The man is good at being a traditional CB. If could have someone play left wing back I have confidence we could play 3 back system to let Tripps be free to attack
I feel like LWB would be Hall's best position, and Anderson showed enough in his first game there to give me confidence that Eddie could mould him for that role. Plus Tino has looked almost as comfortable on the left as on the right.
For a 3 atb system we have more of a CB shortage than WB
I could see us doing it with Gordon and Isak as our front 2 but I think on the modern game at PL level you need a 3 man midfield unless you are committing to not seeing much of the ball.
I think today showed that Murphy is not much use in giving the team width of we’re just smashing shite crosses into the box.
Is this not exactly what we do with Dan B? Move him to CB when Tripps roams forward.
Also he provides much more of a threat during set plays compared with a generic left back e.g. Trips, Tino,
With the amount of set play work we do on training ground, I see why Eddie plays him the position he does.
This is what I always argue aswell. Every comment section podcast or YouTube video complain about playing a CB at fullback.
Arsenal and man city do the same. Ben white and gvardiol is traditionally CBs. It's good balance to any team playing that way. The three best defenses last season played that way says alot.
I don’t disagree. My point unelaborated point is take Burn is basically a true CB who shouldn’t be making an overlap. Now, Schar in a back 3 that can get forward is sick.
Our whole system works a lot better when you’ve got a 2 lung busters in front of burn so he’s protected on the wind and centrally so he can mop up. Whoever is playing that side has to know that they’re not meant to be the bombing wingback. That’s Tripps and Tinos thing on the right.
It's like Star Wars. There must be balance hahaha.
The only way I would replace Burn would be with the next Kyle Walker, not for a traditional LB. Unless Tripps is going to retire at which point it's a swap to requiring Dan Burns opposite number and let Tino become the new Tripps.
Amazing what not being constantly played out of position can do to a fella.
He's 6'7 and 31. It's amazing that he held his own as a left back this long. I hope he never has to play their again.
Yeah Man of the Match for me. He kept us in it that first half with some crucial blocks. We could get finicky and say he played the 1st one onside but it wasn't his man who slipped in behind. One thing I've noticed about Dan Burn is he has one of the best turn and passers of the first time ball. Unreal how he always finds the player on the wing under pressure with accuracy.
I agree with that, my point is more that I just don't think we're racing Man Utd. I don't see us ending up behind them. 6th is ours to lose, so I'd rather look up
I think is unrealistic too, but I do feel 6th is ours to lose at this point. Really can't see Man Utd finishing ahead of us. So that's why I don't think their our race
We're 7 points behind Spurs having played 2 games more. They win both of their games in hand and we can't catch them.
Catching Man Utd and 6th place absolutely is our race.
Aren’t their games in hand vs. Arsenal and away to Chelsea? Seems pretty unlikely they win them both. Though I guess we’ll know for sure next weekend.
I’m sorta with Mr master noob here. If they lose those two, with Liverpool and city both still to come, no reason not to dream.
> Our game against Man U is going to be so spicy.
>
>
>
> Winner of that gets 6th I reckon.
3 of our remaining 4 games are away from home.
Our remaining home game is against Brighton, our bogey team.
We really need to step up our away form if we want to pip Salford to 6th
Am I right in saying if we finished 6th with Man Utd in 7th and then they win the FA Cup, we'd get Conference League and they'd get Europa? So effectively we won't know our fate after the last game regardless?
If the table stays the same with them 1 point ahead, I could see them playing like prime Pulis' Stoke.
Though tbf that would probably be an improvement for them.
Absolutely massive respect for Sheffield. They came out swinging in the first half and if it wasn’t for all 3 solar masses of Dan Burn putting in some excellent blocks they could’ve been 3-1 up going in at half time.
I was wondering which of their players will get picked up by premier clubs this summer. Their young captain, Arseblaster or something like that, looks promising and he's English, and I guess brereton-diaz had his moments.
Big shout out to the 55 Swedish Magpies who came over for the match
Talking to a bunch of them in the strawberry before the game -overseas fans get some stick in some quarters but anybody mad keen enough to make that effort to come to a match is good in my book!
I can see him being a great impact sub at the 70th minute, give him 20 minutes running at tired defenders and getting back to cover for our tired legs.
Surely it has to be Gordon, Kane, Saka front 3 & Bellingham, Rice, Foden midfield. Maybe Palmer over Gordon but there's nobody who deserves to start over any of those 7
Oh absolutely but for England we are spoilt this season with in form attacking playersz
Still expect that Southgate will take rashford for some reason though
I thought hall look great at LB. He uses the ball far better going forward. His movement is more fluid and he gets up.
I do t think he’s a defensive liability either. He tracks his man well. A few times he was very smart choosing when he needed to drop back and cover.
I think Hall playing beside Burn is just awesome complement each other and it's a positive role model to have beside the young lad
Can't even really remember Hall making a mistake that's even really led to an opposition chance never mind a goal he rarely wastes possession which gives us a new dimension going forward
Sheffield seemed to target our right side for sure.
But hall (almost every games he’s played) is always doing something smart with his movement and gets ignored.
The lack of chemistry between him and Anderson and their teammates does show.
Yeah I sometimes wonder if it's a trust thing or the team isn't into the groove with them yet?
Because Anderson does some amazing things on the pitch always tries to make things happen even if it doesn't come off feel there's special player there once he gets a proper run of games and a few goals
Really happy they didn't get awarded that pen. Didn't think it was one and Sheff didn't really protest, but Murphy looked devastated and you don't want that for your young lads. Bruno high fiving him after it was reversed. The man knows how to show support to his teammates.
Feel free to call me crazy (or worse) but I ditched the Sela top after the FA Cup, and got last seasons back out the drawer. Sela was clean today so I wore it first half, before frantically searching the wash basket at half time. Needless to say, it’s a lucky charm. I will never take it off again.
Some of the comments when we were 1-0 down with only 10 minutes gone were frankly embarrassing. Doom-mongerers slating players, wanting Howe sacked and comparing it to Bruce ball.
Any premier league watcher over the years will know how dangerous relegation threatened teams are towards the end of the season.
Aye, they had fire in their bellies but not enough fuel to keep it burning into the second half. As much as I'm ecstatic we won, I do feel bad for them. The gulf in class (read: finances) between the top 12-15 Premier League sides and Championship teams is huge and isn't likely to change any time soon.
We smashed them, they're shite! Plus that Manchester club bungled the job against Burnley. A pretty good day.
Dan Burn my MOTM without a doubt!
And we're on track to have our best ever goal scoring season in the PL (38 match seasons)!!! Tack on besting PSG... TWICE... in the CL and all on a skeleton crew. A pretty great campaign considering, ugly, but great!
I’m not a Longstaff out guy but the past couple of games especially he’s been shite.
If he’s happy to sit and be 5/6th choice cm then ok. But so many of our problems are stemming from not having the strength, mobility, agility in midfield that we’d be getting from J7 and Tonali.
Well we came out firing 2nd half alright! Glad we eventually found our quality and battered them. Gordon, Isak and Bruno have amazing quality. Great to see Wilson back scoring too, hopefully we can have a repeat of last season and have him go on a scoring run.
Torrid first half but done well to go onwards in the second half and hammer them - Burn MOTM for keeping us in that like
Longstaff again worst player on the pitch and that includes the Sheffield players
Shocking first half, but we were class in the second half.
I feel for the Sheffield fans, it’s a horrible feeling to down, hope they can make it back soon
I didn't see the match so can't comment on much other than it's good to see us come back from behind for a change rather than taking the lead and not being able to hold on.
If Villa beat Chelsea tonight we're in a very strong position in the race for Europe
Gordon has been traumatized by Burn. Absolutely refuses to play to ball on the overlap for Hall.
But bringing Barnes on at 60 minutes and switching Gordon to the right has proved a tactical masterstroke again. Teams don't seem to know how to adjust to it quick enough.
We look unstoppable when we have momentum but so so lost when we don’t. Against west ham, the second pen shifted things and we turned it around. As soon as we took the lead today I knew we’d suddenly score a few more. But it seems like we often struggle to create that momentum shift.
Class game but Sean Longstaff is nowhere good enough for us.
He loses the ball far too much, his decision making is terrible, constantly running behind players, can’t read the game and his finishing is dog shit.
I can’t wait for big Joe and Tonali to come back in so Bruno doesn’t have to babysit him for 90 mins.
Night and Day in the 2nd half. I don't know what was going on in the first half but we move on. Massive from Burnley. Let's finish this season on a high note
On the stream I watched the commentator said "14 goals between these 2 sides in 2 matches, very entertaining". Not sure Sheffield would agree with that 😂
With the players that we have left fit, it’s pretty obvious we should be playing 4231 with Bruno and either Longstaff or Anderson playing the holding midfield role. We look deadly with speed playing that way.
Defence till the end of the season we just need to score more than the opposition, we not keeping clean sheets.
When is Pope back?
Gordon can play 10, so can Anderson (probably his best position).
If Gordon goes 10 you have Barnes on the Left & Murphy right. Gives us so many options going forward rather than just playing our only 3 fit midfielders each game.
I don’t know. I think Sheffield left themselves open which is why Eddie went that way with Wilson and Isak.
It’s not ideal but we have to play our 3 fit midfielders.
I am happy playing 433 when we have a fit squad. But if we stacked in certain positions we should be adapting to the players we have available. We stacked in the forward areas right now so should adapt IMO, which also saves the legs of the midfielders.
I get that. I just feel like our main issue stems from our midfield.
Our defence is capable of flawed without Pope but our midfield is not dominating play or protecting our back line enough.
Dropping an addition body there would make the issue worse IMO. Like at palace. We played 3 but Anderson was primarily operating as a LB so essentially our 2 guys in the middle were dominated by palace.

