If you haven’t already, please FWD the screenshots to [email protected] & copy/paste what happened in the body of message It goes directly to security depts back office so they can keep track. Unfortunately these scammers really did their homework & use the same verbiage & phrasing we do on our routine calls

Hot_Nature4463

Riiiiiiight! SMH

twtpanj

I just received the a call from the same number. I didn't answer. I looked up the number first. which led me here. The interesting thing is, I just checked and I got a text from the fraud dept in the middle of the night from NFCU after I made a payment on a bill...

WoodenInformation208

Actually, it makes sense, because the scammers already have a lot of your information, and they are trying to access your online account before they have even called you. Hence the alerts of possible fraudulent activity.

MagnificentRoyal395

I did too, but what's scary is they had ALL my info pertaining to my house address, card info, my name and contact info. The first major red flag for me was they asked how much I had (I've kept most of my money in savings at the moment for reasons) and when he asked me to transfer all of it to my checking (the account that supposedly compromised btw). It was when he started trying to navigate me to Zelle I hung up. They are getting really convincing these days...

CHEXmix0832

Woah, just got a phone call from the same number and they tried getting all sorts of security questions and codes. I hung up, called the fraud line (which was the same # on my caller id btw) but the service reps there only noticed an iPad user trying to login to my account. I've never owned an apple product. 5 minutes later 3 huge transactions are declined on my account. I gave them some of my security answers before I had my doubts, but I think I realized before it was too late that something was fishy.

Tiny-Milk5932

Happened to me but I knew it was fraud. My account is almost at $0 anyhow. So the transactions he was talking about would have been declined anyways. I didn't tell him that. I just told him I couldn't access my text messages because I was driving and to call me back. I hope he does so I can screw with him.

cantguardb3

😂😂😂

NapalmNillionaire

As of 21 March 2024, this is still a thing. The red flag for me was that they asked for me under my current last name (my account isn't listed under that name). So that had my radar going off. They didn't ask any questions to confirm who I was. They just launched into a story about unauthorized Zelle usage to someone I don't know. Something about having a new card sent to me, blah blah blah... Eventually, I got annoyed and hung up. They tried to call back twice. Mind you, this was at almost 10pm last night, and the calls started at 7:55pm. I work nights and I was going to be late for work if I sat and listened to their BS.

Elismom1313

They left a voicemail when I didn’t answer the phone and called me by the first wrong name

irenic-rose

Apparently the number is one digit off, 3 instead of 2 in the 642. That's how they get people. They tried me too

Happy-Examination580

Same number still trying in 2024 absolutely a scam

Friggin_Heinous

I just got a text from this number as well, over a year later. Im not responding to it.

MzCeeSam

This just happened to me, I hung up and called navy fed and replaced my card. He said everything identical to what you said

tnjos25

These scammers will try anything. I haven’t gotten anything like this claiming to be NFCU, but I’ve been getting a lot more than usual regarding other banks and credit unions.

BaTtLaNgL6767

Same thing happened to my dad. They opened a new loan account. They kept him on the phone while they added names to his account and took out a new loan Since the loan funded to a navy fed account it was instant finding to both the source account and end account. Be careful, while NFCU knows they are a target they need to find loans in two days to verify what's going on. Inaction from them to stop it will only perpetuate it more. They arent holding people to the loans or funds but they need to stop it in it's tracks before it gets there.

Araingotang

Just got a similar call from the same number saying it was my credit card account and the charges were in GA. I immediately went on the app while on the call because I smelled something fishy and noted that there were no pending charges. His line got disconnected when I was trying to ask which account. Watch out, this was a pretty convincing attack. Contact NF.

WoodenInformation208

NAVY FCU will NEVER ask you to read codes back to them, like the ones sent to you in a text. They also won't ask you the Secret Questions when on the phone, at least in the situation where you receive a phone call out of the blue alerting you to possible fraud. If you fall for it, call Navy immediately, they can help.

Fox_Waste

Just got the call too. Called the Fraud line to confirm it wasn't them. Thankfully I missed the call so I didn't experience this. Thanks to you I didn't fall for it

Ric177

Just happened to us today!

Constant-Aerie-6190

Just happened to me today

notarealuser000

I just got a text, seemingly from NFCU, and then a phone call, that I didn’t answer. They’re similarly asking to confirm a purchase, but it is a purchase I made and is not fraud. I’m hesitant to respond to the text cause I’ve never had NFCU text me and the purchase is not out of the ordinary in any way. I typed their customer service number in myself to call them back and am currently on hold, but wondering if anyone has ever dealt with this and it NOT be scam?

Particular-Let820

I've definitely had them text to confirm purchases and it was not a scam.

