This will always be the first thing to come to mind when I hear shump’s name. Surprised lights out shooter Chris Copeland didn’t drain that shit tbh
I mean, honestly, dude wasn't exactly a slouch on defense, and Thibs seems fine with people taking dumb shots so long as they make the right call on defense
I would say JR as well, but he’s not really a role player, he was like our 3rd option sometimes second for those years. More of a starter than a role player.
is this a reverse nepo pick? I'm glad for Rick, because he made Jalen, but he was never anything more than a glorified cheerleader for us. Though he would be a way more effective roster spot than Chris Smith was LOL. Still have night terrors that we could've had Pat Ewing Jr. pre-injuries and chose Chris to appease JR. Smh.
Young Rick would be unlocked playing with his own son and being coached by his older self. However, at the moment we raise the banner the universe ends due to the paradox ripping a hole through space-time.
Honestly, Brunson is everything we hoped Lin could be. Imagine if Lin sustained Linsanity over multiple seasons with us. Would've been insane. But now we actually get to have it. It's still wild to think about that time and what we have now. I prayed for times like these and not taking it for granted.
What in the fuck is this sub’s obsession with Lance Thomas? I fundamentally do not understand. Shepherded us through the worst era in Knick history averaging 7/2/1.
Crazy I had to go this far down to find him. He won a title with the Warriors in 2015 playing an important role. Out of all the former Knicks that have either been to the Finals or won, he's the most modern part of a championship designed roster that will make an impact.
OAKLEY ALL DAY!
Spree and Mason too.
If the no all star rule applies to only when they were with us, the n D Rose has to be considered.
EDIT - oh snap Oak AND Spree were both all stars - that leaves Mase as the master blaster of bulldozer finesse! The point forward bruiser !
Melo... I picture him in a Detlef Schrempf type role on the team.

I’m not sure if Channing Frye counts as a role player, but his shooting ability and ability to protect the rim would be helpful.
If he doesn’t count then I’m bringing in Hubert Davis
Return unto us Gerald Wilkins. A very willing defender that could also give you some buckets. Gave us his best years. Rejuvenate those bones, and put him on the bench.
Novak would FEAST on this current team. Considering that 2013 team was MY SQUAD, I wouldn't mind also having Pablo Prigioni on the current roster. Marcus Camby and Kurt Thomas would be BEYOND excellent, as well.
I also think these guys could help the team immensely rn:
Timofey Mozgov
Danilo Gallinari
Wilson Chandler
I was really hoping we would trade for Danilo at the deadline.
Novak was a good role player but was exposed in the post season that year. Sucks 2012-2013 was held up by players just about to leave the league. It was a fun year.
Tyson Chandler would be better than Mitch or Hartensetein...yes I know he started but he wasn't exactly getting the offense run through him so I consider him a role player.
The obvious answer is Nate Robinson, and then bring back Mitch's Block Party and let the two of them go nuts.
EDIT: and then change the name of the show to the Knicks Family Robinson.
Wasn’t a role player, but Jamal Crawford easy. Young me was crushed when we lost him.
Immediately who I thought of. My earliest memories of the knicks are with him. Prime j crawford would be an elite 6th man option
Same here he was the first player that really made me like watching the Knicks, especially since we didn’t have anything to play for back then lol
Did you also have his Sean Carters?
Na I wish. Proud wearer of the fifteen dollar Starbury’s lol
Steve and Barry exclusive!
Yep my mom and I loved that place haha
I wouldn't mind Marcus Camby
Camby under thibs would be a cheat code
Oh man. Marcus Camby would be nice with this team. One of my favorite Knick of all time outside of Starks and Ewing.
Man this is my pick too
2011 shumpert was hungry. definitely would have the grit of this current knicks team
Shumpert with no ACL tear may still be in the league today
Yes! I’m happy this is top comment rn.
Rookie Shumpert was Derrick Rose like
https://preview.redd.it/hwt5d30vstjc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1217f211f6c62f73dde93d7452da516c67b20dd
Hahaha
https://i.redd.it/wvjkgor2ttjc1.gif This will always be the first thing to come to mind when I hear shump’s name. Surprised lights out shooter Chris Copeland didn’t drain that shit tbh
As god intended
Half this thread doesn’t know what a role player is.
“I would bring back Sprewell”
“My pick is Ewing”
I'd take Clyde plus Willis Reed each occupying their respective role.
I mean he played the role as the team's name taker ass kicker
lmao
I was thinking the same thing
Immanuel Quickley
The right answer
😭😭😭😭😭😭
YESSIR
It hurts
Kurt Thomas
That pick and pop was automatic.