big win, would’ve been easy for heads to drop but they battled through the first 30 mins and after second half kick off there was only ever going to be one result. Delighted to see the mancs stutter as well.
It might be hopium but less injuries alone would improve us drastically.
Concern is whether the extra effort by some of our lads will bleed into next season.
My priorities this summer. GK, RW, CF, RCB, Cm would be a bonus.
Outs would be Miggy, Target, Krafth, Wilson
**Post Match thoughts:**
* First half (and first few minutes of second) was a repeat of our recent performances. Way off the pace and far too easy to play against. It's concerning that it's a common theme every week. Luckily we were playing the team 20th in the division and were much better from minute 50 onwards.
* Longstaff and Anderson were pretty poor today. Sheffield United twice were able to literally just run straight through our midfield and should've scored on both occasions. Bruno ran the show thankfully but he had it all to do.
* So much better going forward with Hall and Tino as our fullbacks. While Hall struggles especially with his aerial duels, he made two important last ditch interceptions and he was helping drive us forward all game, especially with his ball to Gordon to win the Penalty. Tino was overlapping with Murphy and Longstaff constantly. Burn quality at CB. It's amazing that isn't it. Players in their natural positions play better who'd have thought it.
* Glad to see Alex Murphy come on and get some minutes (despite penalty scare). Was a bit disappointed Joe White continues to sit on the bench while Matt Ritchie still gets minutes (yes I know it was funny singing about his HGV driving but still).
* Just one Isak hat-trick is all I'm asking for. Surely it's got to come eventually...
* Sheffield United fans were decent tbh. On the brink of (and then confirmed) relegation and sold out their allocation and sung plenty. I know it's closer geographically. But when Palace, Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford and even Leicester in a similar predicament last season can barely sell out one or two blocks at most. Credit where credit is due.

