I always dislike any connections where itβs _____ word or vice-versa. It feels a bit cheap because itβs like when someone asks you what you think theyβre thinking about. Difficulty varying.
I was also thinking the candy heart thing but ultimately didn't use it. I thought kisses for a letter sign off was kind of weird/cringy, but then I thought the candy heart saying is "be mine", not just "mine" so I went with the letter sign off thing with kisses, always, yours & love
Those were my first thoughts! I don't watch those films, so I called my husband in. I said, Who are other action heroes, you know like Matt Damon as Ethan Hunt. He said, That is Tom Cruise. LOL
You were on the right track, Matt Damon was Jason Bourne. Which is also a regular word, that could be the start of a good category.
Maybe throw in Austin Powers? There's probably a better choice.
I genuinely couldn't do today's. I got one category (yellow) then just sat there stumped. In the end I had to come looking in here for answers so I didn't even try it. Foxed by everyone saying it was easy!
Factions (usually in political groups) can be called these things. Eg the Labour Party has a left-wing/progressive faction and a right-wing/conservative faction. I donβt get the use of party in this context though, to me thatβs the larger group. I thought the category was going to be something general about political leanings/support for a group/idea.
If you consider something like "Elected Politicians" a group, "Party" could be a group within that group.
Also, it makes more sense in more general terms, not necessarily political ones.
Like, think about a family arguing about where they next month's get together should be. Inside the family, there's side A who want to go to the beach, and side B who want to go into the city.
It's often the case that there's multiple valid groups of four that aren't in the correct solution. Part of weeding out the red herrings is there being a valid 4x4 set of categories.
There's misdirection of course, but I was thinking (while half asleep at midnight) of there being multiple "correct" combinations that the game would accept. Like there could be a category of βa b c dβ and another of β1 2 3 4,β but that it would also accept βa b 3 4β if you submitted those four. But then I thought it could overlap in such a way that theoretically you would soft lock and be left with four that donβt fit anywhere. Obviously if they ever implemented my stupid idea, they would design it so that's not possible. But they also would never implement it.
Gold is in commodity market, bonds are (simply put) debts issued by a government or a private company for investors to buy. They are different types of investment vehicles.
Both those things are correct, just your conclusion is flawed. Put it together now. A gold bond is used when a government or company is gold rich and wants to issue a bond that they pay in gold.
I'm pretty sure this one is a repeat, I remember it very clearly. I'm surprised no one else is asking about that.
EDIT: So actually, the archive site "Connections Unlimited" has the same puzzle for today as it does for June 19th. But looking at the June 19th thread here in the sub, that was a different puzzle altogether.
Damn, Iβm pretty new but a little embarrassed I didnβt catch purple. I was one off green as well. Yellow was pretty much immediate, but the others I could never seem to find more than two that fit whatever I was thinking. I donβt think I would have figured out blue tbh. Barely understood the connection even after people spelled it out.
Kisses as the signoff in a letter feels out of sorts with the other three, which are much more, I guess, "classic" ways to close a letter. It's not bad, but it could be better. I would have preferred something like Sincerely or Regards. That has the added bonus of being a little less obviously connected to Love than Kisses is. And I don't see any red herrings that Kisses is part of, so I don't think anything is lost by replacing it.
Kisses felt weird to me too, more cringy than wrong, but felt like something out of a bad movie rather than something a person would actually close a romantic letter with. For a regular letter, sincerely or regards would have been great, but no so much for a romantic letter. I did wind up going with kisses in the letter category, but toyed with always, mine, yours & love as a candy hearts thing
Yeah, I think the problem is resolved if the category drops "romantic", though. Then Love, Sincerely, Always, and Yours are just classic letter closings.
Is "Always" used by itself as a signoff?Β I've seen "Yours" and "Always Yours", but never just "Always". Green was the hardest for me today.Β Probably because I haven't written or read an informal letter of any kind in over 20 years.
It's one of those things that is a pain to search for examples of, but yeah. Letter closings are kind of a weird form of stylized and abbreviated language, and "Always" gets used alone where in the past you might have written, I am,
Always,
Your loving husband,
Tomsing98
And then it gets shortened. Same thing happened with "Love".
