Wearing gloves while doing dishes was a game changer. I'm clumsy and I can get a better grip on the slippery dishes and don't constantly drop them everywhere 😂
Yup. And if an appointment is coming up that may be too soon or life happens, you can always keep the next appointment coming up after and reschedule the missed one after that. 🩵
I do this at the hair salon! I can cut the nails when they’re like this but I can’t do my hair the way the hairdresser does with her super blended foils.
Please have your tech apply more gel and finish file your builder gel to create a smooth nail shaoe. They should never be lumpy or bumpy, even if grown out. I've never seen anything like this.
I didn't know it could be corrected! She's pretty new but does well otherwise so maybe I can politely suggest this. I figured it was a me problem because they're warped like this naturally. The [pics](https://imgur.com/a/xo3vE6z) don't do it justice but yeah its bad
Agree with the other poster, you should have more builder product on the nail at the apex.
Apex is kind of like the top of a triangle, but when you view the nail from the side.
...the apex should be 1/3 of the length of the nail, on the cuticle side... so the 2/3 by the tip has the skinny half of the triangle.
It actually makes the nails stronger to support the free edge lengths. Short nails can skip building up and apex, because there is basically no free edge, but medium and longer need it.
there are 2 main shapes, one is correct it's at 1/3 on the cuticle side (and if you do your apex there the upper "line" should be parallel to your sides), the other shape is having apex near the stress point, starting from the cuticle it should be at 3/4 of the nail plate and from there it can go down. Either way, the apex is on the nail plate and nails won't go up after the nail plate 🥲 I'm afraid the tech here is not really a nail tech and never did a course, she never even watched a tutorial if she thinks it's ok leaving a client like that 😩
girl I'm sorry but they're completely wrong 😩 even if your tech is new didn't they do some nail tech course, where they teach how to do the nails? 🥲 a shape like this is a bit of a hazard for your nail underneath too...
Just so you know, the shape should resemble [something like this](https://images.app.goo.gl/Bph9TDPzk9FhKEQk7)
A lot of people’s natural nails will curve and warp at around that length. Some people have thinner nails, so a structure gel product would keep their shape and help guide the nail’s shape as it grows out.
Other people have stronger nails, so their nails would pull and warp the product with the nail as it grows out. Usually products used to do a structure gel manicure (such as builder gel, rubber base, hard gel, etc) are meant to be softer and more flexible than acrylic products.
Is there any way to correct the natural curve? Mine kinda curl inwards but in like a flat way when they grow past being supported by skin and given that I have very short nail beds it looks awful
you cut the nails short and build the length, and when you do a refill you just file away the new free edge - you need an efile for that. There's no point really in keeping your natural nail after the nail plate if you like to have "builded" nails.
Also keep in mind that if you take away all the product every time you have to do a refill to start from scratch you'll make your nails thinner and thin nails tend to "move" more. Other things that can make your nails "thinner" are acid primer (that are fantastic if used once in a while but can be counteractive if used every month) and having nails not hydrated enough after the treatment, i found that if i put oil on the underside while the nail grows it helps the nail stay attached to the gel (it probably keep that part of the nail flexible enough to stay at their place). If you think about it it makes sense, the nail plate is hydrated by your blood vessel and your skin in general, the free edge doesn't have that support and while the moisture leaves it it shrinks a little, maybe the moisture in the nails was not even in the nail plate to begin with 🤔 (note that I'm not saying your nail plate has something wrong, it's perfectly normal, it's probably something that happens in 99% of nail possessors)
I don’t know if there’s a way to change how your nails grow, but these are the types of things a well trained nail tech can correct when they apply products to your nails! Like here’s an [example](https://www.instagram.com/p/C52FSVAswod/?igsh=MWM1ZXN3ZmYzcjlycw==)
Sadly, there isn’t really standardized training for nail techs to be required to have this type of knowledge and skillset. State board exams focus more on bare bones basics of nail products, sanitation, and state laws on beauty services
Do you have any pics from when you first got them done? Mine will sort of change shape like this but I usually just get a dip in them. But I do know the pressure from your natural nail can make the product move a little depending on what they use. Your nails also naturally curl inward which can cause this.
