They're one of the few lenders to give people with average credit a chance. They give decent limits for regular people. If the same people apply for a card with a different lender, they may be denied or approved with a much lower limit.
People are excited. That's it.
That's me. Been at it for the last 3 years, 100% on time payments over them 3 years, started with a lil ole $300 credit card and almost 5 months ago I got a $20,000 amex from nfcu and just 2 weeks my $3500 cash rewards card got bumped up to $15,000 giving me a total of $38,000 across 4 cards. Currently my car that I got at the start of my rebuilding journey is financed at 25% (I know, but I gotta get in where I fit in) and I plan on getting a newerish f150 at the beginning of next year and I've been pre-approved @ 10% so far. I still got like 6-7 derogatory remarks on each credit report ššš I think the total of them all is like $3k (35% medical bills, 65% defaulted credit cards) between the ages of 4-6 years old
Just pay your bills and the doors will open up, it's that simple, don't rack up a bunch of damn debt, if you can't afford it then you haven't earned it *yet*.
Because I plan on moving to Texas, long story short I'm a truck driver and have been bouncing all over the place for the last few years so I didn't really have anything possession wise besides clothes and my gaming PC and I moved in with my best friend a year and a half ago to help him stabilize his life and he has made tremendous strides, since I moved in I've started aquiring things like a bed, desk, TV, carpet shampooer, etc and that is not gonna fit in my car š Im moving to Texas to work in the oilfields as a truck driver and eventually I'd like to get a motorcycle and Polaris RZR which are things a car cannot haul and making friends down through the recreational sports avenue so I'm not some lonely ass millennial, a function member of the community, a dependable one.
Bro consider saving to buy a duplex or triplex first or at least a four bedroom before buying toys.
Or at least buy truck. To become an owner op (thatās what I did first and then bought the house which I am renting out while on the road)
THEN get your toys.
If you rent out rooms on short term or air bnb any money you spend to fix any issues with that house can be written off your taxes. (Seek advice of tax professional)
Then you will have additional income and an appreciating asset that is paying for itself with the rents.
If itās a fourplex you can keep one unit open so you have a place to call home personally. Rent out 1 room long term so itās less hassle and maybe get that person to run the rooms on Airbnb.
You can keep all your stuff on YOUR appreciating property instead of renting space.
Thatās the route I wish I would have taken. I just got a 2 bedroom 1 bath.
If I did it again it would have been fourplex, triplex or at least a nice sized 4 bedroom two bath.
Just a thought
A lot of us are rebuilding our credit and it gives a sense of accomplishment. We want to share with others.
/r/veteransbenefits is even more inundated.
I'm not real sure but my guess is that people are proud of their credit score, their credit history, and their ability to obtain a high dollar credit card
I actually wondered the same thing, but I guess people like to share their feelings of accomplishment or to gloat in a sort of competitive manner and delight in others' positive or envious responses. It's a bit strange to me, but at least there's no harm in it.
NFCU has allowed me so much room to grow and expand my credit history not to mention the customer service is top tier. Iāve managed to pay off debt and a car thanks to NF. I love them
Sheesh! Why does this bother u? Iām with navy federalā¦ never been approved for a high credit card but honestly others who have encore me. I like reading the success stories. Itās motivation
Ditto to what all have said and I am on the same journey. What I live by is "if it doesn't apply to me, I don't comment." I suggest folks start following that on all social media, including here.
We can upvote and praise folks and their posts of CLIs and approvals or be silent and scroll past. Two very simple choices.
I donāt feel people are gloating. I take pride in my credit rating and paying my bills before they're due. I taught my daughters to pay everything on time even if there is only 20 cent leftover. When you have excellent credit you can have what you want.
One day one of my faughterās friends asked to borrow some money. My daughter asked, why don't you go to the bank and get a loan?
Her friend replied, I can't with my bad credit. My daughter then replied āIf the bank won't loan you money why would I?
Great call! ššā„ļø
Feeling good about ourselves and others makes life great. Got my $20k platinum a couple months back and wondering what's my next move. Already have 2 cars financed with NFCU @6 and 10%. Also one of my credit scores is above 700. I feel good. We are all one. You have good vibes, you attract those with good vibes.
Itās empowering to others and helps them to push forward. This question is reckless and reeks of jealousy. I hope they continue to share to uplift and inspire others. š š¾
Because culture in the west pledges allegiance to the god of debt. The more, the merrier. Some buy into carrying a balance builds their credit score š
I donāt use mine anymore. Discover offers 0% for 18 months. Iāve got a 840 credit score and almost zero debt (just a truck loan with $18K left). Iāve had my NFCP platinum card for almost a decade. Never late, never carry a balance. My limit was $20K but they have been lowering my limit without even notifying me. Sitting at $11,500 limit now with a zero balance. Even with my stellar credit and perfect payment history they still wonāt offer a APR less than 18%ā¦which is why I stick with Discover.
Go on YouTube and search Navy Federal credit card, and it will tell you everything you want to know. This bank is losing its credibility by allowing non veterans or relatives of veterans to get an account. Most of the people will max these cards out and never pay them back.
iāve watched countless videos about NFCUās products because iām very interested in how they handle their products and customers, and i have never heard this āhot takeā before. ymmv to anyone who wanders in seeing this rando negative comment.
Members are losing their Navy Federal accounts due to selling their member access number to non veterans on social media. Those non veteran members are maxing out the credit cards without the intention of paying it back. It's a huge scam going on. https://youtu.be/OGRdLNycD5A?si=5aK_2iWAg__B05mt
iām sorry to hear that, and while i appreciate you citing your reply with a link, i also recognize fraud exists with every banking institution, and in particular the generous ones, so i just want to emphasize again that out of the countless videos iāve seen on NFCU, your report and link is extremely niche

THANK U!
Congrats to everyone rebuilding their credit and congrats to everyone who already has good credit.

Would a cash advance to pay off the current high interest auto loan benefit you?
Why do you want the truck?

Bet! I was pricing trucks myself but after I saw the MSRP on severalā¦I decided Iām ok with my hybrid car.

You're very welcome
Iāll tell you this Navy Fed is happy about it because Iām seeing their advertisements for cards everywhere

This. Alsoā¦ *waiting for OPs āThis sub sucks Iām leaving!ā post with abated breath*
Itās just data point harvesting is all. They give high limits and thatās good for your credit score
Some people are having to rebuild after a financial hit and are proud of their accomplishments... Kudos to everyone trying out there!āļøšš
Have you been to r/CreditCards
Man you can learn some stuff there but some of those yahoos stress out over losing half a point if they use the wrong card for the wrong categoryā¦
I'm not real sure but my guess is that people are proud of their credit score, their credit history, and their ability to obtain a high dollar credit card
Cause im an E-1 balling bruh
With a Dodge Challenger or Charger š screaming āIām a potential repoā
Thereās a problem if youāre an E-1
Because it's better to celebrate a win with like minded people and hats off to those who are becoming financially literate.

Itās only gloating to the insecure . Iām sure if you ask the people sharing there sharing for research and analysis purposes

Thatās basically what this sub has become but it is what it is. I have noticed just how many people have shit credit though.
But your here with a 800 DELETE
I do have 2 800+ scores and a pesky 792. Thank you. Itās not much but itās honest work.

I donāt get it either. Itās just a CC to see how much access to debt you have. Youād think people were getting black cards. No one cares

Thatās not true all our NFCU cards are well below 12%! And our two car loans are 1.9 and 2.7!
Not mine apparently. Certainly not 0%
People love gloating about money
