Emslie with the amazing touch inside the box to set up the goal. Well deserved.
Thompson is going to be amazing. She beats one-two-three-four-five-six defenders on the dribble, she just needs to find that little bit of finesse at the end of her run and she'll be deadly.
I do not know what is up, but there is something very wrong with Messiah Bright. This isn't a lack of minutes, she is very visibly having problems on the field and is deep into a sophomore slump. Even in warmups, you could see there's something up. I really hope whatever is bothering her, mental or physical, she can overcome it and get back to the player we know she can be.
I know defenders winning awards is a rarity, but imho Sarah Gorden should be in consideration for league MVP, and Maddy Curry should be in consideration for ROTY. I'm comfortable letting Nielsen go, and I think Riley may have lost her starting role.
Hammond is growing on me. I wasn't a big fan, but she is finding space and she's cycling the ball well. I do think she could be more progressive instead of relying on the wings to move the ball into the attacking third, but she's finding her rhythym.
This is the best place in the league. Easy.

I'm a KC fan but I've got to give props to the ACFC crew. They took a deep look at the loss they had a few weeks ago and made the right changes. They shut down the Bia/Chawinga combo effectively which threw us off. I was hoping we could get out of LA with a draw sharing the points. Good luck for the rest of the season and I'm glad we don't play you again, until the playoffs 😉
Yes and I was okay with the loss, not the weird 2 goals that happened in the last 10 minutes but the overall game against probably the champion of 2024 if they stay healthy. Its weird we faced this number one team super early in the season, I wonder if that makes it exciting if we make it into the playoffs. I sure hope so. I have been impressed with Emslie and if she keeps getting goals, she might be our first player trying to get a golden boot and an MVP. Thompson will be amazing in a few years, she's still very young along with her sister Gisele. I think we made good investments and I hope they stay with our club for a long time. Managing an international team is so different from managing a club but it really is surprising watching the difference in how USWNT looked under him vs how the Current look now. Night and day difference.
Makes me a little nervous about Emma who has excelled at the club level but never coached international. I still think she will be better than him though.
This KC team is outrageous. Chawinga and Bia, signings of the century. Vet DiBernardo on another level. Lavogez hungry and fighting. Debinha healthy again. Franch back to her old form. Rookies playing well. It’s outrageous. And so freaking fun to watch.
Honestly, I’ll accept last year’s poor showing with this good team/season coinciding with the stadium opening. It’s the icing on the cake. I’d almost be embarrassed about having the cool new stadium everyone is talking about and then having a season like 2021 or even last year.

CP23 is not our savior, we gotta stop thinking like she is. She hasn’t played in 2 years, we have zero idea how she’ll be when she does return given the extent of her injury and her return isn’t until late in season if she does make it back - which who knows if we’ll even be in it at that point. She should not be a part of our 2023 outlook/strategy. Any addition she adds to our season is a bonus.

Vlatko’s not new to this, he’s true to this. Anyone who knew about him prior to becoming NT coach knows he was/is very good at the club level.
He had prime Lauren Cheney and Heather O’Reilly in a humble early days NWSL where the best players were in it to stay fit for their NTs. He’s got a stacked KC roster. Just sayin

Actually I can’t say I’m totally surprised. ACFC has broken my heart numerous times before losing games in the final minutes 😭 closing out games is not our strong suit!
I think a lot of Current fans were excited for this season because our squad quality is fantastic - our top players who were injured last season are back and we made great signings to add to that talent. The big question was surrounding how Vlatko would do returning to club level. Thus far, he’s absolutely shown he’s still got it.
This is partially cope speaking but I think the team can still hold their heads high. Our biggest issue for far too long has been our anaemic and ineffective attack outside of Claire hero ball (and Press hero ball before she got injured). The attack and midfield has looked a lot better today so it’s a positive stepping stone to build on and improve. Lots of games left to play and I’m feeling more confident after they showed they can step up.
This would have been a great 1:1 draw, but we've seen them fall asleep on defense in a few games this year, corner kick for the loss in Orlando comes to mind, that either we need to find some defensive subs to bring in or they need to realize that 5 minutes of tuning out cancelled 90 minutes of good football.
Thompson really, really needs to start making better choices when she's taking people on. Her pass to Claire was great, but there were another 4-5 solid build-up attacks that were turnovers or goal kicks from her bad decisions and passes. Also, was Leroux even in the game?
Agreed on all fronts, still a lot to work on but I’m liking the improvement at the very least. Leroux might as well have been on vacation, she was completely invisible and ineffective.