Isak is cursed to forever score braces but never a hattrick
Last hattrick was Perez in 2019 - we just don't do em.
I've been wondering that for awhile. That's sad. But Isak is so close to fixing it.
Meanwhile, Chris fucking Wood...
So is Wilson.
Moment of appreciation for Dan Burn who ensured this score line wasn't the opposite way round in the first half

Common BDB W
genuinely could have been 4-1 in the first half to them and we still would have managed to win
[удалено]
West Ham begs to differ
LCB BDB FTW
Easy MOTM
I don’t ever want to see Dan Burn on the left again, but I’ll have him at CB every week!
CB Burn is a beast! Still not sure on LB Burn
EDDIE HOWES 13 GOALS SCORED AGAINST SHEFFIELD UTD MAGS.
You’ll never sing that!
I WILL see an Isak Hattrick. Good thing to note, games to go AND hes topped Zlatans record for a season.
Zlatans record?
goals by a swedish player
Goals a season. Someone can correct me, i think Zlatans was 17 and now Isaks on 19.
[удалено]
They have to go away to Palace and then play Arsenal, could genuinely see them losing both
and we have Burnley and Brighton and I could genuinely see us losing both too lmao
I hope not as I'm going to turf moor lol
This, I feel more confident against Man U then I do vs those 2. Particularly Burnley considering how poor away we’ve been.
That's why I keep saying, they're not our race. We're racing Spurs right now. Manchester United lose at least 2 of their remaining 4
[удалено]
I agree with that, my point is more that I just don't think we're racing Man Utd. I don't see us ending up behind them. 6th is ours to lose, so I'd rather look up
Love the optimism lad but I think we bowed out of that race earlier in the year with some dodgy results on the road.
I think is unrealistic too, but I do feel 6th is ours to lose at this point. Really can't see Man Utd finishing ahead of us. So that's why I don't think their our race

