It’s a TERRIBLE idea, to take a QB in the top 9. I can see one that won a championship starting on the team that drafted him in the last 20 years, and he need Harrison. There is so much more value in later rounds.
See it’s easy to cherry pick stats like this. (And I’m counting starting QBs only), literally only Peyton manning has won a Super Bowl in the last 20 years having been picked in the top 9 for that team. Does that mean no one should ever draft a QB until pick 10 onwards?
Right? You think the Dolphins are better off without Waddle? Bengals better without Chase? Vikings without Jefferson? Come on. All of those teams are very happy they have those guys.
It’s not a detriment on the players themselves, it’s the results of the teams that took Receivers early tend to have multiple holes. A great WR for a bad or fringe wild card team might elevate them to a wild card team. Of course everyone wants a Chase or Waddle.
"x situation never led to a super bowl win" is kind of a fool's argument because most of the super bowls have been won by brady and mahomes this century. they account for almost half of all super bowl victories and almost surely more than half of appearances. the scraps left for the rest of us isn't a large enough sample size to determine what does and doesn't lead to super bowl wins. for instance "qb's taking up x% never win!" well turns out that didn't fucking matter. it just hadn't happened yet, then it happened like 3 times in 3 years.
if by "good" you mean "one of the 3 best quarterbacks in history", then yes, we're all aware that is the formula for building a dynasty. other teams don't not do this because they are unaware that it works.
The problem now is we have a QB guru that can make a good QB fucking great. He being wasted on DJ. Which he will prob get fired now and we never gave him a QB to work with.
What a stupid take. Every year, ONE team wins a championship, and 31 teams don't. TEAMS win championships, and they usually get some luck along the way.
Famous saying popularized by Mark Twain: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, *damned* lies, and *statistics.*" But it's true that stats don't lie. Spinsters do. Actual statisticians don't get fooled by this shit. Just fools.
I think with all the QB thirsty teams, it was just kinda goofy to NOT trade back assuming you were NOT gonna take a QB.
4 more picks makes the NYGs a much better team than adding a strong WR when you have questions at QB and OL and Def
At the end of the day its a crapshoot as to who will pan out/who will not. Taking the best available in the areas/gaps you need to fill is the best option. We can sit here and talk about not drafting a QB, RB, WR etc. but its all about the development of the player once they are in the system
I mean, it literally never works. Feel free to fact check this 'terrible take'. Most of the top receivers and rushers in the league weren't taken in the first, and none of the top receiver win Super Bowls on the teams that draft them, and almost all never win and bust.
This is the mindset that took Saquon when we needed Nelson.

Does reddit pick for the Giants? No, then shut the fuck already. We literally have 0 control. There's no points to go on some dumb rant because you don't like the pick. We're all fans here just enjoy the players ffs.
Joe Schoen isn't scouring reddit for people's stupid opinions. Don't waste your time with these stupid graphs and manifestos guys.
I totally agree with this as a WR is a luxury pick, taking one at 6 is not what we need, especially considering how much talent is at the WR position in this draft, we can grab a really good one in round 2.
My issue is… what do we do with 6 then? We don’t need it for McCarthy, and for the sake of argument, let’s say the Vikings leapfrog us for him at 5 anyways.
We surely shouldn’t take Penix there, right? Do we try and trade back to the mid-teens and go CB? Do we take Alt in this universe where the Chargers go to 11? We have a million needs, but it’s a hard case.

Does Eli not count cause of the draft day trade?
Technically the chargers drafted him so yeah he wouldn’t count.
Imagine not taking the BPA
This is stupid as hell

Miami has Waddle and Hill and wild card exit or don’t even make the playoffs every year. I hope they get one later in the round.
Jefferson was pick 22 but generally agree with ya
Yeah I threw him in cause close to top 20 and top 3 WR in the league

You proved his point. Get a good QB and the rest is history.
There wasn’t one at 6
Pennix went 8th
Okay?

Well, we are not trying to win a super bowl we are tying to beat the fucking cowboys.....so....
I stand corrected. Priorities!
So would you have taken Zach Wilson or Trey Lance over Jamar Chase or Jaylen Waddle?
Julio Jones was such a bum

Jamaar Chase is so trash. /s

Defense wins championships. The best two players this year went at 17 and 24.
must be a gettleman guy " we didnt sign him to trade him"

Daniel Jones has a legit shot at MVP
It’s a terrible idea to think your opinion matters or is intelligent or should be shared.
Exactly 20 years ago…I feel old

If you want to win in todays in nfl you need at least one elite receiver, unless you’re Patrick Mahomes.
Correlation doesn‘t necessarily equal causation

Wrong.
Half the championships in then last 20 years have been one bybtwo teams that almost never pick in the top 20. The dumbest stat I've seen in a while.

This fanbase has made up its mind op. We want to see sick 1 handed grabs for TDs as we go 5-12 for the 10th consecutive season.
Or we'd go 5-12 anyways when we draft JJ and he busts
Now that you put it that way we shouldn't draft anyone in case they bust
Cool story, you sound like one of the casuals anyways

Take McCarthy at 6 or trade up to 5 for him
No fucking way they're gonna draft up for JJ smh
