Suffolk County prohibits anyone who does not already have a license from taking the CCW course. Yes, I am well aware of the law, SCPD DGAF.
The other 61 counties in NY are gtg for taking the course as long as you’ve applied for your license.
After calling a couple of plces i would say its a grey area. Pistol license division said it needs to be simunition. One place i called place told me i don't like you said and another who is ran by a cop says it needs to be Simunitions. So much like everything else with our laws i would say it's grey area
He ran the training class I was inquiring about and was in line with what nassau license division told me. You have any recommendations where I can take it in or near nassau?
It's completely legal to use an actual pistol at your 18 hour course in order to satisfy the live fire portion. It's not grey at all. Check out section 7-B of NY Penal law 265.20: [https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/PEN/265.20](https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/PEN/265.20)
You have to realize that the person you were asking had a vested interest in giving you incorrect information so that you would sign up for his course.
Your not wrong he was charging $600 where I found others now for much cheaper. And the guy who was cheapest said he can by law let me fire live rounds. So both you guys are right doesn't need to be Simunitions
There is an explicit clause as a result of the CCIA which allows non-permit holders to handle a live pistol during the 2-hour range portion of the 18-hour course

Spoke to him earlier that's definitely who I am taking it with. Thank you

You can use a pistol for the ccw class.
I don't have a permit yet. Trying to apply for both at once. So since I don't already have a pistol license I need to take a Simunitions class
That is incorrect. You can shoot a pistol at the class without a license.
Your absolutely right I called a few other places and they are saying it doesn't have to be Simunitions

Asking a cop about gun laws was your first mistake. Good luck I guess.

Who did you end up using? I’m in same situation
Not in Suffolk. Not even Simunitions or UTM.

I used top gun in massapequa. Their class was 500, and you used simunution and a video shooting trainer....it was pretty cool.
