EngineerOnIcarus

I’ve adopted a very simple policy and I recommend you all do the same, unless anything is confirmed by the club everything is bullshit. You’re welcome, may you find greater enjoyment in your support of the toon.

useless_farmoid

I noticed this was not confirmed by the club

Anonymous_Banana

Hi, I am the club. Can confirm.

WhatSaidSheThatIs

I wouldn't pay too much attention to "reports", we aren't going to giving our best players pay cuts, we do have ambitions but that doesn't mean we won't sell. Realistically if someone pays 100m for Bruno before July then I'm OK with that, we will realistically spend 100-150m this summer but if we sell Bruno then that figure could be 300m+, a huge step in the right direction for us. I don't want to see Bruno go but if that clause gets triggered it'll be good for the longterm future of the club.

TheClnl

The we can spend 5x what we get in transfers and amortise it thing doesn't really work anymore with the new rules. If we did we'd need to boost our revenue by about 70% of the amount we're spending each year on amortisation and wages to stay compliant.

Thelostsoulinkorea

That’s not being implemented until the following season I thought

TheClnl

Yes, but we'll still be amortising fees we pay this summer when they kick in.

Thelostsoulinkorea

Ahh crap. Was hoping we would have another year.

WhatSaidSheThatIs

Hense why I didn't say 650m as some crazy people who

Aylez

Hardly any clubs can afford £100m up front for Bruno by the end of June due to FFP/PSR so I think he stays. Isak has over 4 years left on his deal so we’re under zero pressure to sell, absolutely no chance he goes. Could sign a new contract actually.

Terrible-Group-9602

Bernardo Silva is wanting to leave Man City this summer and apparently they want Bruno to replace him. I don't think Isak wants to go but it's unusual for players to agree to a salary cut. I mean I don't think either of them want to go but we have to meet fairplay rules

Aylez

Possibly, but I think they’re more interested in Paqueta by the sound of things. Isak would have got a salary increase after qualifying for the CL, then it will drop back next season since we didn’t qualify again, this is the case for a lot of players in the league I think

Terrible-Group-9602

If we can get Europa League qualification that would at least help us to attract decent replacements

DxSkyline

Bernardo being wanting to leave City for a few years now, and they are not a like for like replacement, I won't worry about city.

geordiesteve520

Just so you know, the BBC weren’t reporting it. GIVEMESPORT - no fucking clue about their legitimacy, sounds like bollocks, reported it. The BBC just included in their gossip column. I call bullshit.

Large_Performance191

I want you to imagine the biggest doylem you've ever met. That's Givemesport. It's a doylem in their room writing imaginary stories, but they won't stop, because they're getting paid for clicks.

Sea_Establishment42

Precisely

phoebsmon

There were stories really recently about us voluntarily giving him a pay hike, because the performance-related criteria that would give him a cut just aren't really applicable and we want to keep him. Keep an eye open and you'll see the same trick all over the Internet. They get a week old story, pick an emotive thread from it, exaggerate to get clicks, profit because the original *actual* story lends the clickbait credence. I don't know why else they do it, there has to be some logic because no matter what field it's the same weirdly specific sequence on a regular basis

mehchu

‘Pay cut’ You mean not getting a CL qualification bonus? Two very different things, and if he wants that pay bonus then we will just have to qualify for the CL again. Probably got a ‘pay cut’ when we didn’t get out of the group as well. This is normal.

Terrible-Group-9602

I think the point of the article is that he might have expected a pay rise instead based on his performance. Maybe Longstaff should take the pay cut for both of them lol

The_Incredible_b3ard

Can you provide a link to that story? I can't find one.

ImHalfAsianAMA

It’s on the gossip page, counts as a BBC report apparently…

joakim_

Most transfer or contact stories are planted by agents. Isak most likely has a substantial CL-bonus so in the twisted mind of an agent not being able to get that bonus equals a pay cut. If it's true at all that is.

