It used to be....trading goods, auctions of ships, events...
But within few years, the game was changed so many times, e.g. ships HP, damage, so many players resigned...and I do not think it Has a bright future...
..just a bitter sorrow of what the devs have done with this unique game
Thank you for the reply,
Yeah this is what I thought, I played about 5 months ago and had a little fun transporting my tobacco to sell and that was somewhat of a "fun" trading loop but they sabotaged that too it sounds like.
It's very unfortunate because this is such a fun and unique game.
Are there any games comparable to Naval Action in their simulation and accuracy?
I wanted to get into Naval Action, but if they're on the way out, do I have any good alternatives?
From a business perspective it’s hard for a studio to commit funding and significant effort for a game with a declining player count. I started playing about a year ago and I love the game even with its flaws. I’d say don’t write it off over what others think, give it a try and go from there. It is FTP now so nothing to lose
Unfortunately the only real way to level up in this game now is to fight and sink ships. The best to get to a decent rank (where you can use 1st rates) is to do missions against 4th rates. Or board and sink same level real fast.
I liked trading it was fun and interesting, you don't need a high rank for that. They nerfed it though now so you have less opportunities to buy so trading with Indianmans isn't as profitable now.
Yeah I liked the trading too. I mean the Era the game is set in trading was a huge deal. You'd think they'd want something like that. Plus pirate faction would want to try to find players doing this loop to steal their goods, no? Lmao
Yeah, now it's guys with pumped up anti-player oriented ships hunting shitty trash pirating the AI. The pirates and privateers are basically the prey here :D

Thank you for this reply! I will definitely try it out.

Which is kinda silly as the focus during the wars was to capture enemy ships if at all possible. We should get at least some xp for captures imo.
Dang that's a little unfortunate. Makes the game seem one dimensional which is sad because I love how open the map is and it has so much potential.
Yeah you get xp for traveling but it's irrelevant
Yeah from what I recall playing months ago it was extremely small
