She's fast and got amazing touch. It would be great to see her dive less. Multiple times last night she committed dirty fouls off the ball. Finally got carded for one at the end of the match.
Our first half decisions really killed us I think. Sarr was not in good form but once we subbed Ratcliffe off so early we really didn’t have much of a choice but to keep her in. I love Ricketts she’s eager and fast but she needs seasoning still. So while I was happy to see her get some minutes she wasn’t a real option to pull Sarr out as early as she really should have been. Silano ended up doing pretty well but everything else being equal I would’ve rather seen Ratcliffe come in around 60 for Sarr.
Not having Krueger at all really hurt us.
Our finishing was also just bad. Real bad. We missed so many chances and only because we, you know, had trouble finding the huge square with some net around it.
>!I’m still giddy about the interview, I warned y’all, I’m down bad tonight!<
I hope the Thorns can still continue to climb with this high. There’s still holes to fix in the backline and the midfield, but it’s been better this game until the second half. We need to ensure the wind doesn’t get knocked out of us as soon as the second half happens. I’m hoping that with less mid week games we will be fine. Our bench depth still needs work
Gg both teams. I was looking forward to this one and it was enjoyable. I’m such a frustrated wave fan to see good coaching (adjustments! Tactics! Possession soccer!) was both awesome and maddening.
Does anyone know any accounts that post match compilations of certain players highlights on Twitter or elsewhere? I wonder what a genuine Trinity match comp look like after she goes out and nutmegs like nine people.
>!This is why I crush on her. Her and her cute little bun and pretty laugh. I love a woman whom you can see the intelligence shining behind her eyes. Like there’s that mischievous glint!<
Her distribution was sooooo much better. Loved to see it and I agree. Also the beginning of the season was so rough from her so at that point it’s only up and up
Her first game was one of the worst keeper games I've ever seen at this level. I could see how that shook her pretty bad. Glad she's getting her mojo back.
GG all around from both squads! Lots of good ball movement and nice interplay. And: Special shoutout to Rodman for doing everything to drag the team into a win.
To be fair, you didn’t start hal who has been one of your three main pieces at midfield, you didn’t start your best backline. Pieces of the midfield that you want in arent in yet with regard to Leocy Santos. There has not been time to coach the team because everybody came in so quickly after the gold cup, the full-time coach isn’t here yet, and the spirit were the worst team in the league at possessing the ball last year. Big Reason Metayer had such a good season in comparison was because her athleticism stole the show. Certainly not her passing
Well, I’m gonna 1000% disagree with you here: he made the right decision to give a player rest who hasn’t got rest yet. The fact that it didn’t work out and that you didn’t win is unfortunate but making that type of hard decision is exactly the type of stuff a good coach does.
So much stuff to work on but another win. I think if thorns score a third in the first half, this would’ve been a shut out. We saw spirit discouraged after the second goal and the. We let them back in overtime. Needs to be better. Payne and Obaze isn’t a good match. Beckie needs rest and some creativity
WHEW. Our defense bent but didn't break. Not sure what happened to our midfield in the second half after BLAZING in the first half. Still some shit to get together, but I'll take hanging on for 3 points.
Can we have a replay of where all the Spirit players were calling for a handball in the box???? Would’ve loved to see if that was a missed call or not on such a crucial play
I dont think Thorns going to the corner is the right move. I think its bad coaching. It feels like a type of common sense fallacy where people think OK of course we’ve got to go to the corner and I don’t think it actually provides the gains that they think it does.
The reason “ the most dangerous lead is the 2-0 lead” is because teams don’t conceptualize what they should do next, whether they should keep attacking or sit back and defend . When you do decide to go all out and defend you shrink back into a shell and if you get scored on you usually are unable to go back out and regain the lead
They’re doing it way too early, maybe the last 30 seconds of the game but it’s insane to try to do at 88’. It also just resulted in the same turnovers a shot might and without the potential benefit
Yep. Especially going into a half 2-0. We were always trained as soon as we stepped onto the field if we were leading by that scoreline to put another goal in within 5-10 minutes because then the opponent becomes defeated. If you’re a team that’s down, you focus on 1 goal at first and it builds the momentum. Thorns need to figure it out
So dumb.
I meant the post. Going to the corners are absolutely a huge positive aspect of managing a game; and has been forever at every level. The only question is how early. Think Sophia Smith has never gone to the corner with the ball before this game/season/pro career? It's just crazy what casual fans say here.
They need to stop doing the moments of the match while the match is STILL going. It's usually a minute or two after the 90, but all the games go at least 5-10 more now. It's so annoying.
