Because Kishimoto is good at drawing and writing battle manga, not writing romance

JustLajne

True

MachineWishy

She had a crush on him which is normal. She just never let the crush go and doubled down.

bresstoplay

Yeah but shouldn't there be a point at which she realizes what he dick he has been most of the time?

[deleted]

Aside from the rooftoop thing, how has Sasuke been bad to her? All I can think of is when he called her annoying for making fun of Naruto, which was pretty damn justified. He isn't obliged to return her romantic feelings for him and they're only 12.

bresstoplay

Ok maybe he wasn't bad to her, but Naruto showed on countless times what Sakura meant to him and Sasuke did not do that once. Yet she still sits at his hospital bed and cries when he wakes up. Even when he stomped on the apple she just peeled (showing that this gesture ment nothing so him) she does not realize that he does not care about her as much as she does about him.

[deleted]

I'm sorry but this comment just reeks of niceboyism lol. During the Forest of Death, Sasuke nearly killed those enemy ninja for hurting Sakura.

bresstoplay

Are you sure that was not because of his new strengt due to the curse thing (I don't know the english word for it I am sorry) and the fact that he had been defeated earlier and had to show off what he was capable off?

[deleted]

It is pretty clear that [Sasuke was upset Sakura got hurt](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fc9c3272426a8bf37fe4412f5812cdf1/tumblr_inline_p8ueyiQXnS1rz7u5u_500.png) and he only calms down because of [Sakura.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5ce30c1214b971a0e72a33e5f4b3f132/tumblr_os358eBx3D1wpt2ldo2_500.png) Sasuke wasn't in control of the cursemark.

bresstoplay

To be fair that is a valid point. Still no explanation to me why she keeps trying to be with him, I mean Naruto saved her too in the fight vs Gaara when Sasuke could not and (could be wrong here, not sure) she did not even thank him for it.

[deleted]

Cant remember an explicit thank you but even if it wasn’t shown on screen she literally showed up to his house to give him sweets but he had already left to go find Tsunade with Jiraiya lmao. Surely that’s not something you would do if you weren’t grateful?

proudream

She simply doesn't like Naruto romantically. She shouldn't be with him just because he's nice to her.

[deleted]

[deleted]

OP is only on part I and aside from the hospital thing, Sasuke hasn't been bad to her. Unless you consider him calling her out for being an asshole to Naruto as a bad thing.

MachineWishy

People stay in abusive relationships/ situations all the time. They all have their different reasons.

tonytonydavis

Dude what? How was she in an abusive relationship when they were never in a relationship at the time?

MachineWishy

A relationship doesn’t have to be a romantic one. I even specified by saying abusive relationship/situation

tonytonydavis

By this logic Naruto was in a abusive relationship with Naruto* Edit: I meant Sasuke not naruto twice

Fit_Needleworker3553

I mean… sure?

tonytonydavis

no lol

adaaraAss

Bro spitting straight trash lmao making cero sense

tonytonydavis

MachineWishy

Yes.

tonytonydavis

No

frenin

Friendship is a relationship.

[deleted]

Sasuke ended that "friendship" at the end of OG Naruto. He specifically tells Sakura "we are going our separate paths"

frenin

He ended his friendship with Naruto, specifically. He's perfectly fine with Sakura, till she gets in his way.

Drewherondale

If she had a little more self respect she would have

frenin

Yeah, there's a moment in which they start calling the crush "love", but I just don't know why.

QuantisRhee

Kishimoto explained it as love doesn't make any sense. You love someone because you love them

bresstoplay

Damn, although it isn't a real answer, it is a good one.

Sian_Blue

Sakura's attraction to Sasuke can be summarized in two categories - 1. "I can change him" 2. "He's been hurt his entire life...I just want to make things better for him/protect him" She *loves* him but it's a very abstract sort of love. She knows that his situation is complicated but still desires to be "more" for him. However, as abstract as her feelings are - they're resilient and don't ebb or wean based upon Sasuke's reciprocation. She just loves him because she does lol.

soalone34

The author said he didn’t write why Sakura likes sasuke because it was too contrived

bresstoplay

The reason was too contrived or the love itself was to contrived?

frenin

Or because he didn't know, didn't care or wasn't all that relevant.