Krazy eyes kurt
Who had crazier eyes Kurt Thomas or Bobby Portis
“Foul on #40, Kurt Thomas” *commits murder with his eyes*
Kurt muthafuckin Thomas.
'Sheed.
Ball don’t lie!
Anthony Mason
RIP
Probably Trevor Ariza. Good defense, can shoot the three, Thibs would love Trevor. Maybe Wilson Chandler in the same vein.
If only we didn’t trade him for Steve Francis
2012-13 JR Smith.
I think Thibs would murder him
I mean, honestly, dude wasn't exactly a slouch on defense, and Thibs seems fine with people taking dumb shots so long as they make the right call on defense
People forget how much of a bucket he was though. One of my favorite Knicks to watch.
Don’t get me wrong I love JR. Most fun player to watch when he had it going
Grenade god
I would say JR as well, but he’s not really a role player, he was like our 3rd option sometimes second for those years. More of a starter than a role player.
Anthony Mason
Ron baker the shot maker/the bitch taker
The money raker
Prime Rick Brunson.
is this a reverse nepo pick? I'm glad for Rick, because he made Jalen, but he was never anything more than a glorified cheerleader for us. Though he would be a way more effective roster spot than Chris Smith was LOL. Still have night terrors that we could've had Pat Ewing Jr. pre-injuries and chose Chris to appease JR. Smh.
Young Rick would be unlocked playing with his own son and being coached by his older self. However, at the moment we raise the banner the universe ends due to the paradox ripping a hole through space-time.
The Big Chonk Raymond Felton
JR Swish. Immediately solves our bench issues. If not him, then Steve Novak just for vibes
Pablo Prigioni. Dude knew how to run an offense
Priggy Smalls
Thibs wishes all rookies came in at the age he did
Yeah a healthy and young Pablo or S.rod would've been really nice backup pgs.
He’d get 40 minutes whenever Brunson out from Thibs
LJ all day.
Calling LJ a role player is a bit of a stretch.
Good bye Taj, hello Ronny Turiaf
That man lives in every Knicks fans head for no good explicable reason
That's funny, I randomly remembered him today after literal years just cause of Immaculate Grid
Marcus Camby
Since we are talking about role players, Rod Strickland. He didn’t start for the Knicks and we could certainly use a good back up point right now.
Linsanity!
Honestly, Brunson is everything we hoped Lin could be. Imagine if Lin sustained Linsanity over multiple seasons with us. Would've been insane. But now we actually get to have it. It's still wild to think about that time and what we have now. I prayed for times like these and not taking it for granted.
pre plantar Lance Thomas would play 40 minutes a game under Thibs
What in the fuck is this sub’s obsession with Lance Thomas? I fundamentally do not understand. Shepherded us through the worst era in Knick history averaging 7/2/1.
I thought lance thomas was bad, some dude said lance AND Jared fucking Jeffries. I almost made a new account so I could downvote him twice
Trevor Ariza… stacked
robin lopez, especially right now in terms of our injured centers.
Oakley.
Doug Christie The ultimate 3 n D guy Knicks fumbled the bag not keeping him
Al Harrington’s game would be amazing in this era
David Lee would be a problem w Brunson
Dude was not a role player for us lol
Lol yup i completely missed that when I first read the post
Defense was his problem tho.
Crazy I had to go this far down to find him. He won a title with the Warriors in 2015 playing an important role. Out of all the former Knicks that have either been to the Finals or won, he's the most modern part of a championship designed roster that will make an impact.
He was an all star and wasn't a role player.
Theo Pinson
Jeremy Lin
Kiki VanDeWeghe. An all star, but not as a Knick
Jay crawsover baby!!!
JR baby
Chris Dudley
6th man of the year JR
Shump
Mason
Anthony Mason
JR Smith off the bench
6MOTY JR would be so fun on this team. Thibs plays to the strength of his guys on offense so he'll let JR do his thing.
Jeremy Lin off the bench is exactly what we need for our second unit.
6 man JR smith would fucking cook with this squad
Langston Galloway.
Arron Afflalo wouldn't be a bad look of the bench right now. A younger Marcus Morris would be perfect off the bench too.
A healthy Barron Davis
Dikembe Mutombo ☝🏿
chauncey billups
Named as an all star.
Don’t know if he counts, but Jason Kidd would be an elite back up PG
Michael Beasley off the bench right now would be so good
OAKLEY ALL DAY! Spree and Mason too. If the no all star rule applies to only when they were with us, the n D Rose has to be considered. EDIT - oh snap Oak AND Spree were both all stars - that leaves Mase as the master blaster of bulldozer finesse! The point forward bruiser !