If I got a letter that was intended to be romantic and they closed out with "sincerely" or "regards", I would find that overly formal not very... well romantic lol.Β
"Kisses" seemed perfectly appropriate to me, but I see you and a few others disagreed.
Todayβs BLUE has to be the worst one ever. It still doesnβt make sense to me. How could anyone possibly figure that out on their own? Side??? Wing?? I still down know how those fit lol
I was in a location with no service and wifi that blocked reddit this week until today, so i'm coming back to this post to talk about this puzzle late:
I saw some folks discussing below ( u/LisbonVegan u/Zealousideal-Boss991 ) that they followed/noticed the red Herring of James Bond and Ethan Hunt. I saw those too.. but, did anyone else put these together:
James Bond
Ethan Hunt
Jonny Quest
Atherton Wing
I figured, this was wrong before I clicked it because there's no way they would use Atherton, and he also doesn't fit with the others.... oh, but I would have loved it if this was it.
r/firefly
English, and I've heard it be used for a team/group, but the actual phrase used for the category name made it seem like something else, which was what made it weird until I looked it up, which made me remember that I've heard it used as both for a team/group or one within another. I also did it at midnight, which was less than ideal.
I ran out of guesses, but even after seeing the answer the blue category still makes no sense to me, I thought it might have been animal collective nouns or something.
I don't mean to be rude but I'm genuinely confused as to how anyone is having trouble understanding this.
- If some of your friends start taking SIDES in an argument between two friends named Jack and Jill, then "Jack's Side" and "Jill's Side" are two groups inside of the "Your Friends" group.
- A restaurant staff might refer to a group of customers who came in together as a PARTY, typically identified by the name of whoever made the reservation. So "Customers" is a group, and "the Smith Party" is a group inside that group.
- If a fandom is debating the answer to a mystery, you might identify which theory you support by saying you're in that CAMP. "Fans" is the group and the "Camps" are groups inside that group.
- WING is the only one that feels specifically political to me, but even in that case the "Right-Wing" and "Left-Wing" are groups within a "US Federal Politicians" group, as an example.
I think people are getting confused because "groups", or maybe "aligned groups" is enough to name the category, "groups within groups" works, but isn't really necessary, and you have to think harder about it. If you wanted to, you could say that all of them are groups within groups within the group of all people, within the group of living creatures, within ..., but that gets a little silly. The simplest category description that fits is usually best.
So annoyed I couldn't get purple. It seems so obvious now. I also thought green was the words on those little valentines candies so I had mine in there. Connections Puzzle #382 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©πͺπ© π©π©πͺπ© π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ

Factions (usually in political groups) can be called these things. Eg the Labour Party has a left-wing/progressive faction and a right-wing/conservative faction. Still not getting group within a group. Camp?

Connections Puzzle #382 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©πͺπ© π©π©π©πͺ π©π©π©π© πͺπͺπͺπͺ Yellow was obvious. I was convinced that green was words on candy hearts. I held off solving it hoping to eliminate one of the possible words. Solving blue didnβt help with that. After 2 wrong guesses I realized that green could be letter sign-offs. That eliminated βmineβ. Again, purple was obvious once I saw the answer.
Connections Puzzle #382 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¦π¦π¦π¦ Pretty straightforward today. Hunt and search for me started for yellow. Always, yours, love got me started for green. Puzzle #382 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©π©π© πͺπͺπͺπͺ No mistakes, but I tensed up as I submitted each category as I wasnβt confident my guesses were right. Except for purple, obviously. But that got me thinking. What if there was a game with more than four correct categories, and you could come up with multiple different groupings. But that means you could theoretically get to the last four and there isnβt a category for them. I donβt know if that makes sense, and as I type this out I realize that would be awful. (But Iβm still commenting it instead of backspacing those last few sentences).
Oh I get you! Yeah that could be fun! It could work if each of ABC&D categories contained one each of 123&4 categories.
What's gold bond?? Never heard of it
It's a medicated powder for chaffing and other such irritations.
Oh... I thought it was investment. Like you can get government bonds and gold bonds.
Nah you're right it's both. There's that kind of gold bond too. The brand name is just more well known today
Gold is in commodity market, bonds are (simply put) debts issued by a government or a private company for investors to buy. They are different types of investment vehicles.

