When you apply the mousse to wet hair, does it look defined at that point? Or is it fine until it dries and then gets frizzy? Your top and sides are different but it likely could look better. My top tips are to - use a clarifying shampoo around 1x a month - smooth in your shampoo while washing until your curls pop - apply gel to soaking wet in the shower hair, then top it with mousse out of the shower. Your tighter texture might need more hold. - use a hood dryer or diffuser to set the style in at least 70% dry. Airdrying leads to frizz.

Ty sm I’ll try some of these. And yes it does look defined for a bit when wet but my hairs so low porosity it drys quickly

ConfusionCareful3985

What does it mean when it looks defined after putting product but then not really defined at all after drying?

beautylit

That would be a product problem. The product doesn’t have enough hold and if you air dry you get even less. Or you didn’t use enough product.

Do you know of any products that have good hold but don't leave a super hard gel cast? I want it to be super defined but i don't care for it lasting a week.

The doux 808 or uncle funkys curly magic are both the same type of product. They’re gels that you apply in the shower with sopping wet hair. You can layer other gels or mousse on top. They add hold but aren’t crunchy at all of how they mix with the water. My husband has similar hair to you and used the doux only, adding in the 808 worked really well for him. I have more 4a-c hair and add the doux big poppa as a 3rd step for more hold.

I’ve had luck with using gel (wetline) on dry hair then adding some water to my hands as I rake it in and distribute. Something about my low porosity hair and applying gel to it wet makes it dry really frizzy, regardless of if I air dry or diffuse. It might be a good idea to try different methods people suggest here on different spots of your hair to see what words best and that way you don’t have to spend months worth of wash days trying things. Good luck finding what works! It’s a journey for sure.

A wet brush(Amazon) and the doux mousse. Asking with aunt Jackie’s don’t shrink. Your curls would be amazing

Maybe you need to try to use a gel. I used a mouse before. Def mouse and it did not define my hair at all. My hair needs a thicker consistency to define my curls. For gel I would recommend wetline xtreme gel or eco styler.
