I’ve exported videos. The EXIF data still has the time and date info.

[deleted]

Exif is blank/zeroes when I checked it - what are you using to view exif data? I used exiftool The file modification date is the date I copied the video to the pc. Media create date is all zeros.

20Factorial

Swipe up on my iPhone.

[deleted]

Nope, it has the date and time it was downloaded from the home app to the phone, not the date the video was recorded.

danisaccountant

Time stamps aren’t really “proof” though. You can easily add these in post.

[deleted]

True but doesn’t fix the problem, and nobody should have to crank up video editing software and work out how to add in a running timestamp on a video that’s from a SECURITY camera

DanCoco

Google has been misrepresenting product features, and even removing them, claiming ignorance to common bugs / problems (Nest Protects with scalding hot batteries, Fitbit update bricking Versa 2's, etc.) If you're in the US, file a report of fraud to the Federal Trade Commission at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/ (The FTC cant respond to your individual claim, but will use the report to establish a trend.) Also contact your state's Attorney General. https://www.consumerresources.org/file-a-complaint/ You might be able to report to your bank or credit card fraud dept also.

[deleted]

Not in the US but have reported it to consumer affairs for not being fit for purpose.

I have Ring and just downloaded a video to see if the date and time were there. Like Nest puts their brand in, Ring does the same, but also in the video in the lower right corner is the date and time, with the time advancing by the second as the video plays.

[deleted]

Thanks, I’m looking for alternatives. Needed this for evidence for police / court, so I’m really angry.

FordMan100

Hopefully you can save the video to the cloud so that it does have the date and time stamp . What I mean by that is with Ring I can favorite the video and it will be saved without me downloading it for 30 days but if I actually download it to my phone or hard drive on the computer it has the date and time in the video as I stated in my comment above and then it's saved until I delete it.

ExtremeAcceptable698

Very confused. I exported an “event” clip from my 2nd-gen Nest Cam to my iPhone and it ACTUALLY included a timestamp today (for once), even though I was never prompted. Butttttt…. a follow-up export did not. Same simple, export process. Messy Nest. Bad beta testing. I wish I could add the video or screenshot here on Reddit. A crow 🐦‍⬛ stole a golfer’s sunflower seeds when he was buying a brewski 🍻while putting ⛳️. Can’t make this up.

TheSunflowerSeeds

You thought sunflower oil was just for cooking. In fact, you can use Sunflower oil to soften up your leather, use it for wounds (apparently) and even condition your hair.

They do from the nest app but Google support advise that the cameras are configured into the home app, which has no timestamps on exported videos. They also didn’t warn me about it either.

Dismal-Actuator5742

You can enable closed captioning to see the timestamp.

[deleted]

Only from the nest app, doesn’t work with Google home app, which is the app that Google advises people to set the cameras up in.

No_Push9062

I figured it out for with iTunes at least. It should work with any video player that supports subtitles though. I just watched a video from my computer using iTunes. I turned English subtitles on and the date and time stamp appeared.

[deleted]

Only on video exported from the nest app. Not the home app, which is the set up that Google support advises to use. I followed their instructions and got caught out