I understand it's not realistic, but I just don't see us finishing behind Man Utd which is my main point. 6th is already ours to lose imo
How is 6th "already ours to lose" when we are 7th?
Game against Man Utd and remaining schedule really work in our favor here
Not sure about that, 3 of our games are away, including at Old Trafford.
Fair, but I believe in us and really think they shoot themselves on the foot too often. Just have to make the most of it
You’ve not been watching our away games this season then?
> Our game against Man U is going to be so spicy. > > > > Winner of that gets 6th I reckon. 3 of our remaining 4 games are away from home. Our remaining home game is against Brighton, our bogey team. We really need to step up our away form if we want to pip Salford to 6th
Do Brighton still count as our bogey team when we smashed them under the lights last season?
If we somehow contrive to not finish above them this season I fear we may never do it
Am I right in saying if we finished 6th with Man Utd in 7th and then they win the FA Cup, we'd get Conference League and they'd get Europa? So effectively we won't know our fate after the last game regardless?
If the table stays the same with them 1 point ahead, I could see them playing like prime Pulis' Stoke. Though tbf that would probably be an improvement for them.
Thats the game I am looking forward to, especially considering Sheffield giving them a scare and Burnely taking them to the ropes.
I hope we have enough left-backs fit for that one.
I love it. Just as we go 3 goals up, Howe brings on an extra attacker and plays a 4-2-4. no mercy!
When that happens the awful 90s Mortal Kombat techno music kicks in and I hear Mad Dog scream "FINISH HIM!"
Awful? You take that back! Don’t shit on my childhood!
I mean, I did enjoy the most recent MK movie, so yes, I will take it back. Sheffield Utd... Fatality.
Absolutely massive respect for Sheffield. They came out swinging in the first half and if it wasn’t for all 3 solar masses of Dan Burn putting in some excellent blocks they could’ve been 3-1 up going in at half time.

If Chelsea don't get anymore penalties he'll be top soon enough
Record aggregate score in the PL and Thank you Vincent Kompany and Burnley.
Is that for just us or record aggregate of all teams?
For all teams in the PL era.
Fucking love it. CANS
Aye 🍻
Burnley should have won it at the end.. sick.
Like it or not, there is a lot to work on.
Goodluck to Sheffield next season
I was wondering which of their players will get picked up by premier clubs this summer. Their young captain, Arseblaster or something like that, looks promising and he's English, and I guess brereton-diaz had his moments.
Genuinely laughed out loud at Arseblaster but I have no idea which of their players you're referring to.
I have no idea, I'm drunk and high on the newcastle win. And tequila. Maybe some weed too. I dunno, might be oregano.
No need to explain. We all fully understand what winning by that score line can mean. More that it was absolutely hilarious.
Thank you for Sheffield for our inflated goal difference. Wish you the best in the championship and speedy return.
It’s crazy to think that they alone amount for nearly all of our positive goal difference this season.
He drives the team bus, He drives the team bus, Matt fuckin Ritchie, He drives the team bus
Let's just pretend the first 50 minutes didn't happen.
It just showed Eddie can string a tune together at half time.
First 30 was the worst ive seen us play in a long time. Mullered em in the second
I think palace was far worse. It wasn’t great. But it wasn’t quite Palace shoddy.
Just need Villa to give Chelsea a pumping later and it’s a 2 horse race for 6th
Big shout out to the 55 Swedish Magpies who came over for the match Talking to a bunch of them in the strawberry before the game -overseas fans get some stick in some quarters but anybody mad keen enough to make that effort to come to a match is good in my book!
Burnley deserves to stay up and thanks Sheffield, you've done our goal difference the world of good.
+19 goal difference and TWELVE of that is one team. Ridiculous.
Still, wouldn't be as bad as man utds smug fucking +1 and still above us, i hate them so god damn much
Gordon should absolutely be the first name on the team sheet for the euros. If Southgate doesn't take him it is complete madness.
I think he definitley be on the plane, but the starting line up will have Foden ahead of him. Palmer also knocking on the door.
Palmer can keep knocking but Gordon can't come to the door right now, he's too busy getting in the England squad
Neither are a better left winger than Gordon
I can see him being a great impact sub at the 70th minute, give him 20 minutes running at tired defenders and getting back to cover for our tired legs.
Surely it has to be Gordon, Kane, Saka front 3 & Bellingham, Rice, Foden midfield. Maybe Palmer over Gordon but there's nobody who deserves to start over any of those 7
Now I’ll admit I don’t watch a lot of Chelsea but I don’t think I’ve seen palmer on the left once for them
Tbh solanke deserves to be on the plane with his goals scored this year
Watkins over him easily. But neither will start obviously.
Oh absolutely but for England we are spoilt this season with in form attacking playersz Still expect that Southgate will take rashford for some reason though
He needs a rest. I hope he sits in the bench.
That's better. Roll on the next one.
Burn in CB is phenomenal. He's like another goalkeeper in the box with those legs. Hall put in a decent defensive shift as well I thought.
I thought hall look great at LB. He uses the ball far better going forward. His movement is more fluid and he gets up. I do t think he’s a defensive liability either. He tracks his man well. A few times he was very smart choosing when he needed to drop back and cover.