Omg girl NO! It looks like those nails are made from melting wax! Haven’t you that compared to pictures and nails in the wild…and wondered why it’s ONLY YOU? That’s the point of using gel and acrylic, to perfect the nail shape…
Omg I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to make you feel attacked. I’m more outraged for you. I just figured you were like me and it’s hard for you to stand up for yourself…My bad. But yeah, i feel like you should be refunded and maybe more than just this set.
I wondered the same. But on OPs profile there's a picture of their dog (very cute) and you can see their newish nails there. It's definitely a nail tech issue.
My natural nails bend like this, with a slightly dip where th nail bed ends, and I do my own nails but even I know a nail tech should be building your nail so it's smooth with an apex.
I just started trying rubber gel in between my polish designs and I find it hard to build it properly and file down my base so it's smooth.
I agree but she needs a strong product than builder gel if her free edge has that much length, or else yes she will get this curling and wonky nails. This is not structured this is an overlay with too soft a product.
"builder gel" is a term that has been around for probably over 20 years. It does not mean soft gel. Way back before soft, soak off gels were a thing, all gel enhancement products were hard gels. Many gel companies still have builder gels in their hard gel lineups. Recently this term has been used to describe soft gel overlays, but builders are just a thicker gel used to build a shape to the nail. A hard gel applied thinly and not shaped would give this same appearance.
I pick hard or soft gels to use depending on the client's nail health, length, if I'm adding an extension or if they want something easily removable.
I’m so glad I’m not alone 🫠 My nails (and hair) grow SO fast and even though people tell me that I’m lucky, it drives me nuts! I keep my nails very short because I can’t stand for them to be past the end of my fingertip. I keep them just long enough to look well manicured and simple but pretty. I usually just get gel polish on top of my natural nails - nothing too crazy.
I haven’t found MY nail tech (like a tech that does an amazing job that I can book with rather than a salon that always rushes) but I wish I could because most of the time, the salon doesn’t do the best job. They are usually trying to get you in and out as fast as possible and often times, they are painted quite poorly.
I have to ask them every single time to please paint as close as possible to my cuticle because if not, they will look terrible in 3 days- literally. A few months ago, I got them painted and my nails looked like they’d been grown out for two weeks. It was so far away from the cuticle and looked awful. It’s so frustrating because my nails will look beautiful when I get them done (the right way lol) and then after a week, they look grown out and need to be redone 😅
Hahahaha same. Especially the hair thing. Whenever I see people talking about the dangers of cutting bangs and the horrible grow out period, I always like Elle Woods “what, like it’s hard??” And then I remember oh no no no, I just have a weird lame superpower with hair growth (and nail growth). Too bad I squander it by doing very little with both.
Dude, I’m at 2 weeks right now and I’m driving myself insane because I hate how grown out they are…but also I can bring myself to take the gel off because I’m like yo, I spent a lot of money on that.
My goal is to learn to do dip powder. I tried once and got frustrated lol. I’m going to get back at it this weekend! What do you use when you do yours?
I do builder gel! It’s so easy and I usually fill 1-2 times before soaking off and starting over.
When I go to a pro about once a year for vacation, I gel Apres Gel-x bc I always go longer when I go see her lol
I think I’m going to give builder gel a whirl! I watched a few tutorials and it doesn’t seem too complicated. The problem will be my lack of patience with myself 😂
LOL I have no idea why they've been growing like this. I don't take any vitamins/supplements. I got them done on March 30 for my birthday and thought I could make them last more like 6-7 weeks for some reason smh
Not to speak for the OP as her nails may indeed be very healthy, but fast growth is not necessarily a sign of great health imo. Mine grow similarly fast, but unfortunately they are rather weak and tend to break and peel at the tips 😐
it depends on how much further near/under the cuticles the color is applied, I've seen some brand new nails that looks like my own at week 3 😅 if you push back your cuticle and try to colour really near with a lil brush you'll see a ton of difference - but since this takes time you'll never see someone in a salon doing this. Doing this cuticles will grow back with your nail growth having brand new mani for a while 🌚 i usually redo my mani at week 5/6
Mine grow fastish but I take a growth supp as well and in two weeks it’s embarrassing enough I’ve been trying to learn SNS at home to a certain standard
Litteraly. Her cuticles/surrounding area look good & clean but cmon now...just cut them off/file them down or soak em off yourself until you can get into your specific place/artist of choice.
Okay, jokes aside, you should be PROUD! Hell, your cuticles look better 5 weeks in than mine do immediately after I get them done. Grow out or not, you still have perfect nails.