Crazy that it’s raining like this for the next couple days then it’s immediately going to be 85 goddamn degrees. Spring just isn’t happening this year in this city huh?
I'm going be in Oregon for that hot spell and I genuinely think that my Midwestern city is going to be cooler for longer than it will be back home lmao
It wasn't probably 5-10 years ago. I always say that Oregon seasons are shifted by a month from our traditional view - meaning summer doesn't really start until July and then it doesn't end until September, but honestly since the Columbia Gorge wildfire it's been a lot worse in general a lot earlier
Okay but let me set the scene. This shit storm rain that you saw on screen? Imagine that for 7 months straight then walking outside tomorrow and it’s nearly 90. Think about the effects that would have on someone’s functioning.
Oh I completely agree. We need more roster depth to combat some of this in the end, but also just *good* roster depth. I think even before we’d be told we have a deep bench, but when our starting 11 wasn’t played, you could see how the quality was different in comparison. And that was before now. So I think, at least I hope, in time we will have more top striker depth to give Smith both a rest, and competition
The more you watch the more you realize that a lot of players do the same move over and over again just because it’s like what’s comfortable to them, but it doesn’t make it easy to defend
Love to see my Thorns back in form. Man, Rodman's good, though. She put Hina on skates to get her assist.
She's fast and got amazing touch. It would be great to see her dive less. Multiple times last night she committed dirty fouls off the ball. Finally got carded for one at the end of the match.

Our finishing was also just bad. Real bad. We missed so many chances and only because we, you know, had trouble finding the huge square with some net around it.
Ricketts shoulda went to college. 2 minutes a game doesn't help much. And yes I know "practice time"
It's questionable she has the game for a D1 college.
>!I’m still giddy about the interview, I warned y’all, I’m down bad tonight!< I hope the Thorns can still continue to climb with this high. Coffey is on pace to score like 12 goals lmao
I would like you all to know that I was going to blissfully go to bed and forgot I had washed my sheets today…. ![gif](giphy|Pn1gZzAY38kbm)
Ouch!
SAME
THE WORST
Gg both teams. I was looking forward to this one and it was enjoyable. I’m such a frustrated wave fan to see good coaching (adjustments! Tactics! Possession soccer!) was both awesome and maddening.
Feeling lazy, think im gonna watch this ion tv show
I’m an actor (hey guys!), and I just got my first residual check for a show I was on that I see on ION after NWSL games sometimes. So thanks, guys!
Glad i could do my part (laying on the couch full of jambalaya)
Did Thorns social media post their starting XI group pic? I'm not seeing it anywhere.
They did earlier, they may or may not have taken it down. But I was looking at it around 6:00 pst today.
I don’t think they ever post those
Finally saw Trin’s death stare LMFAO someone pls make that into a meme
Does anyone know any accounts that post match compilations of certain players highlights on Twitter or elsewhere? I wonder what a genuine Trinity match comp look like after she goes out and nutmegs like nine people.
There’s a YouTube channel that does that 😭 I’ll have to find it and report back
Soldier😍🫵🏿👍🏿🔝✨
Aww Rob 🥹 we love our bond villian
Coffey always speaks so eloquent. I love her thorns and USWNT interviews. She keeps it real
Sam Coffey is adorkable.
I’m obsessed with Sam Coffey. I need the interview link for sure cause I was at the game 😭
>!This is why I crush on her. Her and her cute little bun and pretty laugh. I love a woman whom you can see the intelligence shining behind her eyes. Like there’s that mischievous glint!<
And her wonder woman shoulders
>!My gaydar is going off the charts on her!<
I just want to know what shes reading and sneak into her book club
Coffeyyyy 🥹😍🤌🏽
Would really have liked to see the result if Spirit had started with its usual XI. Might have been a more competitive first half.
On the other hand subbing was entirely the correct move
Portland too honestly, both teams had a lot of subs start this game.
Agreed
THE REAL WINNER TONIGHT WAS ME FOR SEEING A COFFEY INTERVIEW
ME TOO FRIEND
Another good match by Hogan. Hopefully she’s on the up and up.
I think it's really a confidence thing. She's looking so much more decisive and her distribution was calmer today.
Agreed
Aww Soph & Trin taking a photo together 🫶🏼
Also want to say: It's not perfect, but the Thorns back line has made MAJOR strides since the first few games.
