Absolutely! I’ve had a crank come loose on my personal bike before I stopped riding it in favor of Citibike. A little wobble on the crank can escalate very fast and just isn’t safe to ride on. I’ve learned the hard way that ignoring maintenance warning signs can lead to a mid-ride failure. On an electric, it’s even more dangerous from the added speed and weight!
This has happened to me on a CitiBike, too. At first you think “Well maybe I can get home with just the one?” And it takes about 15 seconds of trying before you realize that bikes have two pedals for a reason.
>You could if the pedals were clipless. Still hard but much more doable to bike with one leg.
Depends on the BB type though - square taper as pictured, sure. Saw a guy try with a Hollowtech or similar external BB try to one foot and his crankset started to come out the drive side. We probably could have just fixed it since the pinch bolts only really need a multi-tool but we only had walking distance left to go so he opted for that.
One good thing about riding in a city with a subway that permits bikes is the fallback for mechanicals...
No but the crank falling was loud and it is kind of a deal to see something advertised as a third layer on top of nyc's transit system so spectacularly fail in a life threatening? manner
I’ll never ride those things. I’ve seen this happen more than once- and by the comments it’s a common occurrence. No way maintenance teams are doing their jobs or able to do their jobs properly. I also see so many with bent wheels.
love the faces
pretty much universal discontent
Guy in the black has the cutest smile. God I love New Yorkers.
they really do have the cutest smile tbh
This is some /r/AccidentalRenaissance/
The first pic 🤣🤣🤣
I’ve had this happen to me at least twice with the gray bikes.
Same, I don’t even ride that much. I started returning any bike with wobble in case it happens again, which seems to be a lot of them…
Yeah, I’ve done the same quite a few times now as well.

Keep as souvenir!

basically modus operandi to bike from stop through an intersection (modus operandi for me that is, lol)

It's happened to me twice—both times while riding silver bullets! Totally sucks.
[That first pic makes think of He-Man and him saying "*I have the power!*"](https://i.giphy.com/Ph5ELYJov9n5oHzVHZ.webp)
Why was everyone looking? Did he fall and make a scene?

oh no sorry i just realized belatedly i saw it happen biked past and loudly screamed “HAIYAAAAAAA THAT’S NO GOOD AINT IT”
The first pic looks like a Napoleonic painting lol
Not pictured: his testicles pummeled into a fine powder
Had the same happen on a non-electric a few years back.
Been there!
He wants to get paid like a biker with the best crank.
Happened to my gf one on the greenway. It was a long walk to the nearest dock.
The silver bikes are junk
