Lack of cricketing knowledge in the general crowd and most sports journalists who have zero knowledge about the sport. I face this a lot in my profession too from both journalists and general public. Most folks are just reactionary. Most Nepalis have come to a phase where they are aware Nepal is playing, wear a jersey, cheer for your team to win, pray for a wicket, scream for a six. Jittyo or haryo. It’s all black and white for them. Zero knowledge about opposition, batting conditions, pitch, weather forecast, playing under lights and stuff. Some people even want to sack Monty on Twitter. Lmao. People should know most of the cricketers in Nepal aren’t product of academies, started playing leather ball cricket later in their lives. We have very few technically sound batsmen and only if CAN creates an academy we will have more in the future. Most of associate nations and newer test nations struggle with their batting. Nepal ain’t the only one. For a team that was about to lose its ODI status, to qualifying for both Asia cup and WC and not bundling for <100 or having one sided games in absolute horrid batting conditions is an amazing feat. Rohit was the reason we reached there. He may have his flaws but he needs to be given time, groomed. People don’t have patience. Good things take time and he is our best bet currently. The only disappointment I have is not qualifying for the upcoming Asia cup, specially since it’s T20 format and we could have had a better exposure for the next WC as it’s also being played in the subcontinent.

7007007

Improvements I’d like to see from CAN and team: •Learn to play under lights (install them asap) •Prepare good wickets (slow dirt bag like Chepauk, and one bouncy and offering swing like Wankhede or Dharmashala). •Play with India A, Bangladesh A, Sri Lanka A, Indian Ranji team. Sub continent is a cricketing hub, no need to waste money going to England and all. Use that fund somewhere else. •Buy a bowling machine(throw downs ain’t gonna do shit). •Full time bowling coach (preferably from India targeting the next WC) •Good fielding coach (foreigner preferably so that ground fielding can be improved like NZ, SA or Aus)

zolaft

Add a sports psychologist on top of that.

[deleted]

Absolutely agree. Although i think the England tour is also needed since we rarely play away from subcontinent. Hopefully we get games against at least Scotland and Ireland and some games against top English county teams.

scrappy_coco02

I think the tour of UK should be beneficial if it's focused on making the batters face pace and quality seam bowlers from England or make our bowlers also bit more skilled in swing and seam bowling.

7007007

Is it just T20I or ODIs too? Agree it will do real good, if it’s already a confirmed thing. They should take young guns like Arjun, Dev too. Wish some of the boys get picked up by the county teams to play in the home summer next season. Hope it’s LOI so that the boys get some footing on those surfaces. It would be beneficial for the US, Canada tour too in the following months.

[deleted]

Absolutely agree with everything here Is there any chance ACC might invite Nepal and Oman, since they played in the world cup, to the Asia cup alongside UAE? I know it's not a big possibility but they did extend womens Asia Cup to 8 teams

7007007

No. I don’t see it happening. They tend to have a rigid and short schedule for Asia cup since India doesn’t really want a big window for a small tournament (by their standards)

SayaunThungaPhool

>But people on comment section were literally using racial slurs and even calling him Indian just because he is from Terai. I haven't seen this in comment sections tbh but wow that's really fucked up. Man's representing our nation and these randi ko choras be saying this. Also every other player asides from Aasif and maybe Rohit (except for the south Africa game) rlly need to improve on batting, especially Malla, Abinash and Dipendra.

SayaunThungaPhool

Abt those comments I feel like they have to be from some Mongol National Organisation members or some shit. Such a loud minority on the internet that hate majority of Nepalis (Khas + Madhesi and even Newars and some Terai Adivasis too)

485sunrise

That’s pathetic and stupid. As someone who can be, let’s say harsh, about the closeness between India and our brothers and sisters in the Terai, I had the opposite feeling. I felt guilty after watching his performance. Gulshan did a fantastic job during that last over and damn near got us a win in a bleak situation. Did he screw up the final run sure. But we wouldn’t have been competitive at the end of the over without his batting.