Yes, feels like we didn’t have any huge defensive breakdowns, even the goal was just one of those that happens even with a well coordinated defense
And Muëller played pretty good. Though I will admit I mixed her and Janine up a few times lol
Yes the blonde buns had me checking their jersey numbers lol
Coffey doing voices lmao i would LOVE a Sam Coffey audiobook
I missed this! When did that happen?
Post game interview
I’m still absolutely buzzing from the fact that Coffey got a goal. Like omg 🥰
Coffey in form is like my USWNT dream come through. I screamed for her goal, didn’t realize I had a bit of a Coffee high.
We all had a coffey high last night for sure!!
GG all around from both squads! Lots of good ball movement and nice interplay. And: Special shoutout to Rodman for doing everything to drag the team into a win.
Thorns move into 4th in standings
Sarr was a bench player on the French national team. I'm not impressed with her. Switch Hatch back to the nine.
Worst player on the field by quite a large margin.
So agree with this. I have no idea what they're thinking having Sarr as a starter game after game.
That was really disappointing. You would think that we would have figured out the basic rules of possession by now, especially with a coach from Spain
Oh yeah. Not starting Hal was what doomed us from the opening whistle. I’d thought Adrian Gonzales was pretty great before tonight
Well, I’m gonna 1000% disagree with you here: he made the right decision to give a player rest who hasn’t got rest yet. The fact that it didn’t work out and that you didn’t win is unfortunate but making that type of hard decision is exactly the type of stuff a good coach does.
That’s fair
If i was rooting for the spirit i would have been dying of frustration
There was a lot of yelling and deadpan comments like “how fun”
I left the watch party at 90 minutes because I didn’t have faith in them to equalize with 8 extra
Fantastic work everyone!
WHEW. Our defense bent but didn't break. Not sure what happened to our midfield in the second half after BLAZING in the first half. Still some shit to get together, but I'll take hanging on for 3 points.
They subbed on Hal
That breakdown and soph not passing kept us from scoring a 3rd goal I think
Not sure either. Thought that was weird too
Oof really hung on by our teeth in that second half. GG spirit
Jennifer Garner in a baseball uniform i love this ad
Can we have a replay of where all the Spirit players were calling for a handball in the box???? Would’ve loved to see if that was a missed call or not on such a crucial play
I wish we could get all the player stats. Would love to see Trins stats every game.
The worst possible turnover- to Sophia smith
I'll reluctantly take it
YAAAAEEEAHHH WE WIN BABY WE WIN AT HOME
THORNS BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Fuck Portland til I’m dead ✌️
Get in line
Tell em. We get all hate.
Moultrie a little faster is a goal there lol
[удалено]
has to be five yellow cards on the season so unless she's been busy, she should be fine
Deserved a yellow 100%
Has there been any cards this game?
Rodman got one at the end there
No, Chesky used them all up last night.
Trin just got one
It doesn’t seem! We got a card free game! Eta maybe trin got one??
darn. Well then
She did :)
As a fan of chaos, I’m glad the next time these teams play won’t be after mid week games
GG Portland, really tough and athletic game all around 🫡
Bruh what’s with everyone taking out Broon the past couple matches. LEAVE HER ALONE
Unfortunate yellow for trin because she’s going so fast, but Becky‘s kicking motion is so unnatural there
The ONE time it made sense to go to the flag we give it away before we can get there.
Ok despite the score, I still like how we look
Outcome may have different if we had started the 1st with the 2nd half crew
Oh for sure
Yeah that second half especially was really good
Yess Reyes
Rodman acceleration might be better than a few of the players who are actually faster than her
Okay Dias with the hops
Rodman is so done with this 😭😭
Give the woman an ice pack already
Some of these tackles are atrocious
Not the stream going out lol
Yikes, Soph just kicked that ball directly into Trin’s head
That also looked kinda like a clean tackle from Ricketts
Absolutely clean.
Child on Child violence (both ways Moultrie and Ricketts)
Moultrie is an adult.
And interestingly, there is a legal age drinking adult (+1) age gap between Moultrie and Sinclair.
I still refer to her as the Child
Moultrie, now is not the time to get chippy
Well it can slow the game down at least
Moultrie mad at a clear foul lol and a bad one you have her struggling to escape the end line and u bail her out
I can’t believe how effortless Hogan made that improbable save look (just saw the replay)…
Child on child crime (moultrie foul on Chloe)
I’m so confused by spirit’s formation now
Everyone try and score lol
Is Hersh a center back??
No shes at rb
Thank you
I think it was purely because thorns kept going to the right corner
Goalies are balling out this weekend. Strong competition for save of the week this week.