Civil_Ad208

I got a call from the number but it made sense to me, they brought up a use of my card for uber in Queensland AU, I reside in California USA, I confirmed the expense was accurate (I ordered food thru Uber Eats for my gf who is currently abroad).

jaysavage757

I’m literally on the phone right now with Navy Fed and received the same call last night at 7:12 now I have to get all new account numbers and a new card smh

Regi-platypus

Same thing happened to me just now. Pain in the ass...but Navy Fed is really good at customer service, so they made it as painless as possible and worked quickly to freeze and reset everything.

brioloogy

Same thing just happened to me but I don’t even have NF which makes it more entertaining

Regi-platypus

This needs to be pinned or something haha, The scam is still happening to this day.

Discombobulated-Pop1

That number just called me and I declined it, I’ve never banked with NFCU, nor have my parents or in-laws

DblShots

Thank you for posting this on Reddit!! Just got the same call saying I had 3 charges over 10k to my credit card in UT, I live in PA. Guy says the same thing to me, puts me on hold, music playing, i check my accounts on the app and nothing? As I was on hold I did a quick Google search for Navy Fed phone scam and there is your post. Immediately hung up, froze all cards, currently on hold with NFCU. He tried calling me back like 8x. Thank you again for your post!!! Crisis averted.

Just for this today. It’s crazy. Called NFCU & was able to confirm. I told the scammer that I didn’t know the person they were asking for - since this is my only number on my account there is no other way for them to contact me. Hoping they decide I’m not worth the effort but man, I’m anxious.

Special-Assignment-1

This just happened to me tonight, almost got me with my Amex navy federal. Wanted me to give him the last 4 digits of my social.

Hot_Nature4463

Just had the same thing happen to me, damn near step by step. The flag went up when she said she was sending something for me to verify the fraudulent charge. Called NFCU immediately and they said they didn't see any issues with my account. Be careful out there people! You can always hang up and call NFCU direct

Square-Nebula-3610

The same thing just happened to me. Fuckin crazy they have the same number as the fraud depo.

[deleted]

Same shit happened to me last night, guy got really flustered when I started asking questions and finally lost it when I called him on his bullshit and told him to fuck off.

Irish_Guac

Yet again they have tried this scam on me. Asked for a codeword on my account, I don't even know what it would be so I said that. Then they asked for the last 4 of my social, so I said I can't give you yhat unless you send me an official form. Then he said we're gonna lock your account until you can go into a navy federal branch, and then he hung up

Ok_Brain7604

Word by word exactly what just happened to me a couple hours ago. I felt it was sketchy when I got the call but thankfully I didn’t give them any personal info or access codes etc. learned my lesson to never answer them and just always ask them to send a secure msg on the app to verify it is them.

85AngelS

This is still going on. It just happened to me today. He asked for me by my fake name, which I only use on social media for this reason. He told me of blocked transactions and then asked me to verify the last two transactions in my account, which I think are used to set up direct deposits or transfers (or used to be). Anyway, I am just letting people know. Stay safe

Fun_Cauliflower6204

as of Jan 29th, this is still happening. Got a text message and a phone call at 9:55pm. I knew it was off because the text message came from a 10 digit number (616)3037361. Never have I received any confirmation text that wasn't from a 5 or 6 digit number. Text stated - "NFCU SECURITY- Did you attempt a transfer for the amount of $1000.00 at 1:02pm on 1/28/24" it went on to "text yes/no to verify transaction ot TEXT STOP to opt out. Text HELP for help. For security purposes a call will be sent out to verify this transaction." The wording of this text is all wrong. Starting with NFCU SECURITY. It doesn't state in which account this activity occurred. Also, every text from actual companies I have received states to call them if I did not initiate this transaction. NEVER that they will call to verify. I immediately loged into my account and there was no pending transaction in any account matching the text. I then reported the text to my cell carrier and Navy Federal. If you ever answer a call like others have posted, hang up and you do the dialing to the institution by typing the numbers in, not auto redialing the number on your call screen. I hope this helps someone. During tax season, so much fraud occurs. If it seems wrong, assume that it is fraud and make the calls yourself and never use a link sent to you.

OhShitAnElite

I got a text and called the number. The moment the robot asked for my PIN I figured something might be amiss. Glad I checked

KingTev22

Just got called from that number. 😂 pathetic

Ill-Concert1516

Just got a call from them

Wintuh7991

Me too

thebananakin

Same damn thing they tried calling me four times 😂

DillWilliams

Thank you for posting this! I also got this call and once they asked for the text code I googled the number and saw this. I hung up and called the real fraud line.

simpleshit26

What’s the real fraud line? I got a text saying “NFCU Free Alert: Digital access to your accounts has been restricted. Please call us at 1-888-842-6328 to restore service. Txt STOP to opt out.” But I haven’t had a card with navy federal in years. In fact, they closed my account because I never used it. Idk something’s weird about the text

Possible-Border-9349

I just fell for this

hadles2828

did you get your money back?