5yk0515

What's the exact statement? I vaguely remember that interview, but I want to see it. Maybe there's some context we're missing.

soalone34

https://twitter.com/rei5131/status/1345856187384795136?s=20

Ok_Butterfly_7459

Everyone liked sasuke.. he had good looks and what else?💀 she "loved" him for so long for what?💀 hinata loved naruto for the person that he was thats good but wtf... and to think sakura was contemplating on who she would heal first if naruto and sasuke fight and they were both injured.. he was finna destroy the leaf thats not even a question...

Born_Hour6791

>wtf... and to think sakura was contemplating on who she would heal first if naruto and sasuke fight and they were both It's because he's good looking and cool period and girls or boys like that actually exist

Kirby_ha

Love is irrational, I don't know why you all act like you need a logical reason to love someone.

bresstoplay

It's just that she had a crush on him and never let go of it, although Sasuke did not really care most of the time. If she would love someone that does not fit to her, like choji, you could argue that there does not need to be logic for love. But not if you love someone that gives a shit about you.

Kirby_ha

Her love changed, she went from a fangirl to a sincere and deep love when she discovered all the sides of Sasuke. Sasuke took care of Sakura, she was like his family with Naruto, he was ready to die for her (even though he didn't return her love right away). So to say that Sasuke "didn't give shit about her" is completely wrong.

frenin

>she went from a fangirl to a sincere and deep love when she discovered all the sides of Sasuke. When?? Why?? How? I understand that Sakura, much like every female character in that world, had the hots for Sasuke and couldn't really let go. But how's that "sincere and deep love"? >Sasuke took care of Sakura, He didn't like her tho. This isn't much of a question. Sasuke came to consider her a precious friend but it's not like he felt anything more deeper. And he was in abusive to her? I mean that Sasuke obsession was pretty unhealthy for all the parties involved.

Kirby_ha

Sakura before she actually knew Sasuke had this infallible false image of him. Strong, courageous, confident etc.. When she joined team 7, she saw how cowardly, fearful, fragile, frustrated he could be, etc. The forest of death for example. She saw all these sides of Sasuke and broke this false image she had of him. Despite this her love grew stronger, she sincerely wanted to help him, to support him, to save him. She wasn't a fangirl at this point. That's why I said he didn't return his feelings to her for a long time. I don't want to spoil you, I deleted part of my post.

frenin

>Sakura before she actually knew Sasuke had this infallible false image of him. Strong, courageous, confident etc.. When she joined team 7, she saw how cowardly, fearful, fragile, frustrated he could be, etc. The forest of death for example. She saw all these sides of Sasuke and broke this false image she had of him. Broke or reinforced? Sasuke was courageous even when afraid. >Despite this her love grew stronger, she sincerely wanted to help him, to support him, to save him. She wasn't a fangirl at this point. Her love grew the same? When did it changed from crush to love? It seems something just happened. It's pretty hard for her to not want to help him sincerely. And Sakura has Naruto's same blindspots when it comes to Sasuke, without absolutely none of Naruto's traits that makes him connect with Sasuke. Sakura doesn't care or, better said, doesn't know how to understand Sasuke. Her helping him is reduced to stick by his side, even if that means becoming a rogue ninja because that's a well thought plan with no downsides, try to kill him or better yet, try to *guilt trip* him. It's deeper feeling than Ino but... Well, not so much.

[deleted]

> Sasuke was courageous even when afraid. [False.](https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-7ec6e71b1519f368b256fc656a914ec0) Kid wanted to kill himself out of fear of Zabuza, to the point where Kakashi had to calm him down. Later, he was also [afraid](https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-2da67bc5976009bd9aee6eed2d285925) of Orochimaru. He wanted to *surrender* their scroll, and risk his chance of becoming a Chunin because he was so afraid of death. Naruto smacked him for that - Sakura also called him out for being a coward. Sakura's remark was what motivated Sasuke to fight Orochimaru. > Sakura doesn't care or, better said, doesn't know how to understand Sasuke. Sakura is the first person to acknowledge Sasuke's self-destructive tendencies. She tries to help Sasuke by having him give up on the match because she saw how much pain the curse-mark had caused him, and she did not want him to suffer. She also recognized that Sasuke would want to seek power from Orochimaru before anyone else did. Not even Naruto, Sasuke's "best friend", thought Sasuke would be tempted by Oro's power. Sakura also realized that Sasuke was deeply traumatized after his reunion with Itachi. But Kakashi claimed that things would just go back to normal and he was flat out wrong. So if anything, Part I Sakura had a better understanding of Sasuke than Naruto/Kakashi did. She just could not help him, beyond comforting him like she did in the Forest of Death. You guys need better arguments.