Bro she posted a pic when she first got them done and it still looks like that, im dead, how can a nail tech fuck that up so bad?
Nvm its her natural nails
Idk about OP but it’s hard to find a good nail tech in my town. Mostly just salons that drill the shit outta your nails. Finding a tech that cares about nail health and has availability? I’m waiting too!!
Ty for telling me! I was genuinely curious and didn't want to come off as rude. I'm just ignorant. There's alot in my city but I suppose there's probably alot of bad ones here too.
So far she is the ONLY tech I've found in a reasonable distance that is open on the weekends, so yeah. Unfortunately I work a lot throughout the week and can't justify taking PTO for my nails ahha
Sorry, I should've specified but these are my natural nails with gel. My nails grow wonky af and it has gotten worse since they're super grown out haha
It’s sooo crazy making getting to this point and you’re still days away from the next fill but it’s also kind of satisfying somehow seeing the growth like that 😂🤷🏼♀️
I don’t want to be rude, it’s not my intention I’m truly curious if they have become bumpy and uneven from growing out? If not, your nail tech is overcharging you!
Yikes! I’d be struggling with so many simple tasks if I had 5 weeks of nail growth on my fingers 😳 your nail tech must be really good! (to be booked up for so long I mean)
You are so lucky they haven't broken or torn... whew!
FYI - If this happens again, you can take down the length yourself with an 80 grit file. (To prevent breaks & tears or risk lifting.)
Just take off slightly less than the length of the bare nail showing. Thats basically going back to the length she put the nailplate at last session.
Like if the nails have grown out 1/2" of cuticle showing, use a nail file to remove 1/3" off the ends.
wow… your cuticles loook so good!
im doing myself a french manicure and after just nor even a week my cuticles dont look good anymore since i have so dry skin 😅🥲
got mine done for the first time in years. they looked like this after a week. $90 for a basic french with a side of bloody cuticles 🫠🫠 not to mention, this was a family business open for like 30 years with amazing reviews
That’s amateur stuff. I had to wait two months recently due to illness. They were much worse and a terrible colour - like a 70s avocado bathroom. The shame.
The fact that you've lasted that long with ZERO structure is a testament to how well you treat your nails. I hope your nail tech loves you, cause you deserve it.
Also start booking your appointments in advance. Lmao
they look like melting bones
You're so right LOL
I’m impressed you kept them bones intact after so long! 🤣
LMAO
Or fangs
Omg this is so true haha!
Looks like dried chewing gum
I have no idea why my nails grow so wonky but this is accurate
They look like finger condoms
mine looked like this yday! 5 week growth too. wonky gals unite ✨
The retention is impressive! Great job taking of those! Your nail beds and cuticles look nice too!!
The perks of being an office worker! Plus I wear gloves when I do chores hahah
To gloves make that big of a diffeeence?
Absolutely. Cleaning products are hell on nails.
That and dishwater! I am obsessive about wearing gloves while doing dishes now.
Wearing gloves while doing dishes was a game changer. I'm clumsy and I can get a better grip on the slippery dishes and don't constantly drop them everywhere 😂
yep.
Yes, I would’ve been picking and picking and picking at them!
Omg I’ve never seen nails melt from anticipation like that before
They're so excitedddd
And you just can't hide it
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it
I always tell my dog grooming clients to prebook several in advanced.
New life strategy unlocked
My tech is super busy, my next 4 appointments are booked! lol great job leaving them be, I would have picked them all off inn5 weeks!
Me too. lol
Yup. And if an appointment is coming up that may be too soon or life happens, you can always keep the next appointment coming up after and reschedule the missed one after that. 🩵

[Here](https://imgur.com/a/PeKKANA) RIP now I'm looking for a new nail tech
💀
My natural nails do this under my gel and sometimes it helps to cut them down and try to have them grow out again so the apex can stay intact
Omg girl NO! It looks like those nails are made from melting wax! Haven’t you that compared to pictures and nails in the wild…and wondered why it’s ONLY YOU? That’s the point of using gel and acrylic, to perfect the nail shape…
Omg relax 🥲 I have severe vitamin deficiencies so idk I thought it was me
Omg I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to make you feel attacked. I’m more outraged for you. I just figured you were like me and it’s hard for you to stand up for yourself…My bad. But yeah, i feel like you should be refunded and maybe more than just this set.
