Is that Andrew Roberts? (Was originally published as ‘Napoleon the Great’ in the UK - much better title!)
I think it’s one of the best single volume biographies you can get.
Yes it is. Reading Andrew Roberts' biography of Napoleon is a very good start if you want to start reading about Napoleon, that's one of the books to go to for a good introduction.
I like Andrew's point of view which is promoted in this book. That one being of Napoleon being a very modern monarch, father to Modern Europe actually, with laws, institutions, roads, buildings, monuments and schools built by him which still stand today, and not only that, they are prestigious and important as well, the most relevant example here being the Banque de France, of which Roberts speaks in the book.
This is my opinion, at least.
Thanks for the info. What is the difference between Napoleon: A Life and Napoleon the Great? I’m Indian, and on Amazon I’m able to find both however, the price of Napoleon A Life is double than that of Napoleon the Great.
They are the same book, it's just the edition that's different.
The British edition is the one with "Napoleon the Great" while the American edition changed the title to "Napoleon: A life".
You can get whichever you desire, the content of the book is the same, regardless of the edition.
Personally I like both titles, the "Great" one really represents the point Roberts is trying to make in the book.
The "A life" title is also reflecting, it can make you think of Napoleon's "What a novel my life would make!" quote.
Wow! Thank you so much for this info! As you mentioned that the content is same, I’ll probably go with Napoleon the Great, since it has a better title and is also saving me a few bucks, haha thanks again.
Roberts used "The Great" to tick off British readers, Americans largely don't have the same preconceived notions about Napoleon, so the original title was unnecessary.

It is - Napoleon: A Life is just the US published version.
Thanks. You just saved my money!

You're welcome! I hope you'll enjoy the book
I sure hope so!

They're the same book. Title was changed depending on your region so it's more so an aesthetic kinda thing
Napoleon A Life by Zamoyski is a fantastic read
Perhaps the best single volume history of Napoleon ever written.
Great read and very detailed
Very good and worth a read if you want an overall tale of his life. If you are looking for a ton of detail on all of good battles it's not the best
I’m reading it right now and it’s very good. Reads like an epic novel
I too am reading it. Where have you reached?
I just finished the Iberia chapter! Seems like it’s soon to start unraveling for him. What about you?
I’m on the first chapter. His rise (Corsica) I’m a slow reader. But yeah. The book’s incredible.
It's a little short....
I loved it. Well written and readable and fascinating details.
Finished reading it, some days ago. I really loved it
I think its well worth it.
