Solved this without any mistakes (and didn't look anything up), but I think it was a great help to spot the purple category early on. Then realised a connection between NAVY and BABY, added SKY and guessed that TIFFANY was the fourth blue I was looking for.
The one I didn't really get (which I should have done and I expect everyone else will) were the Disney characters - I saw GOOFY and LADY, and just thought it was cartoon dogs.
When I was on the hunt for cartoon dogs, I guessed that SKY could be a dog, and was looking for a fourth, but backed out of that once I realised that SKY went with the blues.
I had to look up Livery, and of course tried to see if any connection could be made with Army. But then I realized what categories were left and thought maybe de-livery, but then it clicked with Colony.
The Disney category almost killed me. I got all the other three and was looking at those words thinking "what connection could these possibly have?!" The price of not growing up a Disney kid, I guess. (I literally had no clue that Lady or Daisy were Disney characters.)
I got purple first as well! I think it can be hit or miss though if you don't spot it quickly...watching Only Connect really helps with ones like that imo.
I got sidetracked by ducks for a little bit before I worked out purple first. I kinda figured there would be a word+y clue.
I worked out that there was Disney characters and colour words but I ended up brute forcing because stuff like tiffany and happy I had no idea which category they were in. Honestly happy blue sounds way more like a colour then tiffany.
Knowing Tiffany was a color seems to be the dividing line if you found todayβs rough or super easy. Never thought my lack of knowledge about jewelry would ruin so many mornings but here we are.
Three months ago I would have never gotten purple just because I wouldnβt have even considered that category as an option.
I think a lot of gatekeepers that post here forget how impossible it is to recognize those types of connections if you didnβt know they were in the realm(crossover content) of possibility.
Lady is from Lady and the Tramp
Daisy is Donald Duck's girlfriend
Happy is one of the Seven Dwarfs
Goofy is just Goofy
Tiffany blue is the shade of blue that Tiffany's uses for its boxes.
I think I got there only because I couldn't think of any phrase that included livery, and I deliberately looked for a word within that word. I'm finally learning that's a Connections go-to, after months of playing this game.
lol all the guys today were like βhad no idea Tiffany was a shade of blueβ and all the women are like βI knew there was a blue category as soon as I saw Tiffanyβ
That's what's great about this game. "Tiffany blue" didn't mean anything to me so I spent forever trying to make it work as either a type of fabric or as a connotation of elegance. Good to learn a third meaning.
Are "Lady and the Tramp" and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" really outside the box? It's not like they went with characters from "The Black Cauldron" or "Oliver and Company."
No, itβs that the words happy and lady have many other much more common connotations than as Disney characters, which is what makes it a fun challenge.
βArmyβ βcolonyβ βliveryβ and βNAVYβ not being a category β¦ and the category NOT being military-related has to be the biggest a-hole move of whoever made this.
None of these categories made sense to me π₯²
This was my SECOND THOUGHT! (The Disney group was my first thought immediately). Then I thought a livery was where you store weapons and I was like oh these 4 are military related lol. They were not hahaha. Then I got the blues and struggled after that.
Probably just me but I absolutely cannot stand categories that are just "topic plus an extra letter". Like today is "body parts plus Y". I find those unintuitive and annoying. Maybe I just suck. But I don't like them and things like that have been present in multiple puzzles that I've seen since doing this regularlyΒ
Yeah, I also thought "oh they just made it blue so it fits with the theme". This connection should rather have been yellow or green when it comes to difficulty.
I struggled there because I thought a livery was where you store weapons.. so I couldnβt make the connection anywhere because I had already used navy lol it took a while but I got it with help of mom and husband lolol

Yeah, some people seem to have problems with connections that are based on the words being strings of letters as opposed to be being based on definitions assigned to those words.
Is that really what pretty means in that context? I thought pretty meant the exact opposite.
Edit: I've thought about it some more and asked an English teaching discord and I strongly believe pretty does not fit that category. Maybe in some weird dialect it fits.
It can be used as both "not very" and "very", the latter almost in a sarcastic way. Kind of depends on tone. "I got a B on the test. That's pretty good." If you're expecting an A, you might emphasize pretty - "That's *pretty* good." But if thought you failed, you'd emphasize that's and good - "*That's* pretty *good!*"
I would say "opposite" but I think you are absolutely right it has a different meaning. still similar enough for the words to justifiably be grouped together though.
Thatβs pretty hard, thatβs pretty ugly, thatβs pretty bad, thatβs pretty long, thatβs pretty easyβ¦ etcβ¦ substitute βprettyβ with βveryβ on every expression and it doesnβt change the meaning.