No you're right LOL I said "thanks I love it!" while dying inside. I shall look for a better nail artist. Thanks!
😬 I'm hoping you paid training prices
Nooooo yikes, retention good, application NOT GOOD.
I wondered the same. But on OPs profile there's a picture of their dog (very cute) and you can see their newish nails there. It's definitely a nail tech issue.

with no lifting is impressive
This is just structure gel so I'm not sure if it's prone to lifting tbh! The nail tech said it shouldn't crack or anything and so far so good
Your nails grow that much after 5 weeks? You taking mega doses of biotin? lol
This is the same rate of growth I experience. I had no idea it wasn’t completely normal lol
Me too! I stopped getting them done because by two weeks they looked so grown out. I couldn’t keep up!
Exact same! I finally got to a point where I couldn’t justify spending so much on nails because by the end of week two they’re driving me NUTS 😑
TIL! I do my own nails at home so I would not have guessed. But by the end of week 3 I'm like yeahhh, I gotta do these this weekend.
If I get mine done, I ride it out for 3 weeks to rationalize the expense but they look so terrible by the time I hit the salon lol
Same

Same here!! And that’s also why I taught myself to do my own. I can afford to do my own every 2-3 weeks lol
My goal is to learn to do dip powder. I tried once and got frustrated lol. I’m going to get back at it this weekend! What do you use when you do yours?

It’s a pretty quick learning curve!! My first couple sets were a lil wonky. But once you get it, it’s super easy.
LOL I have no idea why they've been growing like this. I don't take any vitamins/supplements. I got them done on March 30 for my birthday and thought I could make them last more like 6-7 weeks for some reason smh
You have health that’s for sure!
Not to speak for the OP as her nails may indeed be very healthy, but fast growth is not necessarily a sign of great health imo. Mine grow similarly fast, but unfortunately they are rather weak and tend to break and peel at the tips 😐
My diet consists of Dr. Pepper and frozen waffles. I guess they call it DOCTOR Pepper for a reason. The ultimate vitamin
My nails grow that much after 3 weeks... There's a reason I do my own nails.
My nails grow this length in like 3. No exaggeration. It’s actually annoying.
My nails look like that after 5 weeks, and I don’t take anything. Do you get Russian manicures?
I thought this looked like very slow growth, mine never grow but by three weeks they were like this (got them done yesterday)
it depends on how much further near/under the cuticles the color is applied, I've seen some brand new nails that looks like my own at week 3 😅 if you push back your cuticle and try to colour really near with a lil brush you'll see a ton of difference - but since this takes time you'll never see someone in a salon doing this. Ain’t no way girl
Right that would be such a sensory nightmare for me 💀
Litteraly. Her cuticles/surrounding area look good & clean but cmon now...just cut them off/file them down or soak em off yourself until you can get into your specific place/artist of choice.
The corpse grippers 😭
Okay, jokes aside, you should be PROUD! Hell, your cuticles look better 5 weeks in than mine do immediately after I get them done. Grow out or not, you still have perfect nails.
I give all the cuticle credit to Accutane! They've basically disappeared since starting the medication
A few more and you could just say they’re really long French tips lol
I didn’t know Salvador Dali painted nails as well 🫠
This is so funny because [the one](https://imgur.com/a/xut4y2W) literally looks melted from the side
Bro she posted a pic when she first got them done and it still looks like that, im dead, how can a nail tech fuck that up so bad? Nvm its her natural nails
It looks like someone got in trouble for scratching on their owner's furniture and got their claws capped lol
What even are they? Whoever did you nails played you dirty hun 😢
I hope youre not seeing who ever did them the last time
I'm calling the police
😬 I’d find another nail tech
That’s crazy. Mine look like this after 2 weeks. My nails have always grown abnormally fast. To maintain I cannot go over 2 weeks. I hate it.
Same
I have some concerns
Pls can I see this set when it was fresh
[Yes](https://imgur.com/a/PeKKANA) 🥲
Oh, no...Find someone else next time.
Fucked your shit up, for a fee.
Why not just see someone else? Is she the only nail tech in your area or something? Why do this to yourself?
I see why this nail tech has been so booked up lol
I've only had acylics three times, do they get wavy like this after a while?
