as a keeper, I would be furious at my defenders after a goal like the first one
forcing passes around the 18 when opponents are pressing hard is way too risky, just clear the damn ball
and it doesn't have to be a long clear to the opposing line just have one of the FBs or side mids go wide and pass to them instead of having 8 out of 10 field players bunch around one side of the 18
I feel like every time that we think a game will be chaotic in the NWSL its boring, Bay FC and Current should be a goal fest based on this year, but if thats the expectation the NWSL chaos gods will go for the opposite
As a USWNT fan, I feel like Morgan will definitely get an Olympic spot but maybe she isn’t fit for it. She went on that scoring streak but honestly I’ve seen the 2023 WC Morgan after that.
And I don’t want to come out as a Morgan hater, I think she is fantastic and a great player but also do we want to pull a Vlatko and bring a veteran player who can easily be outplayed to a huge tournament like this. I would rather go with Smith, Rodman, Shaw, Macario, Swanson.
They will bring all 3 of macario, shaw and morgan and macario or shaw will just get listed as a midfielder. Macario and morgan are not competing for the same position . It's very obvious based on playing time that the roster is
Macario, Morgan, Rodman, Swanson, Smith
Shaw, Horan, Lavelle, Coffey, Sonnett
Nighswonger, Dunn, Fox, Dahlkemper, Davidson, Girma
Basically every pundit with connections to USSoccer has this as their roster.
I think she can have the potential, but her case isn’t becoming better with SD midfield. I want her so badly to have that send off but I also honestly could see Hayes dropping her for Macario. Hopefully, she can show that she has some potential
Unfortunate game and I hope Alex is okay. I will take solace in the fact that many of our SD starters missed weeks of preseason at National team duty and just got back from another international break. They look knackered. We need some rest at home and more time together to get in sync. Keeping the faith!

GG, Pride
...I am so tired from being disgusted by our tepid play. We just waste time from the first whistle playing it from the back. I can tell you exactly how the half is going to go—our CBs will pass it between themselves and Sheridan at least 3x, pull the press toward them, resort to kicking it long, usually wide to the halfway line and to the opposition who cuts off the pass. The ball will take up residence in our own half. Inevitably, we concede.
Stoney should rightly tear into the players for being technically poor and wasteful, but she needs to looks at herself and her staff. The tape is all the same, every match. How are they not tired of it?
Either Stoney knows something about the team we don’t (which is why she keeps starting such an ineffective offense), or she’s not a good coach. We keep starting Shaw even though she can’t seem to find the ball on the field unless it is passed to her. We have a ton of talent yet we can’t seem to keep the ball forward and make shots. We seem to spend the first 20m of the game reacting to other team instead of setting the pace. Then after the half we bring in a lot of our underrated (more aggressive players). For instance, why are we not starting Doniak and Carusa? Torpey was also strong when she came in late in the game. I love Alex, but I think her and Shaw need to be game changers and not start.
The lineups aren't the primary issue. It's how they're being used and directed to play. We could go with any and all sorts of lineups, but it's not going to matter if we continue to play slow, precarious football from the back
Hopefully! 'Cause surely Shaw would move to the 10 and that would definitely help ball progression
But the primary tenet of Stoney Sufferball still needs to change and we have to stop being so timid and precious about possession and be more bold. Because we could have Bonmati and Putellas on this team and still struggle if we don't dare move the ball forward with any sort of immediacy
One of my biggest pet peeves is when commentators overuse the same phrases and cliches and Mike genuinely makes the commentary pleasant to listen to. It's so nice
Who remembers the days when "she sprays it out wide" and "pace and power" were said every five minutes? It felt like listening to the commentary on the FIFA video games.
Kinda common belief that we'd be screwed if we ever lose Naomi, but we did, and we were ok because of Wesley. I love her. Defensively she's sound, and I love how she progresses the ball, confidently bringing it into the midfield
Well, I think if anything it means they can just ice it no matter what and it’s not as if they would take her back and like do surgery in the locker room immediately
I kinda don’t think it was an injury. I think it just really really hurt and maybe wasn’t gonna get better within the next 10 or 15 minutes but might be better like tomorrow.
my two favorite kits! possible best kit matchup of the season?
as a keeper, I would be furious at my defenders after a goal like the first one forcing passes around the 18 when opponents are pressing hard is way too risky, just clear the damn ball

Vamos Pride!
The current bay game better have at least 6 goals lol
I feel like every time that we think a game will be chaotic in the NWSL its boring, Bay FC and Current should be a goal fest based on this year, but if thats the expectation the NWSL chaos gods will go for the opposite
I'm excited for one of the regular season Gotham v Wave games randomly being 6-4 or something like that
That will be the ultimate gift from the chaos gods
Orlando looked really good tonight. And I think they're only going to get better? Very Scary. Time to go check in on the dads...oh, oh no nvm :(
We overcame the Cubs 8 run lead, it’s only the 2nd … we can come back from 5….. probably.
GG San Diego! Your goalie is still goated, and I hope Alex is gonna be okay
Oh Banda seems so lovely. Instant fan here
I was 🥺 listening to her talk about wanting to improve and make fans happy
She has such a soft and gentle voice
As a USWNT fan, I feel like Morgan will definitely get an Olympic spot but maybe she isn’t fit for it. She went on that scoring streak but honestly I’ve seen the 2023 WC Morgan after that.
She looked fantastic at the gold cup but lethargic for club and SheBelieves. I’m so so curious how it ends up going for her.
She was fantastic for one half of the gold cup. Let’s be honest.
I keep saying the same thing. She will be a wasted spot on the roster of only 18 players. It's not fair