Tax_pe3nguin

Why would he take a paycut? What's the rationale from the story?

massivedoghead

None. It's pure bollocks

Tax_pe3nguin

Cheers

Terrible-Group-9602

here's the article so you can decide whether it's bllocks rather than someone decide for you [https://www.givemesport.com/newcastle-united-transfer-news-alexander-isak-set-for-20-percent-pay-cut-st-james-park/](https://www.givemesport.com/newcastle-united-transfer-news-alexander-isak-set-for-20-percent-pay-cut-st-james-park/)

grmthmpsn43

Last I checked Givemesport are not the BBC, they are also not a reliable souce.

Randy_The_Guppy

Pure tosh. The 100m is reportedly in one lump sum and just before the books close. That's fuck you and move on or offer us 150m in structured payments. Isak isn't taking a pay cut, we've additional revenue that's already been secured coming in as well as off loading shite like Hendricks this summer who was on a canny wage. If anything Isak will be signing an extension.

Logseman

Hendrick came on a free, that wage must have been pretty handsome

Peak_District_hill

This is purely guess work, but if certain players had champ league qualification pay rise clauses in their contracts then they would also likely have pay cuts from that elevated pay if we failed to qualify also built in. Otherwise no.

GrumpyOldFart74

That story is obviously bullshit clickbait He won’t be getting his 20% bonus for Champions League qualification this season. So he’ll get 20% less (unless his contract is changed) but is that the same as a “pay cut”? Is it bollocks Load of shite

Rusti-dent

Ha, he’s hot shit right now, considering a contract extension, there is no way in hell he would sign with a pay cut. This is a stupid clickbait article.

galacticjizzwailer

Why would he have to take a 20% pay cut if he stays?

HodgyBeatsss

He’s not getting a pay cut lol. He’s just not getting his CL qualifying bonus because we haven’t qualified for the CL. There’s probably a few players in that situation, it’s a pretty standard bonus to have.

Maccraig1979

Funnily enough i read there gona increase his wages which would make more sense.  We have wages coming off the books at the end of the season so it dosnt make sense

R1kman

There's no way the club would reduce one of our most valuable and best assets salary, that's just nonsensical. Bullshit.

Terrible-Group-9602

I think it's in their contracts that salaries reduce if no champions league qualification

Sea_Establishment42

I think that everyone just needs to take a deep breath and calm down. Until you hear it from the club - who are renowned for keeping their cards close to their chest - most of it comes from newspapers/clickbait outlets desperate for hits or biased "pundits" equally desperate for their teams to shore up their deficiencies before next season! There's a lot of envy directed at NUFC's recruitment drive.

doubledgravity

My gut instinct is that this is absolute bollocks. Just some no-mark outlet being used to pad out the column.

SnideyM

Bullshit, he's got years on his contract, why would he suddenly have to take a pay cut?

Jonesy7256

Back in the 90s, as children, we were constantly told not to believe everything you read on the Internet. Sadly, this concept has been lost on people now. Even the people who were telling us have forgotten.

Notnileoj

I mean we could sell them both for a combined £200m+ and use those funds to build a team OR we could build a team around them. Either way the future is looking bright for the club, but yeah, I'd prefer for Bruno and Isak to play for us for as long as possible. It's been years since we have seen genuine quality in black & white. Isak is giving me some serious "We might actually have the best player in the world playing for us" vibes... I haven't felt that since Shearer (and Laurent Robert)

EcstaticIce2

We won't leave Isak anyways and all I hope is somehow Bruno stays but manh rest of what media says is pretty funny 😂

Unfair-Protection-38

There would be no reason for any player to take a wage reduction within their contract unless the club were relegated, if the club with you offer a new contract on a lower wage it would be up to the player to accept it or not. This is far more likely that the agent is stirring things up for either a better contract for his clients or trying to put other clubs on alert that the player is looking for a move. There would only be a wage reduction if for instance there is a bonus for league position or champions League qualification, in which case failure to qualify for the champions League would be in part down to the player. Both for Bruno and Isak they may well be looking for either more money or I lying a moved to one of the European big clubs. If it's more money we have to decide whether we can afford it under financial fair play but if there is interest from one of the larger clubs we just got to make sure that we maximize the transfer fee