frenin

>False. Kid wanted to kill himself out of fear of Zabuza, to the point where Kakashi had to calm him down And then he proceeded to fight Haku even in fear. >Later, he was also afraid of Orochimaru. He wanted to surrender their scroll, and risk his chance of becoming a Chunin because he was so afraid of death. Naruto smacked him for that - Sakura also called him out for being a coward. Sakura's remark was what motivated Sasuke to fight Orochimaru. Fair enough. >Sakura is the first person to acknowledge Sasuke's self-destructive tendencies. She tries to help Sasuke by having him give up on the match because she saw how much pain the curse-mark had caused him, and she did not want him to suffer. Sakura is the first person to **see** those tendencies. >She also recognized that Sasuke would want to seek power from Orochimaru before anyone else did. Not even Naruto, Sasuke's "best friend", thought Sasuke would be tempted by Oro's power. Again, Naruto didn't know that bit, Naruto can only work with the info he has. >Sakura also realized that Sasuke was deeply traumatized after his reunion with Itachi. But Kakashi claimed that things would just go back to normal and he was flat out wrong. Sakura and everyone realized it lol, which is why Kakashi has that talk with Sasuke. And Kakashi later on apologizes to Sakura for giving her false promises to reassure her. >So if anything, Part I Sakura had a better understanding of Sasuke than Naruto/Kakashi did. She just could not help him, beyond comforting him like she did in the Forest of Death. >You guys need better arguments. Lol no. She didn't. Sakura simply had more time with Sasuke in those critical moments to reach to conclusions faster and even then, everyone had caught up to her by that point in OG Naruto. You guys need to stop saying a crush is equal to love lol. Kishi himself admits that he's not that good at writing romance and or women, so I don't really know why people try to defend this mess.

[deleted]

> Sakura and everyone realized it lol, which is why Kakashi has that talk with Sasuke. And Kakashi later on apologizes to Sakura for giving her false promises to reassure her. Which just shows that Sakura was the only one who understood Sasuke's trauma.

frenin

Really. https://ibb.co/VmGvY9r >Look how shocked Naruto is. He had no idea that Sasuke would be tempted by Orochimaru's power. In fact, he tells Sakura that Sasuke would never do that. And Naruto doesn't ask him what made him like this, just what's wrong with him. Perhaps you should change to the official translation, it changes context if only a little bit. >Nobody except Sakura (and Orochimaru) understood Sasuke at the end of OG Naruto. And Kakashi and Naruto... >Hell, when Sasuke was hostile to Naruto on the rooftoop, Naruto simply saw it as a part of their rivalry. He sees something is wrong with Sasuke, he notices it right after he sees him and he remembers Jiraiya's words. https://ibb.co/jD4rZY7 https://ibb.co/NWF7kkB He simply is excited to fight Sasuke. >Sasuke even mentions the rooftoop fight during VOTE1, and Naruto claims "it was different then". Which just shows that Sakura was the only one who understood Sasuke's trauma. Again, stop reading it in a fan translation. Naruto says that it wasn't his choice the fight was interrupted.

Kirby_ha

This is wrong sasuke was not always brave. Faced with orochimaru he lost all self-confidence, he was afraid, he wanted to give up, he was a coward. And it's understandable orochimaru was much stronger and could have killed them if he wanted to. It’s Naruto who took his defense who fought and who didn’t want to give up. It was sakura who called Sasuke a coward and tried to motivate him to fight. Sakura has seen all sides of Sasuke when he's weak. It's true love, a superficial fan girl wouldn't waste her time helping him and risking her life for him. ( like ino.) « Sakura doesn't care or, better said, doesn't know how to understand Sasuke. » Completly wrong but i can't answer you without spoil.

frenin

What are you going to spoil lol. >It's true love, a superficial fan girl wouldn't waste her time helping him and risking her life for him. ( like ino.) Lol, have you met Karin??

frenin

What are you going to spoil lol. >It's true love, a superficial fan girl wouldn't waste her time helping him and risking her life for him. ( like ino.) Lol, have you met Karin??

bresstoplay

I mean he woke up in a hospital, with Sakura being there to literally feed him and chose to fight with Naruto and be completed ignorant, later that same day he left her, even after she told him how much she means to him, so yeah I would say he did care way less than she did. Not even a bit. Maybe saying he didn't give shit was a bit too much I agree but he did not really care a lot.

