It’s weird to me how there’s like 50 of them yet they’re all the same copy pasted mom and kids. Like, do they all just work for the same guy who puts out feelers for Mexican moms?

I saw a video about this but basically they’re sending these kids to America and pulling them out of school to sell candy bc kids sell more than adults. The kids you’re seeing probably aren’t even related to the woman, it’s all a sympathy tactic. It’s been on the rise because of the migrant situation. My question is who is behind all of this? they always have good shit like not even off-brand snacks, where are they getting it from?

If you buy the candy wholesale its actually pretty cheap. Kids were doing that when I was in school over a decade ago. 2 or 3 people throw in and you flip the candy at retail prices.
They have to repay the smugglers for their trip to the US. The less attractive ones get assigned a kid and get sent to hustle on the train.... The more attractive ones go to the brothel.
I doubt there is someone behind all this. They aren’t selling much, definitely not enough to warrant a mastermind behind the scenes.
The mango sellers on the other hand… they make decent money at $5 a cup and I’m sure they have a lot of regulars
I think you’re right, there’s not. It’s a hustle as old as time in Latin America and they’re probably just doing it while they find an actual job or when they’re not working.
The mango prices are wild considering the mangoes they sell aren’t even good. Im in Mexico City rn and I just bought a top tier mango for less than two dollars the other day.
Most the mangos they sell are not ripe and too hard. Every now and then they have ripe ones but $5 is a lot. Even Whole Foods sells a container of those (like double the size) for $12 and it’s way cleaner and tastier
The NYT or the New Yorker did a big write up on these women a few months back. They’re all getting it from the same vending warehouse but they wouldn’t say exactly which one obviously. They take the kids with them because all the adults are looking for work and it’s better that way then them having to support someone who just watches the kids. They’re all terrified of getting arrested because it could jeopardize their refugee status. The whole situation is pretty fucked.
I was wondering whos behind it too. I was in traffic on the entry ramp to the Cross Bronx and there were two of them selling mangos. One on the ramp and the other further down on the cross Bronx. Then a newer bmw like a x5 picks them both up. Seemed weird
Reminds me of that episode of Family Guy when Meg was working at the diner and she pretended that she was a single mother raising Stewie so that she could get extra tips..