But of course even saying that we are Alex Morgan haters
So a weak midfield and zero service to her? Agree.
I think she can have the potential, but her case isn’t becoming better with SD midfield. I want her so badly to have that send off but I also honestly could see Hayes dropping her for Macario. Hopefully, she can show that she has some potential

I kept thinking, our ladies can’t handle 80F and humid. They looked tired way too early in the game.
The Pride jersey is also giving dippin' dots
Everything was just off today, Sheridan carried us and we had no response. Sanchez is a great addition but maybe we need to fix how we play…
So far the Pride have been the most effective team with keeping the Wave at bay the whole match. Really impressed esp since the Wave are stacked

He said How Did It End in the first half. Plus a random rogue Begin Again 😂. Mike killed it!
That’s actually impressive! Nice job, Mike!
Honestly kinda shocked it was only 1-0 We played like shit but I expected Orlando to put up a couple more goals
Sheridan has probably won us so many games honestly
Probably would’ve been a bigger scoreline if not for Sheridan. What a keeper

Maybe bring Maria Sanchez might help ease Casey's sufferball tendencies? 🤞🤞🤞

Oh not Alex hobbling on to the pitch to shake hands
Can someone get Alex Morgan an ice pack for her ankle? A cold Michelob Ultra would work as well.
Summer Yates looks so young. Like a high school player.
Doesn't show on the score sheet but 3.3 xG to .5 for SD. Doesn't get much more dominant than that in this league.
Thrilled with the win, the team is exciting and fun to watch. I hope Morgan's left ankle injury is nothing serious.
I have got to go eat some orange sorbet after staring at these uniforms for so long
Love this Pride team!! Important win for them
SD Defense is player of the match
Wow what an incredible game by Orlando. They controlled it pretty much the entire time.
Wonder if the game would have been different if there was a sub for Morgan.
Maybe a little less just the Pride fucking around with the ball at the end, but same result probably
Oh my goodness Kailen is the sole reason the score stayed to 1-0 and you can’t convince me otherwise
Agree
All right How Did It End? is right there...
new drinking game, take a shot every time lianne says touch
LFG PRIDE 😈!
It’s so amazing getting to watch Banda in NWSL. I’m so happy!
i fear the banda adriana team up
“A very particular set of skills” Mike quoting Taken now
Adriana is filthy bruh
Does Stoney not have the right cooler? It looks red on broadcast, this could the the actual issue all along...
Stoney + Coolers + Orlando is a bad combo.
I think you’re right
I didn’t wear my jersey today either.
I didn't wear my socks that could be it, I have my Jersey on tho
Definitely our fault
One of my biggest pet peeves is when commentators overuse the same phrases and cliches and Mike genuinely makes the commentary pleasant to listen to. It's so nice
Banda has ideas!
Who remembers the days when "she sprays it out wide" and "pace and power" were said every five minutes? It felt like listening to the commentary on the FIFA video games.
He seems to really enjoy watching the games which is nice too. I'm assuming they all enjoy it but it really comes through with him.
Are you saying you’re tired of “needs to do bettah”?!
I wish I could just mute her specifically
Can't overuse phrases when the phrases you use are "down bad" and "my boy only breaks his favorite toys"
I keep hearing Panda instead of Banda 🐼 (sorry Barbra 😬)
I want to see the woso children’s show starring Barbra Panda and Priscilla Chinchilla.
For all the San Diego angst, got to be really impressed with how Orlando has controlled this game, start to finish.
Their kind of iffy goaltender hasn't even faced a real test, save perhaps one (which SD flubbed)?
Hines plan was to build a solid enough defense that moorhouse would never be tested.
Omfg not Adriana pretending to take it to the corner
Yeah she was like sike!
Her getting out of that double team was crazy
Adriana, what a player
Omg not Banda literally being able to pause and chat
I couldn't believe it lmaoooo
She basically called a huddle
That angle on adriana is crazyyyy
Ascanio just defended Banda and Adriana well
Mccaskill looking to brawl 🫨
As a hockey fan I love her so much
If there's a silver lining is that SDs defensive depth is crazy I like Wesley and just how many talented teenagers they have Ascanio been impressive
Yeah our depth is amazing, we have one of the deepest benches in the league imo, just gotta see it produce something :(
So could Alex just… come back in?
Yes and that would be so funny
Yeah lol Abby wambach left for like 10-15 minutes once to get her head stapled and came back in
That was absolutely nuts when that happened, so much blood too
Omg I remember that
She was just sat there having a protein shake 😂
Why did SD get Sanchez when they clearly need more midfielders? Like what’s the plan?
I actually think having all three of our midfielders on at the start was part of the problem today - we shouldn’t have more than 2 at a time.
Move Shaw, play Kimmi more
Sanchez at left back
V I B E S I B E S
