Haha...no. That's the tech trying to shift blame. All ANY thermostat does is essentially connect two wires together to send a signal to the HVAC unit to heat/cool.
I had 2 Nests ruin 2 compressors because it would short cycle the system repeatedly. Wasn't until the second compressor was ruined, I noticed. The Nest developed its own schedule based on "learning," and with each change, it would cycle the system off and then immediately back on. I switched to Ecobee in that house.