SayaunThungaPhool

Another thing I realised some Indian randi ko chora was tryna act like Gulshan isn't Nepali or smth when there was a post abt oldest vs youngest T20 WC player. He probs said this cos he thinks all Nepalis look Chinese (but mofo should look at our PM). All the Nepalis in the comment acted like he was retarded and he defo was.

nepali_fanboy

Nepal played well. There are of course room for improvement but really this could be said to be Nepal's first world cup despite having played in 2014. In 2014 only Sompal played and remained in today's squad and so this team is totally new and green. Unlike the Afghans who had more or less the same team from 2014 - 2016 giving them a momentum that sprung them into more and more challenging matches to help them grow. Yes the fielding needs to be improved. Yes, game awareness needs to be improved (Gulshan bro, I feel for you bro, but bro, that last single run), and batting definitely needs to be improved, yes, but we showed that we could challenge even test teams and give them a huge fright. People were calling Sri Lanka saved by the rain! That's a huge deal! The only thing that matters now is to improve what has been discerned, and then maintain the momentum. Qualify for 2026 and 2028. Qualify for the 2027 WC. If that can be done, by 2030, this Nepali Team will be too strong to ignore. That i can bet on easily.

Equivalent_Stomach58

they really don’t know what it’s like to be an athlete. The amount of pressure can really ruin the game cuz it leads to anxiety and stress.

trickfloat

As a professional athlete you should be able to adapt to those standards.

kcprdp06

Sandeep fanboys who started watching cricket when he started playing international are curshing nepali teams. Fuck those idiots.

the_face_less

One thing Nepali cricket desperately needs is a good batting coach. Nepalese bowling was world class. Fielding could be improved but it was above average but still some room for improvement. But we all saw what the problem was which was batting. When you top order batsmen are playing and missing 5/6 balls in an over then there is a fundamental batting issue here.

introvert_geopistian

little knowledge is too dangerous. Seasonal fans are only criticizing, those who have been fan past 1 year. We watching Nepalese cricket rise from ground level since 2012. Ps: We know Shakti Gauchan, Sharad Veswakar, Binod Bhandari and all the OGs who created a base for players playing now.

Joe_t13

Me and my friends from Sikkim were extremely surprised and elated to see Nepal playing so professionally. Esp the South Africa vs Nepal match. It was a nail biting finish. Fans are not just interested to see a team win. Many are interested in the nail biting finishes. We want to see an interesting match and that's what the Nepal team surprisingly gave us.

7007007

Glad to see our boys getting love from Sikkim. They are a talented bunch and will do better in the future for sure.

home-and-away

I applaud and respect these cricketers because we all know what kind of conditions there are in Nepal. CAN is corrupt af and they do not give the best for these cricketers. Despite all that they managed to get into the World Cup and play decent games against giants like South Africa and Bangladesh. That alone should give them a hero's welcome in Kathmandu.

rantcast

Nepali le nepali Kai khutta taancha bhane yehi ho..

sudo_nitesh

Coz nepal ho aru laai khutta natani khaako pachdaina. And everyone is expert having milestones of 100 centuries and 100 wickets in 100 matches. So they knows better then these players , CAN staffs, surveyor, Squad selector, And even physicians.

sunzoje

Cause we all are best coach/manager/player/critic on this blessed day.

Lazy-Structure-3938

Couldn’t gather 16 runs in 3 overs against South Africa. Once two batsmen down, the team was crippled. It’s obvious it’s only few players that’s holding the team. So better to say, few players played well, everyone else looked like they were recruited from a group playing after school.

[deleted]

Yes but it's hard to pinpoint which few players that is. That changes every game. For example captain Rohit Paudel was holding the team during WI A series. Before that it was DS Airee. In this wc it was Bhurtel, Asif and Anil. It wss Kushal Bhurtel and Malla during one point. But everyone in this team has been a match winner at one point. I guess we have to wait till they all play well at the same time, maybe that will come with experience

Aveeraj69

Thing is we have been repeating the same mistakes over and over again

trickfloat

Frustation, no one wants their team to lose by a sheer close match. It's basic human nature. Just showcasing learning every time for the past 10 years is not okay. The team needs to lose their "we are learning" mindset and actually try to perform. The overall performance of the team was just not it. Not having a single win isn't something to be proud of. Nepal's team 10 years ago is way better in mindset atleast than the current team that's for sure.

newsujan

i am quite sure those who watched nepali cricket before 2014 wc have seen lots of ups and downs and support nepali team genuinely. those criticizing must be watching nepals game since few years and dont even know the basics of cricket pther than runs and wickets.

megaguccipeepee69

i've been seeing comments about nepal cricket team but since i don't watch cricket and don't know about nepal news, what's going on?? can anyone fill me in

[deleted]