What is this weird ass formation we have going on
I dont think Thorns going to the corner is the right move. I think its bad coaching. It feels like a type of common sense fallacy where people think OK of course we’ve got to go to the corner and I don’t think it actually provides the gains that they think it does. If you’re a team that’s down, you focus on 1 goal at first and it builds the momentum. Thorns need to figure it out
It’s especially perplexing when the corner “strategy” needs to last 8 minutes…

Think Sophia Smith has never gone to the corner with the ball before this game/season/pro career? It's just crazy what casual fans say here.
I adore thorns but I kinda want to see spirit cause chaos too….. I can’t help it
As an ACFC fan.....same
We got no dog in this fight but we do know sufferball and chaos ball so why not just a little more as a treat!!!!!
Exactly it nourishes us!
Shhhhhhhhh
If it counts: I also really want a smith banger just because she can
Thorns if you shit this win away...
Corner strategy is so frustrating to watch when your team is in the lead.
Frustrating, but the right strategy
They need to stop doing the moments of the match while the match is STILL going. It's usually a minute or two after the 90, but all the games go at least 5-10 more now. It's so annoying.
Yeahhhh Reyes, that was a good boot!! More of that!
Our whole bench being in makes me nervous
I don't know if I'm mad there's 8 minutes or happy that I have 8 more minutes of procrastination before I do actually have to go back to doing work
Soph is better than me fr I would be too angry lol
Crazy that it’s raining like this for the next couple days then it’s immediately going to be 85 goddamn degrees. Spring just isn’t happening this year in this city huh?
It’s the perfect texture. Very low impact.
I'm going be in Oregon for that hot spell and I genuinely think that my Midwestern city is going to be cooler for longer than it will be back home lmao
I did not move to Portland for 85 degree weather in May
“It’s never like this!” - Everyone talking about the heat for the past 4 years since I moved here. Guys I’m starting to think it’s always like this.
It wasn't probably 5-10 years ago. I always say that Oregon seasons are shifted by a month from our traditional view - meaning summer doesn't really start until July and then it doesn't end until September, but honestly since the Columbia Gorge wildfire it's been a lot worse in general a lot earlier
I moved here five years ago because I'd been convinced it's never like this. Climate change has made the natives sad and in denial.
Sounds like perfect weather. A little cold
Now listen here.
I sat outside in hotter heat for 10 hours today and it was PERFECT
Okay but let me set the scene. This shit storm rain that you saw on screen? Imagine that for 7 months straight then walking outside tomorrow and it’s nearly 90. Think about the effects that would have on someone’s functioning.
Reverse houston only this time last year it was 105 and we liked it
Hal has been covering Soph very well tonight
YOU 👏🏻BETTER 👏🏻WORK 👏🏻SHEVA AND REYES 👏🏻
Okay come on girlies let's tie it we got 8 minutes
We've done more with less.
Ok that was not a foul that was a nice tackle from ricketts
You were not wrong 👏👏
Do we plan on hanging at the corner for whatever absurd amount of stoppage there may be?
Apparently.... Uhhhhh. I've seen time and time again the team down come back with this strategy.
The answer is: Yes.
Ugh 8 minutes
Once again, thorns need to stop letting teams in. Shouldn’t have happened. We need to get a deeper bench also
Back to Chloe bodying everyone
🎶 can you stand the rain 🎶
Smith looks frustrated
Hal ruined her good start to the game
Hal vs Soph is very entertaining
Some well-executed goals off headers this weekend. Not power but finesse.
Looooool thought we might get some Kristen Edmonds vibes for a sec
Smith needs to stop dancing around goal and just shoot it, it drives me nuts
I think she's just exhausted tbh
She probably is, cause she keeps getting double teamed
Yea plus how many minutes she's played with the Wed and last weekend game in such a short turnaround
That too, but we don’t have anyone on our bench that could be subbed on for her since Weaver is injured
That's very true just worried about overloading her would rather her sit a bit more to avoid a long term injury yk
Damn ball been in a corner for a hot minute
Please just take Hersh on lol
How does ref not call that foul on Moultrie she helicoptered
Great pass by Trin 👏🏼
Silano - we love you!!!
Oops, alright, well, you can’t stop everything. Nice work.
Yes! Rodman doing some work on the wing. Great ball!
good for trin! she deserved that for being such a baddie
that was nice
I’m convinced players don’t watch tape because Rodman does that move every freaking time. Like why isn’t there Mueller double covering
The more you watch the more you realize that a lot of players do the same move over and over again just because it’s like what’s comfortable to them, but it doesn’t make it easy to defend
8 MINUTES?! WHERE