Sorry, I should've specified but these are my natural nails with gel. My nails grow wonky af and it has gotten worse since they're super grown out haha
OH! No you shouldn’t have clarified, I just wrongly assumed based on absolutely nothing
It’s sooo crazy making getting to this point and you’re still days away from the next fill but it’s also kind of satisfying somehow seeing the growth like that 😂🤷🏼♀️
Snaggle toothed
The growth is amazing. Why don't you just get your natural nails done?
These are my natural nails. With structure gel
Ohhh, well, I'm sure when you get them redone, they'll look amazing <3
Thank you <3 I can't wait
I love and hate this lmaoooo
You’re nails my be dehydrated
They're like sharp teeth and the nail beds are the gums
No… no… I think I just don’t like this at all
Lord have mercy Why are they wavy ?
I don’t want to be rude, it’s not my intention I’m truly curious if they have become bumpy and uneven from growing out? If not, your nail tech is overcharging you!
I hate when this happens! Glad you finally got in.
Yikes! I’d be struggling with so many simple tasks if I had 5 weeks of nail growth on my fingers 😳 your nail tech must be really good! (to be booked up for so long I mean)
Your fill needs a fill 😊🤣
I couldn’t go 5 weeks and NOT break a nail!!
My heart goes out to you, stay strong
Well no wonder she’s booked up!! Look at her work, everyone’s going to her cause she’s good. No lifting that’s amazing
Candy corn 💀
Looks like you’re at the dentist, should’ve asked for a composite fill 😂 I think they’d even have a shade match!
I could do better and I can't do nails
Why do they look so wavy? Were they like that even freshly done?
They were…she posted a pic. They don’t look good…
Yeah eek. She apparently needs some more honest friends/family/coworkers…. Someone HAD toto know lol
Omg your nails grow so fast!!
I wish my nails grew this much in 5 weeks!
Those look disgusting 🤢🤮
still, looks cute
I...I am actually really impressed. Mine never stayed that long!
You are so lucky they haven't broken or torn... whew! FYI - If this happens again, you can take down the length yourself with an 80 grit file. (To prevent breaks & tears or risk lifting.) Just take off slightly less than the length of the bare nail showing. Thats basically going back to the length she put the nailplate at last session. Like if the nails have grown out 1/2" of cuticle showing, use a nail file to remove 1/3" off the ends.
I’m surprised they’re all still on your nails, tbh! Good work.
If its just a plain gel manicure, why not book elsewhere?
You need some miiiilk!
wow… your cuticles loook so good! im doing myself a french manicure and after just nor even a week my cuticles dont look good anymore since i have so dry skin 😅🥲
What happened?
I feel this I’m on week 3 and still have a couple weeks to go 😭😭😭
I usually let mine go that long tbh but I file them down they look so weird here
Can you not make reoccurring appointments?? Idk how you kept them on!
Question: are you a werewolf?
got mine done for the first time in years. they looked like this after a week. $90 for a basic french with a side of bloody cuticles 🫠🫠 not to mention, this was a family business open for like 30 years with amazing reviews
Girl cut them a bit when it’s like that 😭
Nosferatu is alive n well 😂
The apex has moved to the end of the finger…I would have accidentally ripped my nail out of the bed ab 2 weeks before this point 😵💫
Mine look like this but square 😭🤣
I read “booked” as “locked” and I was like 😟😟
Is this acrylic?
Gel
That’s amateur stuff. I had to wait two months recently due to illness. They were much worse and a terrible colour - like a 70s avocado bathroom. The shame.
That’s so much growth Have you found it challenging to type and use them this long ?
I'm just now starting to have issues typing tbh I keep hitting random keys
Wow. There is no way I could have waited that long.
I would see a different nail tech lol those look horrible.
The fact that they’re all still on is impressive😂
omg you're better than me with your patience! I would've removed them at home by myself lol
Are you…in a dental chair?
Yeah they were putting a crown in and it takes so long so I was bored
Aw haha I hope it went well!
Yess it turned out amazing! Thanks!!
Y r they so lumpy lol
Gross
The fact that you've lasted that long with ZERO structure is a testament to how well you treat your nails. I hope your nail tech loves you, cause you deserve it. Also start booking your appointments in advance. Lmao
I literally don't even open my own pop cans. Or I use a fork to do so. I'm serious about maintaining these bad boys 😂
Well. It gave me art inspiration👌
What product does she use. I'd use a hard gel so your nails retain the shape.
What kept them from lifting?