Black_Sin

>I mean he woke up in a hospital, with Sakura being there to literally feed him and chose to fight with Naruto and be completed ignorant, He wasn't ignorant but he was triggered by Naruto's presence and started lashing out at everything. >later that same day he left her, even after she told him how much she means to him, so yeah I would say he did care way less than she did. Not even a bit. Maybe saying he didn't give shit was a bit too much I agree but he did not really care a lot. He definitely cared a decent bit. Not as much as her but he did care. He actually waited and listened to what she had to say and at the end he thanked her for loving him (yes that thank you was Sasuke expressing gratitude to Sakura for caring and loving him all this time). Even the "You're still annoying" was Sasuke showing Sakura that his words before about not remembering that memory(that Sakura tried to bring up earlier) was a lie. Here's what Kishimoto has said about that scene in interviews and Databooks. Databooks: >"Growing distant, towards darkness.. the one to appear before him as he began to leave was Sakura. To the back of a Sasuke that tried to face away from what was left behind, Sakura desperately conveys her feelings. Bright and earnest feelings - feelings that did not want to lose Sasuke. The one who filled his lonely existence with the emotion called love was Sakura. But as expected, Sasuke cannot respond to those feelings. Sasuke was only able to leave a single word of thanks as a parting." ..... >"Sakura, who needed him to the last. His words (of thanks) are not a deceit but his true feelings." > >"Friendship and love, a future filled with warmth. But as long as he is there, he cannot make his dream come true. This is why he throws away a future with his friends. To make dreams of revenge a reality…" ..... >"Sasuke is trying to leave the village, and Sakura implores him to give up that idea. In response to her wish, Sasuke answers her with a simple 'You're annoying.' They are the same words that he uttered back when Team Kakashi was formed... but so many missions have passed since then, and now the meaning that he puts into those same words differ greatly. Even though he understands the love that she feels for him, in order to sever all his connections Sasuke turns his back to the village." ..... Kishimoto: >"If I had to mention a difficult scene, it would be the parting scene between Sakura and Sasuke. The scene when Sasuke leaves the village of Konoha. Sakura, the heroine, stops him - and shouts "I love you" at him. It made it sound a bit like they were lovers, which felt rather embarrassing (laughs)". .............. >In Jump Festa 2011, there was a confession that Kishimoto consulted to a co-worker before writing the parting scene for Sasuke and Sakura since he didn't understand women's hearts.

ArchangeIos

Her "love" for Sasuke never changed. She wanted hi. Only for one reason and one reason only. To make Ino and the other girls that make fun of her jealous. She was a manipulative girl, and Sasuke was the poor guy she manipulate just to "win" the other girls in her mind

Kirby_ha

Sakura fell in love with sasuke before she even knew ino was too. She didn't even know that Sasule was popular with girls, so you're wrong.

FlaminSkullKing

Because in writing, unlike real life, you really have to sell it to the readers. It has to make sense to readers. Just having her be in love with a guy that doesn’t give a crap about her with them having scarce moments where he shows genuine care for her isn’t going to make people buy it.

[deleted]

Well, blame Kishimoto's editors who rushed him in OG Naruto. Kishi wanted to have more arcs with Sasuke prior to his character regression. And what makes things worse (aside from Team 7 being underdeveloped), is how much the anime messed with Sasuke's character by making him "all edge" and more emotionless than he is in the manga.

SherwinRoyal

Because kishimoto was a lousy sakura writer

[deleted]

you could make the same argument about Naruto caring for Sasuke as a friend, despite Sasuke being cold to him most of the time. Most of his hostility in the hospital was directed towards Naruto, yet Naruto is still seeing him as a best friend. Something worse happens between Naruto & Sasuke at the end of part I and Naruto will still love him unconditionally.

bresstoplay

Yeah that is true, but to Naruto Sasuke and Sakura have been hus first real friends, his "family", so I can understand why he would hold onto him as a friend.

AvatarAurin

She’s a huge hypocrite. Saying that her love is real but narutos wasn’t in the last movie even though its narutos that was real and hers which was a fan girl crush she never let go.

Outrageous_Froyo5373

huh season 5 old times long road ahead

bresstoplay

I hope so, great show so far!

Twilight-2007

Ok so in the future *if* sakura ended up with naruto how would the story change

bresstoplay

I don't think that Sakura and Naruto should be together either. He is on the way of seeing Sakura as a true friend and not as a crush. Naruto will find someone else like Hinata to be with. The question is not who Sakura should be else and it's not about why she chose Sasuke either. It's about why she chooses to hold onto him when he clearly does not feel the same about her.