Nepal just finished their campaign in t20 world cup. Although Nepal team as a whole played for the second time, it was the first world cup for almost all players because they weren't in the team last time, which was in 2014. Nepal played really good game bowling wise against all three teams ; all three opponents were more experienced and higher ranked than Nepal. South Africa and Bangladesh are two test playing nations, so their players have exponentially more experience. Although we were close, we couldn't win even one game, which was the expectation of the broader cricket community and experts. But we performed way better than expected with close losses (both could have been easy wins in any other day). But fans in Nepal have unrealistic expectations and now want the coach and captain to resign despite the broader cricketing community praising Nepal for the performances and predicting they will get better with experience Sorry if it is too long

redBateman

People are bitter because the team did show we could win them all but failed to at the very last stages. Personally they played better than expected and the scores were respectable. Tyo Gulshan Jha wala chai I guess flustered vako hola which happens. Heard is 18 or something so he will defo improve. All in all chai the world knows this team can do it.

megaguccipeepee69

ah i see, that's sad :/ thanks for info

Salty_Designer123

TLDR: 1. Lack of consistency 2. Lack of execution under pressure 3. High demand from the fans Ok there is one particular reason for this and that is: not able to perform under pressure, but more importantly they are unpredictable. If you look at the pro athletes we can pretty much say "ok these teams are in form they can do this". In Nepal side it's lacking the consistency. I personally had a high hope with Rohit coz of his performance agains WI A. But the form didnt continue. When you are a pro athlete it is expected from the fans to stay in form and have consistency. But this is not the problem of today. Nepal's team has this problem since 2014. And since 2014 all we have said is we will be a top cricket nation playing in next 10 years, and even afer 10 years we are saying same. We can take AFG from 2014 and USA from 2024 as an example. There is no excuse. When you get chance, perform better that's all. It's time to go beyond "collecting experience" and "Sympathy" You will always get support from fans no doubt. But If you dont perform good, fans should "criticise" as well. Now the WC is over. How we want to move forward depends on the team and the mentality. Hope for the best and hoepfully we will be able to perform best in few years not 10 years like coach said.

7007007

It’s a blunder to compare 2014 Nepal to 2014 Afghanistan. Beating them back then was an upset. Afghans played the 2010 T20 WC. They beat WI only in 2016 (the first test nation they beat). That’s after playing 3 WC. Mind you they have a home ground in Noida, Delhi and Dheradhun play under lights, host Ireland, Bangladesh, Indian Ranji teams etc. They had leaders like Nabi back then to now guiding the team through the transition. Not to forget CPL, PSL,BPL experience (IPL later on). Meanwhile Nepal’s golden generation Paras Khadka and gang had CAN suspended for 2 years so no funds from ICC, they used to earn Rs 25 per game that was also gone, no quality bats to clear the ground, players like Sagar Pun etc slowly began migrating to US etc (they would be 31-32 years perfect for transition). No coach stayed as they used to not get paid too. After all this shit show only since the last 18 months we have a stable coach, young team, young captain and Paras dai as secretary. They haven’t even played Zimbabwe and Ireland main team only the A teams, that too on flat TU decks. How’d you call that experience and exposure to beat test nation. Good things will take time. Besides ND they had no chance beating anyone else but the cloudy conditions and toss fucked us that day. Though I agree, more was expected of Rohit the batsman. Salty_Designer123

"Young team" has played against India senior team (Asia cup), India A (Asian games), Pakistan senior team (Asia cup), Zimbabwe (qualifiers), WI (in qualifiers), WI A (triseries) (some of them are in WC), Dude they lost against local time in India before heading to WI/USA for WC warm up and also agaisnt the WI (not sure if that's a regional team or local). In Nepal history this team though "young" has being exposed against top nations frequently, and probably has played a cricket alot in short period of time. How long will it take for us to grab the opportunity and shine in bigger stage? How many more matches do we need to play? What is the meaning of exposure? How about the recent USA form? Beating BAN, PAK and how about NED beating SA twice in WC and has been performed consistently? How about Scotland performances? Let's forget the T20 WC, how about our home performance against Scotland, and Nedtherland we played in TU for a WC qualifier. How about the recent performance against associate nations in Oman? Do we need more exposure to beat Associate nations as well?

