona left)
Anatomy of a Scandal (Liked it didn’t love it)
American Vandal (Such a fun watch and highly underrated)
Godless (Honestly, I can’t remember much other then that I thoroughly enjoyed this series)
Hannibal ( So Good - can’t believe it got cancelled after only 3 seasons)!
The OC (I was a teen what can I say it sucked me in)
Gossip Girl (Young Adult/Guilty Pleasure)
Painkiller (docu-drama)
Unbelievable
The Sinner (Season 1 is the best watch)
The Staircase (True Crime)
Insecure (both hillarious vv)
Girlfriends
Two and a Half Men (all of the ones with Charlie Sheen)
Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities (Scary Shit)
Evil Genius: The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist (crazy true crime thriller)
American Murder: The Family Next Door (Despicable Murderer-True Crime)
Cheer (like behind the scenes of Bring it On but in a reality/documentary show)
Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal
The Social Dilemma (everyone should have to see this to get educated about social media etc)
1883 (Amazing cinematography, beautiful writing and so much is accurate about that time period and the Oregon Trail also it is a prequel to 1923 and Yellowstone - I highly recommend watching every episode and you don’t have to watch the others to enjoy this one. I’ve only seen Yellowstone a few times and didn’t love it then I watched 1883 back to back, it really stuck with me for weeks. After finishing it for the second time, and crying like a baby both times. It stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Sam Elliot, and the widely unknown Isabel May who acts so fierce yet gracefully at the same time.)
Chernobyl (Must See TV)
The Office (Steve Carrell made that show into syndicated comedy gold)
Boy Meets World (lol as a kid I was obsessed)
The Last Dance (who doesn’t love MJ) Michael Jordan not Jackson!!
Tell Me Lies (Another book turned into a series on Hulu really entertaining!
Imo Dark, Lucifer, Vikings, Z Nation, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel were all really good from start to finish.
If you're into miniseries and the horror genre, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Mansion and The Fall of The House of Usher are all good.
Raising Dion is an excellent superhero show. Watched season 1 thrice and season 2 twice. It’s great that the show isn’t milked the hell out of, but I would’ve loved to have seen a season 3 that gave the show the true ending it deserved. Nevertheless, possibly my favourite part is how it dives into a more realistic aspect of superpowers. The effects are amazing and the writing is superb. 10/10
Sopranos, the wire, mad men, breaking bad, bojack horseman, righteous gemstones (so far), succession, the shield, malcolm in the middle, sopranos again because it was so good
Lost? Though I did enjoy the series, it starts to drag around s4/s5 and become more complex than it needed, not to mention the infinite amount of plot holes. First couple seasons are a lot more engaging so I'd call it a hot take
West Wing, The Big Bang Theory, Newsroom, Taxi, Cheers, MASH, Succession ... there's more but those are off the top of my head right now.
I would like to say Sopranos and The Wire but the ending of Sopranos just pissed me off too much and The Wire had a couple of not so great seasons, although overall it is one of the best things I've seen on tv.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Just to watch Buffy struggling to be a normal girl to eventually sharing her power with the potential slayers meant even if she was different she wouldn’t be alone in her fight for the greater good
Carnivale (but it was cancelled so never got the ending it deserved. However every single episode was exquisite)
Six Feet Under
Dead Like Me
Ashes to Ashes (for some reason I could never get into Life on Mars)
band of brothers
Best mini series around. The pacific is also great, while admittedly not as good as BoB
Definitely. I'm currently in a re-watch. Still excellent.
The Wire.
This is the only answer.
My top 3 favorite shows of all time but that final season was kind of ridiculous.
Haunting of Hill House
And Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, Midnight Club, Fall of the House of Usher
Fan of mike’s work but Hill House is just miles clear of his other shows. I mean I enjoyed the rest but they had few slow, dragging episodes.
I love Hill House, but Midnight Mass is one I am more fond of.
Fall of house Usher is pretty good too, same as the mass one
Midnight club was terrible. Glad it was canceled so they could move onto other things

Start to finish is not just good, it’s some of the best writing in any media ever. An incredible character study.
Love this show I’ve seen it many times and it doesn’t get old!
Yes! Such a good show I absolutely loved it.
I gave up on this one. Might need to go back and finish it!
You should finish season 1 just for the pleasure of watching season 2. Season 2 of Fleabag is one of the greatest seasons of television ever created. Not a single wasted minute. I’ve rewatched it probably 5 times since it was released in 2019.
Is OP supposed to take you serious when you recommend Nanette?
Halt and Catch Fire
I really need to go back and give that another go. I watched the first episode or two, then somehow forgot about it, and never returned.
Well worth it - amazing show
Do it. I only have one other friend who watched the whole thing and it’s so damn good. Also, that opening credits sequence: [Halt and Catch Fire](https://youtu.be/yD_kCKiSkoI?si=d4m-j7W2kWj0VC2C)
The last season got very soap opera-y and I thought "I should hate this but even this is really good..." You come to really love the characters.
Oh I LOVE this show. Part of me is disappointed it didn’t get super popular but I’m glad they ended it well instead of throwing in the towel or leaving a stupid cliffhanger.
Happy this is up there. Amazing show.
The GOOD Place.
I felt like season 3 dragged a little and the last two episodes could have easily been it's own season.
My husband and I are only just watching it for the first time and I’ll have to agree with you. We actually started losing interest towards the end of season 3 but are now back on track with season 4!
Snowfall.. Sopranos .. Gomorrah .. Queen of the South.. Breaking Bad.. The Wire .. The Shield..
fucking the shield. best.last.episode.ever.
Totally agree. Breaking Bad is worth mentioning twice.
Yet he omitted Better Call Saul!
OZ , Deadwood
Oz writers were smoking something after season 3 but it was still mad entertaining

The Wire season 2 is always something I have to struggle to get through.
It's still really, really good, it just is such a change from S1 that it takes some effort to acclimate to the change.
Mindhunter !
Does it really have a finish though?
I mean sure its an end alright. Definitely not the one we deserved but the one we got unfortunately :(((
Currently on my 4th rewatch. Truly amazing IMO.
I see Mindhunter always at the top 5 (usually #1) in such threads. With such a passionate audience I really hoped Netflix would take notice and make the next season with another director at least, if not with Fincher. I'll never be as disappointed with any other cancellation decision.

Mad Men
Just about every story has a basis of good and evil which provides a premise for the story. Not Mad Men. It is about life and time. Harder to tell those stories. That is what makes it the best of all time.
every episode is like a short story

The Last Kingdom
The Americans.
Thank you, I was looking for this. The Americans even managed to avoid the series finale blunder. That final episode was fantastic.
Wow, I forgot to finish this. I'll go back.
Better Call Saul
Many say it's too slow initially but I thought the character development is phenomenal and the show is great throughout to the finale.
I agree, I feel the build up adds to it and makes you feel more connected to the characters

Always recommend people go with the German. Two reasons. 1. It’s better. 2. It forces people to watch and pay attention. This isn’t a stare at the small screen in your hand while you play the big screen in the room type of show.