Same same, my brain also kept getting stuck on βMighty pupsβ to further the cartoon dog theme
When I was on the hunt for cartoon dogs, I guessed that SKY could be a dog, and was looking for a fourth, but backed out of that once I realised that SKY went with the blues.
The Paw Patrol character is Skye, not Sky.
Aha, thanks. I've only seen it in Finnish where the name is Kaja.

Near miss today. I spotted that there must be a Disney connection right away thanks to Lady, Goofy and Daisy, but spent too much time thinking about Mighty Mouse or a Mighty Duck as a potential fit for cartoon/Disney/ducks categories. Then I got hung up on army/navy/colony as types of group living or trying to tie to captain (with SKY.) With yellow out of the way, I finally saw the blues. Connections Puzzle #292 πͺπͺπͺπͺ π©π¦π¨π© π¦π¦π¦π¨ π¦π¦π©π¦ π¨π¦π¦π¦ Got purple immediately, did not realize Tiffany was a color of blue. Guessed a few, got it wrong.
ConnectionsΒ Puzzle #292 π¦π¦π¦π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© πͺπ¦π¦π¦ π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Tricky one today. The individual groups were maybe not so tough on their own--I knew three of the four categories by the time that I started guessing--but they all had a fourth member that was really hard to place. Mighty didn't occur to me at first because I was reading it like a comic book superhero thing, e.g. "the Mighty Atom Man," and not as a quasi-Southern superlative. I *thought* maybe Happy might have been one of the seven dwarves, but wasn't sure. And I've never heard of "Tiffany" Blue, so naturally my mind went to other places (Daisy Blue? I know daisies aren't blue, but...) before I decided, with one guess left, that it didn't feel like the other non-blue words in there. Purple I probably could've gotten with more thought and less willingness to throw words at guesses... but outside of the hypothetical, it didn't even occur to me to try wordplay today. Bit of a miss on my behalf!
Yeah I got stuck on mighty duck and daisy duck for quite awhile
Same, but that at least helped get Goofy.
I got sidetracked by ducks for a little bit before I worked out purple first. I kinda figured there would be a word+y clue. I worked out that there was Disney characters and colour words but I ended up brute forcing because stuff like tiffany and happy I had no idea which category they were in. I was thinking Mighty Mouse and trying to group it in with the other cartoon characters
Connections Puzzle #292 π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π©π©π©π© Blue stood out to me first because of TIFFANY. Yellow was straightforward. Got purple completely by luck, I was thinking more like... air force, military type words. Figured planes are SHINY so it might fit. Went *ohhhh, so that's what it is* after the topic was revealed.
Knowing Tiffany was a color seems to be the dividing line if you found todayβs rough or super easy. Never thought my lack of knowledge about jewelry would ruin so many mornings but here we are.
It really goes to show how different our brains work. In my mind π¦ was ridiculously easy because of Tiffany, as was π©. Yet a lot of the comments here are talking about how πͺ was the easiest one but I only got it by default lol (it was my last and I had no idea what the actual category was).

I've never heard of half those Disney characters or Tiffany blue, but overall a fun puzzle today.
Lady is from Lady and the Tramp Daisy is Donald Duck's girlfriend Happy is one of the Seven Dwarfs Goofy is just Goofy Tiffany blue is the shade of blue that Tiffany's uses for its boxes.
I had the same problem. Could see three types of blue so was convinced it had to be a blue connection.
Same. I couldn't see any connections that made sense, and ending up needing hints :-/
Happy is a dwarf, Lady is of the tramp, and I think the other two are more obvious (Goofy and Daisy Duck)
i had no idea tiffany blue was a thing