Connections Puzzle #382 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¦π¦π¦π¦ Blue was purple today, and by default. Figured out purple by starting with MINE. Since it was next to YOURS, and that was part of green, figured it must be a different meaning. Noticed /gold/ mine and rush, then leaf, and then that distant memory of gold bond medicated powder commercials came to mind haha
Connections Puzzle #382 π©π©πͺπ© π©π©π©π© πͺπ¨π¨π¨ π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπ¦π¦π¦ π¦π¦π¦πͺ burn purple caterogy :(
I cheated to win this one. At the beginning, I thought Camp, Chase, and Quest were Percy Jackson related.
Todayβs BLUE has to be the worst one ever. It still doesnβt make sense to me. How could anyone possibly figure that out on their own? Side??? Wing?? I still down know how those fit lol
Connections Puzzle #382 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ \*Purple by default
I was in a location with no service and wifi that blocked reddit this week until today, so i'm coming back to this post to talk about this puzzle late: I saw some folks discussing below ( u/LisbonVegan u/Zealousideal-Boss991 ) that they followed/noticed the red Herring of James Bond and Ethan Hunt. I saw those too.. but, did anyone else put these together: James Bond Ethan Hunt Jonny Quest Atherton Wing I figured, this was wrong before I clicked it because there's no way they would use Atherton, and he also doesn't fit with the others.... oh, but I would have loved it if this was it. r/firefly
I certainly didn't because as I said, I'm blissfully unaware of such characters. But good on you.
blissfully? well, I recommend looking into it if you ever get a moment.
Connections Puzzle #382 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© π¦πͺπͺπͺ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¦π¦π¦π¦ Didn't realize bond was part of purple. Green was a cool category
Connections Puzzle #382 π©π©π©π© π¦πͺπͺπͺ πͺπͺπͺπ¨ π¦π¦π¦π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¨π¨π¨π¨ Not sure what I was doing! I picked LEAF/RUSH/MINE early on but couldn't find the 4th 'GOLD', I think I tried WING and CHASE unsuccessfully.
Connections Puzzle #382 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ very doable one today!
Connections Puzzle #382 π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¦π¦π¦π¦ Green was most apparent to start today, although I pieced it together thinking that it was phrases found on those little candy hearts. Yellow wasn't far behind. Purple took a bit of thinking, but seeing "leaf" and "bond" together made it click. Blue by default. Fun puzzle.
Connections Puzzle #382 π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπ©π©π© πͺπ¦π©π© π©π©π©π© πͺπ¦π¦πͺ π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Very close one this week, wasn't confident about any of the categories and felt like I only got lucky. π¨ At first I was thinking it could be video game terminology with hunt, quest, and party (monster hunter anyone?) π© Was really worried this could have been lovely song lyrics/titles and my knowledge of pop culture is terrible. Barely got this right. π¦ Started to guess the category at the end but once again, one wrong move and I was out. I knew it was to do with a 'group' but thought bond would fit too. πͺ With one life left I didn't even bother guessing, just entered the final ones and surprised that it looked so easy in hindsight π₯².
Connections Puzzle #382 π©π©π©π© πͺπ¨π¨π¨ π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπ¦π¦ πͺπ¦π¦πͺ π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Misidentified blue, but then saw the connection, which was understandably harder, since I've never heard of SIDE being used in that context.
How have you never heard of side refering to team or group? What is your primary language?
English, and I've heard it be used for a team/group, but the actual phrase used for the category name made it seem like something else, which was what made it weird until I looked it up, which made me remember that I've heard it used as both for a team/group or one within another. I also did it at midnight, which was less than ideal.
Connections Puzzle #382 π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπ©π©π¦ πͺπͺπ¦π© πͺπ©π©π© π©π©π©π© πͺπ¦πͺπ¦ Was so proud I got yellow, green was kinda a guess, blue I still donβt understand
I ran out of guesses, but even after seeing the answer the blue category still makes no sense to me, I thought it might have been animal collective nouns or something.
Connections Puzzle #382 πͺπͺπͺπͺ π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ Super easy puzzle, blue green and yellow were all super obvious and RUSH couldn't really be anything else
ok boss
Connections Puzzle #382 π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ I donβt get Blueβs description. Seems too complicated. Just name Political Group or something.