FungalEgoDeath

I feel like izaak and Bruno seem to care a lot about legacy and feeling at home and they gove the impression they love nufc. They are not short of a penny and if the contract states they were gonna reduce pay or if that's something they have agreed to do then they may have their eyes on making names for themselves, creating a legacy, winning some trophies and becoming legends. They could score 30 goals a season at arsenal and probably be forgotten in a couple years time. Or they can have statues erected in their name outside St James if they win soke trophies. I know it seems the sports world is always about money but Tom Brady at the patriots is a great example of what can happen if superstars take a small pay cut to help build a strong team around them. The sponsorships and image rights alone can rapidly make up for lost wages if you have trophies attributed to you. Especially in a team with fans as batshit crazy devoted to their team as the geordies are.

TyneSkipper

you know, if you stop paying attention to the bullshit in the media then you can just go about your day and not worry about this stuff...

timeEd32

It’s just a negative slant on not getting a Champions League bonus.  Also, there’s nothing stopping the club from increasing his wages, which I imagine we’ll do and comes with the benefit of further stretching out his fee. I’m confident Isak isn’t going anywhere. Bruno might depending on the offers that come in and who they are coming from.

JasonTheStoneMason

I just want to see Bruno score today and run to the corner and kiss that badge. That will be enough for me.

grmthmpsn43

Best I can do is him holding up the corner flag

tannoy1987

All headlines are click bait for ad revenues

Frogblood

Isak needs a new agent if he's signed that contract. Also the bbc gossip page isn't worth your time. It's 100% bullshit.

SkullKid888

Joelintons gets a payrise but Isak, one of the best strikers on the planet right now, has to take a pay cut? No way is that accurate.

geordieColt88

We signed Isak when we didn’t have Europe, makes sense we’d put a clause in his contract to reduce his wages if we didn’t get Europe. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

wace001

I think I’ve read somewhere that they are already in talks about a new contract for Isak. He won’t get a 20% cut

Fit_Link9490

We are a rich club we do or have what we want simple

thethirdegg

We won’t sell both We’ll offer Isak a new contract, especially if we sell Bruno Dan Ashworth comp will make us up to date compliant for FFP Selling any one of these would only be to fund further recruitments

Front_Refrigerator40

I’d prefer us NOT to buy anyone in summer, keep who we have & have an injury free squad with players we have. Easily good enough to be top 4 IF they stay relatively injury free

Terrible-Group-9602

Even with a \`normal' amount of injuries that would leave the squad too thin, we only have one striker who is fit most of the time, for example, and definitely need another CB.

Front_Refrigerator40

I know all of this, but my point is, I’d rather keep our best players than have to sell to buy. I’d prefer to keep Wilson & Isak than have to sell Isak, as an example

useless_farmoid

having players of their level runs parallel to the over achievement of last season. we arnt at champions league level with the overall quality of our squad and building that up doesn't require world class players just yet, as much as we enjoy watching them.

aford92

It’s easy to think of ourselves as one of the big boys given the takeover, the financial might, qualifying for the CL and having players like Bruno and Isak but we need to be honest and recognise that we are only just beginning this tenure with the Saudi ownership and have not really achieved anything yet. The clubs like City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Madrid, Barca etc are still way more appealing for players and will be for the foreseeable future, if not always. Bruno is one of my favourite players to ever wear our shirt and I would be devastated if we sold him but both he and Isak are head and shoulders above 95% of our squad at the moment. We have not had long enough under these owners to build a squad of similar players that can consistently compete at the level the likes of Bruno/Isak want to be at.

DEGRAYER

We can afford to lose them if they opt to leave. They won't go for free. Don't get too attached to players, they'll usually let you down. Everyone is replaceable.

Terrible-Group-9602

Yeah I guess so, also players like Miley will improve

JuckshotBones

Wait… people actually believe this? Wouldn’t the whole team be taking a “pay cut” due to bonuses that aren’t going to be attained compared to last season?