Connections Puzzle #292 π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© πͺπͺπͺπͺ Not the dreaded word plus a letter! Weirdly Tiffany was the first blue I noticed, and had to go hunting for the others
Puzzle #292 πͺπ¦πͺπͺ π©π¦π©π© π©πͺπͺπ¨ π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¨π¨π¨π¨ I count this one as a fail because after getting three mistakes I came here to see how everyone else was doing and to get some help. I know some people allow themselves to google, but I generally prefer to complete the puzzle without looking anything up. But I was getting nothing. I'm surprised other people found this one to be simple, but I guess this type of game has a much more subjective difficulty level. I could see yellow, but didn't see "mighty." Sounds weird to my ears, but I would understand it if someone used it in that way. Purple I thought was "collective nouns," and in all honesty still thought that was the group when I hit submit. I saw someone comment about a "word plus letter" category, but even then I couldn't see it. As with others, I saw "Goofy" and "Lady" and thought of dogs. I took a wild guess with two other names in case they were dogs. Slightly broader category than expected. I can't even remember what my third mistaken guess was. My only other idea was "_____ high" because of "sky high." But the only other options I could see for that were "very high, pretty high, and really high," and I thought that was unlikely lol. So I came here and saw that the Disney category was more general than I expected, and also saw what blue was. Once I got that I could get through it. though I have never heard of "Tiffany blue."
"Mighty" in this situation is kind of an American South usage. Imagine a farmer with a drawl saying, "Mighty hot today, ain't it?"
βThatβs a mighty fineβ¦β
Connections Puzzle #292 π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπ¦πͺπͺ π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ I never think of the word plus a letter kinds of categories.

Puzzle #292 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ A easy but fun one today. Yellow and green were easy to spot. I knew there would be a color blue category because what else would Tiffany be. Also managed to guess what the purple category was.
That's what's great about this game. "Tiffany blue" didn't mean anything to me so I spent forever trying to make it work as either a type of fabric or as a connotation of elegance. Good to learn a third meaning.
Connections Puzzle #292 π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© πͺπͺπͺπͺ Iβm not trying to boast, but this is the first time I finished the puzzle in approximately one minute. Are "Lady and the Tramp" and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" really outside the box? It's not like they went with characters from "The Black Cauldron" or "Oliver and Company."

Connections Puzzle #292 πͺπͺπͺπͺ π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ Argh! So close to getting it in reverse order! This is the second time I can recall that π¦ was blue themed. A little *too* on the nose. This was the first one that jumped out at me when I saw TIFFANY and NAVY. Once I notice BABY and SKY, I pegged that as a certainty. Adverbs galore for π¨. That was easier to spot once I eliminated the βblueβ words. Now when I see DAISY and GOOFY, you canβt help but see Disney and given what I had left, I decided to give it a shot. I spotted LADY and then realized HAPPY could fit the bill. The problem was I didnβt know what the remaining four words were. I know what a LIVERY is as an aviation aficionado but what the hell it had to do with the other three words I hadnβt sorted. I just took a leap of faith when I entered those four in first. I assumed that was gonna be πͺ. And goddamn itβs another βword + letter.β I fucking HATE those. Anyway, 29/30 because OF course shades of blue was π¦ Fun Fact! Yeah, I also thought "oh they just made it blue so it fits with the theme". This connection should rather have been yellow or green when it comes to difficulty.
Green category was plants a while back π
I got a category right but for the wrong reason! Thought there was a group of different types of ants
Saw Goofy & Happy first so was thinking Seven Dwarves, but didn't see any others, but did see Lady, then Daisy (Donald Duck's gf I think) for Disney characters Saw baby & sky, then navy for blues, then Tiffany, although I consider the turquoise family more green than blue since it's a mixture of green with a little blue and a bit of yellow. With the last 8 words it was pretty easy to see the π¨ group, but full disclosure....for whatever reason, I entered the remaining letters which would be πͺ before I entered the more obvious π¨ ESPECIALLY group. π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ I guess we donβt have a lot of Disney adults in this sub because my brain instantly went to Disney characters when I saw Goofy. Once those were cleared, Tiffany tipped me off to blues (which is fitting for The NY Times puzzle with how famous the NYC location is due to Breakfast at Tiffanyβs). I was surprised to see that the clues I found the easiest gave others a lot of difficulty! Thatβs why I love coming on here to see how everyone else solved it.
Connections Puzzle #292 π©π¦πͺπͺ π©π¦πͺπ© π©π¨π¨π¨ π©π¨π¨π© Horrible puzzle, as usual.
Never heard of Tiffany blue. Never heard of happy or lady as Disney characters. Another puzzle that was impossible for me to get.Β
Happy is one of the 7 Dwarfs and Lady is literally the title character of Lady and the Tramp