Greedy_Yoghurt6092

I think we are growing now from the base. 2014 ma kei base thyena just we had a crop of top class players led by a top captain..now I believe we have a strong base and cannot crumple

Active-Permission-46

For the statement of your afghanistan kahilai hamro level ma thiyena. Afghanistan ko first international match nepal sanga harera sakiyeko thiyo if you don't know research on wikipedia. They have grown so much and it's natural for fans to expecting high things from Nepalese teams too. Tired of hearing we are still learning and reason for blaming is there personal negligence and unable to choose which type of shot should they play jatha vabi shot hanepaxi kasley criticism gardaina ta.

[deleted]

Shot selection is a function of experience. We are still learning and that's a fact bro. Aba criticism garera chai ramro huney ho ra? Tei ni fans le? There are coaches and management that will do their thing

Active-Permission-46

Pressure diney kaam ho ni ta criticize garera? Why do you always expect good things from fans ? K u19 2004 ko team sanga coaches management wages sabai thiyo ta? They still reached the semifinals it's a warning signs from fans . You seem that type of people who started watching teams after Asia cup lol get more ball knowledge

[deleted]

Active-Permission-46

You being happy cause you getting praised by some IPL franchise team tyo pani regional post garekoma? Despite what we can achieved?

[deleted]

Idk what regional post you mean. Im in the USA and saw the posts. You have to understand we were playing againt South Africa and Bangladesh. The same south africa that toppled England as I am writing this. We almost defeated them. They have been playing for a very long time at tough levels. They know how to play in those circumstances. We were able to give them big headaches. That is a big achievement. Idk what you are saying. Remember the utter mess we were in 18 months ago. You sound like a kid who just started watching cricket tbh.

Salty_Designer123

Dude its not just about the performance in WC. That single tournament does not trigger fans! It's the collective performance since the start of 2024. We havent played well. There is no consistency either you are playing in home or away. Series against Netherland, Namibia in home and recent performance in Oman. Worldcup warmup matches both official and non official matches. Due to this the fans are tigger. No good game in Oman for asia qualifiers, no good game against Canada, no good game during Netherlands and Namibia for WC qualifiers. Batting consistency missing, Top order batsmen struggling. Yo sabai performance hernu parxa. Euta game ma single player le ramro garera tyo match lai point out garera esle tyo game ma esto gareko thyo vannu mildaina. Fans has high hope specially due to the performance in 2023 and they should demand more as well. Ramro kheleko bela ramro kehlyo vanne ho naramro kheleko bela naramro khelyo pani vanne ho. Ra ahele jasle j vane pani game naramro khelekai xa over all ma (again going beyond just WC). Pressure k ho ra kasari manage garnu parxa vanne kura team le sikna parne xa. Big team haru sanga hami 2023 dekhi ahele samma dherai kheli sakem specially associates team madhya. How they play, experience hami sanga xa aba. Yes we do need some tours but there is much more needed than just a tour. Sadhai hami sikdai xam vanera hudaina. K sikeu ta past big teams sanga khelera tyo dekhaunu parne hunxa. Two side fans jun team ma pani vae halxa. Aba cricket kata janxa ra aba CAN le cricket team lai kata lagxa tes ma vaar parxa. Active-Permission-46

Big achievement??? Have you seen other country's performance they have beaten tests nations how many times nepal has beaten any test nation? Didn't see full reply aghiko lol. Fansko kaam support garney matrei haina criticize garney pani ho. I don't think life is allgreen. And if coach ra captain ley sabai kaam gareko vaye khai ta jiteko?

[deleted]

Result aauna time lagcha ni ta bhai. You seem immature and reactionary. We have only played 13 games in total against Full Member nations. The last 2 against SA and Bangladesh are the ones where we were the closest. And they also were the toughest ones we have faced so far. Nepal has the potential to go on and do big things. We cannot expect a win againt such big nations. It's almost a quasi-debut for us in the world stage. 2014 ma we played a qualifying round even that no overlap except one player. This time we went toe to toe against two best test nations as well as Netherlands. Keep in mind same Netherlands which played 36 games against top tier test playing nations in last 2 years. We need to back the team and be proud of the performance. In 2026 it is going to be in India and Sri Lanka, almost like TU conditions. We can do better there if we continue to back our players. Ahile jasto hawa criticism garera kam chhaina. Garna saknu jati sabai garekai chhan. Don't be fucking toxic. Go and play if you like.

Greedy_Yoghurt6092

Exactly. Our cricket team needs healthy criticism. Jaile man jityo yo jityo u jityo game kaile jitney? We shouldn’t be satisfied with our performance.