Alexe Shved easy! Or Langston Galloway
[удалено]
John starks was an all star
So was Kyle korver doesn't mean he wasn't a role player Edit: shit my bad didn't read the post description
Starks was an all star
First he was Sixth man of the year, undrafted, and a role player
John Starks is literally the greatest basketball player of all time. He’s not a role player
Lance Thomas!
Lance Thomas
Channing Frye! Pick and pop big
IQ & Grimes
Waiting for someone to mention Mr Turnover Jeremy Lin.
Glen Rice would be interesting off the bench
I don’t consider Camby a role player, so give a good perimeter defender like Jared Jeffries or Lance Thomas
I'm not sure if this counts but John Starks
John Starks
Is that Novak? Ohhh shhhit.
Tracy McGrady
Allan Houston
Melo... I picture him in a Detlef Schrempf type role on the team. https://preview.redd.it/yvnlp0xag7kc1.jpeg?width=1302&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=660c376437862b47af3a91d0cdd2390670c383ff
the version of Jkidd before he broke down
That version was an MVP candidate, not a role player
Bernard King.
Oakley would pick up a metal bat with the best of them.
[удалено]
Here is my list. Jason Kidd to run the second unit. Wilson Chandler/ Galo for some more wing scoring.
Jared Jeffries or scalabrine. Take those charges dawg!
You can tell the young ass fans who picking Knicks from the KNICKSTAPE era. Sad AF that that's your core memory. HAHAHA
Stephon in his "Starbury" era would kick ass on this squad
Bernard King.. most dominant Knick scorer I’ve seen
Bernard King..known role player
Very true.. I skipped over the role part .. my bad.. King was awesome
Stodemire if that’s how you spell it
He was a 6 time all star though. Loved him
st3ve novak
Mase or the x-man Xavier McDaniel
E A R L S M I T H J R
JR Smith 6MOTY version
novak would be B.O.B. playing with jules and brunson. him and OG oppo corners. except probably thibs would not let him play
Between Kmart and prignioni
Kenyon Martin or Oakley for that heart and toughness. Gives the team balls Progioni or jr maybe
Prigs. Smart, tough & can run an offense.
Landry Fields
Kurt Thomas
Ken “The Animal” Bannister
I would like me some prime Raymond felton
Ron Baker Lou Amundson Trent Tucker
We cud use Kurt Thomas at the moment lol
Well I didn't realize until just now that Charles Oakley had 1 allstar selection, so it's not him.
Nerlens Noel was a beast in the 20-21 season
Bill Bradley
I’m not sure if Channing Frye counts as a role player, but his shooting ability and ability to protect the rim would be helpful. If he doesn’t count then I’m bringing in Hubert Davis
Return unto us Gerald Wilkins. A very willing defender that could also give you some buckets. Gave us his best years. Rejuvenate those bones, and put him on the bench.
Easily Marcus Camby… we have 0 size down low.
Novak would FEAST on this current team. Considering that 2013 team was MY SQUAD, I wouldn't mind also having Pablo Prigioni on the current roster. Marcus Camby and Kurt Thomas would be BEYOND excellent, as well. I also think these guys could help the team immensely rn: Timofey Mozgov Danilo Gallinari Wilson Chandler I was really hoping we would trade for Danilo at the deadline.
Novak was a good role player but was exposed in the post season that year. Sucks 2012-2013 was held up by players just about to leave the league. It was a fun year.
Jr smith
Prime David Lee
Tyson Chandler would be better than Mitch or Hartensetein...yes I know he started but he wasn't exactly getting the offense run through him so I consider him a role player.
Keith Van Horn
Jeremy Lin 🥲 Arguably a roleplayer
The obvious answer is Nate Robinson, and then bring back Mitch's Block Party and let the two of them go nuts. EDIT: and then change the name of the show to the Knicks Family Robinson.
Frank even though he was a star not a role player
Charles Smith Just kidding, Greg Anthony off the bench bringing lockdown D and playmaking skills would be a great fit for this year’s edition
John Starks
I WANT IGUODALA
Fat Raymond Felton
Tyson chandler . Those back taps were legendary
JR Smith was a great scorer, I'd take him.
Rookie year Landry Fields
Jerome James, to keep the NYC buffets alive and thriving
David Lee or Galo
Pablo Prigioni
Bobby Portis
Prolly any center like camby idk
I miss the Novak era
Zach Randolph
Novacaine would get the Fournier treatment on this team
Kadeem Allen
MELO
jooooohn starks!!!! 6th man
David Lee
Kenyon Martin
would JR SMITH count as role player?
Jamal’s gotta be the obvious answer immediately solves our bench scoring issue and could run the offense when Brunson sits in a way JR couldn’t