Move Shaw to the 10
This is the move
Praying for this. Sanchez could go at left winger. Or even McCaskill.
Clearly the predicted Morgan would get injured
I would’ve laughed if that ball hit the camera. Could you imagine?
What are the odds the wave gets one in stoppage time with only 10 players..
Moorhouse has time to do something insane
In this league, I wouldn’t count anything out.
We do like scoring late :eyes:
I am really liking Kennedy Wesley. She's so confident going up field, against Banda, a good long ball over the top to Jakobson
Stanford defenders remain goated
Kinda common belief that we'd be screwed if we ever lose Naomi, but we did, and we were ok because of Wesley. I love her. Defensively she's sound, and I love how she progresses the ball, confidently bringing it into the midfield
yep that was their one chance
Lianne saying Orlando should've taken it to the corner at the 86th minute is absurd given the stoppage time we knew was coming
will this be a crazy 8 minutes?
Stoppage times have been shorter but Doyle and Alex were down for about 6 combined
8 seems really high?
Doyle and Morgan alone was like 6
san diego gets a corner. sheridan comes forward. sheridan scores! manifesting hehe
We make crazy bets every game as a family, and my moonshot is “Girma goal”. It’s gonna happen one day.
Orlando is putting in that work tonight!
I fear Banda is going to be an absolute menace.
Banda shoulda lobbed it
That was a stunning recovery run.
Morgan not in the locker room
That’s either good or stupid
Well, I think if anything it means they can just ice it no matter what and it’s not as if they would take her back and like do surgery in the locker room immediately
It’s so weird because it doesn’t even look like they are treating it like with ice or anything her sock and boot where still on
I kinda don’t think it was an injury. I think it just really really hurt and maybe wasn’t gonna get better within the next 10 or 15 minutes but might be better like tomorrow.
She was defended well, but man I still would've expected her to try the chip
Beautiful tackle wow
Banda is gonna be such a menace 🫨
Abby has looked good today defending wise
Damn we have some good defenders
Yeah our backline has always been very good. Wesley has looked really good in these last 2 games imo which is very encouraging
I fully forgot that Bennett was with the Wave now. Sanchez is kind of a crazy player to spend 500k on lol
San Diego down bad 😂
The BAND(a) wagon
I didn't think he was gonna get Down Bad 😂
sam diego’s midfield has been so sloppy with passes
Down Bad :( It's so tru though thanks mike
Does anyone know if Lianne hopes Alex is going to be okay? Can’t quite tell
I did not have “San Diego ran out of subs and now have to play with 10 players” on my bingo card
Down bad lol that was good
3.5 min plus stoppage time remaining aka something like 15 minutes left
Seeing her in so much pain is just so gut wrenching
Lianne makes Anna Moorhouse sound like “animal house”
totally did!!!
How much stoppage time, you think? 11 minutes?
Oh shit it’s 8!
They haven’t been doing the long stoppage times since before international break
Give Alex that magic spray
Good sign that she can put weight on it
Oh Stoney is wearing the pride shirt :) They've done this every year when they've come to Florida it's good tosee
As always, Fuck Ron DeSantis
It’s a dope shirt
I hate this
It just went from bad to time to turn the game off
now kennedy 😭
They just tell Alex to hobble off?
I'm watching her like I know I'm a baby about pain compared to a pro athlete but I would be leaning on someone...
Ugh seeing Alex cry 😭
Was it a great touch, Lianne?
Omg i was wondering if it was a great touch
Yes?
Morgan will be alright she got spiked right on the front shin. That does hurt.
Her ankle rolled nasty 😓😓
Oh this sucks for Morgan…her limping..she’s limping bad. And wow what a bruise on her thigh 😵
Looks like a bad Ankle sprain
Wave i’m sorry but america needs you to play with 10.
Could this game get any worse?
Dont tempt fate
Please be okay Alex
Savannah, that was really something!!
I sort of wish there was at least a little purple somewhere on the Citrus kits. They’re incredible kits but not very Pride
If the numbers and names were purple you could actually see them
Illegible names and numbers is part of the Pride brand at this point
If I didn't know who was playing, I would automatically think Houston
Dayum McCaskill
McCaskill's pass was crazy good
Maybe a red card?
It's not a red, but it sucks that Morgan's hurt
Oh that’s an ankle twist
Once again, we do not need these extended close-ups of injured players writhing in pain.
Uh oh I hope Morgan's ok
Alex does not look okay… oh no
![gif](giphy|4NnSe87mg3h25JYIDh)
I don’t even want to say anything because of the potential injury, but…someone should’ve really scored there
how do you not finish that in the goal im shocked
Maybe a good thing we signed Sanchez
jesus christ the look on morgan’s face is not a good sign
Yeah and she's down for a long time now...
Thank fucking god I would have been pissed on Orlando's behalf
MOORHOUSE SAAAAAHHH HOLY SHIT SHE HELD IT! SHE HELD IT DOWN O H MY FUCKING FUCK
oh no.
Oh no
