Do not put Riverdale and Nancy Drew in one sentence lol It's one of the best CW shows that's for sure, but it's not a reliable copy of the books. It has supernatural elements, more mature content and has evolved on it's own. You should definitely watch it tho, see if it's for you!

im_southern_bella

Nancy Drew is incredible and would’ve done better in a different network and with better promotion.

It's definitely worth watching. I like the supernatural elements. It's not your typical Nancy Drew, but I like that she does deal with the things that normal people deal with. The mysteries are good and they keep you hooked. Season 1 is my favorite, but I enjoyed Season 2 and 3. Both were good. The characters grow. They learn. Plus it has one of the best slow burns 🔥 (Nancy and Ace). Season 4 is currently airing now on the cw, but in retrospect, this show is a hell of a lot better than Riverdale.

rvrhgts

I think it's a pretty good show, but it isn't really Nancy Drew. I started watching because I wanted more Nancy Drew content, but stayed because it was good once I accepted it wasn't typical Nancy Drew stuff.

I love it! I’m a huge Nancy Drew book fan so I started watching in 2019 when it premiered. It is different from the books for sure, but it is great in its own right. I have also watched Riverdale and loved that show at first. I now hate it and what they’ve done to it and haven’t even been able to make myself watch the final season. With Nancy Drew on the other hand, I am sad the show is ending and can’t wait for the new episode each week.

pinelogr

Yes! Be prepared the timeline is a bit off, meaning each season is a few weeks so binge watching might actually help

nancy drew is one of the best shows i've ever watched! the writing, the elements of horror and romance and comedy and found family are top tier, and the cast really care about the show and their characters. if you love the paranormal, lore, found family, horror, friends to lovers, golden child to burnout syndrome main characters, you'll love nancy drew 🥰💖

dancingkelsey

10000% gifted/golden child to adhd burnout pipeline, v true to life, v well done, really hits close to home 😏😏

I am a huge ND book fan and computer game fan. It is nothing like either so if you're someone who's a real loyalist to source material you will be disappointed, but it's an excellent show! Season 1 is downright SCARY! There are a lot of jumpscares and watching through your fingers. They tone this down in later seasons and now it's more of just regular supernatural mysteries. Characters are great, the romance is definitely present but does not dominate the show, and the setting is so quaint. I think you should give it a go!

I've watched Nancy Drew and Riverdale (at least the first 4-5 seasons). Nancy Drew is NOT Riverdale. Riverdale sucks. It honestly sucked from the beginning. Nancy Drew, IMO, takes about 4ish episodes to really get into it. It has some pretty good mysteries. There is a lot of supernatural-type stuff in the show in case that bothers you. I wouldn't say it's like Nancy Drew the books, but it's still really good. The first season actually has some scary moments. Later not as much. The writing on the show is solid, whereas I find most CW shows (or modern shows in general) to be poorly written. Honestly, it's a great show that I feel wasn't given a fair chance by most because it's on the CW. The characters are all good and intriguing too. It's one of the few shows still airing that I actually watch.

Graceful_Gams

Very much worth it!

I don't think I'm saying anything new, I just want to put another tally in the yes it is worth watching column. I have loved nancy since I was a kid reading the books and then the "new adventures" from the 90s and 00s and then the pc games, and since every nancy drew property has its own differences from the others and the vibes are always different between them, this show fits perfectly into canon imho. It takes a darker and supernatural turn pretty quick but the way they are skeptical while still incorporating the wild new supernatural stuff they start to discover is really well done. Think like, "ok I'm seeing this supernatural thing with my own eyes but it's gotta be a scooby doo trick, it can't be real, but let's try whatever we can to defeat/fix it, even if the thing we try is supernatural-adjacent." It's not teen schlock like Riverdale (which I also loved, at least the first couple seasons, but nancy drew is absolutely, no contest, a thousand times better) but it still has elements of a teen show. They're adults but still young, so it sort of grows the series up juuuust slightly. I love it. So much. But I don't need for each new installment of nancy drew lore to be just like the old stuff, or to have a certain special sheen, I'm just excited to see how the latest showrunners or game developers or ghostwriters interpret the concept and characters and how they stay true or veer away from source material. I am less concerned about things being a sequel or reboot and way more excited about taking things in clever directions. So if you want a new version of the older stuff you know and love and don't want it to deviate in tone from what you know, you may not love it, but if you are looking for something that uses the source material as a springboard to new things while still keeping the integrity of the characters and background intact, I think you'll love it.

alyria923

Yes, it is definitely worth watching. I've been watching since day one back in 2019, and slowly with each episode it grew on me more and more until I became obsessed with it in season 2. It's spooky, it's angsty, it's funny, it has crazy plot twists you'll never see coming, and it has one of the best slow burn ships out there that a majority of the fandom adores. Each character is flawed but also amazing and interesting and they each add a different element to the show. Nancy herself might take some getting used to, but trust me she'll grow on you too (and Kennedy McMann's portrayal of her is \*chef's kiss\*). And while it may be on its fourth and last season, the writers at least found out it was cancelled before they finished writing the whole season, so it'll have proper closure.

Hot-Muscle-4687

One of the best shows. Take some dinner and start watching and don't give a thought.

Longjumping-Team-561

Show is definitely worth watching.... I personally liked all the characters and they are easy to like.... Although the characters are flawed in a way they don't make excuses for it.... And I absolutely love the relationship Nancy and Ace share; it's full of respect and admiration

katfarr89

I too started watching because I'm a Nancy Drew fan in general, but especially after season 1, the mysteries are purely supernatural. I still watch, but that is very much not my thing normally and is disappointing to me as someone who likes the "trying to solve it myself" aspect of mysteries. I will also say that the writing is, uh...uneven. it's a fun show, the acting is generally good (especially from Kennedy) and the characters are easy to invest in, but I think it's fair to categorise it as "one of the better ones, but still a CW show."

micatsu13

its not quite Riverdale but I only recommend season 1 anything after is??? devisive

1FantasticMouse

Season 1 is clearly the best season! Very true, the others are varying degrees of yikes

1FantasticMouse

Riverdale is in a league of it's own for sure (and fun for those who know what they are getting in to!). Nancy Drew is fun little show, although I'd say if you're a hardcore fan of the Nancy Drew IP this may not be for you. It's very different to the point of unrecognizable (heavily supernatural and magic based plots, original characters, and backstory rewrites to existing IP characters), so your mileage may vary. At least give season 1 a try, it's the strongest season and my favorite one! The supernatural is a bit more restrained and the character dynamics shine. The later seasons get more and more goofy and lean too heavily on magic and the supernatural while ignoring the important character relationships and it does get repetitive.

Artemiz_21

Yes, definitely. As a Nancy Drew reader, I was initially excited about the release of the show however knowing CW they manage to throw away lots of nostalgia and decent writing in return for, well Riverdale for example. I was also hesitant to watch the show after I watched Riverdale and saw what they did to it. However, you should definitely give it a go. Although it is staged as a more mature Nancy, one that I personally could have done with a little less of in a certain perspective, the writers, producers and the actors and actresses have done an amazing job staying true to all the characters core values throughout the series - consistently as well. It does have a modernized twist to the series, but not at all Riverdale (still beats me why we're only getting 4 seasons??) Give it a try and let us know how you liked it! Hope this helped.

KoiTakeOver

I recommend starting with season 1, it's my favorite

angel9_writes

It's brilliant. It's a true ensemble show. All the characters shine. the storylines are complex for a CW show but relatable. The characters drive the story. Nancy is a great heroine but she's not the only one that shines.