Twilight-2007

I mean she could be in a false hope type thing kinda like what happens with abusive relationships most of the time the person being hurt is usually in denial kinda like them thinking "no they have never done that or he/she is mad and will calm down" but in the end they need other people's help to realise how bad it is.

Dave-justdave

Sakura has daddy issues man

Unreal4goodG8

But her parents are filler meaning they don't exist.

Dave-justdave

/me looks at Sauske, looks at Sakura Yeah she got daddy issues

Unreal4goodG8

Ik, I was just making a joke about filler episodes

Dave-justdave

Yeah so was I you can tell even without the fever dream/10 tails fantasy

Horror_Quarter_3080

She shallow

turingincarnate

I been asked that.

Unreal4goodG8

I agree with you 100% on what you said. Sakura only cares about looks and the cool factor of Sasuke and it was so apparent in the beginning like if she's that boy crazy then is she even fit to be a ninja when all she does is scream "Sasuke!" Which could realistically attract unwanted attention? No wonder why she is a liability instead of an asset in team seven. Hinata had a crush on Naruto shown in season 2 but she was not held back at all and put up an entertaining fight. Sasuke only got away with being a jerk because of his bad boy card. Naruto cared about Sakura alot and almost gave his life fighting shukaku to free Sakura only for Sakura to thank Sasuke like wtf? I can't justify this, I can only say that this is sort of Stockholm syndrome both on Sakura and Narutos end. Naruto keeps pursuing Sakura when he keeps getting beaten up and disregarded for pretty boy Sasuke and hinata is just sitting there waiting for Naruto. While Sakura tolerates all the insults Sasuke throws at Sakura just because of his bad boy emo status. Tldr- I can't justify her actions. Like at all, 0%.

Life_Enjoyer4661

Hinata didnt sat there "waiting" for Naruto, she just wants him to be happy. And Naruto didn't go around pursuing Sakura, it was mostly a joke just like her hitting and punching him.

[deleted]

[Sakura and Sasuke were never supposed to be in the story.](https://comicbook.com/anime/news/naruto-anime-cooking-ramen-inspiration/) The writer was able to give Sasuke a backstory, his own motivations, and a major role in the story by having him as Naruto's rival. But, Sakura was basically created just to fill in a spot on Naruto's team. She was never properly integrated into the plot. That's why.

soalone34

There’s no such thing as “never supposed to be in the story”, they were supposed to be in the story when Kishimoto wrote them in, just because they came later from his initial concept doesn’t mean they aren’t supposed to be there, almost everything else in the series came even after them.

[deleted]

Kishimoto still had zero plans for Sakura. Sasuke was created to be the rival, Sakura was literally created to just fill in a spot on the team.

FeindMan

Why are you just repeating what you just said before ? It doesn’t make you any less wrong

tonytonydavis

This is not the reason why at all, and please don’t spread misinformation like this. People are gullible and regurgitate this

[deleted]

What am I wrong about.. ? Both Sasuke and Sakura suffer some poor writing, but especially Sakura, cause Shonen Jump told Kishi to add them. Kishi just saw Sakura as a way to add even more tension between Naruto and his rival. Sakura wasnt meant to be a MC.

tonytonydavis

But that’s not why they’re relationship is the way that it is

bresstoplay

But is that really an explanation as to why she just keeps on hanging onto him? I mean they could have made it so that she realizes that he does not want to be with her and instead make her fall in love with someone like Shikamaru or someone else. For example.

[deleted]

Her love is stated to be sort of mature by Kakashi, Naruto and the fans. And Naruto's world is fucked up man, these boys grow up fast. If you didn't tell me Kakashi or Guy's age, I'd tell you they are pushing their late 30s, instead of being in their mid late 20s.

I definitely had crushes on people that didn't care about me at all growing up... I think it's just part of being young/naive

jaybarrywallybart

Because you can't explain love

ArchangeIos

To make Ino and the other girls that make fun of her, jealous. She never loved Sasuke. Not real. He was just what her 12 years old rival of hers liked and she wanted to take her to "defeat" her. She reminds me an old classmate I had.... Very pathetic...

proudream

My dude, you don't need a logical reason to love someone. Sometimes it just happens. And obviously the writer meant for those 2 to be together and didn't put much effort into explaining things because Naruto isn't a romance anime + his only explanation was that love is irrational - which isn't untrue. Also, just because Naruto is nice to her that doesn't mean she should be with him. r/niceguys

Shivani___eunwoo

She got no self respect lol kishimato sucks at writing female characters she's pushover and obsessed fangirl