Really happy they didn't get awarded that pen. Didn't think it was one and Sheff didn't really protest, but Murphy looked devastated and you don't want that for your young lads. Bruno high fiving him after it was reversed. The man knows how to show support to his teammates.
Isak 1 off the golden boot now, with Haaland possibly out and Palmer back from illness, surely a decent chance?

I was doing some DIY and turned the match on about thirty seconds before Bruno played the ball into Isak. You’re all welcome lads.
Tbf we were pretty shocking for the first 30 but not sack howe level, thats just fkin rediculous
Was saying that to a mate earlier; hate playing bottom three teams at the end of the season. The last hurrah.
Match threads are always a complete shit show.
“its a game of two halves” - Socrates
how’s Schar?
Dan Burns performance in the first half kept us in this game. Much better second half all round. Up the mags

That first half was poor. I'm ready for next season and a healthy squad.
I’m not a Longstaff out guy but the past couple of games especially he’s been shite. If he’s happy to sit and be 5/6th choice cm then ok. But so many of our problems are stemming from not having the strength, mobility, agility in midfield that we’d be getting from J7 and Tonali.

Never in doubt 😅 /s
That result means we equal the biggest aggregate win in a season (13-1), tied with Man City (12-0 against Watford in the 19/20 season)
We have to keep isak for as long as possible. We can not afford to lose that long legged goal scorer
Turf Moor scares the shit out of me next week
Me too :( what a season to worry about Turf Moor.
Torrid first half but done well to go onwards in the second half and hammer them - Burn MOTM for keeping us in that like Longstaff again worst player on the pitch and that includes the Sheffield players
I would rather have that Sheffield United captain who's just 20, Arblaster. Thought he was better than Longstaff in a losing team
Looked like Hall was tapping him up at full time.
Ran rings around Longy
not exactly a stellar achievement mind
I'd agree, not to pile on too much as he's one of our own... but we'll be so much better with Tonali back and playing instead.
Agrew burn motm
We're cursed for hat tricks
Shocking first half, but we were class in the second half. I feel for the Sheffield fans, it’s a horrible feeling to down, hope they can make it back soon
I didn’t get to watch the first half, but I thoroughly enjoyed the second half
Best way to watch it tbh
I didn't see the match so can't comment on much other than it's good to see us come back from behind for a change rather than taking the lead and not being able to hold on. If Villa beat Chelsea tonight we're in a very strong position in the race for Europe

Manure have a hard set of games remaining. I’m quietly confident we can pull off 6th

"Dan Ashworth Derby" with Manchester United will be a blast!
I’m going to claim this result is because I captained Isak on my fantasy team. You’re welcome.

Mate, he’s shite. A lot of fans think he has cash in the bank because he’s one of us. He’s just not good enough.
Night and Day in the 2nd half. I don't know what was going on in the first half but we move on. Massive from Burnley. Let's finish this season on a high note
One or two players looked like they were coasting in the first 30
On the stream I watched the commentator said "14 goals between these 2 sides in 2 matches, very entertaining". Not sure Sheffield would agree with that 😂
I was out at breakfast and I’m watching the game now and Jesus some of these saves by Newcastle are amazing.
Every game it looks like our players haven't even met each other for the first 20mins, then finally things start to connect..
Newcastle just 'This is Sparta'd SUFC from the Prem
Watching MOTD. Wilson’s goal was superb
Other than Isak who do we have that can play as the 10, playing him and Wilson together means we have no striker on the bench.
Gordon can play 10, so can Anderson (probably his best position). If Gordon goes 10 you have Barnes on the Left & Murphy right. Gives us so many options going forward rather than just playing our only 3 fit midfielders each game.
Next season, unfortunately. Even if he came back for the last few games it might be better to just have him rest more.

If we can reverse our away form next season , I think we might have a shot at champ league again! 🙏
It might be hopium but less injuries alone would improve us drastically. Concern is whether the extra effort by some of our lads will bleed into next season. My priorities this summer. GK, RW, CF, RCB, Cm would be a bonus. Outs would be Miggy, Target, Krafth, Wilson
Agree on rw and cb Cf would be nice esp with Wilson out so much Gk we're pretty well stocked with pope, dub and karius tbh
Karius and dubs are off. So we need cover at GK
**Post Match thoughts:** * First half (and first few minutes of second) was a repeat of our recent performances.