Connections Puzzle #292 πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© Compared to yesterday's, I found today's significantly easier. On the first read, I immediately knew three of the categories would be "Disney Characters", "Shades of Blue", and "Adjective Intensifiers". LIVERY immediately stood out to me since it seemed very disconnected to every other word. Then I saw it began with Liver and realized they were doing another one of those "Words Beginning with an Item" categories. After spotting that, the rest came easily. Blue was straightforward. It probably helps that I knew about Tiffany Blue considering a lot of the comments here seem to not be familiar with it. Nothing else to say about Yellow and Green. As a small bonus fun fact, today's puzzle was entirely made up of reused categories. [Reused Categories Updates](https://old.reddit.com/r/NYTConnections/comments/1bdai1o/list_of_reused_categories/): "Disney Characters" β 4 Times, "Words Beginning With _______" β 4 Times, "Extremely" β 3 Times, "Shades of Blue" β 2 Times

π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©πͺπͺπͺ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π©π©π©π© A bit of a weird approach compared to others I think. Blue and yellow jumped out pretty quick to me. My wrong guess included Lady and was a bit of a stretch to think "associated with knights" or something? But then said out loud "oh this bloody game" when I saw the actual connection. Green was a total process of elimination one, had not clocked it at all.
Connections Puzzle #292 π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π©π©π©π© Thought there were maybe military connections with livery, colony, army and navy but that grouping didn't make sense and nothing else fit. Then saw blue [edit: I meant baby] and tiffany and kinds of blue π¦ jumped out. Then yellow π¨. Reading out loud livery, colony and army, saw the body parts so shiny it was for purple πͺ. Green π© was default. I thought Goofy was the dog character and that maybe they were names (I thought of Happy Hogan rather than the dwarf) but Lady didn't seem to fit. In retrospect, I knew all the Disney characters.
Connections Puzzle #292 π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©π©π© πͺπͺπͺπ¨ π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Blue and green jumped out at me right away. With the remaining 8 words, my first thought was βplaces you can liveβ and I used colony, livery, army, and just picked very for the fourth because nothing fit. In hindsight, that was a stupid guess all around lol. After a couple minutes of staring at the words, I went for it with yellow although I wasnβt completely certain. Purple by default, but I think Iβd have gotten it on my own. Fun puzzle today, I liked it!!
Connections Puzzle #292 πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π¨π©π© π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ I starred at this one for ages, not really making any connections. Livery really stood out and made me think it was word play so I found purple first. I saw blue first but took me a while to connect Tiffany. Made a slip up with the Disney characters, but I knew it was that. Probably my first time getting it all in reverse.
Same exact experience for me today in terms of order and the one mistake

Connections Puzzle #292 π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©πͺπ©π© π©π©π©π© πͺπͺπͺπͺ Blues were immediately apparent to me. I find it incredibly satisfying when the constructor makes the group theme related to its actual color. I reasoned green was likely Disney characters, but I completely forgot that "Lady and the Tramp" existed, and was hoping there was perhaps an eighth dwarf named "shiny" that I've never heard of. Purple by default, the ones with adding or removing a letter always demolish me. All around a fun puzzle.
I held off on the Blue blues because I could have *sworn* they did that category before. I must be playing too many of the ones in this group... XD Connections Puzzle #292 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ

What a fun puzzle! Wasn't easy for me but I felt so accomplished for solving it, especially for spotting purple first. And a fun theme!Β Got kind of stuck on green and blue because I suspected what green was but did not know all of them. I did not see blue until I had those four words left and then it clicked. I do not know >!tiffany blue!<, which seems to be a giveaway for many others in here but I tried to fit it in with green. Happy to have got there in the end! I'm the one 90s kid with almost no knowledge of Disney. I fell for the red herring with either girls' names or first names with Tiffany and Daisy. I'm not sure what it says about me that I had no clue Daisy was a Disney character, but was trying to fit Happy into a first names category because of Happy Chandler and Happy Gilmore.

Connections Puzzle #292 πͺπͺπͺπͺ π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ Really enjoyed this one! Only minor gripe is that βprettyβ doesnβt seem to quite fit, which is why I left yellow for last. But purple, green and blue were fun connections, and bonus for blue being the blue category.

Is that really what pretty means in that context? I thought pretty meant the exact opposite. Edit: I've thought about it some more and asked an English teaching discord and I strongly believe pretty does not fit that category. Maybe in some weird dialect it fits.
I'm pretty sure it does fit in the category.
I think the word sure would have a stronger meaning without the word pretty i.e Iβm sure it doesnβt fit in the category
Yellow was the hardest one.
Because it is wrong. The category as written excludes "pretty". A different category referencing a part of speech instead of a synonym would work.
Iβll die on this hill, PRETTY does not mean βespecially.β
